    Feeling sexy and free

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 11:58 AM PST

I handed in my resignation letter. Effective 5/31, I will be leaving my small public accounting firm I've been at for past 2.5 years. That date is expected completion date of one of the major audits that I promised I wouldn't leave my team hanging. Why 3 months notice? Because I love my team and my boss.

I just want to see bigger world of accounting and explore more careers. I reached out to few recruiters and they gave me at least 10 openings and got 3 interviews lined up on day 1 of searching for new position. Last night I checked my BEC score, passed, making it 3 passed out of 4 exams... (Last one is FAR... I know... I was saving the best for the last but I have 1 year or 4 quarters to get it done). Scheduled my exam for May 30. Then I go on a vacation for 3 weeks in June 1.

It feels so liberating. It feels like nothing can touch me right now. I will do my absolute best for my boss so the transition can be easier for him. I've never felt so alive.

(Sidenote, HR lady tried to threaten me with letting me go right after 4/15 which my boss did not agree so there are some ruffles going on at higher ups. If so, so be it, I have FAR to pass, vacation to plan, interviews to... interview. I also probably waived my rights to bonus but if that is the cost to display my loyalty, so be it.)

Edit: Please don't worry about my next job, I have plans!

Wiley gave the million dollar, definitive answer for when people ask for the best exit opportunities

Fellow Illinois Candidates: NASBA sent ILBOE the wrong files (of course) so they are working on fixing the problem.

    This is absolutely ridiculous

What are some keywords that you think computers and recruiters check for when skimming resumes?

CPA exam in relation to college courses

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 09:19 PM PST

Right now I find that ima solid B student in all my accounting courses. I want to do better and I am going to do better (study more) but my question is , do the CPA exams have any relation to college courses ? Saw somebody on here get 90's and above on all of them, while some one got a 45... im worried as hell now lol

I hate the pattern where when you fix a process or get better at something you just get more work piled on.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 04:25 AM PST

Where I work I've consistently improved processes to the point where I can get financials done way before the official deadline. I did this to make sure I could meet the deadline and to reduce stress on myself and my team.

But rather than that happen, I have now set the expectation that I will always have it done early and I'm often asked to "just take a look" at one or two aspects of it outside my normal routine.

On top of that, I don't feel like I've been rewarded at all for this. This just makes me not want to improve anything else.

Is this a common sentiment or am I just being a baby?

    Just Took FAR...

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 10:45 AM PST

Feel like total poo. I prepared myself ahead of time, but this is total poo 10/10.

I did not budget my time well. The SIMs were ALL over the place with enough supporting documents to be considered a short story.

Stupid me focused on the irrelevant information. Only later on when I went to answer the question did I realize they were asking for only part of it.

Idk can't spell can't type nothing can't think

    Multiple choice wasn't bad. I should've just...budgeted my time.

How will I ever become a CPA if I can't budget my time while taking the exam? I've always been a terrible test taker, but this... this was awful.

    Transferability from CAN to US

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 06:07 PM PST

Hi there everyone. I'm currently a student and will be finishing up my bachelors soon. I was curious how possible it is to work in the US

    1. As a Canadian with a Bachelor's degree

    2. A Canadian with a CPA earned in Canada

This is all hypothetical as I'm not sure where my career is headed that far down the line, but I'd like to be aware of potential opportunities down the road.

Thanks and congrats to everyone who passed your exams (and the ones who didn't because I know you still tried).

    FDD Senior Associate interview questions?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2018 07:33 PM PST

Hey r/accounting! I was wondering if anybody here can share their personal experiences with the FDD interview process and provide some insight on how to best prepare for the 2nd and 3rd round of interviews. I'm assuming the interview questions become more technical in nature during these rounds? How difficult were they to answer? Can you share any specific questions you found particularly difficult or unexpected? Thanks!
