(NY) Employer rescinded my open enrollment changes after open enrollment ended Posted: 29 Dec 2017 05:26 PM PST Posted in legal advice but they suggested I try here as well... Our open enrollment was in the beginning of October. They sent out lots of notices and I made my selections. Added health insurance, vision and dental. I had previously been out from a Health Leave of Absence (unpaid) and there was an error on my end that caused them to cancel my insurance effective 11/2. That was fixed as soon as I became aware. Well on 11/14 a representative went in and rescinded my open enrollment changes. It's all done through an electronic site. They never emailed, called or mailed to tell me these changes were being made. There was an "activity" for me to redo the open enrollment in the system but I didn't know. My HR person was out of the office today, when I realized my benefits were going to be effective next year. So I'll be meeting with them next week. I just don't understand how if I completed everything during open enrollment they can go back and make changes after open enrollment is closed. Any advice for my HR meeting? Or am I just screwed [link] [comments] |
Question about uninsured motorist coverage Posted: 29 Dec 2017 05:40 PM PST So my 17 yr old sister got into a car accident (her fault) while driving with a drivers permit. She was not cited by the police officer and she is not covered under our insurance. She was driving with 2 underage, unlicensed minors as well. The woman she hit had to go to the hospital for minor injuries. If that woman has uninsured motorist coverage and they cover her expenses, will that insurance company in return sue us for the money they paid out? If yes or no, what does it depend on? Edit: I would like to add that we did not give her permission to drive the car. She has never done something like this before. She is a straight A student who made a very stupid mistake thinking she can make a quick drive to get sandwiches with friends. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Dec 2017 11:58 AM PST Hi guys! New to this subreddit so I apologize for any errors. This is probably a stupid question, but I need some help. So the background is that I drive a car that is registered under my stepdad's name in Texas with Texas plates. I moved to Colorado with the car in February, and as soon as I got here it broke down on me. I canceled my car insurance since I wasn't going to be driving it, but I finally got all the repairs done this last week and am looking to renew insurance. So my question is should I get insurance coverage based on Texas liability/limit guidelines since that's where it is registered or do I do it based on Colorado laws? My dad does not want to transfer the title into my name for whatever reason, but I do have a Colorado license if that helps. Any help is appreciated! Thank you! [link] [comments] |

UHC Denied Hospital Claims for Surgery Posted: 29 Dec 2017 06:03 PM PST Hi there - my daughter had a open bladder surgery with Texas Childrens Hospital in May of 2017 and UHC denied the hospital that she should have staid the night (which is ridiculous but I do believe its a coding issue), anyways UHC told us in no way do we owe anything. So today we received a new bill from the hospital, they rebilled UHC correctly and sent us a new bill and we owe even more now which is frustrating months and months later. We have already paid over $3k (I haven't tallied all the costs because there are bills from everyone and their dog that was in the OR). I plan to call UHC in the AM but is this normal? The items listed in the new bill we already paid in previous bills, the only items in question from before were the room and board, but other stuff we have paid on before are listed again (anesthesia, pharmacy etc..) In addition, I also got a bill last month for this kids birth (2.5 years ago) for added crap....I paid it but why the heck cant these things all be up front? There is also no accounting of what or where just oops you still owe this and we never billed. How can I be satisfied that's the case? I don't even have my bills from 2.5 years ago anymore I don't think. Maybe I do but for $40 I just paid it. [link] [comments] |
Girlfriend hit by Drunk Driver, same Insurance Posted: 29 Dec 2017 11:00 AM PST So we're in Florida. My girlfriend's brother was driving her home one night last weekend in her car and got side swiped at an intersection when a drunk driver ran a red light. The other driver was arrested for a DUI, but being shaken up and all, nobody could say for certain if they had a green light. I'm under the assumption that DUI means 100% at fault and that's what her insurance claims representative told her. However after the rep told her that, and that this same rep was taking the other case for the drunk driver, the payout for her totalled car didn't change from the amount covered by her policy. This amount is only half of the car's value once they take out the money owed on the car and her $1000 deductible, which I thought would be waived given the circumstances. I'm concerned that she isn't being treated fairly by this insurance company and that there should be an additional payout from the other driver's policy. Any advice would be appreciated. Picking homeowner's insurance in N.C. Posted: 29 Dec 2017 08:15 AM PST I'm buying my first house and it's time to pick my homeowner's insurance. I have USAA for my auto insurance and always was under the impression that they were the best, no questions asked. I then I got a letter in the mail soliciting the builder's insurance company - and the quote ($30/mo) was more than half of what USAA's was ($80/mo). I then compared some numbers between the two, and USAA's insurance actually covered less (i.e. dwelling 162k vs 108k). I also looked at StateFarm and they were in the same ballpark as the builder's company. It is a townhouse and the purchase price is 240k. I'd say it's above average for the area in terms of the inside. I'm told the HOA covers the roof and exterior shingles, etc, but I'd like to get insurance just incase they don't. Is there something that I'm missing that USAA is worth twice the price of another company? I am all about spending money for what I'm getting, just double seems far off. Any suggestions on who else to get a quote from? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Wife's grampa hit by car day before Christmas. Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:24 PM PST This has been a really tough Christmas for my family. My kids great grampa, my wife's grampa was hit and killed in front of his apartment on the 23rd. He was j walking taking a shortcut with his walker. Very sad for all involved. Because this was deemed his fault, at least so far, is there any insurance claim that could be made? We are in Canada and deal with ICBC.This has been a really tough Christmas for my family. About Sharp monthly premium payment Posted: 29 Dec 2017 11:24 AM PST So here is the situation... I just finished my covered CA online appl and started doing an online one-time payment with Sharp. How can I negotiate the best price after total loss of vehicle? (ON, Canada) Posted: 29 Dec 2017 11:13 AM PST Hello, Long story short, I was in a bad car accident earlier this month in my brand new Honda CRV. It was a day over a month old. My insurance company is insisting I turned down the waiver of depreciation, which I don't recall even being told about but that's not necessarily related to my question at this point. I've asked them to provide a transcript of the call to verify this. They will not let me hear the recorded call and say I would need a lawyer to get it, the guy on the phone strongly advised against it and said it would cost me too much in the long run. My question is: what is the best way to negotiate a fair price for my vehicle and how should I best advocate for myself in this situation? My car dealership has actually offered to help me as well, but this is the first accident I've been in and i have no idea how to proceed. I haven't even been provided with a price, but I'm wanting to prepare for the worst. Should I have my paperwork for the sale and what it was worth to cite numbers? Should I continue to stress that the waiver of depreciation was not offered/not adequately explained in order for me to make an informed decision? Any advice is appreciated here. [link] [comments] |

Does Life insurance really pay out? Posted: 29 Dec 2017 01:05 AM PST I don't know much about life insurance and when I've met with sales agents they were more focused on selling that helping me understand what I've been researching. If a person gets life insurance for lets say $500k does the insurance company cut hte family the entire $500k check or do they hassell and nickel and dime them and make them go through unnecessary hoops for the payout? I don't know of anyone who has gotten a large amount of money as a life insurance payout it. It's usually a coupe of grand after the funeral is covered but nothing to pass down to generations that follow. [link] [comments] |
Selling my endowment plan: what are some unforseen disadvantages for me (original policy holder)? Posted: 29 Dec 2017 05:05 AM PST I'm considering to surrender my endowment plan but just learnt that there are third party companies who could buy over the endowment plan. I understand that I would sign a deed of assignment over to the company and they get all the benefits and liabilities of the policy. I have one question about the death benefits. I'm worried that on my death, the buyer (third party company) will harass my family with regards to my death for claims. Is this a legitimate concern? Other than losing the intended protection/benefits/bonuses from the policy, what are other disadvantages for a person selling their own endowment policy? [link] [comments] |
Disclosing preexisting car damage Posted: 29 Dec 2017 12:07 AM PST I , my car, was hit by a 74 years. I was parked, he was backing out at approximately 15 mph. Hit my car a took off. A Good Samaritan chased him down the road and brought it back. Police was called but did not show up. The guy was most likely under influence of medications. He was never apologitic in any way not embarrassed- I am 30 years old and I was shook of how he reacted. I demanded his insurance info and he gave them to me. Then left. He did not even bother looking at the car damage. I called his insurance and started a claim. A few days later, they called me and they accepted liability and agreed to fix the car. They suggested I take the car to one of their direct repair shops and drop it there. I did. My car was in an accident just two weeks before the current accident. I fixed the damage myself by attaching the bumper and realigning the fender. Obviously the recent accident made the damage way worse that I had to get out the passenger door. I mentioned to them over the phone twice that the car had preexisitng damage and they did not seem to care and they said it is up to the adjuster to determine the damage from this accident. I wanted to do this the right way so I felt I need to put this in writing in which I did and detailed exactly what I fixed and what is caused by him. A few days after I dropped off my car at the repair shop, I got a call that they are recommending my car to be totaled. I asked if an adjuster looked at the car, they said no and it was based on what the repair shop has recommended. They then said a damage adjuster will be sent to the car repair shop to make a final determination. I asked I be there but heard nothing for a several days now. I wanted to be upfront with them about the damage and I wanted to be fair to the guy who hit and run- although he does not deserve it. Have I done the right thing? What are the implications of disclosing preexisting damage? If they come back and deny my claim, I am moving to small claims- they unlikely will deny it as they just confirmed they are 100% responsible. The other guy did not report any damage to his car yet.
