I've got an interview coming up for a Senior Associate position with Big 4 FDD. What should I be prepared for?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 09:05 PM PST

I've worked on a half dozen deals with my national firm and wanted to see if I could move up into an FDD role at Big 4. I got a response from a recruiter and will be starting the interview process soon. I'm a little nervous that they might expect me to have a little more technical aptitude in TS than I actually have. I plan to spend the time I have between now and the interviews reviewing the engagements that I worked on so that I can speak intelligently about the issues and results of those engagements. What can I do to make myself a compelling candidate?

    Timing of Transferring Firms

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 05:27 PM PST

Looking to switch to a bigger firm in 2018. I am a tax associate and at the moment I have some work to do in the summer/trying to get more. Besides post YE/evaluation period, is there a time when it is best to make a move?

    I can’t stand it anymore - Big 4

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 09:22 AM PST

How in the hell can anybody live this kind of life? Wasting away all of your youth and creativity in front of a computer screen 60+ hours and then once you're done with that you go study for an exam that is increditiably dry. Bosses are dicks which make you constantly stressed out, and you're not even making that much if you think about how much you're working. The only good thing about this job is that i can brag to family and friends that I work for a Big 4, but that's it, I'm sacrificing my liveliehood just to inflate my ego. Whoever is thrilled about this kind of life has been lying to themselves for so long, that they actually believe it's awesome. But behind that illusion is a big ocean of hidden misery. Nobody as a young child wishes for this kind of life in the future, but as you aged all the brainwashing for material success made you contempt with this lifestyle. You don't even get rich from it. In the next month I'll be working a cozy 9-5 A/R, with enough pay to keep me happy. Friendly reminder that Big 4 is a meme

    Peace out bye

    Runescape Life applications

I just used Runescape as the perfect analogy to kind of explain the operations of a mining client. Feel's pretty good to know that that would come in handy one day.

Who here is running their own accounting company or side clients? What’s your favorite thing about it and what’s the worse?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 02:59 PM PST

My favorite is the flexibility and my worst is keeping up to date with industry changes.

What tone should I be using when talking to a recruiter on Linkedin?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 10:14 PM PST

So I connected with a recruiter and she is pretty hot. (Sexy Asian that is probably around my age). Anyways I don't want to shit where I eat so I am going to be professional.

After conversing... Talking about the city, my goals, and just having a casual conversation she started using "lol" and stuff?

Should I maintain a professional tone or should I go to be a bit more casual.

    Payment sent to wrong account

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 10:08 PM PST

Hi everyone, So I work for a company that was purchased last August. When the new company took over, they didn't inform our customers about the new ownership or the new remit to information. When I became aware of this, I emailed one of our customer's accounting departments and asked them to change the account. They replied to something else in my email, but made no mention of the account change, so I asked again. Meanwhile, it turns out they sent the payment to the old account. The old account is still open and the new company has no access to it. Does anyone have any advice on how this should be handled? Who should be contacted? Who has the authority to reverse the payment? I've asked the customer to send payment to the correct account, since it was their mistake, but haven't heard back from them. Is there nothing I can do short of insisting they pay before I'll accept another order from them? Thanks!

What do recruiters look for college students?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 09:48 PM PST

I have heard from various people, and the recruiting guide on the side bar that firms really want people that are easy to talk to or just people who know how to have a conversation. But I would suspect that they might want something more like someone with good grades, leadership positions, and/or work experience.

So, do firms look at your grades over the leadership ops you might have had or do they tend to favor people with grades and work experience. I currently only work in retail but have a relatively high gpa around 3.7.

Is it better to get a job at a “big 4” or just a smaller company?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 09:48 PM PST

I read nothing but horror stories on here about working at a big 4 and even one of my parents friends told me they left PwC for a private small business because it was too much stress and not worth the money.. despite the fact they were probably making close to $40 an hour. Honestly i wouldnt mind getting paid less it meant work-life balance is good. The friend told me the only people who enjoy working at the big 4's are the firm partners because they make millions per year? How does one even become a firm partner for accounting? Very curious about that.

Leaving Big 4 firm after getting Becker but before start date

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 09:24 PM PST

I assume that the firm would request reimbursement, but has anybody ever done this and

A.) had the firm NOT request reimbursement (it was a direct billing) B.) had Becker be able to change the payment code to direct the payment to the new firm instead of the old one.

Thinking of moving away and Big 4 is not prevalent in my desired city. Don't want to pay firm ~4k for Becker

Manufacturing Accounting with QB Pro? Or do I need QB Enterprise?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 08:36 PM PST

One of my clients is a clothing manufacturer. She buys materials by the yard as well as buttons, tags and beads, which she provides to an outside company to assemble. The manufacturer returns the finished goods to her and she's responsible for delivering these items to her customers - the retailers.

She is currently going through 2017 and trying to determine her profitability for certain products. She has Quickbooks Pro 2017, but it doesn't seem to allow us to assemble items into a finished product like Enterprise does. Without the ability to assemble items, it doesn't seem like we'll be able to do determine profitability by product. Is there a workaround?

    Accounting Homework Help

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 08:29 PM PST

Hi, I am stuck on this one question and I have no idea how to solve it. Any help?

Gary Stevens and Mary James are production managers in the Consumer Electronics Division of General Electronics Company, which has several dozen plants scattered in locations throughout the world. Mary manages the plant located in Des Moines, Iowa, while Gary manages the plant in El Segundo, California. Production managers are paid a salary and get an additional bonus equal to 10% of their base salary if the entire division meets or exceeds its target profits for the year. The bonus is determined in March after the company's annual report has been prepared and issued to stockholders.

Shortly after the beginning of the new year, Mary received a phone call from Gary that went like this:

Gary: How's it going, Mary? Mary: Fine, Gary. How's it going with you? Gary: Great! I just got the preliminary profit figures for the division for last year and we are within $62,100 of making the year's target profits. All we have to do is pull a few strings, and we'll be over the top! Mary: What do you mean? Gary: Well, one thing that would be easy to change is your estimate of the percentage completion of your ending work in process inventories. Mary: I don't know if I can do that, Gary. Those percentage completion figures are supplied by Tom Winthrop, my lead supervisor, who I have always trusted to provide us with good estimates. Besides, I have already sent the percentage completion figures to corporate headquarters. Gary: You can always tell them there was a mistake. Think about it, Mary. All of us managers are doing as much as we can to pull this bonus out of the hat. You may not want the bonus check, but the rest of us sure could use it.

The final processing department in Mary's production facility began the year with no work in process inventory. During the year, 280,000 units were transferred in from the prior processing department and 270,000 units were completed and sold. Costs transferred in from the prior department totaled $55,720,000. No materials are added in the final processing department. A total of $19,347,500 of conversion cost was incurred in the final processing department during the year.

    Required:

    1. Tom Winthrop estimated that the units in ending work in process inventory in the final processing department were 25% complete with respect to the conversion costs of the final processing department. If this estimate of the percentage completion is used, what would be the cost of goods sold for the year?

    2. Does Gary Stevens want the estimated percentage completion to be increased or decreased?

    3. What percentage completion would result in increasing reported net operating income by $62,100 over the net operating income that would be reported if the 25% figure were used?
