He clearly understands economics better than I do, so I'm interested to read counter-arguments. It seems more likely that Berkshire Hathaway will announce they are acquiring Snapchat than this sub loving his framework, but if that miracle should happen, that would be useful too. Americans are spending less money on clothing Posted: 07 Feb 2018 04:59 AM PST |
Posted: 08 Feb 2018 12:09 AM PST I am an older guy (49) who doesn't have enough bonds, only 9%, because 1) I'm addicted to the thrill of equities 2) I have other income sources, such as my wife's bond-heavy portfolio and 3) I am stupid. I will have some cash to invest, and plan to make sure I add lots of bonds to balance my overall portfolio soon. The question is, which bonds to hold? Being an ETF person rather than a mutual fund guy, I mostly hold AGG and BND (very broad, short-ish timespan, surprisingly decent yield each year) and LQD (longer term, 3,5%-4% yield, which seems outstanding). Since these ETFs fell a bit over the past two weeks, are they a "buy" now? The other question is, in theory bonds and stocks are supposed to move differently from each other, hopefully going in different directions. Yet every time I pay attention to things, I see my bonds falling on days my stocks fell. Are they just positively correlated a bit right now, though this will reverse at some point in the future? Thanks in advance for your ideas! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Feb 2018 03:54 AM PST I found this article: Buffett: How inflation swindles the equity investor from 1977. One thing that this article is missing is This Chart Showing the bond yields over the last century. Remember this article was written in 1977 when bonds would get you 7 or 8% yield! This really made stocks less interesting. Contrast that to before, when the interest rates were quite low (2-4%) and everyone piled on into stocks (we don't need dividends! Just reinvest with those beautiful 12% corporate returns). Compare that cycle to now where interest rates are historically low and stocks are very attractive. However, the stock market seems to be wary of inflation and subsequent rising interest rates [link] [comments] |

Where will the 10 yr stabilize at? Posted: 07 Feb 2018 06:10 PM PST Its been really messing with our gains these past few weeks, i didnt even know it affected the market. What would be an acceptable rate? Whats the worst <realistic> scenario on where they end up. [link] [comments] |
Which do you invest in - Mutual fund vs ETF? Posted: 07 Feb 2018 10:08 PM PST I'm interested in seeing if people have a preference for one over the other. I've been mostly using mutual funds (vanguard), since they can easily be converted to ETF share classes. But with the recent market drop, I'm noticing it's a lot easier to sell/buy in volatile times with ETF since there is intraday trading. So... do you prefer mutual fund or ETF? Is there a clear winner? What are some pros and cons of each? I've done a lot of research over the past years, but haven't found a clear winner myself. Would love to see some other insights. Post-Falcon Heavy launch: Now might be the time to invest in publicly-traded space stocks! Posted: 07 Feb 2018 01:50 PM PST What do you guys think? I know there are the big-name players like Boeing and Lockheed Martin but there are also lots of up-and-coming smallish cap companies like the ones in this article that would be pretty interesting. Plus, some people are saying that we're going to have a sort of Space-Race: Episode 2? How likely though? It would be awesome to get in on this [link] [comments] |

Atari signed three new partnerships to expand RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch in Asia. Posted: 07 Feb 2018 09:23 AM PST Atari has signed three new partnerships to expand RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch in Asia. Atari has developed a specific version of RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch for each of the three countries concerned: China, Japan and South Korea. Local teams from partners will provide marketing and support services and community events. The development of the game for these new countries has required changes in content and adaptations to local cultures that go well beyond a simple translation of text. The local versions will come out gradually during the second calendar quarter of 2018 and will be the subject of specific communications when the time comes. Atari will receive royalties on the revenue generated by the game, without investment in marketing or community support. [link] [comments] |

Does it make sense to invest when you're paying a home loan? Posted: 07 Feb 2018 04:07 AM PST Hey guys, I was wondering I'm not in this situation though I'd like to see you're thoughts on this. Lets say I'm paying my loan but got some extra money would you buy stocks or just cut more from the loan? And if you where going to buy your first home would you pull everything out of the stock market to buy or leave them there (or percentage) Considering the loan has a 3% interest. Personally I think I would pull everything out as long as I'm at a profit. But another side of me is like an index has an average of 8% per year while a loan only has 3% wouldn't arbitraging these be a better idea? Though my 'good boy' personality would always choose to pay the house first before getting into more stocks what are your thoughts on this? Edit: A lot of you seem surprised by the 3% interest rate on a loan. Well I'm not from america haha in malta it's always been like that i believe (For a first buy meaning to live in. Rates are higher when purchasing to rent to others) [link] [comments] |

What's the point of stop loss? Posted: 07 Feb 2018 10:54 AM PST I had my stop loss at 10% for my stocks and some were triggered on money, but the price recovered after that, making me bought again at higher price. I get that stop loss may be good for a big crash like the one in 2008, but during a small sell off or flash crash, you would end up lose money instead. So what's a good use for stop loss? Ps: I also read a somewhere saying that setting a 15% stop loss is general better in buy and hold. How true is it? [link] [comments] |
