Posted: 01 Dec 2021 07:17 PM PST Early November my boss sent out a message to all employees stating that with the holidays approaching, we were now required to come in 15 minutes early for our shifts. Additionally for EACH MINUTE we are late, she will deduct $10 from our paychecks. We make on average $10/hour, with our shifts only being between 3-6 hours long. If we're even 5 minutes late, that's basically a whole day's worth of labor gone due to that deduction. We never signed a contract nor gave verbal approval/compliance with this notice. I live in Georgia, are they legally allowed to do this? [link] [comments] |
My Ex won't stop suing me because he has to pay child support. Posted: 02 Dec 2021 03:07 AM PST I apologize for the heavily opinionated subject, I realize there's no way to prove someone's intentions, but can we assume that's true to humor me? :( For background, just the facts. My Ex:
So this is getting expensive for me, considering he's not helping financially, and going to court regularly is hurting mine and the baby's wellbeing. Is there any obvious resources or options for dealing with this situation? He visits mexico regularly and I heard something about revoking his passport, but that doesn't help me or the baby much. Any advice? Edit: I'm considering asking him to relinquish his rights which involves him no longer ordered to pay child support--I believe it will guarantee he will leave us alone. Edit 2: Not sure if this makes a difference but there is a restraining order against him for violent threats against me and my family. Edit 3: The state is California if that makes a difference. Assaulted by security contractor outside large retail store Posted: 01 Dec 2021 10:17 PM PST I apologize if this seems a little erratic but this just happened on my way home and I'm trying to get everything out while it's still fresh in my mind. I was on my way home when I stopped into a big box retail store to quickly use the restroom. I went directly to the restroom and then immediately walked out of the store. I couldn't have been in there for more than five minutes. I was walking out with my headphones on and as I was exiting the building, I heard some general shouting. As I got outside the door, I turned and saw the security contractor following me out demanding to search my bag. I told him I was catching a bus and didn't have time to stop. He continued to follow me down the sidewalk and demanded to search my bag. I told him he did not have the right to search my personal belongings and to leave me alone. At this point, he then grabbed me and attempted to push me up against the side of building and said that he was a cop (he was decked out in tactical gear but was also clearly not a cop). The second he put his hands on me, I shouted at him to leave me alone and that he could not touch me. It was at this point that he became even more aggressive and kept attempting to throw me down onto the side walk. Luckily I was able to stay standing but had to continually fight him off for the next several minutes. He managed to tear the strap off of my bag and also ripped my mask off of my face. At one point he even He only stopped after I had been fighting him off for 5-10 minutes and said that he was going to call the police (shocker, he wasn't a cop). He then walked back into the store at which point I called 911 myself. About five minutes before they arrived, I saw the guy who attacked me walk out the front of the store with his things and leave the area. Even after I told him I was calling the police and he said he was doing the same. Eventually the police came and I gave a statement along with two witnesses who saw him assault me. The problem that I have is that the real police weren't able to arrest him because he left before they got there. How can I get more information about this guy so they police can issue a warrant and arrest him? *formatting [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2021 06:00 PM PST So in 2016 I sent an artwork to an appraiser in the USA. It was authenticated and appraised at around 16k. I wasn't in a rush to get get it back and in Dec 2016, I was told it was safe in their office. In 2017 they reached out and as I was travelling, we communicated but I had no address for the artwork yet. I reached out in 2018 and they said the artwork was still safely tucked away and they would return it when I gave them an address. Long story short, I went through some family troubles and the artwork got put on the back burner. Remembering the artwork, I reached out a few months ago for an update as I'm now settled and have a shipping address. No response, so i call and they say they 'gave it away' as a gift after their 'legal responsibility' to hold the artwork had lapsed. I appreciate there was a long time between contact, but my last message from them in 2018 was that the artwork was safely tucked away. Had I of known they were going to give it away or dispose of the work, I would have put it in storage or shipped it to a friend. $16,000 is no small amount of money. I was given no warning the artwork would be given away or that there was an issue with them holding the work. As I'm in another country and with COVID, navigating this now is tricky. What are my next moves? Did they have a right to give it away without warning and do I have any right to compensation or return of the work? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Being Charged For an Ambulance Ride From When I Was 16 Years Old. Posted: 01 Dec 2021 08:07 PM PST Today in the mail I received a $1700 bill from Paramedics Plus (EMS service in Oakland, CA) for an Ambulance I didn't ask for when I was in high school (5 years ago). I was having pretty bad period cramps and was on the verge of passing out and my parents were at work so without anybody to contact EMS services were requested. The School did this without my or my parents consent. Since I was minor at the time, I find it unreasonable to be receiving this bill now as an adult, years later. What are my options in this scenario and is it possible for me to contest this charge? [link] [comments] |
FedEx incorrectly marked my order as delivered. Target won't send me refund/replacement. Posted: 02 Dec 2021 12:44 AM PST I ordered a Pixel 6 from Target to my friend in Ohio. FedEx marked it as delivered on 24th Nov, at 9am, when I was at work. There was no package. The leasing office was closed that day. There is no CCTV. Followed up with FedEx who asked me to take it up with Target. Target reviewed and said they "consider this a successful delivery and are unable to issue any refunds", and restricted my ticket, despite having no proof of delivery. I used an Indian credit card for the transaction, and they said they couldn't do a chargeback. Can I take this up with small claims court? Should I file in India or US? What is the process? What are my chances of redressal? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2021 08:31 PM PST So about a day ago my roommate and I signed a lease on a new place. My roommate sent me their portion of the remaining security deposit so I could pay them both at the same time. Anyway, this required me to place my bank account information on my management's website. While paying the remainder I made sure that auto pay was off. Fast forward to today, the first, I see that my account has been overdrawn from my landlord recharging me the security deposit along with my roommate and I's rent. This was completely without my consent. When I called management none of them answered. What should be my next course of action? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2021 09:07 PM PST My sister got a job at the dollar tree and was trained one day before being put on the register. At the end of the day the manager told her her till was short 50$ in cash and that she needed to pay it back out of her pocket. Well she didn't have 50$ so the manager put that money out of her pocket into the register and told her that she needed to be paid back by Friday. I'm not sure this manager can just ask for cash I've already told her to call dollar tree HR and make a report. And to not give her cash on Friday just to take any disciplinary action even if it's firing. [link] [comments] |
Got a letter from DA’s office about forged ballot Posted: 01 Dec 2021 05:05 PM PST I am currently in college and live away from home (it is a different district but the same state, USA). Apparently, I got a ballot for that district mailed there, but I had NO idea of it. My family says they don't know if they ever saw it and if they did they would have thrown it away. Now I got a letter (to that address) saying that there is signature discrepancies and possible fraud. They also included that I can be charged with a Class 5 Felony. I did NOT fill out the ballot. I didn't even know I had it. I did however get a ballot for the current county I am in. I did NOT fill it out because water spilled all over it and I really didn't care enough to get a new one. What confuses me is I looked up my voter registration, and it says I've only got a residential address/registration in my home county. The DA office of home county is calling me tomorrow but what am I supposed to expect? I didn't fill out a single ballot, and didn't even know I had one for the county the fraud occurred in. Could someone have found it in the trash and turned it in? (Note I did NOT receive any mail regarding my college towns election- I simply just did not vote. I got the mail from my home town) TIA! Posted: 01 Dec 2021 10:36 PM PST Hello so I'm currently facing a 10 day vacate or comply in the state of Washington due to several complaints from my downstairs neighbor. The big issue is the leasing is under my military husband name and he is not here right now he's on a small deployment. What are my rights. Apparently the complaints are due to my washer dryer being on past quiet hours (10pm -7am on my lease but on their lawyers paper they put 8 which is wrong) when it's not and I know it's possibly the next door neighbors. And I also got a complaint that I'm stomping which I only did once cause the neighbor knocked on my Walls while I was crying (won't go into that) and I stomped back out of frustration. They also complained that my dog barks (he used to when he was a baby back in early march but he no longer does. I have a pup cam which detects sounds so it catches every bark or whine and he hardly does it) but state law says if a dog barks more than 10-15 minutes then it's an issue. I'm curious as to what the best option is. I'm wondering if I should get a lawyer myself to be safe. I may want to just vacate or at least break the lease in general cause I haven't been able to feel comfortable in my own apartment. The walls are paper thin so I can only imagine if you literally shit or cry to yourself you'll get a complaint. I also know tenants worse than me who still manage to live here and I'm wondering if it's because we're younger and they assume we'll just listen to all their threats. I'm a bit frustrated doing this alone because my husband is not here. I need help. [link] [comments] |
Unsupportive father (Philippines) Posted: 02 Dec 2021 04:19 AM PST I hope you can help me. What can you do to ensure your father supports the family financially? My parents have been separated for a long time but only my mom does the responsibilities of a parent. I get that my mom is a government employee, so she has a stable income whereas my dad relies on his commissions. But when he visits us and stays at the house (I know, weird set up talaga) he becomes a freeloader. Sure, he buys food but that's because he's here. He uses our Wi-Fi,electricity,water, but doesn't even give the money to pay the bills. I try to understand him so hard because of his situation, but it's been so long and I feel sorry for my mom who's working so hard for us. She spends 6 out of 7 days, 8-9 in the office. I know I'm not a minor anymore, but can we take legal action for this? I want my dad to be reminded of his responsibility as a father. I'm still financially -dependent and I need his support since me and my sibling are in college. [link] [comments] |
I feel that someone at work may accuse me of SH Posted: 01 Dec 2021 08:44 PM PST Knoxville, TN, I (30y/o male) work at a restaurant, mid-management, and believe that is possible I will be accused of sexual harassment by my employer. My workplace is full of pretty informal "guy-talk" and this is the norm. One man recently found out that I am a queer person and suddenly the joking and good-natured teasing, even patting him in the back to say good job or tapping his shoulder to get his attention is making him "uncomfortable". He seems to think these minor interaction are me hitting on him. If I am accused, what are my rights and what should I do other than appeal to reason? I'll be happy to explain a bit more if I get any helpful replies. [link] [comments] |
Terms and conditions of a pc protection plan , Posted: 02 Dec 2021 04:07 AM PST Under my warrenty I'm covered for a incident of accidental damage repair and if the pc is found non repairable I'll be reembursed the amount paid , now I've gone thru my terms and conditions top to bottom regarding if the pc must retain all oem parts and all there is discusses non factory parts being not covered , over the years I've upgraded things and no longer retain the original manufacture parts . It states no where in my contract that for them to asses the damage the pc must be complete. They do state to remove all personal information prior but circumstances( same reason for the claim) have made that impossible without a 3rd party, for my privacy and security id prefer to not have to go this route . So again no where does it state in the policy or procedure reasons to deny my claim besides if it's deemed non accidental . But obviously you see my hesitation with the situation and I do understand . Any advice , pointers or direction. Any serious help I can show a copy of it to [link] [comments] |
