I live for accounting <3 i die for accounting <3

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:23 PM PDT

As I enter my small grey cubicle with the flickering lights at 8am in the morning, I sit down with my free coffee in my hand. Yes, it was free thanks to my wonderful manager and company <3. I began looking at invoices. My heart races as I see each new $ sign. "O.M.G. I am soo excited to start entering in my general ledger! <3"

As I began entering in numbers into the general ledger using ctrl + c then ctrl + v repeatedly, practicing the art of certain fingers I use at night, I get this thrill in my chest pumping. This. Is. So. Exciting! I feel a twitch of ecstacy when the debits matches the credits. I clench my stomach muscles in delight and desperately sip my free tim hortons coffee careful not to spill any office worker juice <3

Each hour I get this thrill and ecstacy everytime things balance. Suddenly, my manager knocks on my door and comes in my office. "Sorry John, can you stay overtime to help out with some things here?"

Oh. Em. Gee. I would LOVE to! I just can't wait to watch more things balance for free! I obviously agree.

That night, I got home at 12am in sadness. I wanted to stay longer :,(. As I open xxxvideos before hitting the bed, I realize I use the same hand and fingers as I used at work for ctrl + c and ctrl + v. It reminds me of how exciting accounting is! That night was absolutely exciting <3. I can't wait to do more accounting for 12 hours unpaid overtime tomorrow! Afterall, accounting is my passion.

I love accounting. I die for accounting. I live for accounting. <3

    Adios Big 4

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:49 PM PDT

Wow. After two years of Big 4 accounting and my CPA, its time for me to say goodbye. There truly is no better feeling than not only putting in the two weeks, but watching everyone's faces while doing it. That and legit slacking off so hard the whole time I was interviewing. Personally I did not have the worst experience, got lucky on staffing, knew how to work around the bullshit bureaucracy, etc., but I have been counting down the days since I started. I never even wanted to do accounting, just got too far in school/internships to pivot.

My next step is a complete change of career, going into banking and will be working just as much if not worse hours but double the pay. I hope everyone gets to put in those two weeks at some point if (and when) their time comes.

Advice: The less fucks you give about the job, the easier it truly gets.

Handing in my two weeks today

Wish me luck everyone. I'm leaving my small public firm for an industry position - it's going to be a 42% raise.

Cheers to everyone who's been struggling with the question of leaving or staying -- I hope you find a gig that will make you happy (or at the very least, content).

What’s the best way to resign from B4?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 09:36 AM PDT

I want to resign soon, but no idea how the process works. and I have no mentor or anyone to really get advice from.

What's the general process to resign? Do you schedule a meeting with your partner, or manager? Can you just email them? Who should you let know first? What should the email even say?

Edit: I work in audit and I'm a new first year senior. Don't have any new job lined up but I'm actively interviewing. Just burnt out, have zero motivation these days, and don't care anymore about my work.

    Robert Half....why the hate?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:34 AM PDT

Why does Robert Half get so much hate?

I'm asking because I'm considering using them to get out of my current job. I didn't go to a target school, I have a degree in finance and am finishing a degree in accounting this fall. The job I've had the past 6 years has been in admin in healthcare- non finance/accounting related and I'm burning out and need a change. After burning out this weekend I applied to 18 new internal accounting/finance roles and can just pray to land one but we'll see. I've also been applying out by myself but feel like maybe a recruiter wouldn't be a bad idea.

Is it terrible to use them?

What is it about them that everyone hates?

    Any guidance would be great.

Has anyone ever considered getting a PhD in accounting?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:48 PM PDT

I'm wondering if anyone has considered or is in the process of getting a PhD in accounting (or even if anyone already has one). Two of my favorite professors when I was in school both did two/three years of public, realized it wasn't for them, and them went back to school to get a PhD and become a professor. I always have considered that route after hearing how much they praised it. Idk the desk life isn't for me, and my parents always push for me to go back to school. I'm just curious about anyone else's experience with this.

    Quarter/Life Crisis

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 08:32 PM PDT

I can't help but think of all the choices that led me to be an accountant and maybe my life would be happier if I chose a different profession. I just cringe at the thought of waking up in 20 years wondering if I wasted my life.

Any one else going through a quarter-life/mid-life crisis?

Are paid training/internship accounting programs worth it?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 08:09 PM PDT

I'm currently a 2nd year university student who is looking for part time/casual work or internships related to accounting and finance.

Since I'm only a 2nd year in my 4 year course, I'm not qualified for most internships as they require applicants to be in their penultimate year of university. I don't have any actual finance and accounting experience and I'm nervous that if I still don't have any experience by next year, that I won't land any internships in my penultimate year. So essentially, I'm trying to gain experience now to increase my chances for next year.

While applying, I found a company that provides assistant accountant training (learning how to use XERO, MYOB, other basic accounting skills) and then a 4-5 month internship to apply these skills in a 'real-life' scenario. The fee for the 6 month program is around 2000 USD.

If people have done these types of programs before, are doing these types of programs, given my situation, worth it? I know that these programs are mainly for people after graduation or for migrates, but learning professional accounting skills before graduation appeals to me (hopefully it will increase my chances of getting a job or a internship next year)

Any thoughts on this is very much appreciated.

P.S. XERO and MYOB are the main software's used in Australia, my country of residence.

Corporate Write Off Question - Employee's Child Schooling

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 05:08 PM PDT

So, I work for a small business and handle most of the books. I am not a CPA or claim to have tax knowledge but I am hoping someone can help with this debate.

My boss is paying for his son's child's private school out of the business and claims it is an educational write off. I have been searching for the past two days trying to find an answer but all I come up with is info on employee education. We are in California. nI have been tasked with finding out this information so he can decide if he continues or switches to his personal account.

Any and all insight will be super helpful to me! Even a website where I can read for myself!
