Help with calculating equity value when dealing with excess cash.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:41 PM PST

"Cash in excess of the firms operating requirements should be added to the value of the firm's equity in calculating the total value of the firm."

Isn't this incorrect? Shouldn't it be "Cash in excess of the firms operating requirements should be SUBTRACTED from the value of the firm's equity to get the value of the firm'?

I thought enterprise value = equity value + debt - cash

    Any help would be appreciated.

Seems like an interesting company with a niche product (audit software), great customer retention and room to up arpu from. 56k now to over 100k and continue penetrating a 10bn plus market (they estimate 105k customers who could pay 200k a year, but let's say it's 100k to be conservative).

Seems like an acquisition candidate, but at 3.5x forward revenues it seems fairly priced, even after the recent sell-off.

Anybody have any thoughts? Pat Dorsey mentioned it on a podcast and I've only just started DD.

Trouble finding Merck's old financial reports

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:51 PM PST

    Hi all,

I'm having difficulty finding Merck's old accounting data. Its most recent 10-Ks are on SEC.gov, but every 10-K filed prior to 2009 is for Schering-Plough Corporation. I understand there was a merger but I don't understand why that would result in Schering-Plough's filings being on the website and not Merck as a whole.

Merck's old 10-Ks cannot be accessed on its investor relations page either. Can someone please lead me in the right direction for finding these old filings? Also, could someone clear up the Merck/Schering-Plough merger? I'm struggling to understand what exactly happened in that merger/reverse merger.

This is for my risk management class. I'm trying to find the historical relationship between Merck's foreign revenue, foreign exchange rates, and R&D expenditures and elucidate its hedging strategy. So any insight into that would also be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!
