Looking to make the first sale of my life Sales and Selling

Looking to make the first sale of my life

    Posted: 26 Jan 2022 02:48 AM PST

Let's make this clear. I have ZERO experience in sales and I'm looking to make my first sale.

How am I gonna do it? That's the question. I could start reading hundreds of books and study the theory, but we all know that experience is better than that.

So, here's my proposal. I will try to make you a sale for free. You will only provide me the leads and enjoy your sale. Is this stupid? Maybe, but it's worth a try.

If you're interested in helping a young folk starting his career in sales, dm me!

    Thank you all for reading

plus how hard are you worked and how hard is it to move up the ladder?

I imagine it's a good one for the c.v and future career prospects.

Anyone who has worked in a similar role please let me know, any details would be appreciated

    Thanks.

    BDR - AE issue

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 06:27 PM PST

    Hey guys,

Sr. BDR at a tech startup - currently supporting 3 AEs and have a greenfield territory. I've done good. I've been here for 6 months and have hit or exceeded quota every month. This month I'm 150%.

The problem is one of the AEs is taking on a few projects within the startup, doing graduate school outside and has their calendar completely private and filled up.

I addressed with them and they have put blocks in the calendar where I can invite them. Kinda annoying because it takes up half my calendar in blocks.

This is my biggest time constraint - booking meetings / working with their busy schedule so I handed two opportunities to the next available rep. They caught on and reprimanded me today - gave me tips on how to get prospects via cold call more times to meet (they have never been an SDR), requested me to go through them first which slows down my processes.

Basically I feel lesser when I speak to them. I handled properly and said my fumble / said I appreciated the insight. But I am curious what you would do in this situation.

And I am apprehensive to go to management because this person is poised to take over the sales department.

Overwhelmed, Stressed, Understaffed, Not sure what to do or how to do it = HELP

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:26 PM PST

Alright so, I'm a Service Advisor for a Dealership, very new to sales, this whole career in general. I'm legit 3 months in and have been thrown into the deep end to learn and get my bearings. 3.5 months I've been there and I have seen 3 other Advisors come and go... It's a very small difficult place to be successful but I try extremely hard. Seems no matter how hard I try, how many hours I work, it's never good enough. I have been told, I'm an extremely fast learner and that I am doing very well. I have out written each Advisor that has been there to this point. This month I have already written 100k+ and hoping to end with around 120k sold in total. I feel like I could be put out of a job and that I don't have enough experience to take it else where. I am new to this kind of money and it has truly made the difference to me and my family's living situation. Just not sure what to do. More so just venting, any advice or even conversation would be amazing. Thanks for reading...

    Software Resellers ?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2022 01:23 AM PST

Does anyone know who are the major software resellers around the world ? I mean major players who offer broad spectrum solutions portfolio but source the product from other vendors. Any info on regional players(Europe/US/Middle East) would also be helpful.

Here are a few I am familiar with:

    1. Redington
    2. Ingram Micro
    3. Sin Technica

    Night/weekend side gigs?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 06:28 PM PST

Since COVID I've kind of become a workaholic. Anyone done any sales-related side gigs after hours? I've heard calling insurance leads is an option.

How to get in front of a decision-maker?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 08:16 PM PST

Hi all! I am a first-time founder of a sales intelligence company.

We have a mature product that our existing users love and keep using regularly, but we are still learning how to convert those into paying customers. It takes us a long while to get in front of decision-makers from our champion (we start with one user, get them to refer others in their team once they start deriving value, and then finally ask them to connect us to the decision-maker).

This delay leads to lots of back-and-forths and extends the sales cycle quite a bit. I know it's a generic question, but are there any standard tips to make sure that we reach the decision-maker the quickest once the champion has gotten value from the product and likes it?

    Thanks!

Are there any successful sales people out there who also struggle(d) with mental health issues from childhood or a bad upbringing?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 11:22 PM PST

I've been in B2B sales for 10+ years and have always ran into a 'glass ceiling' caused by trauma that I had to endure as a child and into adulthood. This glass ceiling is the belief that I'm not worthy of wealth and success, or a supportive environment, so I always accept far less than I deserve out of a company and comp plan that I work for.

Long story short: both my parents were emotionally, physically, and mentally abusive (to me, my siblings, and each other). They were refugees from war and raised us while going through their own untreated PTSD.

Ironically I've been very successful in sales the whole time. I've never missed a yearly quota once since I started sales and yet I can't bring myself to apply for better paying jobs, or try to find companies with good culture. I struggle to ask for a raise or promotion and easily submit when I'm told no. Every company I've joined has been more or less a corporate version of the dysfunctional family dynamics that I grew up in.

I've been in therapy for 5+ years working on my trauma and it is helping for sure, but I was curious to know if there were any successful people/high earners here who maybe had their own challenging internal struggles on their way to success in sales? Do more of the really successful people just have a better upbringing?

Has anyone ever gone through this or a similar version in their own life? Are you currently in sales and struggling with something like this? How did you break through? Or how are you managing it if you're still in it?

I guess in a way I'm looking for hope. Have people like us made it in sales?

How to tell customer to F off when they are being unreasonable?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:51 PM PST

My customer ordered a product that we are bringing in from overseas. Because of the port congestion that's happening right now, she is really afraid that the shipment will be delayed. However, I have quoted her with some cushion time and currently everything has been on schedule. She also agreed to the ship date when she placed the order. I have been assuring her that nothing has changed so far and we don't foresee any delays. If anything changes we will let her know.

What really annoys me is that she insisted that we need to provide her with the shipping details, like which container is it and which vessel the container is on. Our term with her is we ship out of our local warehouse, so the container/ vessel information is internal. I believe she wants that information to track our internal process, like to see if we prioritize her shipment or if we took too long to move things forward. She sent emails every week to demand for the information we considered " none of her business ". I have turn her down nicely before but she doesn't seem to get the gesture. I understand she is worried about the shipment but If I do give her related information she just going to demand more and use it to micromanage me. I also tried to ignore her emails but she just send more or call more often. How do I tell her to fuck off?

    Uniform to SaaS?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 08:22 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I'm 35 with 10+ years of sales experience. Been at a big uniform company for 2 years now, going really well. Steady promotions, decent money, etc. I'm at a bit of a crossroads and wanted some input:

A local SaaS company is looking for a head of sales. Long story short, they're in the email marketing solutions space have been around for 20 years; did 1 mil last year, pacing for 2 mil revenue this year. The owner has handled all the sales, and he admitted he pretty much sucks at it. He's looking to grow rapidly, and once they hit the 5 mil mark either sell or keep pushing depending how things go.

    Here are the numbers:

70k base (mid-sized city in Southeast) 140k ote (first year) Equity in company (don't know percentage yet)

I'm currently making 45k base plus a 10k car package (they pay for my car, gas, and insurance) This past year I ended at 95k before car package (1st full year in territory)

    Where I'm getting hung up:

About to be promoted again and get a 60k base Will be able to close bigger deals than I have been(more commission/bonus obviously) Am on track to become sales manager in 18-24 months It's a large company with long-term stability

    HOWEVER

I really don't like what I sell, mostly due to the service issues that come on the back end. I'm not crazy about the hyper salesy culture. I can grin and bear it, but it definitely gets worse the higher you climb.

All that to say: I'm feeling like on one hand it'd be stupid to leave, but on the other it legitimately sounds exciting. I've built out a small business sales process/business plan before, and it was awesome (just wasn't compensated well there). I really don't want to screw up here, I'm good right now and have a path forward. But man, I sometimes get freaked out thinking about working at my current company for the rest of my career.

What are some of your thoughts/experiences?

Simple - what was your biggest commission?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 02:19 PM PST

As it's says in the title… how much was your biggest commission? I'm curious..

I work in SAAS as an AE… I remember when I started in sales 5 years ago, without any experience… I got a 3k commission in my second or third month. My mind was blown!

Just over a year ago I got 90k in one paycheck! I couldn't really comprehend it… but I know I can do better!

    Let's gooooooooo!

Further, do you know what those businesses cares about in terms of the service or GPU capability of the machines they're renting? For example, what kind of business would rent out a whole bare metal Nvidia A100 8x? Anyone have any knowledge?
