How do you find companies to invest in?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 01:08 AM PST

I'm curious how you go about finding the companies you will end up buying (or not buying) stocks from? I'm new to buying individual stocks and I'm finding it hard to actually find anything to invest in because I don't know where to look (except the obvious big name companies).

The European Union ****ing it up for everyone atm

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 05:12 AM PST

So I got an email from my broker this Friday (just read it today) talking about a new regulation in the EU called MiFiD II.

The premise is that all stock products (ETFs, Stocks, whatever) should be available in the language of the user buying the product otherwise it is deemed as 'not clear enough' for an individual living in the EU to buy while knowing the risks.

This means I can no longer buy SPY or HMMJ until they release Dutch documentation for their product.

Honestly this feels a bit fucked because I was really looking forward to keep pumping money into those two. I can't wrap my head around why they thought this was a good idea.

Are financial condition too easy right now? Is this bearish for the stock market?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 12:39 PM PST

Just looking at Goldman's Financial Conditions Index, you'd think that things are "too easy" (which is usually the prelude to a big correction or bear market.

But if you break down the index, you'll realize that things aren't bearish at all.

    $AGEN Due Diligence

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 03:40 PM PST

Disclaimer: My knowledge is medicine thus my DD is also more medical based. One of the posts on the sub's front page kind of spurred me write this out so this doesn't have everything you guys would want but it does have what I consider important.

AGEN is currently on the downtrend and will likely hit its 52 week low soon. But that's because of no news until 1Q of 2018 as the last CC stated. But here is why I am super Bullish on AGEN for 2018:

    1. AGEN has a QS-21 adjuvant that's FDA proven. Its is marketed inside GSK's Shingrix vaccine for shingles (a vaccine that was approved by the CDC as the primary form of action against the disease with a <90% efficacy rate). Shingrix will be going in front of the AUS, JPN, EU, India and China federal boards and will be getting global revenue as well. Agen will get 2% of potential $1 billion drug. QS-21 is also going to have a read out in January with Bill Gates' malaria vaccine with trials being run by WHO with the best current preliminary results. QS-21 can also be used with other drugs for diseases such as HBV and HIV so future partnerships are likely.

    2. AGEN's CTLA-4, PD-1 and OX-40 have shown incredible promise. AGEN's CTLA-4 has higher binding rates than current market leader Yervoy (which is a billion dollar drug). PD-1 will compete with Merck's Keytruda a monster drug in its own right. OX-40 is partnered with Incyte who bought 10 million shares at $6 in February. Watch out for GITR as well because it showed complete tumor regression in 60% of the treated animals

    3. 10 potential readouts of their pipeline in 2018 including CTLA-4, PD-1, OX-40, TIGIT, LAG-3, GITR, Mosquirix etc. 5 of those are partnered by Incyte. Therefore at the very least 10 triggers + future partnership news in 2018.

    4. Formation of AgenTus, a subsidiary that will focus on CAR-T and TCR drug formation while also giving tax-free dividends to stockholders. Its headed by Bruno Lucidi, formerly of Indenix, whose companies have been acquired by Merck and Gilead for a combined 15 Billion.

    5. Institutional ownership at 45.8%, with average analyst price target at $11.

    6. Partnered with GSK, Merck and Incyte with milestone payments agreed. Definite chances of future partnerships with others and the same companies in 2018 as stated in the conference call.

Genuinely the only drug I'm iffy on is their Glioblastoma vaccine, Prophage. Glioblastoma is a tough disease and I don't expect great numbers there. But Prophage is partnered with the National Cancer Institute and if that longshot pans out the reward will be immense.

In short, this stock has huge potential. It has an impressive pipeline and revenue streams to boot. My conservative PT for AGEN by this time next year is $9. Which at current prices is almost 3X growth. Of course please do your own DD as well. I believe that the current price will yo-yo between 3.2-3.6 until the news hits which should be 1Q 2018.

How should I approach this stock?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 08:33 AM PST

So there's this company that I really like called Altium Ltd. They specialize in PCB circuit boards, it's a 1 billion dollar market cap and they have had great EPS and Revenue growth along with good cash flow and no debt. Sounds great so far right?

Well my problem is I notice is it extremely thinly traded. It's an OTC that is traded on the Australian market, but they're OTC ticker symbol ALMFF only has 1.6K as their average 10 day volume. That's a bit of a problem considering I could buy that much in a day if I wanted to. Should I just avoid this based on the low liquidity? I'd really like to invest in it, but I'm worried about the volume and when it comes time to sell down the line

Securities Lending - Good or bad?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 07:29 AM PST

Context:- I am a student, and with my savings have been investing regularly in securities. I hold a portion of my portfolio in REITS, (valuing at around 30% of my portfolio), and I get around 6%pa in terms of dividends. The REITS trade at a low volume (200k-400k per day) I hold around 7,000 lots in each of the REITS.

My broker has a Securities Lending service, which gives me 4%pa on a per day basis if I participate in Securities lending (they charge 8%, require collateral upfront, I have the right to recall my securities anytime and still be entitled to economic benefits(divd, rights issue etc). Is this advisable given my current situation? I intend to hold these securities for a long haul as they are, imo, good dividend and growth plays.

Roth IRA- What do you do?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 06:58 AM PST

I am a complete noob sorry if this is a dumb question. I've moved some of the money in my Roth IRA to VOOG. Should I actively monitor this like I would my normal stocks by watching charts and selling at or near resistance and buying at or near support? Or should I just not touch it?

BSTI (Best Inc) - Risky Play with high upside

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 10:56 PM PST

Completely ignored a month after IPO, this stock looks like it's near a bottom and will reverse course in early 2018.

    http://www.barrons.com/quote/stock/us/xnys/bsti/research-ratings

Low (Conservative) Analyst Estimate for EoY 2018: $12.80

    (Current Price $8.95)

    http://www.barrons.com/quote/stock/us/xnys/bsti/financials

Net income still negative, but very close to positive territory.

Net operating cash flow positive upward trend past 5 quarters.

Other relevant metrics like short-term debt/total assets are reasonably good.

Free Cash Flow is decreasing, but I assume that's because it's going toward "purchase of investments."

If I had to pick one speculative winning stock for 2018, it would be this one. (Marijuana stocks are already way above intrinsic value as of last week)

But of course, expect major volatility - not for the faint of heart!

Is the great bear market of 2018 coming?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 10:53 AM PST

The stock market can't just keep continuous growth forever and eventually will have a drop of 20%+... Are any of you expecting that to happen this next year?
