Posted: 28 Jan 2018 11:14 PM PST Actually, a Nazi walked into my shop. He was polite at first, I ignored the prison tattoos, I answered his questions, I provided excellent customer service. But he wanted to hang out for a few minutes, shoot the shit. Before I knew it he was telling me never trust black people and gleefully showing off the swastikas on his neck. I was dumbfounded. I've noticed an uptick in the number of customers who are open about some pretty racist, sexist views. I live in the Deep South, so I shouldn't be shocked, but lately it seems to be getting worse: people want to vent about politics and immigration and whatever they read of Facebook. In the past I've told myself their money is as good as anyone else's, I've tried to ignore it, changed the subject-- but lately I'm thinking about closing up altogether. I don't make enough money to put up with these people.. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Jan 2018 06:00 PM PST Hey, my wife and I own a very small farm. It isn't really a business, we don't make any profit, but we are pretty self sufficient and the little money that we do make covers our leftover expenses, health insurance and vet bills, tools etc. My wife is 3 months pregnant with twins, so her workload is going to be light for the next few weeks and after that nothing for awhile, so I'm going to need to hire a part time employee to help me. I don't need or want any major help, the primary thing that I need assistance with is milking the goats and the sheep twice per day, it's not difficult work but there are usually 5-7 goats and 2-5 sheep in milk at any given time, it's time consuming and cuts into my other morning and evening responsibilities, so I need someone to lighten the load. The work itself is very simple, you pick the animal out of the pasture and lead to the milking stand, you secure it and give it food, you sanitize it's belly and udders, you milk it, you weigh the milk and record how much each animal gave, you bottle it and put it in the milk fridge, and I do the rest after that, during the summer I might enlist their help with shearing, but that's a big might. The work would be between 2 and 3 hours per day, cut in half between early morning (4:30ish) and early evening/late afternoon, perfect for someone in school. How much is fair to pay for such work? Minimum wage in this state is just under $9, but I really don't know what the work is worth monetarily. None of the milk that they milk will be used commercially, it's all for personal consumption or part of the herdshare, but since it's livestock are there any special licenses etc that I have to get to hire someone? Am I legally allowed to hire a teenager for this sort of thing, or does it have to be an adult? Also, how do I do my due diligence and check up on this person before I hire them and give them access to my livelihood? I'm not really savvy when it comes to this sort of thing but it's especially important that I know that this person is decent and trustworthy, because these animals are a big part of how my family survives, a friend of mine hired help last year and didn't check up on her background because she seemed like a nice person, after two weeks he left her unsupervised for 45 minutes when he went to the store and she released his animals, she was arrested but most of his chickens, all of his rabbits and more than half of his goat herd and flock of sheep were gone, as was his livelihood, and that could have been prevented had he looked into her and found out that she was part of some sort of political organization. I swore that I wouldn't hire help after that, but I don't see another option, so I want to be careful. I know that this is probably different than the questions normally on here and I apologize if this is the wrong forum, I didn't know where else to post. I'm in Michigan if it matters, on the edge of Metro Detroit. [link] [comments] |
Get a separate credit card number just for recurring expenses - but using same account Posted: 28 Jan 2018 11:02 PM PST Lots of recurring expenses connected to the business credit card. What if I lose the business card in my wallet, then it would be a big hassle changing all these monthly services. Any way to get another card with a different number but still tied to the same account? I don't want to apply for another separate account, want to keep it simple as possible. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Jan 2018 10:28 PM PST Not sure if this is the correct place for this. I went to my local printing place to have some flyers made. Gave her some of my pictures and a rough idea of what I wanted and they came up with an awesome flyer. They don't charge for designs. I love the flyer however when I got prices for them to be printed they just seemed crazy high. I price checked it with another guy and they were almost half the price for the same size flyer. Kind of stuck in a shitty place now. Do I have someone else design me a very similar flyer that is going to be more affordable to print? Do I just get the one that was already designed? I plan to order literally tens of thousands of these flyers in the future so the cost really does add up quick. Can I get in trouble if I take the flyer they made and get it printed somewhere else? I really don't want to do that honestly because I'm not that type of person. They quoted me $698 for 5,000 flyers where another guy quoted me $399 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jan 2018 10:14 PM PST Hey everyone, wanted some advice. I'm in the process of launching a home cleaning service and wanted some insight on hiring contractors vs employees. From what I've found is that there is some gray areas, so if someone with expertise could tell me which way to go I'd appreciate it! In a perfect world: -I'd hire cleaners in teams of two -they will use their own vehicle -they will their own cleaning products -I will provide them with a "company checklist" of what gets cleaned -they will wear T-shirt's with my logo -I will delegate the scheduled cleanings based on customers wants and teams availability. -they will be paid a percentage of the cost to the customer and keep 100% of tips Thanks in advance! Farmer's Market - No Rental Agreement? Posted: 28 Jan 2018 09:09 PM PST Hi guys. So I am hoping to start selling at my local farmers market with a buddy of mine. We've both been successful selling online, but selling in person would open up more opportunities as well as let us avoid eBay and PayPal fees. I've been corresponding with the general manager of the market via email. I have a digital paper trail (proof) of him confirming the price for the first month's rent and the security deposit, as well as the agreed upon space to start selling. However, after asking, there is no rental agreement. I did, however, ask about some do's and don'ts as to what I can/can't do with the stand. He said I can decorate however I'd like, so long as it's kept clean and professional looking, and my product is displayed nicely. I am still concerned about my security deposit though. There is nothing legally binding him to give me that money back, correct? But in the event I did have any issues, I have these emails as proof. Does this sound odd to not have a rental agreement? He's only renting month-to-month, and I'm only looking for one month to test the waters out basically. I just don't want to be out a $450 security deposit... Thanks again for your help everyone. People have always been very helpful to me on this subreddit and /r/Ebay. Edit: Forgot to mention that I do intend on paying him with a check. I'm sure that's much more secure than just using cash. Currently have $80k USD and want to start a business costing ~$500k USD. What are our options? Posted: 28 Jan 2018 11:02 PM PST We have done the market research, have a solid business plan, and know that we have a niche that will be extremely profitable within the first year. Currently we possess ~$80k USD between my partner and I, with the potential for maybe ~50-75k in additional capital. We are not currently married. But plan on doing so soon. We both have credit scores in the 800s. Is it smarter to use our credit apart in different ways, or together after getting married? Basically we are trying to leverage as little capital as possible for the biggest loan we can get between the 2 of us, due to the nature of the business we plan on starting(being quite confident in the fact that we will pay off a loan VERY quickly). The other decision we have is to buy a property and remodel, buy land and build(we do have construction connections), or to simply rent, knowing that we will grow in size quickly. But part of this depends on what the smartest way to invest our money is. [link] [comments] |
Earning money/starting a business. Posted: 28 Jan 2018 09:49 AM PST I'm 19 y/o living at home, very shy. (I can design, play guitar and make small games) (I have no business experience) What would you do to earn AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE? (Legally) Preferably making as less contact with people as possible. (chatting/e-mailing is possible) I tought maybe doing something online? Other ideas? Doesn't have to do with design/music/gamedev. Anybody know anything about "Pizza by the Slice" businesses Posted: 28 Jan 2018 10:18 AM PST A little background, I studied at the University of Florida, and was intrigued by how many people would buy slices of pizza from this hole-in-the-wall place right by the main bars. Every night three or four employees would split the duties of baking the pizza and ringing customers up. Best part about it is that the turnaround time is pretty immediate, and since most customers are drunk, they usually purchase more than they can eat, which is great from a business perspective. I'd believe the employees get paid close to minimum as they're college students, and I can't imagine the pizzas and materials costing too much. So there's that. Now, the city I currently live in, has a decent bar-scene. Not as great as Gainesville, but it does alright. The opportunity here is that there is no "pizza by the slice" or "drunk food" equivalent. My question is, what are some reasons why there isn't already something? And if there really aren't any barriers to entry, does anyone have experience with starting something like this? Thanks for any input! [link] [comments] |
What are some business ideas a college student could start and do part time? Posted: 28 Jan 2018 05:31 PM PST I am currently an accounting major and I got to university full time. My long term goal is to get my cpa and to own my own firm one day but I would like to do something right now that would give me some experience owning my own business. I am learning c# and it Jas become one of my hobbies. I am also interested in food and cooking but a lot of food business ideas feel like they are only good if you go into them full time which I can't do. My dad always tells me to do something with signage or framing but I just don't know how to get clients with that. Is anyone here in the same position and have any suggestions. [link] [comments] |
Multi Member LLC Tax Question - deductions Posted: 28 Jan 2018 09:54 AM PST I started up an LLC near the end of this past year via LegalZoom. I've personally paid for the startup costs, operating costs, tax software (TurboTax Business), and several small IT assets. This is because the LLC entity has not received any payments. AKA, has no money to spend. And won't be receiving payments (revenue) till this year. These deductions I listed above, I file personally right? I don't report this on the LLC's Form 1065? Or if I do, how do I go about handling it to make sure those deductions get passed on to me since I paid those directly? What are my options? Feel free to point me to any documentation that may answer my questions as well. Thanks Edit: What I Found so far:

Posted: 28 Jan 2018 05:05 PM PST I am thinking about starting a fishing equipment store. I would sell items in 2 ways. Private label from overseas and sell to retailers and directly to customers through amazon and my own website. Also drop ship from US based wholesalers.
I have heard that I need to pay excise tax (form 720) on fishing equip. Who would pay the excise tax in these two methods? Does the importer (me) and the retailer pay excise tax? How would I go about setting up my LLC to collect and pay this tax? [link] [comments] |
Suggestions for logo and marketing design? Posted: 28 Jan 2018 04:42 PM PST Hey guys, just opened a home remodelling company. I've ran two businesses before that failed, learned from those mistakes. But my question for you guys is how to go about having a logo designed? Where should I look and what should I ask those people I find? Ive never had a logo professionally designed so this is new to me. Ideally I'd like to find someone I can work with to make business cards and marketing items as well. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Uncollateralized financing for business acquisition Posted: 28 Jan 2018 03:41 PM PST Does anyone know of a reputable institution that will provide uncollateralized lending for a small business acquisition? Loan amount of approximately $300,000. Business and personal cash flow can support the loan assuming a 5 year amortization. [link] [comments] |
Anybody use Quickbooks for bookkeeping but with a different software for orders/invoicing? Posted: 28 Jan 2018 02:27 PM PST Currently I use a software I wrote for time tracking and orders because there's just nothing out there that really fits my needs. For tracking monthly bills, vendor expenses, and etc I just use a Google spreadsheet. I'm sick of having to manually go through my bank records to enter stuff in the spreadsheet so I'm considering using Quickbooks, but I've got a few concerns. First, I've used QB at previous jobs and the software was a buggy pile of shit. It had more memory leaks than an Alzheimer's patient and database corruption was a bi-monthly thing. The interface was clumsy and was so full of things that you didn't apply to you that it was hard to find the features you did need. Second, I don't want to use their invoicing functionality because they lack several features that I need. I'm hoping there are others on here that use a separate order/billing software that can weigh in on how smoothly that goes. I know at one previous job they had a separate online ordering system for the web shop and one employee dedicated to replicating the online orders into QB orders which is absurd. [link] [comments] |

Insight needed on starting Offshore Company, Tax Posted: 28 Jan 2018 01:23 PM PST Hello , I might not be in the right subreddit for this post if so please tell me wich subreddit i should use and delete this post! I would like to know you guys input on my current situation. I am born and living in Belgium and a foreign exchange trader and cryptocurrencies trader. I havent withdrawn any money yet. And i did read on our Belgian newspaper some time ago that bitcoin/crypto speculators should pay 33% to the tax man, i already know foreign exchange traders have to pay around that percentage on payouts also So i have done some searching and have seen that Belgium citizens can start an offshore company in Seychelles and have to pay zero percentage tax ! ( seems best country to choose) I have zero expirience in starting an company and how where and how to open an bank account under the offshore company. Wich is totally legal as i have read. And i tought maybe you guys would have some insights on this matter, how to do all of this if this is the way to go an be under legal rules and not get sued for tax evasion. I have an neteller account wich i do not know is safe to use and be in regulation with tax and if this is an legal way to transfer to. Also i am not sure on taxation on cryptocurrencies in belgium , maybe you can find this easily or know something about this? [link] [comments] |
