Who do you bank with? Looking to get away from Wells Fargo.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 02:07 PM PST

We are based in California and currently bank with Wells Fargo. Given how they've been morally corrupt for the better part of the last decade I feel a switch is long overdue.

Who do you bank with and what do you like about them? Are there any restrictions to having a business account? Any perks?

Reddit Im back. I still cant get enough sales to live on. Please help me.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 02:37 PM PST

Hi Reddit. Im back once again. And Im exhausted.

A few months ago I made a post because I was having trouble getting my small microblading business going. I didnt get a chance to respond to everyone, but I took everyone's comments and advice very very seriously and put (I think) all of them in effect. At least the ones I could. Some of the one I may not have implemented were regarding marketing due to costs, as Im now still unemployed and my savings are on their lasts legs and unfortunatly, marketing firms dont do favours.

The link to the previous post is here if you want to check it out. https://www.reddit.com/r/smallbusiness/comments/76fnac/ive_opened_up_a_small_business_a_few_months_ago/?st=jd7xmwct&sh=218a0fe3

Since the post Ive done a lot of work.

Ive put a lot of work into "currating" my website and tailoring it as best as I can to my audience. Ive also spent every single one of my days editing photos, talking to potential clients, handing out business cards, and offering free initial microblading appointments with a complimentary touch up (to see how they heaed and get healed photos).

All of these free appointment clients were then given their photos, told to post it on instagram with a 10% off code, and in return, every time someone used the code, I gave the code owner $50 as a referral program. The codes got used by new clients zero times. I am still working for free.

Ive just started a facebook page, and get about 2 views a day. I have also begun asking clients to review me honestly on my facebook page, which I have also transferred onto my website.

So far Ive had 2 sales, 1 at $400 and 1 at $300 as I offered a woman promotion. Every one of my clients is obsessed with my work, says they love their eyebrows, theyre absolutely coming back, they tell all their freinds, etc etc. New potential clients rave about my portfolio and how incredible my work is. Yet they dont want to pay. Ive tried dropping my price, but it still doesnt get anyone. Even at $150 for 2 appointments........... I cant afford to work like that.

Ive also expanded my services to include freckles, lashes, and hairline microblaing. Im doing 20 girls for free in February to get a portfolio going.

All of my prices are lower than my competitors.

I dont know what to do reddit. Can someone check out my website, give me some advice? How do I go about getting clients? What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do differently?

How to deal with first bad customer

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 08:41 AM PST

My dad owns a company and we take great pride in our reviews he has been in business for 25+ yeats, obviously had a few bad customers along the way but since we have had a website and been on review websites for the last 4-5 years we average 9.89 out of 10 over the last 100 jobs and we haven't had a single bad customer since for at least 5 years.

We start work for a lady who tells us about all of the bad tradesmen she has had before,we get to around 75% completion she says she's happy with everything looks amazing.

Then suddenly calls us a up and says she doesn't want us to finish the work and threatens to leave bad reviews says her 'expert' step dad says the work isn't 100% so we say we will rectify any issues & note the work isn't completed.

Now we cannot afford to have bad reviews but we 100% stand behind our work which has a 5 year guarantee? What can we do? My dad says if she offers to pay for the 75% he will just donate it to charity as we believe we are not in the wrong but it's £4000 which isn't a massive deal for our company but in principle and the fact that she has had a bad history with tradesmen mentioning to us she had work done for free multiple times because it was 'shoddy' I don't think she should get away with this but we can't risk bad publicity even though the work is 100%

So what can or should we do or what would you do ?

    Business Names and Reputation?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 01:04 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I am very interesting in starting up my own company or group as an entrepreneur. I want to use 'MyLastName Holdings' as a name, however, I am aware of a company that goes by 'MyLastName Group' that was involved in money laundering and ponzi schemes. As disappointing as this is, is it better off for me to use a different name entirely? I feel like name recognition could go terribly wrong for my business if customers have heard of the MyLastName Group. I am very early in the business starting process, but this is something that has concerned me.

    Thanks!

PS: First timer in this subreddit. Please forgive me if I'm asking this question int he wrong subreddit.

(Cold) Email Marketing - My Results Thus Far (x-post from r/entrepreneur)

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 06:02 PM PST

Just recently found this subreddit, figured I'd post this here as well. Look forward to hearing other peoples results!

So, up until a few months ago I had never thought about running cold email campaigns. Was talking with a friend who owns a manufacturing business and he was raving at how great it has been for him.

Decided I'd give it a shot.

Obviously no one wants to receive a cold email, and they don't perform nearly as well as my opt-in email campaigns. But. Data is cheap (after searching around, I've found a good source that is charging $.13/contact), so I started off with a list of 20k and figured what the hell, if it works great, if not its not a ton of money burned.

On my first week of sending intro emails, I averaged around a 22% open rate, and a 7% CTR from the people who had opened. Managed to pull in 17 leads, of which 2 turned into clients.

GREAT - Already in the green.

Now, I am re-targeting those who had opened the original intro. I'm seeing closer to a 37% open rate, & around a 13% CTR.

With those that didn't open the original, I'm hitting with a intro2, and seeing pretty lousy open rates (to be expected), I think it is only around a 6%, not a total lost cause, but not that great.

I'm not sure if I just got lucky on my first email campaign, or if I can expect to continuously see results similar to this. Overall, I expect to close 5-7 new clients, which will make it a very profitable venture.

Plan to ramp up to a 50k purchase of data, and see if I can keep the results consistent.

My question for you guys: How many of you have used cold email marketing in the past, or currently still use it? What kind of results are you seeing? Is this a long term sustainable marketing medium?

*** Edit. I'm getting 2 questions consistently, so I'm going to answer them here.

The "data points" I get on a contact: They are basically everything you could use. Name, Title, Company Name, Company Size, Revenue, SIC Code, NAIC Code, Address, State, Office Size, Advertising Expenditure, Utilities Expense, etc...

My Data Source is a fellow redditor I linked up with - /u/DaytaMon Feel free to shoot him a pm if you are looking for data, he gave me permission to post his name. No more bombarding me with "who is your source??" :)

Need Advice: To Fire or Give a Second Chance?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 08:23 AM PST

Hi all, I'm in need a little advice and outside perspective. We have a small, family-run, delivery service and found out one of our office employees (non-family member) has set up a couple accounts for her relations with discounted pricing. These discounts were not approved nor are self-directed discounts within the scope of her position. Normally, this would be immediate termination since it's technically theft and a major breach of trust. However, there are some additional circumstances that make me wonder if there's room for a second chance.

    The Mitigating Factors:

    • I've been having a hard time matching this behavior with the person I've worked with every day for almost a year. She is a good employee: reliable, good with customers, fits the company culture, and performs well. She asks for guidance with difficult scenarios and is a generous, thoughtful individual. Not that the employee is perfect or that I can't replace her, but this does give me pause.

    • We hired her husband about 3 months ago and he's a stellar fit. We want to keep him as an employee and promote him once he learns the ropes (research shows that he's not involved with the discounts). We have had other married couples in the past so this isn't new territory and this kind of scenario was discussed before hiring. Unfortunately, we're not sure he would stay if we fired his wife so soon into his employment let alone how it would affect interpersonal relations if he did stay.

    • We're very generous to our employees. This may have inspired some convoluted logic that allowed her think that giving discounted pricing to her family is OK (I.E. I get an employee discount, they're related to me, thus they can have my discount). This is the extreme edge of Hanlon's razor but possible.

*It was caught early, there's very little fiscal damage.

    The Specifics:

    • The employee set up two accounts several months ago with normal pricing then reduced them within the last month. One to almost profit-loss, the other was less egregious. Again, she is not authorized to give self-directed discounts.

    • She also transferred one account away from the most appropriate driver so that it would be delivered by her husband instead. This move is still a reasonable use of resources given existing zone overlap. However, it means that the entire transaction chain is now overseen by relations. Also, she waited to adjust the price until after the route change was made. The other account is completely within a different driver's zone - impossible to change on the sly. Finally, self-directed route changes are not within her authority.

    • One account shows cash payments being entered by this employee. I have confirmed receipt of the most recent cash payment, so I believe they are being made. Which makes sense; if she was fake-entering payments then there wouldn't be a point in discounting the price. Still, this manner of cash payment could be abused within our current system. I'll be pulling additional reports going forward to reduce this vulnerability.

The whole thing feels so underhanded and sneaky. Had she asked, we would have authorized a discount (not to the degree she gave) and maybe the route change. Had she mentioned the cash payments I would have had them entered by a different employee to make it beyond reproach. The whole situation could have been avoided with 3 quick questions. Instead, we're leaning strongly towards firing her since we feel she can't be trusted.

So I'm throwing this to you guys - would any of you give her a second chance?

    Creating separate payroll company.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 12:21 PM PST

I have a quick question. I own 3 super small cafes all with under 5 employees. Each with its own ein and each a separate business entity. Payroll is becoming a drag. Is it possible to form a single company that takes care of payroll for all three locations? Kind of a hospitality group type entity. What's the best way to go about this? Thanks in advance.

Showing a nickname on credit card statements

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 08:12 PM PST

    Hi

I'm trying not to disclose my real name on buyers' credit card statements after they pay me via Stripe. I'm not sure if PayPal already allows this, but does Stripe allow a nickname to be used? I'd still be happy to provide Stripe my real name, IDs, etc for identity check. I know a business account should achieve this, but I'm not prepared to go through all the paperwork needed to start a company. It's just a hobby at the moment, so I'd like to keep it as simple as possible.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Would I be a business?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 06:16 PM PST

In the near future I want to sell custom knives to fund my hobby and make some extra income. I know I'd have to include that income when paying my taxes, but would I need to pay any taxes associated with owning a small business? I'd be selling them on etsy/ebay/etc and am not aiming to start an official business.

    What Is The Best Course?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 06:10 PM PST

Hi Reddit, I'm not quite sure this is the place to ask, but it seems to be the only one.

So, I started an SEO service based business a while ago. Sadly, we haven't able to land a client. And I can understand why. Our website sucks and our prospecting strategies aren't the best. Anyways, if anyone can suggest the best course they have studied about cold calling/landing page/conversion optimize, I'll give you some Reddit love.

The landing page and conversion optimize will be mostly involved in copywriting and design. Thanks Cheers

[Question] Setting up online payment for my shopify store.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 01:45 PM PST

Looking for a merchant account to accept online payments that will work with us. We will be selling CBD products derived from Hemp plants which makes us a "High Risk" (no pun intended) Business.

What would be the best approach when looking for online payment processing of credit cards.

Shopify will not act as the payment gateway because of the High Risk of our business.

    Is this valuable?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 03:55 PM PST

I'm of the opinion that businesses (small in particular) do not seek feedback often enough and that as a customer its difficult to voice my opinion as to where I believe a business could improve.

Would a platform hosting a feedback form asking the open ended question 'How can we improve and be better for you?' be valuable to business owners? Businesses would push their customers to the site to answer the question and responses would be delivered directly to owners emails.

Reasons I believe this to be valuable:

    1. People see that businesses are making a genuine effort to improve and want to help

    2. They now have the opportunity to speak freely as I believe that face to face interaction usually end up in people saying what they think the other will want to hear.

    3. It is structured in such a way that they will speak positively as opposed to blindly criticising as is how most review sites operate.

    4. They will feel a connection to your business having contributed to the betterment of it and become invested in seeing and helping you to improve.

    5. Businesses find out which customers really care about their business and will now have a line of communication with these people who they can contact to find out more information or leverage in other ways.

    6. Businesses can stop guessing and assuming how they approach improvement and actually find out from the people who use their product/service.

Interested to hear any and all points of view on this one.

    Bench.co? Anyone use it before?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 12:57 PM PST

Just got setup with a demo and it was super easy to use. Very similar to quickbooks online except I don't have to do it myself. Another plus is that you have a team of bookkeepers now vouching for the work which I think is the best part. I was blown away at how they were able to pick out certain categories that I even had to double check after. Namely, my paid commissions for affiliates. They were paypal transactions with absolutely no reference on the payment.

Anyone use it before? regrets? I know it's kind of pricey.

Want to grow organic Instagram followers/engagement or influencer account? Here is how!

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 03:51 PM PST

I've was looking for a solution to grow a couple of my pages on ig for a while and my friend told me gave this a try cuz he saw success with it and it pretty much gained me, roughly 200/250 followers, organically, a day within a couple of days. They really focused on getting you to the explore page and getting your algo score above 10 asap. The higher your score the faster you grow to 10k+ and then your account takes off from there. I hope it helps someone grow their page! http://www.boomull.com/
