Posted: 09 Aug 2021 11:17 AM PDT My business is a prof services company. Was hired as a sub to a sub on a project with a difficult owner (client). After months of dispute on work deliverables, and having to hear about getting sued by them every meeting I am finally at the point that they agree their request is new work and not 'warranty' on my past work. Now I have no desire to work with them anymore, and won't be giving a proposal for this new work (since they likely won't pay, and even if I did a 100% deposit, the headache is not worth the fees), I need to say I'm out. How have you fired a client in the past? [link] [comments] |
Considering starting a kit-car assembly business Posted: 09 Aug 2021 09:09 AM PDT Hi everyone! I've been toying around with the idea of building kit-cars for fun, but figured I could probably turn it into a low volume business. I would primarily build Factory Five Racing kits. Relevant info: I would buy a property/build a shop in central North Carolina (about an hour south of Raleigh. I'm a 100% disabled veteran. (This is through the VA, not Social Security. Figured I should clarify since I already got some hate for it.) I wouldn't have any issue shipping the vehicle if the customer isn't local. I have around $30k in the bank and no debt. I am comfortable taking loans for the property/building. Any thoughts on the topic or tips/recommendations on the process would be greatly appreciated. I know the SBA has their Patriot Express loan for veterans. If you know of any other resources, please let me know. [link] [comments] |
As business owners, have you ever heard of a single page application? Posted: 09 Aug 2021 11:28 PM PDT In the context of websites and web development, I'm curious how many of you know what a SPA is? [link] [comments] |
Where to find enterprise customer success consultants and advisors Posted: 10 Aug 2021 02:56 AM PDT Where is the best place to find enterprise customer success consultants and advisors? Are there any good directories or specific companies/consultants/advisors that you would recommend? [link] [comments] |
Small Business accounting software? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 02:47 AM PDT Currently looking at accounting software, and I came across Quick Books Accounting software. Just wondering if any of you have had experience with it vs the other major software companies. Just got a few questions that arise from it.

Tax auditor demands my assistance with investigation of Amazon.com Posted: 09 Aug 2021 06:51 PM PDT I have some Amazon affiliate links on my web site. When somebody clicks a link and buys something, Amazon pays me a small commission. I'm sure many of you have the same thing on your sites. At the end of the year, Amazon sends me a tax form documenting the total amount of commissions I was paid that year. Today I received a letter from a tax auditor at the California Employment Development Department, requesting (or more like demanding) my assistance with a "routine investigation" of Amazon. The letter concludes, in all caps, "RESPOND WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS OF RECEIPT OF THIS LETTER". They're asking me to complete a six page questionnaire regarding the types of services I provided to Amazon, and the length of time I worked there, which doesn't really make sense for affiliate sales. And the questionnaire is unbearably long, consisting of 37 questions where most of them have multiple sub-questions. It asks for information like whether my work office is rented or owned, the value of my tools, equipment, and facilities used to perform work with Amazon, a copy of the affiliate agreement, information about my employees, and much more. Has anyone else ever received a similar letter? Is there any risk if I simply ignore it? I'm not inclined to spend hours of my time documenting every detail of my business for the benefit of some third party. [link] [comments] |
How to create a Google ad without the name of my business or describing what I do Posted: 09 Aug 2021 08:56 PM PDT I have a bit of a weird question - I have a Mac repair business and it's called (My City) Mac Repair. Things have been very successful in the year we've been going, but I want to start using Google ads to hopefully bring even more customers in. The only problem is that when I posted my ad, I was shadowbanned (confirmed by Google support). The reason? Mac and Apple and Macbook are all restricted terms on Google ads and any ads that use those words will be blocked. So this poses a dilemma - how do I create an effective ad campaign without mentioning the name of my business or that I repair Macbooks? Could use some creative help! [link] [comments] |
Payroll processing software, out of these four what's your choice? Posted: 09 Aug 2021 08:56 PM PDT We need to pick from this list, quickbooks is a no go because CEO wants mobile payroll management capability and "desktop" won't cut it. Opinions? These are the four our ERP will work with. ADP workforce now Paychex flex Payplus Quickbooks desktop (only if mobile manageable). We are a small Startup business 10-20 employees, part time staff will have variable hours/pay. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2021 03:53 PM PDT I am preparing an agreement with a client that is basically marking up my consulting services and selling them to one of their clients. My terms call for payment in six weeks. They want me to change my contract with them, to say that they'll pay me when their client pays them. This does not sound right to me. I can't go after their client then if I'm not paid. I want to politely tell them this won't work, but before I do, wanted a reality check. Is it unreasonable to insist on my original terms, that I get paid in six weeks? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Social media automation tool - wjich one should I use? Posted: 09 Aug 2021 06:15 AM PDT Hi everyone! So, I'm an artist and I want to grow my social media following to reach more people (who doesn't? Lol). The problem is that I low key hate posting on social media haha. I simply forget about it and when I realize, it's been weeks I haven't posted. I'm thinking about starting to use a social media tool to get more organized. The main accounts I want to grow are Instagram and Pinterest. I'm looking for a tool where I can schedule posts ahead of time and that offers good analytics for me to keep track. I did some research and am a little overwhelmed with all the options out there, so I want your help! What tool do you use? Which ones do you recommend and not recommend? Thanks in advance!! Edit: I'm willing to pay! Don't want it to break the bank, but a small monthly subscription should work! [link] [comments] |
Foreign LLC? - Moving States and Losing Old Address Posted: 10 Aug 2021 12:09 AM PDT I'm an online worker and formed and LLC in Nevada about 2 years ago. I spend the vast majority of the year overseas, so I simply used my moms residential address and also setup a business bank account with it. She has relocated to WA state and selling the previous home, so I will no longer be able to use the NV address. I don't have much reason to go back to NV, so WA is the new "home base" if you will. I do intend to spend some time there too. My plan is to get a UPS mailbox in WA, which will be used as a dedicated address for the business (not a PO box). I will need to accept returns there and use mail forwarding. I also want to avoid using her residential address as the company is growing and have plans to setup a Trademark once a final setup in WA is complete. A quick search shows that registering a "Foreign LLC" is easier than dissolving the old one. My question is, can I do this even though I will no longer have access to the original NV address? And can I use the new WA address entirely? Thanks for your time, Jon [link] [comments] |
What kind of online business could help me reach my goals? Posted: 09 Aug 2021 08:20 PM PDT I'm 27 and really want to get extremely good at some kind of service like SEO. I had read a book by Elaine pofeldt called "the million dollar one person business" and it said with statistics to back it up that there are over 30-40K businesses in the US grossing 1-2.49 million usd a year with ONLY the founder. I plan to have employees eventually but I want something that you can scale pretty well on your own and if you want to grow further you take on employees. My goal isn't to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars I'd love to make a generous 6 figure income on a business that grosses 1-2.49 M within those parameters. What are some online service businesses that are relatively scalable that this is possible. I'm working from my goals and desired outcome backward. It may be extremely ambitious but if 40K people can do something so can I eventually with a shit ton of work and self study. I have excellent goal visualization I need a plan to get there. Posted: 09 Aug 2021 11:14 PM PDT I'm a web developer that makes websites from scratch, I've gotten into ecommerce a bit and built my own solution to sell for my business but I'm not sure how to make my online stores more specialized towards a specific industry. Should I try to do things that are popular or things I'm interested in or things that pay well? Thanks for any insight! [link] [comments] |
Tearing my hair out over pfp energy. Posted: 09 Aug 2021 10:31 PM PDT In short, I moved into a commercial premises, Glasgow Scotland, and carried on with the existing energy supplier. They have been an absolute nightmare to get hold of to solve a number of energy meter and billing issues to the point that I have decided to switch providers. Speaking with two other candidates, they both inform me that there is a particular setting on the national grid that pfp must change before any other company can take it over. Their phone lines for commercial businesses have been down for weeks and my emails are being bounced around to everyone in every department. I'm being fobbed off at every correspondence. I'm sure I will get to the bottom of it, but has anyone else been in this position and have any words of wisdom. I feel like they are holding my account at random, trying to get as many over estimated sky high bills out of me as possible. [link] [comments] |
Sales automation/lead nurturing? Posted: 09 Aug 2021 06:39 PM PDT Looking for suggestions for software that can send estimates, collect payments, etc. with drip email campaigns built in for lead conversion. This is for a residential painting company. Currently I'm trialing estimate rocket but I find it to be kinda clunky and I dislike the lack of an upfront deposit feature. What are y'all using that's getting results and user friendly for you and your clients? [link] [comments] |
Seeking help understanding where to form LLC Posted: 09 Aug 2021 09:18 PM PDT I am starting a business and was hoping to get some clarity on where to form the business and what kind of entity it should be (I understand that nobody here is my lawyer! Just seeking some friendly advice). Some background, there will be three of us to start. Two of us are in PA and one in NY. We do not plan on taking on investments so we're leaning towards an LLC. Our first client will be in NYC. We were loosely thinking about forming in Delaware but being an LLC instead of C/S-Corp I'm not sure if it really makes sense to do that. I'll have to still make foreign entities in New York and PA, right? Also, because it's an LLC and we'll have to pay taxes on our income how does this work per state where we earn income. If we only have this NYC customer will I have to pay NY tax and PA tax (where I live?) If we have multiple states, how do I know what portion was earned from my cut in NY assuming one of us is salaried and the other is just an owner? Thanks so much for your help! Let me know if I need to elaborate on anything [link] [comments] |

Why are Sole Props disallowed from using Registered Agents? Posted: 09 Aug 2021 01:50 PM PDT Is there any valid reason why most (all?) states will allow LLCs - from giant ones, to small ones - to use registered agents for their public filings, but Joe Bloe Plumber has to put his home address on a public database where anycome could just come and hind him at 3am? Is a sole prop even allowed to use an attorney's address as the business address? It doesn't seem right. Sole proprietors should be allowed to use Registered Agents - who will serve legal documents when needed to a verified physical address - to keep their home business addresses safe. End rant. International Wire When Your Bank Doesn't Posted: 09 Aug 2021 06:48 PM PDT SMB owner, I'm struggling to do an international wire to a manufacturer for $4,500 since none of the online banks for small business support international wires. Are there any services that support international wires to banks? For example, I give them my bank account info wire funds to them and then they wire funds to another bank account on my behalf? I do not need a currency transfer. TransferWise doesn't solve this. I need a transfer service that intermediates between banks. Western Union almost does, but they're asking for a bank card number instead of a bank account number. [link] [comments] |
Starting an EPSC install business. Few questions Posted: 09 Aug 2021 02:33 PM PDT Starters: I work as an EPSC inspector (EPSC is erosion prevention and sedimentation control) I plan on doing erosion control installs & site stabilizing. There is a high demand for this in my area due to poor jobs by other large companies. I'd offer a few free extra services that are overlooked in the field as well. Now, I am trying to get 5k in cash for my jeep before I move forward to get a few months of supplies built up, and at least a used ditch digger & cheap used work truck that can haul a Bobcat. I've already got the supplier for all of my controls set up, as a rental company that I've worked for before too set me up with a greatly discounted rental rate for the other equipment I need per job. My main questions are these:

Best set up for a business where one member is in another state? Posted: 09 Aug 2021 06:11 PM PDT Hi all! I'm in the planning stages of my small art and craft goods business, and was wondering what kind of set up would be best for me and a friend doing a sort of partnership (selling under the same brand, in my state) while she lives in another. I'm leaning limited liability partnership, but as I'm sourcing this all myself, I figured it would be good to ask if there's any equally low-cost routes to take (we don't plan on taking on employees for a long while, if ever, the goods are varied and subject to change but I do pyrography and other art projects, and she prefers to make stationery related items like handmade bookmarks). we have considering running the business completely under my name, and her contributions being listed more like a supplier, but I'm not sure that's the best route to take. Thanks all! Any suggestions made here will be great food for thought as I keep digging around. [link] [comments] |
