Usually these apps are for beginning investors. They advertise using spare change to learn investing. I was curious to know if anyone has used these and what they think. Any recommendations on which ones are good? Acorn is one of the biggest I've heard of. Any help is appreciated!

Buying vanguard index funds on etrade?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 08:28 AM PST

I currently have most of my individual stocks in an etrade account, and Roth IRA + some taxable index fund investments in a vanguard account.

I would really like to consolidate my taxable accounts into etrade, is it a bad idea to buy vanguard index funds such as VTI inside etrade? Is there a much of a ddifference between buying VTI on vanguard is VTI on etrade?

My ROTH will stay on vanguard.

[Discussion] Senate Republicans have the votes to pass their tax plan - What does this mean for stock/business/debt?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:17 AM PST

    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/01/senate-republicans-appear-confident-they-have-the-votes-to-pass-tax-bill.html

Assuming that this will help save money, this will help grow businesses and economy. Paying the national debt will be hindered. But as long as the GDP grows, and debt to GDP ratio should remain stable. Should we expect continuous growth for the next year or two or a runaway inflation?

In what ways are mutual funds "better" than ETFs?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 09:19 AM PST

Everything I read on-line talks about the benefits of ETFs over mutual funds, but I've yet to see any real reason why mutual funds would be a better choice over a similar ETF, the one exception being you can buy fractions of shares of a mutual fund and you can't with an ETF. Am I missing anything or who would benefit from using a mutual fund over an ETF? Thank you for any info.

Stocks of the Behind-the-scenes type Companies

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 05:28 PM PST

I'm not sure what to call these companies, but they're usually under the radar as they don't generate any big news headlines, but their business is one that is used by many of the big players, such as the glass supplier (Corning?), security companies, etc..

One I own is Cooper Standard Holdings ($CPS).

They design and manufacture sealing, fuel and brake delivery, fluid transfer and anti-vibration systems for many of the automakers.

I've owned them since around IPO and its been one of my better performers.

Do you guys have any favorite stocks like this? It's tough to come up on these since there isn't much press.

How do I set an option to be purchased at a certain *stock* price, and not the option price?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:48 PM PST

And subsequently, how do I make it close at another? I don't care what the option price is, I just want a certain date and strike price to be purchased and sold at certain stock prices. And set it to buy as much as I'd be able to with a certain amount of money. Such as, buy as many (option?) shares as I can (at x strike price, expiring at x time) with $1000, or $500, when the stock price hits x dollars.

    Investing in an Index Fund

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:18 PM PST

What is the minimum amount of money i would need to begin investing in a vanguard index fund, and what sort of return numbers would i be looking at? I plan to invest the minimum as soon as i have it and slowly build it up as i earn more, i probably earn about 2500 a month currently before expenses. I am just finished college and really want to be comfortable with money by my 30s

Thinking of taking profits in several stocks. Any suggestions of where I can park those profits?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:42 AM PST

I plan on selling certain stocks that have enjoyed appreciable gains. If so, I'd like to put the money in a stable asset class, in case of a market downturn.
