    Two weeks

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 06:31 AM PST

Just put in my two weeks, will they expect much from me, what do I say if someone gives me a 5 hour task at 4 pm that I definitely won't do? Senior is still pushing me to work full busy season hours.

    ADHD accountants

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 01:37 PM PST

Any accountants or accounting majors also living/dealing with ADHD? I'll be getting tested soon and if I do have it all I can say is it makes so much since.. high school was horrible for me but when I got into accounting it was a never ending amount of new things to learn that kept me interested and actually wanting to learn.

Easiest blow off classes to take for CPA exam?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 07:59 AM PST

I need 11 credit hours, 9 of which will be business. I'm looking for any easy blow off class for the last two credit hours at a local community college. Any ideas?

Right now, I have a course to learn Access for Business.

CPA + Data Science = a meaningful combination?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 07:49 AM PST

Is CPA & data science knowledge a potentially meaningful combination for a career in forensic accounting / Regtech? I am happy with my current job as a forensic accountant & I am looking for a part-time master degree that would be beneficial to my career. Is data science a good option? Any thoughts?

    Dear Public Accountants...Why do you...

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 10:49 AM PST

    1. Why do you think most auditors/accountants in public accept the insane hours, stress levels, and generally unhealthy working environment when they likely know it exists before applying to the job?

    2. Why do you not all just raise a coup and go home after a reasonable working day/week? I mean it's not like they can fire everyone for caring about their individual mental, physical, and emotional health. Certainly not while there's an insane shortage of staff... which there probably wouldn't be if management just hit the reset button, hired enough staff to do a job without dying, and told everyone you should go home no later than a 10 hour day for the sake of your health (which is already a potential 50 hour week and that's still ugly to me).

I legitimately don't understand why the employees accept the existing format of the job... please explain. And may the odds someday be in your favor 🙏

Sincerely, Industry acct who refused to ever go public because of the annual vent on its miserable existence

Halp - What to do next? #greatresignation

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 08:09 AM PST

    Hi All!

Long time lurker, first time ranter/poster here...

I have been working at a large university for the last 7 years. I came here thinking WLB would be great and it was for a while. May 2021 my boss two levels up gives notice that she will be leaving in July 2021...then Sept. 2021 my awesome boss gives notice that she is leaving for a consulting gig. I am now DROWNING in work. It doesn't help that we have Federal auditors on us all year asking for unreasonable amounts of support and silly questions (ex: please explain why there is a 1 cent difference between the support and the entry in the financial system). I am working nights and weekends and I am exhausted. I don't mind occasionally working late to get something done, but this has been going on for months now. I got the promotion to my boss' job this month even though I have been doing the work since October '21. I tried to negotiate remote and got a big fat no on that. My management is super slow to hire replacements and I think it is on purpose as a cost savings measure. No one has been hired yet to replace the two people that left. I am burnout and generally ready for a change.

I turned the looking button on on my LinkedIn, but didn't get much attention. I think it is because I have a title at the University that doesn't really exist in private although I have transferrable skills. I have my CPA and before working at the university I had a few years of experience testing SOX controls and doing other internal audit type work. I have a ton of experience now with big data sets ($billions) and mostly do a niche type of cost accounting (indirect cost rates/forward proposals). I am thinking of shifting to a financial analyst/senior financial analyst or a senior accountant. Do you think that is possible? My title currently has manager in it. Is that a "turnoff" for the analyst and senior accountant roles? I would need remote as I am not in a large metro area. Anything else I should be doing other than looking on LinkedIn and Indeed? Are people just throwing resumes at positions to see what sticks??? I am trying my best to have something else lined up before I quit.

    tldr - need a new job :)

Need masters degree for industry jobs?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 08:09 AM PST

Do you need to have masters degrees, like MBA or JD, to get higher-level industry jobs? I only have a bachelors as I didn't do the masters of accounting to get the 150 credits but it seems like most people have higher education these days. Wasn't sure if this would hold me back from having high level positions like jobs past controller level.

Advice to give my boyfriend during busy season?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 06:11 PM PST

Hi all. My bf has recently entered his third busy season as a senior associate, and I really want to be able to support him emotionally thru this tough time. I see that he's so emotionally drained, he says he feels hollow and sad during the week from the stress. I really want to offer him advice when he's feeling super down. I say that I'm here for him and that I'll listen whenever. But I wish there was something else I could say. I haven't gone thru the hell he's gone thru and I really wish there was smth I could say or do to help him out.

TLDR: I want to help my bf thru busy season and I want advice, more than just a "I'm here for you"

How to capture sample production units in SAP?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 06:36 AM PST

I am a Cost Accountant at a medical device company. We recently moved from JDE to SAP. We frequently take completed units from production as samples, but those samples are being treated against department unit production since they aren't able to be sold. How can we use SAP to quantify the total units made as samples?
