Posted: 30 Nov 2017 09:17 AM PST Hi guys, What do you think about the coming AI boom and is there any valid companies out or isi it just hype? Just asking since I'm convinced that AI is the future but I'm not convinced that there is any solid or even potentially solid firms. Though it depends how's behind the firm. [link] [comments] |
deal nearing for CVS to buy AET for $66 billion in cash/stock Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:06 AM PST This prices AET between 200 to 205, it's currently trading around 181 after a spike to 192. All major news sources citing WSJ. A deal could be announced by Monday. I didn't buy a lot (some shares) because this could be a rumor. Edit: Deal was announced first on 10/26 when AET was 160 & closed 178. The only difference today is that WSJ wrote an article on it and stating the deal will probably be announced by Monday. Am I missing anything? Why invest in Tencent $TCEHY over Naspers $NPSNY?? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:42 PM PST Plenty of articles out there explaining that the stake Naspers has in Tencent is worth more than the entire market cap of Naspers. They have dozens of other holdings all over the world. Most of these currently have negative earnings, but you basically get them for free, and they all supposedly have potential value. If I want to invest $x USD in TCEHY for 10+ years, why wouldn't I just invest that same $x USD in NPSNY and own a larger stake in Tencent, plus dozens of other emerging market plays for free? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 06:50 AM PST Look at $XRT. Its jumped since Thanksgiving. The last earnings for retail stocks have been 90% excellent. Years of re-organization and efforts to stay afloat for the retailers that wanted to survive has finally paid off. The economy is doing a lot better and consumers are buying again. Check out $KR and $FIVE for today's picks. [link] [comments] |
Regenerative Medicine: the next big thing? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:41 AM PST You've seen all the front page posts about balding cures and the works, and we've seen CRISPR technology being talked about for over a year now. RepliCel (RPCF//RP.V) is a Canadian company at the forefront of this. Thoughts on them? Only 0.46 CAD right now. Worried: 0.46 is close to the lowest they have ever been. [link] [comments] |
Today we had a TECH correction... and I think these 3 things caused it Posted: 29 Nov 2017 06:21 PM PST So this is all my opinion obviously - no one knows exactly why the tech sector took a big poop today, but what we can do is analyze the market and figure out what could have caused this to better hedge (or diversify) ourselves for next time. If you don't want to read this wall of text that follows, you can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/j42b76Ugso8 1) Profit Taking - it's almost the end of the year, and stocks have had a great year thus far, especially tech stocks. Some like $NVDA are up about 100% on the year. Some like $MU are up even more than 100%. Going into the Holiday season, a lot of investors (especially the big boys) tend to take time off, travel, spend time with family and friends, etc - but they want to rest easy and thus start scaling out their positions. I'll admit it's a bit early for this, but if a few of the big players decided to sell today, it could have triggered a bunch of algos to sell as well, causing the big "panic sell" that happened which caused a lot of stocks to drop 5%, 10% or more. 2) Sector Rotation - this happens every once in a while. Back in June we had a day where tech had a big drop (similar to today), and we saw financials start to rally on big volume. A lot of investors (again, the big boys), took their money out of tech and put it into financials as there was a lot of good news surrounding banks at the time. I believe something similar happened today - if you look at the volume on the QQQ (nasdaq) and XLF (financials), you can see they both had a very heavy volume day. QQQ to the downside, and XLF to the upside - in fact XLF even gapped up at open and made new highs. But if you dig a bit deeper, you can see that there was a lot of bullish action in XLF and in tech (both QQQ and individual picks) for longer term calls - so this leads me to think that it was just a investors taking money from tech, and putting it into financials, and then when investors who focus on tech stocks saw this dip, they picked up huge call blocks on tech stocks as well (because fundamentally, nothing changed with any of the tech companies to justify this big of a drop). 3) Tax Reform Vote - this ties in with my previous point. Banks would benefit greatly from a tax reform, and the "big boys" threw a lot of money into financial stocks and XLF in preparation for this vote to be a success and have it pass. I think this, in combination with the 2nd and 1st point is most likely what happened today as we prepare for the big vote tomorrow. This was essentially the market pricing in tomorrow's decision in anticipation of it passing. But once again fundamentally, this doesn't really affect Tech stocks in particular (if anything, if the bill fails, it affects all stocks, so all sectors should have dropped today). I also found it funny how the DOW made new ATH today. All the more reason I believe this was just a temporary shakeout, and we will be back to ATH in the near future. For me personally, I went from about 90% cash, to about 5% cash, as there were too many opportunities to pass up on. I believe fundamentally we are still strong, and that this dip is temporary. But please do your own DD as well! Happy investing :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:08 PM PST In my opinion ARK has some of the most undervalued ETF's out there. For example, ARKW is +131% since listing of late 2014. Looking at their top holdings from each fund, they have some major holdings in Amazon, Netflix, Nvidia, Tesla, etc.. What I don't understand is how it's not $100+ yet along with the other ARK tickers. Am I missing something? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:24 AM PST I am in on overstock.com. They made a smart decision by tapping into the crypto industry, so I am excited for the future. However, the price drop per share for the past 6 days has me worried. 64 to 49 a share. Any explanation? As bitcoin hits an all time high this doesn't make sense to me. I have hope its just a dip and will rebound, but you never know. Every amount of info i find on cryptos is positive so I can't seem to decipher this code. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Fractional Share Ownership in Canada Posted: 30 Nov 2017 09:48 AM PST Is there any where online for Canadians to purchase fractional shares? I was originally looking at https://www.stockpile.com but found out it was for U.S. Residents only. [link] [comments] |

Thoughts of Frontier Communications? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:21 PM PST The stock is going up and they pay dividends quarterly. Thoughts in potential investing and reap the benefits? Though I don't understand how they could give dividends when they have had an awful year. Also with this whole net neutrality wouldn't they benefit? http://performance.morningstar.com/stock/performance-return.action?p=dividend_split_page&t=FTR http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/ftr/dividend-history Am I missing something? Just trying to get different people opinions. [link] [comments] |

Need Excel Spreadsheet to track stocks and dividents Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:18 PM PST I just started dividend investing and I want to keep up with what I am doing and would normally build a spreadsheet to do that but I thought I should ask first since I am guessing someone has already created a template so I don't need to reinvent the wheel. A Nasdaq bloodbath gone down to far to fast? Posted: 29 Nov 2017 07:16 PM PST TQQQ, the 3x-leverage ETF based on the Nasdaq 100 stocks (NDX), was down 5.4% today, a bloodbath that affected many of the bellwether Nasdaq stocks in the index. NVDA down 14 points, NFLX down 11, FB down 7, AMZN down 32, and so on. Pretty ugly day in the momentum bellwethers. There was a fake-out nudge to the upside Tuesday, but can't say today's slam down was unexpected. Posted this on my blog two days ago: "This could be tricky since long-term breadth continues to climb (up for the fourth day). Given that, if short-term breadth turns up here in the next day or two (or bless a bottom dollar, three days), the market would get another bullish boost. If long-term breadth turns down, this could very easily become the hook that catches every bull off guard. Although the bull market has so far defied the signs over and over again, it is inevitable that one of these times, like today, when the signals signal a turn, the turn will come. Probably when the bears are worn out and the bulls don't expect anything of on their blindside." If today's sell off continues, that will be relevant, but there are signs this is done already. Nearly every time TQQQ falls through a one or two standard deviation lines (see the chart in the link below on Screencast), the Nasdaq bounces the next day or two days out. It is as if any fall this far is too far too fast. And oftentimes in this bull market, the bounce becomes another rally. In fact, a look-black on the chart shows this last great upswing in the Nasdaq, which began in late September, started with a touch down on the green lines just like today. So I'm looking for the bounce, and looking to ride a rally if it develops here (Santa time?), and if it doesn't then the suggestion in the quote above might indeed be a sea change in the market. Thoughts on the new Google Finance design? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:08 PM PST I'm not liking it very much do far. Have to click into areas which were visible on one screen in the past. Feel free to recommend alternatives. Going to miss the stock screener. [link] [comments] |

Blizzard Stock- Potential Powerhouse? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:23 AM PST I don't really go on websites and read all that bs about what analysts "think" is going to happen, and so far I have been extremely successful at my investments (I was one of the lucky ones who got a little bit of NVIDIA back when it was only like $25 a share :) ) HOWEVER there is one exception. I invested in ATVI back when it was sitting at around $38-$40 a share, and after a bit of a stale period I (regretably) sold my shares and broke even. Since then ATVI has shot up to over $60 a share, and if it performs anything like Take Two has then it has the potential to cross the $100 threshold sometime in the near future, and I am considering making an investment towards them again, especially with the downturn of video game stocks this week. I believe this year's Call of Duty will sell well enough for the Christmas season (especially now that EA's Star Wars Battlefront is hated) that it will have a substantial impact on the stock of ATVI, in a very positive manner. Does anyone have similar or differing opinions on the matter? Would love to hear some advice! (I'm still a rookie) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:44 AM PST Is anyone looking at buying this dip(continues to fall)? Or are you not sold on these guy. There seemed to be tons of hype around them here and then they just got crushed after earning call. [link] [comments] |
