Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:36 PM PST I started with about $5,000 in cash. I was able to bring on two good customers really quickly from my last job and I started selling. I've paid myself every month comparatively to what I was making before to basically keep my lifestyle and stay out of personal debt. Today I closed my books with roughly: $10k in cash I'm owed: $900 out 61-90 days (way to go state of SC) $7k out 31-60 days $21k out 1-30 days I owe $6k in the next 30 days, and have $6k on the business credit card. The pipeline is growing. I'm sitting in my office with my accounting software on one screen and Reddit on the other and I have tears rolling down my face. I did this. No one else. Part of me wants to take December off. The other part of me can't wait to get to work on Monday. [link] [comments] |

It's been a crazy Holiday season for us, and Ill respond when i get the chance. [link] [comments] |

Looking for creative ideas to place high-traffic fliers Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:34 PM PST Hi all! Doing a round of flier placement today and I'm looking for creative ideas about the best places to put up my stuff! I run a tutoring business and my target demographic is parents, primarily women, in the 35-55 year range. Already planning on hitting the coffee shops & book stores. Any other classic areas to take a look at? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:57 AM PST So, I have a blog with about 40 posts currently, most of them about iOS and Android app development. I get roughly 6K visitors per month with an Alexa rank of 900,000. I've not monetised it at all, but I'm planning to. I have doubts about how this type of websites can ever make any money. I mean, there's nothing to sell or review, and it's unlikely that programming tutorial posts go viral. Is it worth adding ads and putting in more time to write more tutorials. Can this grow to be something big? Or should I move on to other more monetizable ideas? [link] [comments] |
Are you running your own payments or did you go with a 3rd-party provider? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 12:06 PM PST When I first started hacking together online businesses, I was always skeptical and worried about the payment aspect of it. Nowadays, that is no longer a concern due to services like Stripe and Braintree. I came across this article about platforms building their own payment infrastructure and it got me thinking, how many of you actually do your payments in house vs. outsourcing to companies like Stripe, Braintree or even Paysafe (author of the article). Article on DIY Payments: https://www.forbes.com/sites/paysafe/2017/12/01/why-diy-payments-arent-the-right-route-for-your-platform-businesses/#4c5b4d8b6d46 [link] [comments] |
Suggestions for bookingkeeping/invoicing solutions Posted: 01 Dec 2017 11:29 AM PST Up to this point, I've been having my freelance clients send me checks in the mail. While this has the benefit of avoiding payment fees, it's becoming an increasing hassle to keep track of - I have to wait for the check in the mail, record that it's been received so I can start working, remind clients if the check doesn't arrive, and keep track of everything for tax time. I'd like to move to an online solution where I can send an invoice to a client, they pay online, and it's all tracked for me. I'd also like to be able to set up automatic recurring billing, so if a client agrees to pay me $X every month for ongoing services, I can set that up once and not need to touch it or monitor it again. What is my best option for this? I've looked at Quickbooks, but I don't think they offer recurring payments. Freshbooks does have recurring payments, but they also allow a limited number of clients. Wave has recurring payments and it's free, but they charge for bank transfers. And maybe I don't even need a bookkeeping solution, but I could just sign up for some kind of invoicing or payment processing solution. I'm open to all suggestions or ideas, or for folks to share their own experiences. Thanks! tl;dr: What is the easiest way to invoice clients so they can pay online, everything is tracked to make bookkeeping easy, and so I can set up automated recurring invoices? [link] [comments] |

Need to ask for your opinion on hotel / restaurant checking business. Posted: 01 Dec 2017 11:03 AM PST Hey there! I am a loooong time lurker in /r/Entrepreneur and already running a small business. But...there´s something more back in my head all the time. I just want to ask the people in here if this kind of service (which is not new on the market) could be succesful. I started my training and education at a huge luxury hotel about 20 years ago with success. From that day I have worked at many, many hotels, restaurants and more from different categories. From ow budget motels up to 5 stars luxury mansions. From small bed and breakfast hotels up to fine cuisine residents. I have 2 decades of experience in housekeeping, restaurant, service, food and beverage, sales, reservations, check in...everything. With that background, I think about starting a service for hotels, catering and restaurants. Some kind of "mystery guests". So...imagine you´re running a hotel and you do not have the time to check your staff. Who could do that for you? My target would be the hotel management... I could check everything, because I know how it should work. No matter if you want to test the complaints management, stress tests, simple check in / check out, cuisine quality, tidiness...you name it, I check it. Housekeeping, Night Audits, Reservations, Service... What do you think? Provided that my website is 100% professional, showing absolutely everything the possible client needs to know. Provided that my price is absolutely at the market conditions. Provided that (thanks to mobile) I can deliver some top notch report including photos and everything´s detailed and listed. So my selling point would be a professional website and my experience of more than 20 years. My wife is also on the ship with the same amount of experience in hotel and restaurant. Also I am a part time nutritionist for three years so even if someone wants to check if his kitchen could handle vegan guests, meat lovers or people with allergies...I can do that! Wanna check if your house is child-friendly? No problem...I got my two kids in my car! If I start with calling 5 to 6 hotels I know (or even new ones) and provide them a free check to have them as a recommendation...do you think there´s a chance to get that business running? Or is the market full of similar businesses? Once the "check" or the stay at the hotel is over I could either immediately get in touch with my client and sit together, or I can forward him via email a detailed report. Thanks to iPad and mobile the whole reort could be done in a flash. Including pictures, check lists...everything. Maybe I should mention that I have worked and trained in germany. I am located in Berlin but would be able to travel all over europe. Looking forward to hear what you think abuot it! Thanks for reading and have a great weekend! [link] [comments] |
Failing at starting an affiliate site, don't know where to go from here. Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:54 AM PST I started an affiliate website too soon without doing much research to see if it was a profitable niche. When I first started it, I planned for it to be a general camping gear website. After more research, I found that camping gear wasn't a good niche to get into, and that I should have went more specific. I have changed my approach to focusing on items for family car camping, and I have found some low competition keywords for it. What I have done so far: A few posts on a specific product, some comparison articles, and some general posts. Total, I have 21 posts right now. I have been using google keyword tool to help find ideas for keywords to use, and focus my articles around a few keywords that fit together. It is hard for me to find many low competition keywords with high searches per month. I set up google search console. It is showing me under "position" that I have 43 queries in the range of 27-200+, with most being at the higher range. I am not sure if my writing just sucks, or if it is because my website doesn't have many posts yet. I really don't even have any idea of how google ranks pages other than "quality content that provides use to the reader." I am not sure if I should continue on my current path with this website, or if I should start a new website in a completely different niche. From doing what I have been doing, I have learned some, but not nearly as much as others in the past. I have learned that I need to research more before jumping into a niche, have clear ideas of what I want to offer the reader, and make sure my layout makes it easy for readers to navigate. I have also learned a lot about how wordpress works and it won't take me nearly as long to set up any future websites I may start. I spent a lot of hours just trying to figure out the best layout for what I was hoping for. Any advice or suggestions welcome. [link] [comments] |
What goal are you willing to struggle for? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:20 PM PST I ask this because all humans enjoy pleasurable experiences, but pleserable moments & experiences by themselves do not determine how far you are going to get. When you agree to struggle through uncomfortable times in order to help you get to your goal, that's when you will truly know you are on the path to succeed. To build the body you want, you need to love the struggles and pain of working out & eating clean. To build the business you want, you need to love the uncomfortable emotions of getting rejected, taking risks, failing etc. If you are not willing to struggle through these uncomfortable times, than maybe your goal is not actually a goal of yours but just a fantasy... So what are you willing to struggle for ? [link] [comments] |

Free marketing techniques, what are some free things I can do to drive traffic? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 07:08 AM PST Site is launched, budget is well below zero. What can I do to drive traffic to my ecommerce store that won't cost anything except my time. I was thinking I could look for potential customers on Twitter and tweet directly to them - ie if someone tweets something like "I sure could use a new 'x' " I could reply to them with a discount code to my site. What do you think? Any ideas? [link] [comments] |

Feedback on an interesting idea we could all use to get funding for our businesses? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:54 AM PST Hey peeps! I was thinking about creative ways some of the folks here could turn their ideas into an actual business and wanted to run an idea I had by the /r/Entrepreneur community. Would any of ya'll be interested in doing something like they do over here at /r/millionairemakers? In my brain, it would work something like this... Every month we could open a thread where users can submit their idea/business plan, and how much money they'd need to fund that plan. Then we could vote on the best plan monthly, and some lucky winner would get to change their lives thanks to this awesome community! Also brainstorming here, but maybe the winner could document it somehow, or do an AMA, or something like that to keep users updated and provide valuable advice on the trials and tribulations of launching a new business. So whaddya think? Any obvious drawbacks I'm missing? Let's do a community "Pro's and Con's list". Pros: -- Winning this prize would force you to have a really solid business plan. You're probably not going to win unless you have something that a large community of your peers thinks will go somewhere. -- You'll get practice pitching to investors. It's not exactly the same, but selling yourself to group of internet strangers should be pretty great practice for selling yourself to angel investors, VC's, banks, etc. -- It can teach you how to evaluate other businesses. This would be helpful whether you need to look at your own business from "an investor's point of view", or you aspire to invest in other companies yourself one day. This could be an interesting way to learn on the cheap. -- It could give entrepreneurs who frequent this sub a library of examples of how to start a business from scratch. -- It could help build a stronger sense of community here in /r/Entrepreneur since we'll be helping someone build something together. -- It could help inspire others interested in starting their journey. -- It would be 100% voluntary. $1, $2, $3,.. whatever. That's 20 mins to an hour's worth of work a month for most of us. Most of us spend that on crap we don't need anyway. -- It could net you fantastic Karma. That's a great long-term investment if you believe in that sort of thing. Anyways... what do you think? Throw out some "Con's" so we can see whether the "Pro's" outweigh them, and possibly solve those Con's so we could get this thing up and running! ** Edit - Changed all kinds of stuff since I probably didn't present it well the first time. Also added in some new Pro's I didn't add the first time. [link] [comments] |

host client websites - good or bad idea? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:40 AM PST Hey, I hope it's okay to ask here. I am running a business which is basically me creating websites for my clients. So far clients chose their own hosting platform and I just set everything up. Done. But what if I host all the websites of future clients on a host where I take the costs (5-10$ a month). Like that I can offer easy support and clients save hosting costs. This way i could probably increase the pay but I am not sure if it's a good idea. Maybe someone with a similiar business can give me some advice? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:28 AM PST I've built something that should seemingly be monetized. It is in the realm of realtime financial market updates. The simplest form of distribution that I can imagine at the moment is/are automated (image) updates on a private Twitter account (tweets). But I don't know where to start from a business or legal perspective. Anybody have any experience with this? Any information would be greatly appreciated in any capacity. Thank you. Anyone interested on trying my bitcoin service and providing feedback on what to improve? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:23 AM PST The idea is that you offer Bitcoin as an incentive when you are looking for something that you can't find on your own. Quick example: Find an item (i.e. a dress ) that you saw on a magazine, website, Pinterest or Instagram and you don't know where to buy it online. You can upload it as photo using your smartphone and ask the members to search it online for you in order to win the bitcoin reward. When you register a Bitcoin wallet address is generated in your account where you transfer funds to be able post an inquiry. YouTube video showing how it works. If you want to register and try it out, just pm the username. [link] [comments] |
Potential laws regarding reselling clothing? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:18 AM PST For this example, pretend i'm opening a thrift store. What I want to do is buy some Nike shirts, patch my store logo onto the shirt (possibly over the Nike logo), then put it out on the shelf for anyone to buy. Say I did this with every shirt I sold. Do you know of any laws that say I cannot do this? The customers would be well aware it was just a Nike shirt with my logo on top, btw. Thank you for your help and support! [link] [comments] |
We are all crazy and that's a great value. Posted: 01 Dec 2017 09:57 AM PST As an entrepreneur, I am always looking for new ideas that can bring some value to other people lives. People always tell me that I am crazy and that I should work hard to "earn" my financial stability. I don't want stability, I want to get out there and change the bad things of this world. But I realized that all of us are crazy and that is what makes you stand out. If you are an entrepreneur you must think out of the box, don't think like everyone else. Craziness is what makes you smile, have fun, invent, innovate, share, try new things and meet other people. This value is what makes you create unique ideas. I am a father with 4 kids with debts and lots of responsibilities but that can't stop me from doing what I love and to be crazy, be myself. So there is no excuse, be yourself and do all that crazy ideas to improve your community, your family and yourself. If someone tells you that you are crazy then is probably that is a good idea ;) [link] [comments] |
Need some advice on what to study Posted: 01 Dec 2017 09:47 AM PST Hello guys, I'm from Chile, so forgive if my English is not very good, but I like searching all I want in English, there is so much more information, I don't find what I want in Spanish Well the thing is, I want to make money, learn all the things I need, with my father we have a lodging business, we are making a decent amount of money, but I have some much more ideas for the future, I want more knowledge and I'm gaining from reading books, learning from people who are successful, and if you guys have some suggestions of some books or people I should really check out feel free to suggest And the doubt I have, what should I study here in Chile that can help me towards my goal of becoming a successful entrepreneur. I'm between two careers, which I can study free, because the State gave me free superior education, Ingeniero Informático - which in US would be Computer Engineering, or Ingeniero Industrial - which would be Industrial Engineering, I have been leaning towards Computer Engineering because I would learn how to program, and today that's like very important, but Industrial Engineering its pretty good too, I can't seem to make a solid choice, so that's why I'm asking for superior advice, so I can be sure [link] [comments] |
General Parnership Labor Law Compliance Request Form Question Posted: 01 Dec 2017 09:43 AM PST Hello All! My business partner and I just registered our online e commerce company with all necessary federal regulatory establishments and we just received a letter in the mail stating that we need to pay $84 and post a labor law poster in our workplace. The problem here is that we do not have any employees, nor plan to have any, and are working out of the office in my home. My question is, do we need to pay this fee even though we do not have employees and do not plan to have any? Are we okay if we just ignore the letter? Thanks again! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2017 08:40 AM PST So I started a business recently and I'm doing better than I thought but I made a huge mistake. I branded myself as local and too personal so I decided to start over. I found a great name (not into self promo on reddit) but now the domain is taken and after calling the guy he isn't interesting in selling. So it seems like my only option is .co, .us.com, .net, .ca,.io or some other odd combo. So should I change the name to fit an available .com or just change the ending. [link] [comments] |
