What have you done to stand out in an interview to get the job? Sales and Selling

What have you done to stand out in an interview to get the job?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 06:46 AM PST

Hello. This week I am going in for an interview at an SaaS company for an SDR position. Looking at the Linkedins of people there, this company has lots of ivy league graduates and very impressive resumes.

What sort of side project can I bring in or anything I can do to seal the deal and go above and beyond?

She mentioned that the 2 biggest objections people have are:

    • They don't know the product. This company does not have competitors. There is a huge educational barrier.
    • People want to know how the algorithm and technology works, but we aren't really allowed to go into it in detail.

Should I create a sales strategy, list the questions I would ask and the approach I would use to tackle their two most common objections?

What have you done to stand out to get the job?

Also just general feedback. If you're a hiring manager what are you looking for?

Anyone use Chambers of Commerce for b2b sales?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 04:22 AM PST

    If so, what's your strategy?

I'm going through, looking for service based businesses (dentists, accountants, lawyers, home improvement), looking for emails, and then hitting up their websites with prospect.io or whois.com to find the owners email, for a cold email campaign. I'm not paying for directory access Street as I think I'm done ok without it.

Just not sure if there's a better/more effective way out there.

    International equipment sales

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 10:26 AM PST

My small equipment manufacturing company is moving to grow our international sales channels aggressively this year. I was very involved in our domestic program, but international is only 10% of our revenue. This is my new job...

    My plan so far:

    Research:

    • Identify former and current ideal international customer profile
    • Identify 10 markets to aggressively research in Q1
    • Identify similar organizations that have been successful
    • Book 2-3 trips to the best markets for Q2

    Attack:

    • Approach 50+ former customers and contacts with a friendly, open email campaign. Something like "we would like to bring additional value to customers like you in 2018 and beyond, new products, new services, turn key packages to help you drive X goal"
    • Create all-new sales materials for these new leads and contacts
    • Try to build partnerships with the aforementioned similar noncompeting companies ie: US manufacturers that have distributors in the ME, South America, etc
    • Fly to the top 3 territories with leads and meeting in hand
    • Close deals

    Deliver:

    • Not really my area, but I know if I'm not involved in the deliverables, it will kill deals at birth. Lots of BoH hand holding

Staffing Sales- where do you find leads?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 03:17 AM PST

Hey everyone! Looking for people in staffing sales. How do you find leads?

Here is what we are planning to do:

Job boards- call on the openings to see if they are open to help. Reference checks- asking for meetings from former employers of candidates. Targeting specific companies - we are targeting companies based on industry and employee size.

I know we need to start marketing candidates to employers. I would love to hear about how some of you handle this.

How else are you guys getting leads or what are you doing to maximize the above channels?

    Thanks!

CEO of my company wants me to work a special project developing our presence in New Zealand. If you were me, how would you execute?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 12:01 PM PST

To give a little more info, there are 10-15 viable enterprise level opportunities and maybe 30-40 SMBs. Any enterprise execs or BDRs with experience working a campaign like this? How would you develop and execute an effective campaign?

    My thoughts are:

    Week1

    Day 1: Intro email

    Day 2: Intro Call

Day 3: Follow-up LinkedIn if no DM on intro call

Day 4: Follow-up call if still no DM

    Day 5: No action

Week 2 and beyond would be a similar approach but with greater spacing and mainly following up with phone calls.

I'd love to get an idea of how you guys would approach this.

    Solar Sales

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 11:54 AM PST

I've started working d2d with ATT on commission only and I'm loving the job so far. We are also partnered with a business that does solar for both residential and commercial projects and have been reaching out to my network for any advice on how to go about getting a commercial deal.

I'm using my resources to look into development here in San Antonio as well as in Austin, Texas so that I can approach the developers in the hopes of landing a contract with them.

I'm looking for any advice or resources y'all might be willing to share as I'm just getting into b2b/solar sales.

Thanks a ton, looking forward to responses/discussion!

How did you find a mentor?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 10:39 AM PST

I've been in b2b Saas sales my whole career (5 years) and feel like I've hit a wall. Recently I've been reading a lot more sales books, listening to my recordings, etc. but feel like I need some more guidance from an experienced salesman.

How did you find a mentor? How does this person help you? What do you do to help this person?

    Thanks!

    Internal to External with Travel

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 10:07 AM PST

I was recently promoted from an internal sales position to an external sales position which requires 80% travel across the country. I didn't apply or interview for the position so this wasn't something my wife and I had a chance to discuss. We're very excited about the opportunity, but my wife is really struggling with the travel requirements; I'm hoping this will just require an adjustment period. Anyone else gone through a similar situation? How'd you overcome obstacles at home?

Books on developing a sales personality

    Posted: 04 Feb 2018 07:23 AM PST

    Hi Team,

Backstory: my first job out of college was sales in sink or swim environment with little training. I wasn't ready for it right of college and negative thoughts about my product/team/company got to me so my numbers were low. Since it was pure commission I didn't stick it out but some lessons did resonate with me as I moved into a tech field.

Fast forward to now: I've been sharpening my tech skills and have started my own business(if you could call my extremely small book of business that). But in the last 5-6 Years I've only been focused on the technical side of things and haven't worked on my business development side. I'm revisiting old material and looking for new suggestions. I feel like my image doesn't come off as polished, confident or excited sometimes. Does anyone have a book or information that can give me some tips on improving myself as a salesperson?

New Car Sales - How effective are loaner vehicles as a selling tool?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 04:16 PM PST

Hey /r/sales! I'm developing software for automotive dealerships that will focus on loaner fleet management. I am trying to research to find the value of loaners as part of the sales process.

I spent a few years as a Dealer rep for an OEM and always was asked to highlight "selling from the service lane." Despite some extensive research through my school's database access, I can't find much about how successful loaner vehicles are as a sales tool.

What kind of experiences have you had with services customers using loaner cars as a "trial car" for their next vehicle.

Do customers who bring in cars for service often consider buying a new car because of their experience in a loaner vehicle?

I'm also looking for some basic information about which OEMs require loaner fleets and how they're required to be managed.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

P.S. Once I get this thing up and running, I'm going to need to stand up a serious salesforce so I'll be looking for some talent!

Is it a total waste of time to reach out to recruiters of companies you want to work for?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 03:42 PM PST

I have been experimenting a bit with this and am thinking about maybe doing it for one more time, perhaps my emails to them have been too long. Every single time I have done it, I have failed to hear back and usually gotten ignored.

Wonder if I am doing it wrong or if you guys have had the same experience.
