    Is this how auto-insurance works

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 01:26 AM PST

I can only afford the minimum coverage for auto-insurance which I believe is just-liability, so I have a few questions in wanting to gain a better understanding of my current situation.

If I get into an accident but it wasn't my fault, say, a car bumps into me from behind at a red light. It's the other driver's insurance that will cover the expenses needed to fix or replace my vehicle, correct?

    Also,

Say I'm at fault by hitting a car in front of me at a red light because I was on my phone. Then what? Since I have just liability, will I have to pay out of pocket for the expenses needed to fix the other vehicle? How exactly does this work.

Thank you for your time. I hope that this can be a concept I finally learn and lay rest on the shelves.

Switching to Amica. Should I choose dividend or non-dividend policies?

Should my insurance cover this and will my rates go up?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 07:29 AM PST

so I was driving on a two lane road and the driver in the right lane next to me almost merged into me causing me to have to swerve to the left to avoid a collision, however there happened to be a bunch of those flexible plastic poles which damaged my bumper and hood. should insurance cover this? would it have been better to let the other driver hit me? would this cause my rates to go up even though this was not my fault?

Art gallery damaged by water & smoke from building fire, still no access after a month.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 06:44 AM PST

Active federal (2 people died) and liability investigation has shut the building down for over a month now. I've watched water pouring out of my ground-floor gallery for 4 days straight because of the sprinklers and hoses from above and behind my space. I have not been able to get into my space for over a month now, and the building insurance and law firm has scheduled a "joint inspection" for mid February.

I want to be prepared for dealing with my insurance adjuster: What things should I be looking for? What questions should I be asking? What information should I provide to get proper valuation for the consigned art and business property?

One of my main concerns is properly evaluating the condition of the art on the walls and in storage. Even if an artwork was untouched by fire or water, it was certainly affected by smoke and the frigid temperatures we have had for the last month. Art galleries are temperature-controlled for a reason, and the adverse effects of extreme temperatures will likely show up at a later time. I heard it being referred to as "diminishing value".

    Anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks.

Confusion about when to file a claim, and how much actually gets paid. Noob questions.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 03:23 AM PST

I just finished reading through this post and I am a bit confused.

    1. For all of the below questions, should you act differently depending on filing the claim with your own insurance vs filing with your opponents' insurance?

    2. The poster waited almost a year before submitting everything as one giant claim. Is it not good to just keep on following up on a claim every time a problem comes up related to the original injury?

    3. The poster took all of this injuries and multiplied the cost by 1.5. I am confused.. Doesn't the insurance ask for proof of cost of injuries? Wouldn't they be able to see that you are asking for more?

[TX] What exactly is Accident Prevention Services for Policyholders?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 03:11 AM PST

Just curious ya'll. Got a mailer about Accident Prevention Services for Texas Policyholders. It is related to my self-employment insurance. It is from Chubb. Services are available at no charge and include general risk assessment and improvement surveys; specific loss problem identification; loss investigation and analysis, program development and training, etc.

Do I take them on their offer? Anything else I'm overlooking? Still don't know what's the point of all this.

    Car accident with ex coworker

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 02:21 AM PST

I got in an accident with an ex coworker early this morning after work. We're both strippers. We used to work together, we get along but we've never texted or hung out or anything, just work friends. I always look when I drive, I'm cautious as can be when it comes to driving because I got hit by an old drunk golfer once. No injuries but I realized how fast cars come out of nowhere when they're speeding. Anyways it was at the bank and I was parked pulling out and I looked before and during and saw no cars, then I felt my car hit something, I thought maybe it was a cardboard box. It was the tail end of her car. There's a scrape, like doesn't even need paint just needs to be buffed out. I was like holy shit I just hit someone and I realized it was her and I saw her and she looked drunk and I've worked with her and there's not one day where she doesn't end up absolutely wasted by the end of it. Love the girl but she can really drink. I immediately asked if she was sober, my other friend was also in a car at the bank so he saw everything and parked thinking the police were coming. She didn't know what to do and didn't know how insurance and accidents worked so I explained it to her. She still didn't understand (this is why I think she was definitely drunk beside the whole drunk what just happened stance with the wide eyes that aren't really looking anywhere). When I explained insurance and accident I told her how we can exchange insurance information and file reports and have a police officer come and put me at fault (this is before talking to my two friends who saw this happen, I assumed I was at fault because I didn't see the car I felt my car hit it, so I didn't see exactly what happened) or I could just pay her for it. She called her dad and he wanted me to cashapp her $250, she sent me her cashapp link and I was like alright I'll sent that to her and I was talking to my friend who was in my car and I'm like I can't believe that happened I feel like shit how did I not see her. She's like dude she's drunk and she literally sped behind you while you were pulling out. And I was like you saw what happened?!! My other friend in his car was expecting the cops to come so he could give them his side, he said the same thing too. He told me after I had already dropped her off home. So I texted the girl explaining that my friends said she sped behind me. Not like speed speed but like tried to go around me quickly while I was pulling out. She's now threatening to make a police report and I'm like okay, so I explain to you exactly how insurance works and you and your dad just want me to pay you but now my friends told me what actually happened (keep in mind my friend in the car is also friends with her, not like there's any bad energy between any of us) and now you're threatening me? I noticed it was her and I immediately asked if she was drunk because she looked how I've seen her after a long night of drinking and I know her sober and when I was explaining the insurance she couldn't understand it at all, I kept asking her what she wanted to do because I don't really know if she's drunk 100% or not she just looks drunk and can't understand all the way but also I've seen her wasted where she won't even realize you're talking to her. This is why I didn't want to make any decisions. What am I supposed to do now? Pay her for something I didn't cause or do I have to report this to insurance or police? I tried to do the right thing but also I don't want to get taken advantage of, and I've literally came home and gotten two lighters and pretended they were cars to try and figure out how it happened and the only way was for her to have sped behind me like my friends said.

Auto Coverage When Someone Else Driving

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 01:19 AM PST

Hi everyone, I'm new here so not sure if this is the right place to post. I was just in a car accident. My car was hit from an oncoming driver who lost control. However, I was not driving my girlfriend was. The other driver took off so not sure of their insurance situation. Will my comprehensive policy still cover damages? (I have Allstate in Illinois if that helps) thanks for any help on this.

I sold my boat to someone he wants to set up insurance but

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 11:38 PM PST

I recently sold my boat to someone. On my insurance document it says "Interested Parties: NOW FINANCE" which is a finance company I had a loan with for the boat.

When he goes to set up his insurance through the same business, will interested parties show NOW FINANCE as well on the document or will it show nothing?

    United Healthcare/Invisalign

I have annual spending limit of 1500$ for orthodontia. It doesn't specify on my app that it's for children up to 19, but on my work benefit sheet, it says orthodontia (dependents up to 19). Does this mean I can't use this on myself? I wanted to apply for invisalgin. Would insurance sometimes allow this to occur? How does this work? I've had medicaid my whole life and this is the first time I can consider this. Thank tou!

    [CA] Recommended auto coverages

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 10:15 PM PST

First time quoting for auto insurance.

Planning on getting full coverage, I will be driving a 2022 Mini JCW hatch after it arrives in port next month. I am located in Orange County, California.

What are recommended limits for BI/PD, and if medical payment or uninsured/underinsured BD is recommended? I currently have health insurance that is provided by my university (UC SHIP)

Also what are the major insurance companies I should quote from, I've heard firms like progressive have terrible services

    First car accident

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 10:03 PM PST

I got into a car accident, where I was at fault due to failure to yield right away on a left turn(Windshield foggy, fresh snow on roads). I was given a citation and fine, and I provided insurance coverage which is $100k with no deductable. My car is totalled, he said he was gonna collision repair shop his, and neither of us sustained any injuries. After dealing with the claim, will everything be fine?

    WWYD terrible sales coworker?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 10:02 PM PST

If anything I need to just get this off my mind but advice is appreciated. I am a producer for a captive company, there are 4 of us total. I came into this office with experience already from another office. One of these people I brought in a few months after I started there, and I trained her so she's not my problem. It's these other two.

I am very business and personal divided so this isn't anything where I just don't get along with them as people. They are god awful at their jobs. One of them I feel is more lack of drive than anything else, he has zero interest in advising on coverage. So he writes trash. The other one however…she is an E&O claim waiting to happen. For a year I've thought she's just flat out stupid, but now I think she plays dumb a lot of the time. She cares so much about price and price only. I've seen her write less coverage than what the customer had prior to us. I've seen her do anything to get a rate down. She will try to lower RC on home quotes to save them a whole $5/month. She also doesn't to this day still fully understand what she is selling. She has no ethics. What's funny is she used to work in claims for another company, so it blows my mind how much bad info she gives out.

What has me wanting to strangle her is she quotes something that I had notes on. Basically I had an opportunity opened with a pended out task, because our rate is way out of bounds due to their 11 points. This person called about their home rate going up, and it was because they lost the MLD when they moved their auto to USAA. She basically tried to claim she didn't know, and then said my boss told her to go for it. With her, she will ignore details. She royally fucked up a payment on a new customer I wrote because she can't take a moment to open her eyes or ask me about it. I told her I'll let this one go but she needs to check for pended out tasks showing that it's something I'm working. I only said that because I knew she wouldn't get the sale. She somehow got the quote right at $3200/6 months which is what they pay now. She had a driver added that isn't on there anymore, who is one of their daughters. She failed to confirm what age the other daughter on the policy got licensed, so it's missing a surcharge which changes the rate by about $1500/6 months. She didn't bother to check for a recalculation after she added the 3 tickets and 2 accidents so that alone raised it another $240/6 months.

I don't want her to royally fuck this up and make it impossible to ever get them back. But I'm also not wanting to help her because she doesn't care to respect any of us. I'm not the only person she's tried this with. I'm tired of being angry working around people like this. My boss is just too nice, unless I literally print off all the shit they do wrong and put it on his desk he has a hard time wrapping his head around it. Truthfully I've considered it. I already showed him how much they waste leads in a spreadsheet and he did address that. The only reason that stopped is because they are too lazy to take leads now. I manage the vendors and spending so that's why I look at this data.

Where I draw the line is people trying to fuck with my money by stealing things I work on. It's so draining working around them and I don't know if I should talk to my boss about it. For context, he almost treats me like an office manager. Hence why I oversee things like the leads. He just gave me a huge raise that I know is way more than what he pays them. He and I have had various conversations about issues with them but I don't know what else to say other than they are negligent and won't change. A lot of people say they would just ignore it but it is distracting to me, they stop me to ask the same stupid questions everyday. They don't just affect me, they affect the girl I trained also. They have had so many chances to get their act together, he's put out warnings. I'm going to end up losing my cool on this girl because her trying to take that sale has just pushed me over the edge.

Thanks for reading, any ideas on what I should do?

    Auto Insurance renewal

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 04:03 PM PST

Hey guys I can't find anything about this online. I got my car insurance in June and got a distracted driving ticket in July. I'm with intact insurance and was wondering what causes insurance companies to pull an mvr upon renewal. I've read that it's hit and miss but is there anything that would cause them to pull mine upon renewal or is it just completely random? 22 year old male I also live in Alberta if that matters. If any insurance agents can enlighten me that would be great. Thanks
