My business is now supporting me

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 10:30 AM PDT

As of next week my consulting business will be exactly two months old, as my LLC was formed on 09 April 2021.

Today was a very important day for me as I paid my monthly household expenses and did it solely using income that i have paid myself from my new business.

I realized it this morning that I am now able to support myself with this new venture.

It is still very scary, but if i keep going the way that i am, I will be able to support my family, pay all my bills and still have the same equivalent salary that i have had for the last few years.

    what makes some businesses excel?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 12:12 AM PDT

The core idea imo is that businesses excel if they design their values, and leadership to be right for their business situation. And, of course they have the right leadership, processes and exceptional people to get the results. The overall business is more optimized and creates an above average product and so on.

If not that, what is your idea as to why some businesses excel(product and profit wise)?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:20 AM PDT

For a US based small business with qbo already set up with proper chart of accounts and with hubdoc, what would be the estimated average monthly cost to outsource bookkeeping?

We average 5-10 invoices per month, two AMEX accounts, one bank with 4 accounts.

    2021 SBA EIDL second round

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:02 AM PDT

Has anyone recently applied for second round of EIDL? I applied 2 weeks ago and am waiting to be assigned a loan officer. First round I took 30k and was approved and funded in no time. This time around I am requesting 100k. I have 1- 30 day late payment on my personal credit, score is still at a 675-700 depending where I look. Just curious is anyone with a situation like this has been approved no issue? Thanks for the help, any other info regarding 2021 second round is appreciated!

Built Oxygen manufacturing plant in India

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:12 AM PDT

    Hi folks, Good day!

I am working as a senior software engineer at a private firm in India. Rising covid-19 pandemic, there is always unavailability or less oxygen than required in India. So I thought why should I start an oxygen manufacturing plant and at least help the society around me. But I don't have huge money and land. One option is to go for a loan but I am afraid banks will give me huge money.

Having said these, how can I proceed? What should I do?

    VAT Help EU (Netherlands)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:31 AM PDT

    Hi everyone!

My name is Mel and I'm an 18 year old girl running a jewelry business. I'm originally from the states but I now live in the Netherlands and as I don't speak Dutch I'm having trouble finding the proper information on how to be compliant with bookkeeping, VAT, etc. My biggest question right now that I cannot seem to find the answer to ANYWHERE- am I required to collect VAT tax in all EU countries? I thought it was only in the Netherlands so this is what I have been doing for some time but someone mentioned to me this might not be the case and I'm quite stressed now aha. I'm very young and still learning but of course, I want to make sure I'm compliant. Could somebody help me out here and explain to me the regulations? I feel a bit in over my head sometimes as a one-person job :) Thank you in advance x

    Investing profits from LLC?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 01:23 PM PDT

This is my first post. I am a new "business owner" after previously filing as a sole proprietor for years in my industry in the state of Nevada. This year, I formed an LLC with S-Corp filing status to 1.) more easily seperate my personal income and business profits, and 2.) to reduce my taxable income to stay in the sub $40K tax bracket (12%).

For the foreseeable future, my annual profits will likely be in the $80K to $100K range. There will be a lot of money available in my business checking account that I don't want to sit idle and was thinking of creating a brokerage account in my LLC's name and investing in moderate to low risk stocks and bonds. In other's experience, is this a good way to go about it, or am I better off paying myself a higher salary and investing as an individual?

How does payroll work? (Solopreneur LLC)

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 07:18 PM PDT

I've been self employed for almost a decade and have a LLC. Recently I was instructed by my accountant that my income level is at a point where I should file as an S-Corp and start taking a salary. From what I know my accounting software (Wave) can do it. But how does it work?

I've always just transferred money to my personal checking as needed. My financials fluctuate a lot. One month could be $40K gross the next could be $6K. I'm over the six figure mark total income for the year. Not quite there after expenses. If I set a low salary or say $35K, what happens to the additional money if I net something like $75K? Does the $40K extra just stay in my business checking or can I pay myself a bonus? Does that have to go through payroll or do I just transfer myself the bonus?

I've found myself moving into online workshops and consultation. Anyone else do this?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 04:37 PM PDT

I have discovered that I have a specialized knowledge that people find valuable so I am now trying to figure out how to best share this knowledge with others. I am offering online workshops/classes. People are also requesting 1:1 consultation.

In general I am offering classes through Zoom. I do this in order have an intimate class. I don't intend to offer pre-recorded videos at the moment (even though I understand that scales up more). Some of my students also want 1 on 1 instruction.

Zoom may be a fine solution for this on its own but I'm curious about any modern tools that seem optimal for this business model. For example there's the Teachable service which offers hosted streaming video options. I don't need that. There's also Thinkific--not familiar with it yet. Etc.

What tools or resources are out there optimized for what I'm doing?

Small business owners what are some microtasks you managed or want to delegate/outsource that changed your business?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 10:29 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

My partner and I took a leap of faith and started our own small marketing agency last year due to our skillset. But as the business grew, things started to break and got pretty overwhelming at times.

Instead of just doing what we are good at, that made us profitable in the first place.

We found ourselves wearing many hats, performing countless small tasks that are a time sink and causes a lot of frustration - but essential to keep the business afloat.

Things like manual data entry, growing social media followers for presence, sending timely invoices, tracking receipts of different currencies...etc.

We managed to solve some of them, such as using Zapier automation to push all our data to a CRM, a VPN bot to grow social media following and Tools like deskera that automatically converts foreign currency, does our PnL and delivers recurring invoices to our clients.

We thought we could actually help other business owners solve their problem of ease - reclaim hours through delegation, outsourcing or automating the tasks they don't want to do.

So we decided to write a book on it and need some advice writing it. (We'll give it away to those who contributed for free)

Below are some questions to help us.

    1. What are some microtasks you'd like to automate or delegate? (Needs to be a specific task so we can develop a suitable solution to it rather than generic advice)
    2. What is stopping you from doing so, and why?
    3. What are some of the microtasks that you outsourced which changed your business?

    Subreddit for your small business?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 09:38 PM PDT

I have a subreddit that I currently just use to have a place for clients to post reviews. However, I've been thinking about trying to turn it into an actual subreddit. Are there any rules against creating a subreddit to use for self-promotion of your business? I've searched through Reddit rules and haven't found any rules against, but I don't want to risk my account. Do you guys have any knowledge about the rules for creating a subreddit for your small business? Thanks for any help!

Entering family business- tips or advice from those who have experienced it

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 05:28 AM PDT

My father and his wife are three years into a small excavation business. The mostly do pads (sheds and garages), retainer walls, driveway refinishes, etc.. They've also done a couple jobs that required them to rent a full size excavator. They broke even the first year, and made a profit the second year, and this past month they doubled their profit over May of 2020. They want to grow it and there's a demand to support the growth.

My father has owned a successful business in the past, and has built/grown ventures for previous employers. So this process is not new to him.

My wife and I are very interested in becoming a part of their business. This would allow it to take the next step toward growth. My dad and I have had a few conversations about it and he's all for it.

We're getting increasingly excited about the idea but know that family and business isn't always the greatest mix.

Anyone have any tips or advice in regards to successful family business relationships?

    Thanks

How many Business Bank Accounts should I have?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 08:56 PM PDT

The two bank/credit unions are California Bank and Trust and California Coast Credit Union. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to open a checking/savings account with both at the same time. I've done some reading and was given some advice from friends/family/Reddit and some say that having multiple accounts makes tracking expenses and profits much easier while others say that it's unnecessary?

    email hosting for sole proprietorship

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 02:56 PM PDT

So I am starting to legtimize my photography business.

I have purchased a domain name. I'd like to have custom email like "me@mydomain.com" for the cheapest way possible. Gsuite seems simple and has storage abilities (I can send large google drive links, pictures to clients etc) but it's also quite pricey for someone small time like myself. I have seen stuff like fastmail, anydomain mail, mxroute etc.

Ideally I would love to be able to keep using my personal gmail address but set it up in a way where when email gets sent to "me@mydomain.com" it gets forwarded to my gmail, but I also want to be able to SEND an email from my gmail and have it say from "custom domain" email; as opposed to saying from ["me@gmail.com](mailto:"me@gmail.com)"

I know many services allow forwarding, even for free. But its the ability to send from personal inbox with custom business alias feature I am looking for.

    Many thanks

How quickly should I file my business application? Will it affect what I can write off?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 08:45 PM PDT

I am starting up a holistic healing sole proprietorship which will include reiki and crystal healing. Since I'm just getting started and am relatively early in my training I'm going to be charging very low prices and don't expect to make much money for a while.

I thought I should rush to start the business so I could write off the money I'm spending on training, the travel I'm doing for training and client visits, and the crystals I'm buying to use on clients. Is this actually necessary, or can I write these things off even before I've filed the business application?

I'm also interested in your thoughts on the name. It seems like quite a pain to file a DBA, which they're only doing by mail right now and would have to be completed before I can file the business application. I'm also not sure what I'll want my final name to be because I'm not sure of everything I'll be incorporating yet (I'm planning to just start off with the crystal and reiki healing and add as I go). I'm thinking of just calling it "[My name] Conscious Healing" for now and changing it later once I've made some progress with the business. Is there something big I might regret from doing it this way?

    Thanks a bunch!

Small business end to end software?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 08:44 PM PDT

My business does a mixture of large and small projects, maintenance and sales, and am trying to find something that can handle all that. I 'd like something for pipeline management, contacts, and an ability to transition to project management with project templates would be ideal, retaining notes, files and contact info gathered during sale stage. Bonus points for an ability to quickly see what projects are active and what the pain points are

For ref I've used Pipedrive, which was good for sales but useless on project management and Wrike which is useful for projects but not so much sales. Obviously I could use multiple solutions but then transitioning from sales to project is slower, contacts don't update across platforms etc. Thanks for reading and any suggestions!

How would you deal with threats from customers?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 04:19 PM PDT

    Hi all,

My parents have a business that they've had for almost 25 years, of which they have a stellar reputation for. Even with that great reputation, their business has greatly slowed down partly due to Covid and partly due to changes in their industry.

They recently ran into a bad customer. They've been getting dozens of calls, him yelling/swearing, and even a threat. Sadly, he seemed shady from the start, but my parents' business was (and is) in a precarious situation with its slowdown, and needed the sale.

I told them to take the item back, and return the money to him...even though they don't have to (i.e. the item was inspected by a 3rd party technician beforehand, was in great working order when it left our warehouse, and we have a "no return policy" (quite common in this industry).

My mom is quite shaken by the experience - they've never had a situation like this before. I'm wondering what you guys think, and how you would handle something like this.

    Claw Machine questions

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 03:49 PM PDT

    Greetings,

I want to start a claw machine business, where I buy claw machines and place them in restaurants and stores around my area. I have heard things about needing a business permit and license before I can officially and legally do this, but want to know if anyone here has ventured into this kind of territory, and what is required before I can start placing my machines in these places and making a profit.
