44% of Small Businesses have never purchased insurance. Posted: 25 Jan 2018 03:24 PM PST So curious, what's your business, how big is it, and do you have businessowners insurance? If no, why not? [link] [comments] |
How do you find the right software to run your business? Posted: 26 Jan 2018 03:57 AM PST I notice there are a lot of questions around what's the best XXXX software. Interested to know once you've gone about identifying the kind of software you need and narrowing your selection down. What criteria do you use to make the final choice of one over the other? Are my friends being scammed by a SEO Agency? What exactly such an agency should actually do? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 03:02 PM PST Hi, My friends run a small business, and about 2 years ago they have signed a deal with a "SEO agency" which claimed to be able to help them with their ranking in google. 2 years went by and nothing much changed. According to the deal the SEO Agency has to take care of the website, "optimize" content, add new articles (written by the client, "optimized after some time" by the agency). Recently a part of the website was malfunctioning, so I was asked to take a look at it - I logged into their WP admin panel, updated everything there was to update and it started working again (there were over 30 plugin updates). So, since the agency was supposed to do just that, and apparently they didn't, I asked those friends if they receive any reports from the SEO Agency on a monthly/quarterly basis. Turns out they do, so they've sent everything over to me. I took a look at those reports and everything seems like bullsh*t to me. For example, in one month they've added one article to the blog (text provided by the client), "optimized" and formatted text on 3 different subpages (I only see that they've divided text on some pages into multiple paragraphs). And that's it. There are also some pdf reports of certain keyword positions in Google - the report has more than 100 pages, and seems to be generated by some kind of a tool - there's a summary of all keywords and their positions, and then each keyword separately, with a separate graph and breakdown of position by day. I find it weird that it's really unclear what they actually do, position changes seem like they're naturally fluctuating over time; all the changes on site listed in monthly report can be done in ~5 mins, ie. add one post to blog, divide text in one post into three paragraphs. I have no idea how they even track traffic on the site - Google Analytics are not installed on the page. I have no idea how to SEO - but everything that agency does seems a bit shady to me. I would greatly appreciate any insight as to whether it's normal, and what a typical SEO agency should actually do. [link] [comments] |
Peculiar untapped idea. Need help! Posted: 25 Jan 2018 02:36 PM PST Hey dudes I have this idea to do smoking party rentals. Kind of like a catering service but of tobacco related products. Hookahs/cigars etc. where me and a crew would bring a certain amount of product and charge by package sets. I have thought the cost well through and it's very minimal. But do you guys think there is a market for this ? Mostly as a "well developed" side gig. Not full time [link] [comments] |
Fired for stealing goods (on camera) - can/should the owner deduct cost of goods from final wages? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 12:37 PM PST My brother owns a restaurant. He noticed some cases of wine had gone missing and checked the security footage. It seems one of the waitstaff stole the wine and put it in their car. A police report has been filed and the employee terminated. The employee denied everything, even when there is clear video evidence of the whole event, including his car license plate and his face clearly shown. The employee is still owed a weeks wages and the wine is gone. Can my brother legally deduct the cost of the wine from the wages? If so, should it be the invoice cost, or the cost listed on the menu? Total invoice cost of the wine was a bit over $500. [link] [comments] |
Software solution for screen print operation. Posted: 25 Jan 2018 05:54 PM PST I am quickly realizing we need a better system for running my screen print shop. We have an interesting dynamic for a print shop in that we also have a retail store attached and are hoping to add fulfillment to the mix. We use quickbooks online for all of our invoicing and accounting and have implemented our own systems for the production workflow. Our issue is that we are using too many different systems and it leaves room for errors in relaying project information to the production team. Also, we have no clear system for scheduling projects. I believe I am looking for an ERP software. Though, I haven't found one that encompasses all of our needs. Ideally, we could invoice, create work orders, schedule production, create POs, run reports, and automate as much as possible. CRM and fulfillment on top of that would be great. Industry specific shop management options seem stuck in 1999 or are not as detail oriented as I need them to be. Also, we are a small operation still and can't justify a million dollars a month. However, I do expect substantial growth this year with some very promising projects on our plate. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Jan 2018 06:03 AM PST I'm looking for a business email that is easy to use and set up. Currently all three of us are using different Gmail accounts. I've been looking into getting gsuite but it has way to many settings and it's been pretty confusing, any thoughts on front or zoho services? 360 is an option but I was looking for something a little more friendly for the younger app generation. Thanks all, I do have a website since 2014. Until this point I've been running the show so Gmail was easy and now that I have employees I need to upgrade. I'm going to give gsuite another try but zoho sounds pretty easy too. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2018 12:16 AM PST Hi thanks for taking the time to check this post. As a business owner I know it is a struggle to find your ideal customer. Loyal customers sometimes have to leave when they are moving to another place and for many other reasons the ideal customer might leave and all of it is not your fault it can be frustrating trying to replace your ideal customers with others. Even if you don't have that problem your problem might be finding more of these people. Truth is you are right and also it doesn't matter if you are in the suburbs or living inside of the busiest cities in the world the truth is there are many of your ideal customers just waiting to know about you. It doesn't matter how long you are in the business if you are using the right marketing strategies you could easily reach hundreds of people every single day on a 5 dollar a day budget from your own laptop by leveraging the power of social media, but here is the catch a lot of people nowadays try going into the online world to bring more revenue. Everybody has heard of Ecommerce here I assume and what separates people that make a name for their brand and the others that don't make a name for their brand and advertise the wrong way end up quitting and seeing the online ads as some sort of a scam and that it doesn't work. The same principal applies for small businesses and local businesses some try it and see that it didn't work for them and they assume that it will never work and end up quitting. Online marketing is a gold mine for your business if you know how to do it the right way. Whatever business you own even if you are just thinking about a prototype to try an idea before leasing a building or a place for your business it all starts with marketing. I own a digital marketing agency and I help businesses grow. There is no pitch in this post my goal is to help 365 businesses in 2018 therefore I'm giving a free audit for your business to evaluate every single thing online to make you more profit and generate more revenue for your business. Message me if you are interested and I will show you exactly how we took a diner from almost closing to 2x their monthly revenue and taking their Facebook page from zero to 11k in the matter of months. Again it's completely free I will share with you all the micro targeting strategies that we used to create a massive audience and build 11k page from zero and all their fans are local. Also for the first 10 business owners that contact me I will give you a free Facebook ad campaign step by step video that me and my team created from scratch and you can ethically steal it and use it for your business. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. [link] [comments] |
How did you secure funding to start your small business? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 07:55 PM PST Want to start up a business but am entirely unsure about how to go about acquiring the funds necessary to launch said business. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 06:03 PM PST I a DisEnt SMLLC that has mainly sold things online until this point. We are wanting to do some more things locally through invoices. However, I hit a roadblock at the first go. The place is a nonprofit and for various reason, which are valid, I need to fill out a Form W9 for them. I do have an EIN for the LLC since it has employees, but based on the instructions, it looks as if I am supposed to put my personal SSN on the W9. I REALLY don't want to be in a spot where companies have my personal SSN for various reasons. How do you guys handle this? I tried asking in a few places, but always get hit with people going unresponsive just as it seems like I am getting closer to a solution. [link] [comments] |

Anyone have experience with PayJunction? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 05:13 PM PST I am considering a sales role with this company. The goal is to target small businesses and update their payment technology. My question for you folks: If you have used PayJunction or are currently using it, how does it compare with other services and are they responsive with customer service? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 04:55 PM PST Wife and I live in CA with no kids and rent. We are looking at starting an LLC together Most of the LLCs i know of are technically based in Delaware but reside in CA. Does anyone have any advice on the pros and cons of doing that? Anything else we should be considering? Resources out there to check out? Very new to this so any information will be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a Learning Management System(LMS) for professional services training, any suggestions? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 04:50 PM PST Our training is non existent and we turn over like 1-2 people a year and basically right now people sit in the office next to someone doing that job. We are looking for a system that tracks training records, creates walkthroughs, and preferably has small quizzes to prevent clickthroughs. [link] [comments] |
Question about "looking professional" as a small business owner. Posted: 25 Jan 2018 06:56 AM PST I'll be opening my own doors soon and I'm curious what everyone thinks about attire. It will be a small sign shop. I'll probably be doing sales, production, AND installs, so this varies my options of what I can wear. Sales people wear button ups, production people wear whatever, and install wears clothing that get dirty and can take a bit of a beating. When I look at other similar businesses in my area, I see a lot of just street clothes on employees and possibly a polo shirt with the company logo on owners. I like wearing t-shirts and hoodies, but how professional is a hoodie? I plan on putting my logo on the back, does that help? Are Dickies button ups a good compromise between sales and installer look? Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Starting A Company with my Wife. Would love feedback from you guys! Posted: 25 Jan 2018 07:46 AM PST Recently my wife started creating vegan lifestyle products and over the past few months we have attended various fairs, festivals, etc. The sales were encouraging enough that we decided to up the ante a little bit. A created a site through shopify (https://victoriasveganstuff.com/) and have uploaded a majority of the products we make ourselves. We also are using a t-shirt drop-shipper to allow us to have some product diversity. I have several questions for the community.
Thanks in advance for your time and feedback! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 04:09 PM PST I am helping a child care owner establish a emergency notification system. What are the best services or routes by which I can accomplish this? How do businesses typically bill monthly services that have usage? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 12:07 PM PST Hi everyone, Not sure if this is the best place for this but thought I'd check. I'll confirm with my accountant but wanted to get some feedback. We are a managed services provider, so we sell a monthly service to a customer on a contract. We work in telecom, and it seems like most telcos bill 1 month in advanced for services. We now do temporary services, so the customer only has a 1-3 month period they use it. The issue that I have is that for this particular service the customer MUST pay for minimum 1 month, not be pro-rated for part of a month. If I install a service with a customer on January 20th, and want their invoice date to be the 20th, would I then wait until February 20th to send them their first invoice and have it show January 20th - February 20th - $1200, and then have February 21st to March 19th for $1200 for the next month billing, making the first invoice $2400? That way the customer receives a large first bill for $2400? Or would I send them their first invoice within a few days of January 20th, for $1200 showing January 20th to February 19th? I just feel like it seems fast to be sending a customer an invoice, but with this particular service the customer will most likely only have it for 1-3 months as it's a temporary service. Would love any feedback on how others would do something like this. Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
How much "business income" insurance coverage is usually recommended? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 03:45 PM PST My retail store does about 500K per year in sales. When I started out 3 years ago it was about 150K. I just asked for an updated insurance quote and I went from $1,200 per year to $2,800 per year. I am opening a second location so I am well over $5,000 for both. Do retail business owners typically get coverage for a whole year in sales? The only time I see using this would be if the building burned down. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 03:19 PM PST I have a couple recurring clients on net-30 who are late paying every few months. I'd hate to lose them, but the late payments mean I'm paying employees for at least two months before I get paid. There's a 5% late fee written in the contract, but I'm hesitant to use it because it could add up to $500 to their bill. When do you charge late fees and are there certain clients where charging a lower fee or even taking a loan is preferable to rocking the boat? For one-time or smaller clients, I don't hesitate to add fees, but the loss of those contracts is minimal. Thanks for your help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 09:16 AM PST We had an absolutely terrible, uncoachable, toxic employee that we tried to improve for months until it was just no longer a viable option. Our state is an at-will employment state. We terminated her stating it was what was best for the company (no reasons given at our attorney's direction). Just got a call from the unemployment office asking several questions. I answered none and said I would call back with my attorney. I have a meeting setup with our attorney this afternoon. But what exactly can I expect out of this? I am finding varying answers online as to what can happen. Do we lose money out of this? Do we have to pay her a % of her wages for a particular duration? Could we end up in court? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 11:05 AM PST Hello again! I have posted a few times about my kayak rental business. Today I have a not so serious problem. We just had a brewery open up about 10 buildings down from our location. We are going to do a kayak and brewery tour combination. You kayak for one hour then you hop off the kayaks walk up to the brewery do a tour and get a flight of beer. You can purchase a few beers to take with you and then there is another one hour of kayaking to the finish. I just can't really figure out a good name for the trip. How to best ideas right now are "brews and cruise" and "brews and boats". But both of these sound kind of silly to me. Anyone else have an idea? [link] [comments] |

POS bundle using SQUARE for cash only business. Can I avoid the recurring monthly fee? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 09:38 AM PST Hi, I want to get a POS bundle for SQUARE to replace my cash register that just broke. Will I be able to get away with using the SQUARE software app on an iPad, and just conduct cash only transactions without paying SQUARE a monthly fee? I would link to the POS bundle on Amazon but I don't want my post to get filtered as spam. [link] [comments] |
