What am I supposed to do after crashing someone's car?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 01:22 PM PST

I was driving my friend's car and caused and accident with another vehicle. They have some damage and no injuries were reported, but the car I was driving has more damage. There is insurance on the car and I have separate insurance. My friend is under her parents' policy and they are refusing to file any claims or pay. They want nothing to do with it. It was my fault so I do want to pay however my insurance only covers the car I drove and not the car I hit. What am I supposed to do now? I have tried contacting the family whose car I hit and they told me they talked to their insurance and they told them if they can't get her information they will hire a lawyer. I want to do as much as possible to fix this situation but at this point, I am at a loss for ideas and words. I have already told the other party involved the owner of the car isn't doing anything and offered to write them a check since I have no other option. I am 22 and live in Ohio, if that helps anything. My friend has a clean driving record and does not want this on hers, and this is my first accident as well.

    Home Insurance Claim Denied

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:53 PM PST

I had a burst pipe (drain line from kitchen sink and dishwasher to main line) and had a water mitigation company perform the cleanup to the tune of $3500 (they said water was Cat2). Insurance claim was denied because there was no "damage", just water removal. Isn't the water removal considered damage, since they had to replace the vapor barrier, lye the ground, and lay down a new barrier, before I could even get a plumber to repair the pipe? I was trying to research, but couldn't find anything that spelled out what is considered "damage".

Just bought a car. Can anyone give me tips on finding and deciding on car insurance?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:33 PM PST

I'm 24 and just bought a 2013 Civic Si. I've never had to look for car insurance before and to be honest am pretty lost. I don't make the most money so I'm looking for tips on finding good car insurance for as cheap as possible.

Can anyone give tips on what "good insurance" is? Do I just shop around and ask for "full coverage"? I live in Las Vegas, NV if that helps with input. Thank you in advance!

Can two people be on a title? And is it a bad idea?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 09:29 PM PST

Just bought my first car. My wife would like to be jointly listed on the title, which is reasonable.

However, I'm wondering about any insurance implications that would have. I have been licensed for twelve years, and she has been licensed for a few months. So I know that if it were insured in her name, it would be more expensive than insuring it in my name.

Does the same thing go for Titles? Would having her name on the title(alongside mine) negatively affect our insurance costs? Or am I just worrying about nothing?

Pay structure for Insurance P & C Producers

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 11:23 AM PST

Please weigh in on how P & C Insurance producers/CSRs are supposed to be paid. I am currently working full-time in West TN for a leading insurance carrier but for an agent of the company. I was told when I got my license for P & C I would get commission as well as my hourly wage. I am getting a little bonus now that I've been there over a year, but I am quoting, servicing, and basically writing most of the policies in PL and not receiving commission. How do you get paid?

    Who's liable for the crash.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 04:36 PM PST

About a week ago, or so my mom was driving down the freeway. (second lane to the right). Traffic was moving smooth (45-55 mph.) Then two other cars in front of her serve out of her lane reveling a stalled car. (ran out of gas, no one in the car). No hazard lights on or nothing. She says she didn't have time to react. So she crashed into the stalled car. Now she got a letter from the guys insurance saying she's a 100% at fault, and must pay, not really a big deal we have insurance. No one was hurt. It just seems a little unfair to me. Shouldn't the guy who is driving with no gas be at fault. Does anyone know the ruling on this? Please, and thanks

Ps: After my mom crashed she pulled over to the shoulder, just so some other guy crashes into the same car.

How should I insure my vehicle?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:58 PM PST

So here's the situation, I currently reside in the state of Virginia and have been living here for about 6 months after moving from Florida where I was for about 2-3 years.

While I was in Florida, I bought/financed a new vehicle that I am still paying on. It has Florida Tags, Title, Registration. While I was in Florida, I maintained Florida insurance through Geico.

After I moved to Virginia, I updated my insurance to meet qualifications for Virginia. I did not register my car in Virginia and continued to carry Florida Tags.

My Florida Tags will be expiring this year late summer/early fall. I've checked with my home of residence state and I can register my vehicle with them through mail. Trying to renew my Florida tags seems impossible as I no longer has any foothold there.

My question is thus: Where should I get auto insurance on what basis? Do I continue to hold Virginia insurance because my vehicle is here and I drive 100% here? Do I obtain auto insurance from Texas because my plates and vehicle registration will be from Texas?

I've done multiple searches and got mixed results.

Oh I am also military, which is the only reason I can voluntarily not declare Virginia as my home of residence, remote register a vehicle in Texas, and maintain an out-of-state driver's license.

Car broken into night before selling

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:30 PM PST

    Hello,
I've been working on selling an older car that broke down on me a couple weeks ago. I made plans to test drive it with an interested buyer who already made me an offer, and we made plans to meet where I had the car parked this morning. When I got there, I noticed that the hood was up and the potential buyer was in the car, who then asked me if the car was normally 'that way' and if I left it off the ad on purpose. Someone broke in last night, stole the stereo, and tore apart the steering column trying to get it to start (not happening with a dead battery).
The potential buyer offered me 100 for it after we managed to jump it and basically hotwire it. Ready to be done with the car, I agreed and we did the paperwork at the DMV including a release of interest.
Since I lost value in the vehicle, but immediately sold it after, is it worth looking into filing a claim?

[Missouri] Got into my first auto accident yesterday. Help please

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:13 PM PST

Pretty much what I said above.

The accident: I was at a stop sign trying to turn right on street A (so I'm on street B). The other drive is on street A and trying to turn left to street B. When she turned she didn't turn enough and hit me head-on on the driver side of my vehicle shattering the driver side headlight, scrapping and denting my front bumper, and it seems like there's a panel underneath my car that is now loose. We made sure we were both okay, she kept apologizing, and we exchanged insurance information. I dialed 911 and was asked if anyone was hurt on the scene and if the cars were driveable. I said no one was hurt and the cars were driveable so they said that all we had to do was exchange information and make a police report to our local PD at our convenience. I ended up leaving and going to the doctors appointment. Few hours later I ended feeling discomfort in my left leg and the back of my neck and shoulders. I notified my doctor and he notated it and told me if it continues to make another appointment with him.

So at this point, I'm at the stage where I've notified my insurance and the other drivers insurance told them I wanted to pursue using the other drivers insurance to pay for the repairs and anything else that would occur.

My question is: what do I do now? The other insurance told me that the examiner/adjuster would be back on Monday and they'll call me. Do I go to a local body shop to get an estimate first? What do I expect?

    Thanks!

Edit: should I go to the ER to have them examine me even though I already went to my doctor?

Losing Tricare Prime coverage, need help

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:06 PM PST

I'm in TN, my dad (sponsor) is in FL. My dad is retired military so I have been under Tricare. My dad assumed that the Obamacare "remaining on a parent's plan until 26" thing applied to Tricare as well. It doesn't. I turn 21 in exactly one month and I am not enrolling into college until fall, so I'll lose my coverage. At this moment I don't have a job, and I am getting married at the end of this year. I need to visit a psychiatrist every few months and I am on one medication.

    1) how royally fucked am I if I can't find a job?

    2) is there any sort of short term coverage plan out there?

    Rental car reimbursement question

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 01:02 PM PST

I'm 18 years old and have my own insurance policy on a car I own myself outright. I didn't elect rental car reimbursement because I don't really know of any companies that will rent a car to an 18 year old for a reasonable rate and it seemed like a waste of money given the 50 dollars a day I think the policy covered, which I think would be far less than any rental company would charge for an 18 year old. My question is first does that make any sense? And second, if someone were to hit me would their insurance cover the high cost of that car rental? Thanks.

My insurance company is gouging me and I can do nothing.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 04:33 PM PST

My auto insurance company raised my rates this year by $40/monthly. I've been with them for 02 years and haven't made claims with them. I have an at fault accident in April 2015 (3 demerit points), and 01 U-turn ticket in July 2016.

This company offers rates 50% less than anyone else (still as per yesterday the cheapest quote I could find was $900 more than what I pay now.) My renewal is at the end of February. I renewed last year and my rates dropped drastically. Great. Call this year I get hit with an $40 spike. Try to negotiate it down with no success. I got 02 different stories. The first time "You're area has been hit with a spike". The second time "You're vehicle safety ratings have been adjusted."

I can afford to pay though, as any logical person I find this ridiculous.

    20M, Ontario, Canada

What can I do to bring my rate down? Anything? Should I look for another company?

    Edit: Clarified $40/monthly

    How to shop auto insurance?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 04:59 AM PST

I am a first time car buyer and I have many questions in regards to the process of acquiring my first car. I will be moving to Boston MA and buying a car there. My questions are the following:

    1. How do I shop for auto insurance and are they variable depending on the state? Is there a marketplace sort of website tool that I can use to compare insurance policies?
    2. Will the insurance process be different if I bought a car from a dealership vs if I bought a car from a private dealer? I would be interested to know this since I may have a friend's 2014 VW Passat lined up if there doesn't seem to be any disadvantage in the insurance regard. (Otherwise, I may look into a Honda dealership for a Civic or something)
    3. Do I need to buy the car first before I apply for insurance? Or get the insurance first and then report what my VIN is to the company? Sorry I really don't know how the process works... I am rather confused on the steps of work I have to go through. Buy car, get it registered at RMV (title transfer), then get insurance on the car?

Thanks for any help! Also, any "I wish I knew this when I bought my first car" sort of tips are also welcome!

Daughter Backed Into An Illegally Parked Car. Is She 100% at Fault?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:24 AM PST

My daughter was backing out of a parking space and she hit the back of a car that was parked behind her. The other car was parked in the space adjacent to a handicapped spot that is blocked off to allow vans to open up their side door and let a wheelchair ramp extend out to allow someone in a wheelchair to exit the vehicle. It is never legal to park in these spaces and the other car was not displaying a handicapped placard that would allow her to park in the adjacent handicapped space. Therefore, the other car was blocking the handicapped spot's adjacent space for allowing wheelchair access and even if the car would have been parked in the handicapped space, it would have been illegally parked.

I know my daughter is at least partially at fault because she was operating the moving vehicle. However, does the fact that the other car was illegally parked cause the driver of the other car to have any responsibility for the accident?

There is no damage to my daughter's car and appeared to be only minor damage to the other vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle contacted us and said that if we paid them $1,400, they would not contact the insurance company. I think this is a ludicrously high amount, but if the insurance company does get involved, will my daughter be found to be 100% at fault for this accident?

This occurred in Oregon -- if that is relevant to know.
