Who would I contact (or is there like, a service?) to compare my employer provided health insurance plan against another private plan I signed up for to see which is better?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 04:42 AM PDT

Got a health insurance plan for my wife, then I started working at a new job where they provided health insurance, so now she has 2 policies.

I'm pretty new to the insurance world, so I'm not too educated on how to compare policies, or even what to look for when comparing them. Any pointers or advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks

For insurance on domiciles, why is it "home insurance" and "home claims" versus "house insurance" and "house claims"

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 01:09 AM PDT

Just something I've been wondering, why the terminology?

Like, I know most homes are a house (unless you've made your home in an RV)

But I know not every house is a home to the person insuring it.

Like some people insure vacant houses, some people insure investment properties, but these all fall under a "Home insurance" umbrella, and when things go wrong, they are "home claims"

Or at least in disaster where a close relative to me works.

But I asked them this same question, with the same points (investors, vacant houses, which they do have coverage over in the company they work for) that not every house is a home.

They actually don't know, so I'm curious Reddit.

I'm insurance, why are all houses, homes?

I got into a car accident and don't know what to do

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:18 PM PDT

I'm a new driver in California and I was driving last week to my clinical site at around 5am. It was dark and raining heavily. I couldn't see the road clearly and crashed into a road divider. I'm pretty sure that no one was hurt/damaged but my car. However, I didn't look what kind of damage I made to the road divider. I panicked and I just drove away and tried to park a few minutes after the incident. If I call my insurance and ask for money to fix my car, what should I say regarding to the public property that I might have damaged? Thanks!

AAA payment suddenly says $0.00 but no payment was ever made

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:37 PM PDT

Hello! I am not the account owner but I pay my moms car insurance for her and last week I had checked the minimum payment for the account which was $158 but today I went to go check because my card was never auto charged and it says that there is no minimum payment due for November and I am so confused. The only card on there is mine and I never got charged. It says the last payment made was 10/1 but nothing for 11/1. Was there some kind of like promotion or something going on? Does this happen to anyone else?

Question about hard living vs vandalism

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:41 PM PDT

So I have a rental property. I am at the end of and eviction of my brother and his mistress. I was told by family that they ripped doors off the hinges. (From them slamming them) some doors are broken. Cut blind cords,(small kids not being watched) nail polish all over the hard floors and carpet so on. I won't be able to see the property until Monday. To asses all the damages. I was wondering what constitutes hard living vs vandalism. Is it worth the trouble for my insurance company to come out? Since it's an eviction I don't see them paying for any of the damages themselves.

Submit homeowner's claim for roof/deck leak?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:21 PM PDT

Washington state homeowner with one of the major insurers. I have a 3,000 square foot home that was built in the 1990s. It's an interesting layout in that the deck on the main floor of the home is over the tv/rec room downstairs, doubling as its ceiling. A few years ago I noticed a stain on the ceiling of the rec room and it was clear that water was leaking through from the main floor deck above. I purchased some caulk and tried to seal off the entire seam along the base of the door on the upper deck myself and have noticed no additional evidence of moisture in this area.

Fast forward to today, we had a major rain and wind storm and my kids came up to tell me that something was the matter in the rec room. I went down to find that a good 2' x 2' portion of the ceiling had peeled away and was hanging down. There was a six inch water spot on the floor and the exposed area on the ceiling was wet. I'm guessing I'm going to need a roof/deck repair and that there is going to be a lot of water damage in the internal structure of the ceiling.

I purchased the home in 2003 and haven't ever had to use my homeowner's and I'm wondering if it's time to give my insurance company a call on this. I have a $1k All peril deductible and I've heard warnings of premiums going up with new claims, but I'm definitely speculating that this is going to be a many thousand dollar repair. And will my attempted self repair of the area of the leak hurt the likelihood of the insurance company allowing my claim?

    Worth the claim?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:08 PM PDT

Front Windshield completely smashed through by road debris in Arizona. No one at fault. I have coverage that would allow for zero out of pocket cost to me, but im afraid of the probable increase in premium and negative hit on my report. So far quoted for $350 for a replacement, assuming no calibration or further repair will be needed ($600 if so)

Is the upfront loss of $600 better than the possible premium increase for the next several years?

    Roof payout

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:42 PM PDT

I'm buying a home and the sellers are replacing the roof through insurance but I want to pay the difference for a metal roof. I'm a cash buyer. The sellers roofer is astronomical. He quoted 46k for a metal roof on 2,200 sqft. The insurance is paying out 23k for the roof but can I just have the seller deduct that amount from the price and then when I close I can shop roofers and have it done? The seller isn't on board with shopping metal roofers for me. I guess my question is more so, does the insurance have to see the roof was completed by the time we close?

[Help] Is a 50/50 split common or fair if you’re working for an insurance group?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:03 PM PDT

I am currently working as a health insurance marketer for an insurance group. As of right now, I am trying to debate whether or not my position and the group that I'm with is worth it.

For my marketing position, I make hourly, but I make commission for each sale that I make (roughly $10 per person). That commission is not residual, so they won't actually end up being my own clients. All I do is market the insurance to them, so I'm not an agent.

So once open enrollment is over, I won't have an income. That is my first problem, but secondly, even when I become an agent, my split is 50/50 between my group and myself. Is this a good split? What is typical? Also am I thinking about this the right way, where am I thinking things through the wrong way?

Thank you to anybody who responds, I'm very very new to this and know not too much. Any advice or correction is helpful! (hopefully)

Best insurance companies that would actually be helpful when things hit the fan

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 07:40 PM PDT

While many people may shop for the lowest prices they may not be thinking what happens when the unthinkable happens. When you would depend on a insurance company the most for help?

Apparently there is a lot of secrecy and not much talked about how that insure responds when their customers actually encounter a real crisis. Whether they try to help as best as possible or just throw them under the bus.

There is also the issue of how insurers may penalize consumers for making a tiny mistake. Some are much worse than others.

    Anyone have real life examples?

Apparently there are ones like Liberty Mutual that claim they are forgiving as even the best humans make mistakes however they are usually expensive to begin with. Though do they live to their words?

Is there any reason to get a Personal Excess Policy through work vs Stand-alone Umbrella policy?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 07:31 PM PDT

I've been shopping for a personal Umbrella policy and am going through open enrollment at work right now. Just realized my work offers a Chubb Personal Excess Policy up ($1M - $10 M+). I have also shopped around for a stand-alone policy and found Stillwater would write one ($1M+). I just need a $1 M policy and can save about $100 buying through Stillwater. However, is there any reason to get the Chubb policy through work?

New Homeowners Policy-inspection needed-what to expect

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 07:24 PM PDT

As the title states, I'm in the middle of changing policy's and the new insurers need to come out within 60 days to do an inspection. It states they will knock but I don't need to be present for the inspection. I assume this is an exterior inspection only or is it more than that? I'm not worried so much as I just started peeling wallpaper from a bathroom and have the mirror out and a few small projects and rather have things sealed up prior to them arriving.

Any thoughts or how this process works typically?

GEICO auto insurance terminating your policy…

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 07:06 PM PDT

I just got an e-mail from GEICO stating that they will terminate my insurance starting Jan 2022, and the reasons stated were because of the 2 speeding tickets that I have received in past 12 months. I also have my insurance held and cars registered in NY but reside in WA (was not able to change policy to WA because it was still registered in NY), which my registration expires in Jan 2022. My question is, does anybody have experiences with GEICO or any other auto insurance companies that would terminate your auto insurance because you received multiple traffic tickets or because your registration is about to expire?

My understanding is that receiving tickets will give you points on your record and will increase the price but not necessarily terminate your policy.

    Typical UW/Broker salaries in Chicago

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:57 PM PDT

I am currently an UW for a property and casualty carrier in chicago that deals with large corporate accounts. Ive been there for 8 years and currently make about 90k. I was wondering what the average salary was for underwriters and brokers in the Chicagoland/Midwest region, as ideally I'd like to know if I'm being adequately compensated.

(FL-Tampa) Brokers insist that I get HO3 insurance instead of HO6 for a Townhouse, but my HOA regulations state they will cover exterior roof damage and I also share the roof with the people next to me so I need clarification in case they're trying to rip me off

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:42 PM PDT

So basically all three brokers I've spoken to, have told me that I need HO3 because my HOA has not registered our Townhome association as a "condo" in the county. I read my HOA rules& regulations and it seems like my HOA does take care of the roof exterior in case of damage, so that is why I am confused. I told the brokers this, and they said "no, that means they will only take care of maintenance repairs not actual damage caused by whatever". My HOA is not answering which is super annoying. This is a pic of a portion of the regulations from my HOA that talk about the "Common Roof of Homes". Also, I included an aerial pic of my Townhouse. (The red scratched marks are the 4 units within one lot)

Also my way of thinking is , if I share the roof with 3 other units , why do I need this type of insurance that covers exterior roof damage? Like why am I fixing their roof too lol.

    Accident based Question

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 05:42 PM PDT

My partner was involved with a minor fender bender. We live in Michigan and have Michigan based insurance. The other party has Texas based insurance. The accident happened in Michigan. He's threatening to push legal action against her for the damage to the vehicle. From what I understand, she is protected due to Michigan No-Fault. Is there something I am missing? Thanks for your responses.

Forgot to add. There was no police report filed. Both parties exchanged info and went their separate ways.

New roof - 3 leaks. Now water damage in my walls. What to do?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:34 PM PDT

Roof installed almost 2 years ago. The old roof didn't have any leaks but I wanted solar, and there was no sense in installing solar on a shingle roof 16 years old.

Since the new roof was installed, I've had multiple leaks with the new roof. In the garage, in the bathroom, and now by my front door.

It appears that the leak is happening by a flashing/gutter. Not sure how its getting in, but I only noticed because my hardwood floors were dark and warped. Once I started to look around, I can see paint bubbling on the wall, the window trim is soft and can be moved with my fingers.

Anytime I call the roofer, they do the least amount of work to patch up the leak. Usually slapping tar to try to seal it. This time they applied calking to the area they think its leaking from and said new flashings wasn't included in the reroof price.

I spoke to another roofer who installs the same product, and they said new flashings are always done when the old ones are not 100%.

Anyway, worried about whats going on inside the wall, I pulled the baseboard today then cut a hole and it looks like this:

    https://i.imgur.com/DpPVqkY.jpg

It smells moldy and the wall is soft.

I don't know if I can try to claim against the roofer's insurance or not. I called my insurance agent and they were trying to tell me if it wasn't from storm damage then they wouldn't cover it. In this case because its damage from the roofing company.

Any idea whos right, or what my best path forward is?

    Tools and Equipment Insurance

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:05 PM PDT

Is there a reputable insurance company to go thru to cover trade tools when they are stolen? Do places like Geico do such a thing or is it only smaller specific insurances?

My husband was robbed of every one of his electrical tools while working over the road, and we've gone thru the infuriating process of learning that even tho homeowners insurance said it was going to be covered, that because it was used for his profession, the $3000+ of tools are specifically excluded from the coverage.

This is not a thing I would like him to ever be victim to again, but I'm quite overwhelmed at the moment trying to do this research.

Any advice is taken in appreciation! Thanks!

Unable to Claim AppleCare+ For Stolen iPhone 13 Pro Due to Being Removed from FindMy

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:59 PM PDT

Over a month ago I attended a music festival for the first time and had an amazing time, aside from one small detail... I had my phone pickpocketed! I was walking out of the crowd to the bathrooms and saw an old friend that I have some sad shared memories with. We usually end up crying whenever we see each other so I decided to try and avoid her, and hit the honey bucket. I decided to circle back through the crowd a different way, and was pretty distraught and distracted thinking about old memories. Once I got back to my friends I realized my phone was gone and asked my friend who I share my location with to check if he could find my phone. When he opened up FindMy it said 'No Location Found' and we quickly surmised that my phone had been pickpocketed when I was walking back through the crowd. I knew I had made myself look like an easy target walking alone in a crowded area with a distraught look on my face, I was upset for a couple minutes but decided I didn't want to let having my phone stolen ruin the festival and tried to have a good time. I remembered I had AppleCare+ Theft and Loss protection and felt reassured thinking that I'd be able to get a replacement phone without having to shell out $1000 again. I filed a police report with the county for my stolen phone and was told by the Sheriff that over 2000 phones had been reported as stolen at the music festival!

I started filling out my AppleCare+ claim, which requires you to put the phone into lost mode on the FindMy app. When I logged on to FindMy through iCloud I saw that my iPhone 13 Pro had been completely removed from my Apple ID! The phone was no longer listed as a device on my account so there was no way for me put the device into lost mode. I went into the apple store and used a friends phone to call support a couple times, and found out there was nothing Apple could do to help me, I needed to speak with AIG, the insurance company Apple contracts out to take care of insurance claims. I called AIG and explained the situation to a representative who was optimistic there was a workaround he could help me use to get my claim processed. He said he had to get help from someone at Apple, left me on wait for over an hour, and then called back and said the Apple employee he needed to talk to was out for the day. The AIG representative and I exchanged phone numbers and emails and he said he would follow-up with Apple and get back to me. I called him back everyday for a week straight and left a voicemail each time and still have not heard back from him. I decided to follow-up with AIG again to see if I could get another representative to help me, after retelling the story again I was told by AIG that they would look into it and to follow-up in 2-3 days. I called back after 3 days and was told that no one had looked into it yet, and to follow-up again in 2-3 days. I called back again after a few days had passed and was told the representative who had been assigned to the case had been out sick, and was told to follow-up again in 2-3 days. After following up a fourth time with AIG they asked if I had an email saying my phone had been removed from my iCloud account. I looked through my email and was unfortunately unable to find any such email. I told AIG I couldn't find the email, but still wanted to pursue claiming my insurance, they said there was nothing they could do without the phone being put into lost mode, and that I needed to talk to Apple if I wanted to pursue my insurance claim further. I was pretty frustrated at this point not having a phone for a few weeks, but felt my perseverance would be rewarded if I just stuck with it.

I was transferred back to Apple Support, reexplained the situation, and was told there was no way Apple's security systems could have been compromised and that the my phone being removed from my Apple ID must have been user error. I am extremely confident that my phone was on my Apple ID, and I have multiple friends willing to testify that I have been sharing my location with them for years. I repeated this to Apple Support a few times, but they kept saying that my phone must have gotten put on one of my family members Apple ID's. We ended up trying to put my sister's old phone into lost mode, which apple support kept arguing that it was my phone until my sister turned it on and they were able to see it was indeed not my phone. I then got transferred to a manager who said Apple's engineers would take a week to look at the case and get back to me. After only one day they called me back and said there was no way someone could have removed my phone from FindMy without my Apple ID password. I repeated that it must be possible, because it is what had happened to me and I was getting tired of Apple denying that there was a way to compromise their security systems. Apple support then kept asking if I wanted to change my password, which I had done weeks earlier, and when I said I wanted to talk about my insurance claim they said there was nothing else they could do with my theft claim. I then went into the Apple Store in person and was told again (quite rudely) that there was nothing that they could do other than sell me a new phone.

The AppleCare+ agreement says that FindMy had to be enabled up until the point the phone was lost and then placed into lost mode. From my perspective, I did everything I could to keep FindMy on up until the point it was stolen and thus fulfilled my half of the agreement, it is not my fault that Apple's security systems were breached and my phone was removed from my account. Apple's constant denial that this situation could have occurred has been very frustrating, and disregards that if thieves were to steal thousands of phones in a couple days then they would probably have a plan to disable the location and lost mode so they wouldn't get caught.

This whole ordeal has left me feeling very dissatisfied with Apple as a company and has been a constant stresser on me for over a month now. I have always admired Apple's professional culture and products and assumed that all the commercials they run about how great their security are true. This has been a very eye-opening experience for me of the true corporate nature of Apple and insurance claims. I guess it was a bit naive, but I thought that since my phone had truly been stolen and I had been an Apple customer for over 10 years that at some point the situation would rectified. I bought the insurance to specifically protect against this situation, and it has been very disappointing to learn that I was not as protected as I thought and there is no one at Apple that can really help me.

Now that I have some absolution that there is nothing Apple will do to respect my insurance claim, I guess it is time to buy another phone... I own and subscribe to so many Apple products already that I feel like I have to get another iPhone, but out of principal do not want to give them any more of my money when they would not respect my insurance claim.

Has anyone experienced something similar and have any advice? Is there any sort of legal argument I could validly make to try and get my claim processed?

    Renters insurance and displacement question

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:23 PM PDT

There is some work that will have to be done on our condo that might displace us a little while (1 day to 6 weeks, we aren't sure the extent of the problem). My girlfriend is the main leaseholder of our condo and I found out she doesn't have renters insurance. If she signed up for it today, would we be covered for any displacement? No work has been done yet and we have not been told if we will even have to leave the condo either.

Parts unavailable. Insurance wants me to accept a damaged car that can't be repaired or sold

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:44 PM PDT

I'll make this as short as possible...

I was rear-ended back in early August. The bumper that my car needs is part of a factory body kit and it's not super common. The bumper is on indefinite backorder with no ETA for availability and the current damage estimate is just under half the value of the car so it's not a clear case of totaling the car out.

The other party's insurance is trying to force me to take their estimate as a payout and I'd be stuck with a still-damaged car that can't be repaired or sold for the foreseeable future. On a forum, one guy has been looking for the same bumper part since January...

What options do I have here? Keep pursuing total loss with the at-fault party's insurance? Get my own insurance involved? Small claims court?

I really don't want to be stuck with this car especially when I didn't cause any of this. The other detail is a medical claim that I'm wondering if it can be "allocated" towards the damage estimate in pursuit of totaling the car.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
