I bitched about my manager giving me untenable increases in responsibility 2 weeks ago, and now I have an update.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 12:26 AM PST

The update? I've been promoted. My base pay is increasing by 5k, and my commission (at a very achievable level) will add another 15k. I'm being given a $30M account, and my total expected revenues are going to be $100mil this year.

I was throwing a bitch fit 2 weeks ago but you guys told me to hold my tongue, and you were 100% right. I love this sub and can't appreciate it enough. Now I'll be able to put "responsible for $100million in revenue for my company."

How can sales people maintain a healthy weight?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 08:59 AM PST

I know this isn't exactly "sales" related but i figured you guys may understand the struggle better.

2 years in Medical Sales, traveled a lot, met lots of nice people and most importantly ate and drank a lot. It's been getting harder and harder to control my weight. Meanwhile the long hours makes it harder for me to find time to exercise. Does any of you has any good advice about controlling you apatite in front of the nice foods and avoiding the tons of alcohol I probably had to drink?

How do you guys handle email objections?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 11:35 AM PST

Just got an email back from a prospect:

    "Hi Brosie65,

We had a tentative appointment booked on Feb 8th at 9am.

At this time I am not interested in moving my services so I would like to cancel this appointment. If I change my mind in the future I will contact you.

    Thank you."

Company firing all managers, what's going on?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 10:15 AM PST

So, my guess is that the company I work for must be going broke.

They just fired all the dept heads. Half the team from our one other office in AZ. Fired our Orange Co. rep. They are taking all the salaried salespeople and moving them to commission based, taking away our car allowance and health plan.

Does this sound like they might be getting ready to sell the company? They make a good product, so I doubt they'd close up shop after 20 years.

    Thoughts based on this info?

Potential client does a behavioral 180

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 10:09 AM PST

I'll try to keep this short (too late). Did a casual walk in to coffee shop on Wednesday. Acceptable in my industry. No customers.

Told the guy I work for a coffee company, and he was friendly. He made coffees, we talked shop.

Made arrangements for me to return on Friday at 3:00.

Returned Friday and immediately the vibe was different. He said 3:00 was quiet time, but had then arranged for a big group of friends to visit at that time.

He was more than just distracted. He seemed irritable and on edge. Even though I'd described our product line before, he now said we didn't have enough selection. Made one pourover half-assed. Looked really paranoid, constantly looking past me into the parking lot, waiting for more friends to arrive. Was constantly making phone calls. No eye contact.

I don't mean to be judgemental, and I'm not an expert, but I honestly think this guy might have been on something. The distraction, paranoia, the dismissivenes. He was like a different person.

    Thoughts? Your own experiences?

Hosted dinner events for BD - anyone have experience?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 12:31 PM PST

Lately I keep getting calls from companies that will setup a private, hosted dinner with executives in a certain industry segment. They promise to deliver X amount of people with specific titles and seniority. This seems like an interesting way to get more enterprise business in the pipeline, if it's legit at all. Has anyone done an event like this, and if so, was it successful at all for you?

New to cold calling. I keep getting voicemails.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2018 07:43 AM PST

Hey everyone, I've had this job for a month now. I'm new at it & I'm still learning but we target enterprises (corporations, healthcare, universities, what have you) & I usually find the name & # of the person I need to speak with. Usually it's a CIO or director of IT. This week was frustrating because I kept getting their voicemails. Nearly all of them.

Just wanted to know what the next course of action is for most of you guys? I've left voicemails & I've sent emails. Just need to get people on the phone.

How has becoming good at sales helped you in life outside of work?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 03:36 PM PST

Easier to get discounts when you go shopping or has it really helped you in much bigger ways than just that?

Has anyone asked previous customers for feedback?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 06:53 PM PST

I'm settling into a new job and am currently very focused on refining my skills. I have a handful of previous customers that I'm connected with via Facebook or some level of personal connection beyond just the professional transactions of my time supporting their account.

Is there a way to ask for feedback on their experience of working with me in a way that's casual and not awkward? Or is it just a bad idea to even ask?

I'm open to any other ideas or resources on how to self assess my strengths and weaknesses. Thanks in advance sales-folk!

Question: What do you say when your client is deciding between you and another company?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 12:47 PM PST

i'm selling closets and my client is choosing between myself and a custom millworker who's doing other custom built ins in their home as well. They keep telling me they haven't made their decision of who they want to go with. I don't want to be too pushy but want to make sure they go with my company help!

Need advice on setting up a Commission Structure

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 06:13 PM PST

    Hey /r/Sales

I work in a B2C establishment where we have seen generous growth in the three years of operating. Last year, we hit a 62% growth in gross profits alone. Management has tempered expectations for this year, forecasting around 20% and have aligned our monthly quotas as such.

I have two sales/operations staff that are working on this with me, and I would very much want to motivate and encourage them to overachieve our goals for this year. I've decided that implementing a commissions structure would be the best course as to give them 'equity' in our sales performance.

My initial structure in mind was to give them a base percentage of the gross profit over quota. So if our quota for the month is at $100, and our actual sales went to $150, I would give them commissions from a percentage (maybe 1%) of $50 (actual sales-quota).

I'm very new in a sales position, so I'd appreciate any inputs you guys have in how to keep our staff motivated, driven and fairly compensated for their performances. Thank you all!

tldr; need commission structure for a b2c sales team.

Two Offers, please help me decide between Tech Sales vs B2b Group Insurance Sales

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 05:27 PM PST

I have been trying to break into sales for the past six months after working the past 3.5 years in IT. I recently got a couple offers and would love some help deciding.

I was recently offered two jobs: A. Business Development Manager Role at a F500 tech company Job requires a lot of cold calling Claim that within 3 years you could rise up and be a sales manager Job is based in Fort Myers, FL Pay starts at $75k base and you are expected to make another 35k on top of that in commish

Option B Stay at the company I currently work (F100, Big healthcare company) which is paying for my MBA. I would be working as a Sales Rep in Group Insurance. Work out of Pittsburgh, PA All sales are made through brokers, no cold calling required. 1st year guarantee of $110K From what I have heard, this Group sales guys pull in major money...usually after three years you should be making 200k+ if you are good.

    Any thoughts?

How often to visit A, B, C clients

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 01:09 PM PST

I was wondering how often you visit these clients. For me A is bi weekly, B is monthly and C quarterly but it doesn't feel like a good flow.
