Morning Update for Monday, 1/31/22 Posted: 31 Jan 2022 06:17 AM PST Good morning everyone, hope you had a nice weekend. These posts are for informational purposes only. I am not a financial advisor. Main Watchlist: Gapping UP:
Gapping DOWN:
Momentum Watchlist:
Market Outlook: Stocks are looking at a somewhat mixed open to start the new week. The S&P 500 has dropped 7% in January so far, which would mark the worst month since March of 2020. The Nasdaq has dropped 12% in the same time frame, while the Dow has shed 4.4%. We should be getting more economic data this week, including the monthly jobs report. We're also looking at a busy earnings week, featuring mega-caps including GOOG, AMZN, and FB. Worth paying attention to AMD as well to see how they are faring with the chip shortage. With analysts projecting as many as seven interest rate hikes this year, supply chain concerns still ongoing, COVID still looming, potential war on the horizon, I'm still bearish at the moment and believe valuations could continue to come down. S&P Futures are down ~20 basis points, Dow Futures are down ~35 basis points, and Nasdaq Futures are up ~25 basis points. Gold and silver are trading a bit higher this morning, looking to continue their strength after pulling back the last week or so. Worth noting that volume has drastically picked up on these commodities over the past couple of months, I'm bullish, taking it as a sign of upwards movement coming in the future. Crude oil is continuing its recent strength, could see a push up towards the $90 level. Energy stocks are somewhat mixed in premarket, could be due for a pullback after the recent strength. Tech stocks are holding up pretty well compared to the overall market. Worth watching closely this week, with some of the mega-caps reporting earnings. Chinese stocks are seeing some strength in premarket trading, worth keeping an eye on today. Airlines are trading slightly lower in premarket, still hovering near support levels. The crypto market is down a bit this morning. If we see considerable weakness, we could be getting ready for another leg down. Bitcoin is currently trading around 37,300. If we can see a nice bounce in the next few days, we could move up towards the 40,000 resistance level. Ethereum is trading a bit over 2,500. Crypto-related stocks are mixed in premarket trading. Remember to use proper risk management; size appropriately for your account and have a plan for every trade you enter. Happy trading everyone :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Jan 2022 11:26 AM PST I bought a stock at a limit price of $0.02. I guess because I didn't say $0.020, it bought at $0.025. 30k shares at that price. Now I'm under $-116 in cash. My account isn't permitted margin. Will I be forced to sell at a loss? Will I be hit with an overdraft fee? Anyone know what will happen? Because I need to reach the character counter, I suppose I'll give a bit more info. I had enough money to cover commissions, it is the extra half cent per share that blew up my ~$600 order before commissions. I was buying off the Canadian losers of the day, I know, not the wisest idea, but that is what I did. Any advice? [link] [comments]
Is this a legitimate strategy??? Posted: 31 Jan 2022 10:45 AM PST Pardon my lack of knowledge on this topic, however I was scrolling through the "Top Losers" section on my watchlist and came across a few companies that were tanking 50%. Now, like I said, I don't have a lot of fundamental knowledge on the market and how it works. With that being said, is it an actual strategy to buy into companies that are down 40-60%, then hold for a few months/years until the price goes back up? I feel like there's always some gas or energy company that leads the list with a -50% to - 70% over the past 1-3 months. Obviously you'd be trading on pure speculation that the price is going to increase eventually but like... it has to... right? Unless it's like Kodak or something. [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Jan 2022 10:32 AM PST Hello! I want to buy stock on a market which my bank doesn't usually offer oportunity for trade, so my best bet will be to call in to their brokers to put an order, but the courtage is around $21. It much higher than anything I have ever seen before, that's for sure, but is it reasonable (I am planning on holding for a very long time)? Note that the stock I want to buy is also available on NYSE, which would not require me to pay such high courtage, but would be riskier. I don't have anything else to write, but apparently posts must contain more than 560 characters lkfsjaldfkasf [link] [comments]

Some interesting news in Barron’s over the weekend Posted: 31 Jan 2022 03:24 AM PST include Tesla's earnings beat followed by a 12% drop in the stock price. A bit harsh perhaps, but all too familiar at the moment. Why are we seeing such beats followed routinely by stock prices cratering? Barron's make an interesting point that the size of beat has fallen. In Q4 it has averaged 5% compared to Q3 9%, Q2 17% and Q1 21%. The trend is clear and does not bode well for 2022. A contributor to the letters section observes that there is "too much money chasing too few goods" which is perhaps contributing to the growing interest in cryptocurrencies. A phenomenon that I will continue to observe from the sidelines. Barron's suggests that Bitcoin might find support after its recent fall at the $30,000 level without providing much by way of explanation other than "A lot of investors would ... open their checkbooks at prices around $29,000". A more interesting support level seems to be $27,000, which Barron's says is generally the breakeven price for Bitcoin miners. In contrast, oil appears to face the opposite problem with too much money and the threat of war in the Ukraine sending prices higher. Barron's suggests that oil producers would be happy to allow the price to float between $80 and $100 but that prices over $100 may damage long-term demand and prompt an increase in production. Regarding stocks, a director at Oracle (Charles "Wick" Moorman) made a $1.3 million purchase of stock at $83.76 following a 25% drop. It follows a strong quarter reported in December with revenue up 6% and non GAAP earnings up 14% and was the director's largest purchase since March 2020 when he paid $1.4 million for 30,000 shares at $47.47. At Netflix the co-CEO Reed Hastings also bought $20 million of stock although that was probably less material in comparison to his $2 billion total holding. Bill Ackman's Pershing Square also loaded up about $1 billion of stock. However, Barron's don't seem to be impressed, even after the stock's recent 45% fall, citing concerns about subscriptions and margins that will not be easily rectified. Moderna on the other hand is apparently too cheap for a company that delivered 800 million doses of vaccine last year with a market cap of $65 billion and a cash balance that could rise to $27.4 billion this year. The stock has plummeted from $500 to $160 and there is no doubting that it faces a challenge to build its selling infrastructure and network to compete in a post-pandemic world. But that cash balance will help significantly and Moderna's work during the pandemic built relationships with buyers that will help long after. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jan 2022 06:50 PM PST If you're like me, you wake up and check the charts and news feeds on your favorite stocks daily. You leave you're preferred trading app open on your phone, Monday through Friday while driving to work. You feel excited to pull up the charts to see what the favorite stock/stocks are doing. I look at the week days as my weekends! ITS WHEN THE REAL FUN HAPPENS. I know lately we've been in a downward spiral it seems, but you know what...for someone like me, it gives me more buying power to buy more shares of my favorite stocks. I hedge my long positions by following my trading rules and indicators, mind you im about to hit my 1 year of trading on Feb 5th. I've learned so much and have made some real friendships with fellow traders, simply by comments on a post like this. I'm sure there's a ton of you out there that are just like me. Single income household, a housewife and a couple of kids. We do it for them, we do it for ourselves too. The American dream can be found in the markets. So for me, work is what happens on my weekends. Monday thru Friday during market hours is my real weekend. [link] [comments]

Thoughts about rebalancing for 2022 and to inject 10K lumpsum Posted: 31 Jan 2022 04:16 AM PST I'm holding a tech heavy portfolio and I have a strong conviction for all of my holdings. I'm planning to take advantage of the current correction and inject another 10K the coming month. I'm planning to trim little bit of ROKU and buy ASML. As far as the 10K distribution goes, 20% to NET, 20 % DOCN, 20% ASML, 10%DDOG, 10% SEA and 10% AMD and 10% NVDA. I understand Cloud, Tech, Clean Energy and E- Commerce pretty well. I also follow the trends in these verticals very closely ( I work in Cloud and IoT). I'm also open for new ideas if you have some suggestions. Let me know your thoughts on rebalancing and capital allocation. Snapshot :https://imgur.com/a/a7Pasdj [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2022 04:06 AM PST Which US stock market should an investor in Turkey invest in ETFs in the long run? I don't know if it has been asked before, but I couldn't find much information about this topic locally, so I want to ask you. I will be glad if you leave a comment. ETFs seem more attractive as an investment rather than buying individual stocks. It can be a tactic to buy by separating them as a total sector or to buy single stocks from company to company. In 5-10 years, I want to deposit a certain amount regularly every month without cashing it. long story short, I want to focus on one or two ETFs and drive the investment through them. Of course, the fact that it is a passively managed fund seems to be preferable. thanks. [link] [comments]
