NJ/PA- Someone Claimed I Hit Their Parked Car While Parking Posted: 10 Feb 2018 02:15 AM PST I did not. Security showed up to take information from me, my passenger, lady whose car it was, her witness who "saw me hit the car" and is also lady's friend. The lot is a corporate lot in NJ, the lady lives in PA. Lady did not want to call cops and was fine with giving me an estimate first for damages, and not going through insurance. There were no damages—security took pictures and said there were no visible damages on either car; pictures were taken that showed nothing. I was hoping I would simply never hear from her again once she came to her senses and calmed down. Three days later she calls to tell me she took her car for a wash and then to a collision place in PA to check for damages, and they found a dent in her back door panel. She said the auto body shop could not give an estimate "because of laws in PA, and that they need to see if there's damage under the dent." I asked for updated photos of the dent to get my own second estimate on as my photos showed nothing; she refused and asked for my insurance. I called my insurance, told them the story, and they opened a claim. They will be sending an adjuster on Monday to check out my car (NO DAMAGE). I sent the lady the name of my insurance and the claim number. I 100% did not hit her car. So what happens next? How screwed am I when it comes to my insurance premiums? Edit: there is video and according to security it doesn't show me hitting the car OR not hitting the car due to the angle of the camera. Video will only be released to insurance or police. toilet wax ring failure, leaked, rotted the subfloor; insurance issues Posted: 09 Feb 2018 04:13 PM PST Moved in 2016. Warranty good for 1 year. Has homeowner's insurance. On year 1, I had leaking issues in the first floor bathroom. it was within warranty and they fixed it. We were able to detect it right away from the unfinished basement. After the warranty expired (year 2), the same issue happened again. So I called the builder and his contracted plumber. Because the issue occurred within the warranty and it is a reoccurring issue, they did the work for free, as a part of the warranty, and fixed it. This is year 3: We noticed that the garage light has some leakage, so we called the same plumber and he said there is a wax ring failure in all across the bathrooms. We have three bathrooms, and all had the same issue, except that one he looked at, which was fixed by replacing wax rings early on. He said it is a product failure, so it leaked through the subfloor, and rotted the floor. Luckily, that one bathroom that he fixed within the warranty is fine. I need to change the entire subfloor+tile. He said for each bathroom it will be ~$1500. He contacted the builder, and the builder told us to contact the insurance, so that he could be on my side for product failure. But when I am doing my online searching, I see that this may not be covered by the insurance for the most part. My summarized insurance policy doesn't say anything about professional liability claim, but i read it somewhere that I could do this claim for the builder for up to 10 years from the time that my house was built. Not sure what to trust until I schedule a meeting with a real estate lawyer on Monday. Any advice will be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Feb 2018 06:58 PM PST Info- wife and I are both 25. Full time teachers. Still on parents health insurance. She has a 4 year old from a previous relationship with health benefits through the Indian tribe of her father. With our new baby coming in the next couple weeks, we are trying to figure out how to pay for the birth of our child and insurance for him when the time comes. We applied for CHIPS and Medicaid for our daughter, but don't qualify because we make too much and have the opportunity to get insurance from our employer. So we cant enroll till November. We want to get her insured elsewhere because the Indian hospital is slow and more than 2 hour drive for a walk in appointment that takes all day. And scheduled appointments are months out. We live in Missouri if that helps any. Just looking for information on how to make sure my new baby is insured from day 1 (if possible). And if possible how to insure my step daughter as well to make life a little easier. Our school district will allow us to enroll when the baby is born, costing $120/m for employee and and addition $331/m for the baby. Our daughter however cannot join until open enrollment in October. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, please direct me and I will move along if needed. [link] [comments] |
[Ohio] minor fender bender the other party is trying to scam me Posted: 09 Feb 2018 01:15 PM PST I was coming home from class today, and I had a minor fender bender on the highway. I rear ended the person at less than 5 mph. we pulled off and exchanged insurance but we didn't call the police. But I have a dash cam and I looked at the accident and you can clearly tell that all the damage they say I caused was caused previously. As my car approaches their car in the footage I slowed it down, paused it just before i made contact and compared my after accident photo to their bumper and all the same scratches are there and there is a crack in the same exact spot and there is no damage that I can tell that I actually caused. They kept saying that the damage "I caused" needed to be fixed. [link] [comments] |
[CA] Is it possible to get reimbursement for payments made while my car is in the shop? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 11:44 PM PST I leased a brand new Camry on 12/21 and was rear ended on 12/27 and my car has been in the body shop since then. I was told today my estimated delivery date will be 2/23 so almost two full months without my car. My third car payment will be due before then and I've driven the car less than a week. Is it likely that Geico (the at fault party's) insurance will reimburse me for my monthly payments made? They've been good about covering all repair costs quickly and gave me a rental right away. I tried asking for diminished value but got rejected right away. I just wasn't sure if payment reimbursement was a thing or not. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Feb 2018 11:06 PM PST I'm 25 no serious or recent accidents (only winter weather related accidents) or tickets (zero speeding tickets) and losing my mind over trying to understand car insurances. I live in Michigan and I am paying $500 dollars a month currently for a 2003 suv with minimum coverage through progressive. Is this normal? Why are newer vehicles more expenses? My 1994 Ranger was only $150? Is there a good company someone can recommend me? [link] [comments] |
A question about adding a future spouse to a medical policy Posted: 09 Feb 2018 10:00 PM PST My ex-husband and I are currently roommates, and still good friends. He is getting remarried in May, and plans to put his wife-to-be on his insurance (my kids and I have our own). He recently mentioned he is picking up his marriage license in the next few weeks and will be sending it to his medical insurance company as soon as he gets it. Now, I'm confused: why would he do it now, rather than when the ceremony is complete? Is this even legal? Is he wasting his time sending it now? [link] [comments] |
Is it a bad idea to get auto/home insurance from one company and umbrella from another company? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 05:53 PM PST Is it a bad idea to get auto/home insurance from one company and umbrella from another company, or is even possible, or is it ever a good idea to do this? I would love to have an umbrella policy with the same company that insures my cars but one of the places I might insure my cars doesn't do umbrella policies. Is that enough of a reason so that I shouldn't even consider them when shopping for auto plans? [link] [comments] |
Car accident! How to track down the other party from drivers license and license plate? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 05:51 PM PST Hey insurance wizards I got in an accident where the other party is clearly at fault. I was late for work and panicking so all I got was the vehicle's make/model/license plate number and a screenshot of her Driver's license. I gave her my phone number but never got hers. I need to file my claim now and she hasnt contacted me. How do I get her phone number or insurance info without reporting her as a hit and run driver? Help! [link] [comments] |
LexisNexis information is completely incorrect on my auto insurance in California, what can I do? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 09:38 AM PST There is an "at fault" accident that is listed under my name on LexisNexis and am not able to correct it, or, at least, have not found a way to. What can I do? It has cost me a lot of money (to me) and is affecting my insurance rates drastically. Help!!!! [link] [comments] |
Auto Insurance Help! (First accident & confused) Posted: 09 Feb 2018 02:57 PM PST Hi everyone, as the title states, my car just got hit last week. If anyone could give advice on what direction to go in, that would be great! Here's a summary of what happened: My car was parked in a lot while I was grocery shopping. Came outside, and officers were on site to record what happened. The driver who was parked beside me hit my car, causing damage to the my left fender and took of my headlight and bumper. I initially tried to get driver information from the person who hit me, but the police told me they had all the insurance, DL, and contact info of the driver and that I was good to go. Awesome! I went along home, submitting a claim the next day. I tried to input their insurance information online, but it wasn't going through so I called their insurance, State Farm, directly. They could not find the policy either, so I contacted the person who hit me and they ended up sending me a text stating "this was my friends car, not mine sorry!" with a picture of his policy information attached. I'm spooked a bit here because 1. they didn't mention that to the police initially and 2. they never let me know until I couldn't get through to insurance. Fast-forward one more day; I called State Farm again and tell them what happened, but they still cannot find the policy # matching up with the guy's name. After some googling, I found his agent and we finally located the original owner of the car. The claims department guy I was on the phone with says the guy isn't in the system, but goes off on some tangent saying they would investigate it saying there was something off about his policy. I asked what and he said they would investigate it and left it at that. Today I call them again and they beat around the bush. I asked the guy, "so you're basically telling me it's open indefinitely?" "yes" TL;DR: I was given false information from police and was not able to put in the correct insurance claim. The initial driver who got in the accident with me was driving their friend's car and didn't tell me or the police at the time of the accident, until I had to find out for myself. Put in a claim with their friend's insurance, and now State Farm is being weird about taking fault for the accident. I don't really know where to go from here. I am a senior living away from home for college and I've had to take an uber everyday to class (25 miles each way), which is burning a hole in my pocket. I'm feeling spooked of the driver not telling anyone that the car wasn't theirs and that their friend's insurance is odd. Should I lawyer up at this point or contact the driver on what's up with their friend's insurance? Or should I leave it alone and suck it up for the time being? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Getting a license? Am I being naive? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 08:35 PM PST Hi guys, I'm a young guy (20) and taking some much needed year off school for the sake of my sanity. I've always been kinda interested in insurance, and half planned on potentially getting a license when I got done with school. I'm from NH, looks like all they require is a small class and a test. I'm a good test taker, and I'm sure if the class prepares you for the test I'd be fine. But am I thinking this is way easier than it really is? How successful could I be on my own. I'd really only looking to be selling auto to a few friends/family, and maybe growing and seeing where things go. I've done some research, kinda know how everything works, and it seems like getting the license is the first "step". Am I crazy? Do you think it's something worth getting into? Tell me what your experience and how you got into this business. Thank you :) from your fellow young guy just trying to figure out life. [link] [comments] |
Do you need critical life insurance in Canada? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 08:22 PM PST Hey guys, my financial advisor is really trying to push me to get critical illness insurance. Firstly I dont care about life insurance, when i die i dont care who my money goes too. Im 23 btw so relatively young. I used to think since I'm healthy, careful in life, relatively lucky, nothing would ever really happen to me. Wrong. I got in a car accident recently, all the other persons fault. And while Im ok, Im definitly not emotionally ok with all the stress that comes with it. This make me rethink life insurance. The way this plan works is you put 250 every month for 15 years. If you get one of those common listed diseases you get a lump sum of 250,000. If the 15 yrs is up, you can get all the money invested back. So you're only really losing inflation. However right now i have an average paying job and im still in school part time. I have 30 grand saved up, no debt or car loan. I want to buy a house in about 3-5 yrs thats what im saving for, and I was thinking about investing it in index funds or similar. I also live in Canada, so health stuff is relatively free as far as i know, id just be losing salary if i get one of those ciritcal illnesses. My salary now is just a bit under 50k. Do you think its worth it, or should i be investing that 250/month into something else that can grow in interest? [link] [comments] |
Is dental insurance considered necessary for a teen/young adult? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 12:18 PM PST Facing a dilemma here. I'm an 18 y/o male and I live on my own. I need to change my insurance and I'm trying to narrow my options down to somewhere that would benefit my current medical need while also covering for what my old insurance did. I've narrowed it down to one that seems perfect so far except my dentistry doesn't accept that insurance. I've never had any problems with my teeth besides getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Other than that the only thing my dentist tell me is to floss more. As an 18 y/o who will probably have this insurance until my mid 20s to where I can afford multiple or better insurance, is dental needs minor enough to kick to the side for a while? Anyone familiar with claims with root insurance Posted: 09 Feb 2018 05:19 PM PST I recently started my policy January 18th 2018 and got in a wreck today at my fault. Root gives quotes to those who are good drivers and I feel they'll drop me after this. Few more questions My front end is pretty messed up might be totaled. This is my first ever wreck and I'm just concerned with how this all works. I've put in a claim and I just don't know what happens next [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Feb 2018 09:23 AM PST I was in an accident last week when another car hit me on the right side of my car. It was a one way street and I was on the left curb side lane. I'm located in Ohio. We both has Progressive and it was ruled that I was not at fault. Progressive will cover the damage to the right side of the car, but started stalling things when damage was presented on the left fender. It was obviously from the accident that I was pushed from the right side collision into something on the left side. The insurance company adjuster is questioning why I didn't report this damage to my car, while I responded that I don't remember being asked what damaged occurred, but rather just what physically happened. I took pictures of the car but focused on the primary impact from the other car. The other driver was asked about this and the adjuster revealed that the other driver couldn't remember if I was pushed or not. The whole accident was a real shock to both of us. The gentleman who came out to inspect the car at the collision shop hasn't put in an official ruling about this being pre-existing or not but it feels like it is obviously that it leaning towards rejecting the fender damage. My adjuster says she will listen to my intake interview and will get back to me Monday. I am looking for guidance about what to say in order to get this solved in my favor, as well as guidance as to what not to say. Also, if they rule pre-existing damage should I seek out a lawyer? Edit; clarification [link] [comments] |
What is the % percentage for taking the Defensive Driving Course in NY? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 02:48 PM PST I read on the dmv website that you get %10 off each year mandatory. But a progressive agent told me that is not true and is internally calculated. So can someone explain how it actually works? [link] [comments] |
[update] Hit by unlicensed, uninsured driver... Posted: 09 Feb 2018 02:34 PM PST See https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/7lmyd4/ca_hit_by_unlicensed_uninsured_driver_first_time/ For my original post. Just wanted to come back to give an update and thank you guys for the advice.
After 2.5 weeks, my insurance finally determined my car was totaled. My initial total estimate for my 2013 Model S came in a bit low, so I got the valuation report as I was advised here. Low and behold, they had the model of my car wrong (S85 vs my P85) and none of my options correct. I also submitted the info for the wheel upgrade I had done just a month before the accident. The new estimate came back ~$9400 higher, and I was satisfied with that result other than it took until yesterday to get this far. Luckily I had enough cash to purchase a replacement vehicle while this played out, so I didn't run out of my rental car allowance while I waited. (Bought a Model 3 for the Tesla fans out there).
Getting the police report myself did speed up some of the process, so that was worth my time to do. I recently contacted my original claims adjuster to ask if the determination had been made as to the uninsured status of the other driver, and she responded back that yes, they had declared him uninsured, but they had forgotten to reimburse my deductible. Oops. So that check is coming my way as well now.
Needless to say, I will probably be changing companies after this claims experience with Ameriprise. The advice given here (on my thread and others) was very helpful with me dealing with them with the least amount of drama. So thanks again!!! [link] [comments] |
Progressive Insurance = Permit Drivers Free is a Lie Posted: 09 Feb 2018 06:06 PM PST *** Update: I called a Progressive Agent and was told, to bad, deal with it. Went on Geico.com and got insurance that includes my permitted daughter and it was $85 per month. That's a far cry from the $245 that Progressive wants. I guess someone has to pay Flo's bills, but it won't be me now. I added my 20yr old daughter to my Progressive plan today as a permitted driver. Based on their website (https://www.progressive.com/answers/teen-driver-insurance/) She should have been free. However instead it raised my rate by over 200%. I reached out to an agent via their chat box and was told, that she is to old to qualify. However that is not listed on the website. Here's the conversation. Dana H: Thank you for your patience. If she only has a Permit you have correctly coded her license status as Permit/Not Yet Licensed. Your total policy premium can be affected by all persons of driving age, however. Based on our company's past loss experience additional drivers do create additional risk exposure. Daniel: Yes she only a permit and it clearly states Permit drivers are free Dana H: Where are you seeing that information? Daniel: I understand risk but your published policy is either erroneous or inaccurate Dana H: Where are you seeing the information that a permit driver is free so that I can review it? Daniel: Help! My teenager received a permit and is learning to drive. What's my next step? Let us know about the new driver in your family. Good news! There's no charge to add a permit driver to your Progressive policy! But we will begin to rate the driver when they obtain a permanent license. Daniel: that's from your own website Daniel: https://www.progressive.com/answers/teen-driver-insurance/ Dana H: Please allow me a moment to confer with our Assist Team. Daniel: sure Dana H: Thank you for your patience. If the driver is over 18, the teen driver doesn't apply. Daniel: Strange it doesn't say there is an age restriction Dana H: It does imply teen, however. Daniel: That's okay I'll post this entire conversation on my website and let the public decide Daniel: is 19 a teen? Dana H: She is rated at age 21. Daniel: Sure but you said 18 and over Daniel: it's okay we are simply splitting hairs at this point Daniel: again your website is clearly deceptive [link] [comments] |
$240 increase in auto insurance premium with Progressive? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 01:45 PM PST Hi there! I've been with Progressive for 7 years and received my renewal letter for the next 6 months the other day with an increase of $240 in my premium. It's bringing my monthly rate from $95 to about $140. No changes in coverage. Haven't been in any at-fault accidents. Upon speaking with Progressive, I was told that this had nothing to do with anything I did but was due to "internal" changes in policy pricing in CA and that there was nothing they could do. Anyone else experiencing hikes like this? Any advice? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Which insurance company to deal with (post accident)? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 01:09 PM PST Location: New York City My car (V3) was unattended and legally parked on the left side of a one-way two-lane street. V1 on right lane and V2 on left lane were involved in a sideswipe. After the initial accident between V1 and V2, V2 rammed into V3. I have police report with insurance information of V1 and V2. With which insurance company do I file a claim? Thanks :) Edit: I do not full coverage; liability only. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a Website that gives Building Valuation Info by Address Posted: 09 Feb 2018 09:06 AM PST Hi, crossposted from r/insuranceagents My boss swears that he went to a Ruble/CIC seminar in the last few years that gave him a website that would look up building information by the building's address- year it was built, size, materials, sprinklers, etc. We can't figure out where he saved this info. Anyone know what I'm talking about? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Feb 2018 12:35 PM PST Hi, I was given a tax credit for HI this year, but I was still unable to sign-up for HI before the 12th because I still could not afford it even with the tax credit given to me. I started a small business and make less than 25k a year ATM. Of course it would have been nice to enroll, but I didn't have much of an option. I've called and spoken with the Connect Colorado team and they suggested Short-term Insurance, but I cannot afford that either. Is there any option that I am missing? [link] [comments] |
Diminished value for minor damage Posted: 09 Feb 2018 12:10 PM PST I'm in Texas and got rear ended, total repair cost was under $600. I have a 2015 Honda Civic and the person that hit me has State Farm. I called State Farm to ask about the diminished value and they said to take it to a dealer and get an Appraisal and send that in to them and they would go from there on whether there is a case for it or not. From a quick search in NADA and KBB the value was listed at about 10k the first appraisal I got was from CarMax and they said 11k. I am going to take it to another dealer and get another appraisal so if their appraisal is different than 11k which should I send to State Farm? The lower or higher appraisal? From reading other threads on Diminished Value I probably won't get jack shit. Edit: I did the 17(c) DV formula and that said about $250. 2015 Honda Civic Under $600 in repairs 33k miles Tl;dr should I send the insurance the higher or lower of appraisals I get from different dealers? Letting unwanted dental insurance lapse- will it hurt my credit score? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 12:03 PM PST So the situation is that before the end of 2017 I signed up for dental insurance through Healthcare.gov with Company (A). Less than 24 hours later, I changed my mind, canceled the sign-up process with Company (A), and went with Company (B) instead. Company (B) started charging me for January and February, I never sent any money to Company (A). I thought all was well. Then today (Feb. 9th) I get an invoice from Company (A). In it they explain that they never mailed an invoice for January 2018 because of a computer glitch and now they want premiums for Jan+Feb 2018. The invoice says that: "If payment is not received by 2/15/2018, the policy will be cancelled, with no effective coverage." So I'm fine with this policy cancelling itself, because I don't need it. But if I let it do so, will it harm my credit score, or harm me in any way whatsoever? [link] [comments] |
