    Deloitte Compensation Thread 2021

Since compensation officially (not using the 401k trick) either came out today or tomorrow on TalentonDemand I figured I'd start the thread. You know the drill:

    1. Service line

    2. Office/Region/Approximate COL

    3. Former Level -> Current Level

    4. Former Salary -> Current Salary

    5. Scatterplot position [1]

    6. AIP/Bonus/other comp

[1] Scatterplots are an XY axis grid of you versus your peers based on 2 questions asked to your supervisors on engagements: 1) Based on what I know of this person's performance and if it were my money, I would award this person the highest possible compensation increase and bonus. 2) Based on what I know of this person's performance, I would always want this person on my team.

    POV: Staff Accountant WFH

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:39 AM PDT

You've just been assigned to utilize an automation to map client requests to working papers. You follow instructions, but there is an error you don't know how to fix. You ask your senior, who tells you to ask your fellow associates (who have no idea). You end up asking 10+ people, all of who tell you to ask someone else.

You've been asked to do something you've never done before by a manager, but are given no coaching. If you don't figure it out then you're "not meeting expectations". Nobody is willing to help you.

This happens in one way or another nearly every day in public accounting. Am I just on a bad team? I really can't keep doing this every day.

How likely am I to get into Big 4 with a referral?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:28 PM PDT

I am currently at a small-ish regional and someone I know is getting me in contact with a recruiter at KPMG. He is in tax and I'm in audit but he received a full time offer (starting in August). I started full time at my regional firm in January and do not have a CPA, although I have begun studying. Do I have good odds?

    Question on capital gains

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:12 PM PDT

Is there any difference, tax wise, for selling my real estate property in 2021 and in 2022?

Is it the same as if I sell both in 2021? Is there any advantage for me splitting them up by the year?

    HELP

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:19 PM PDT

A company that produces a single product using a continuous process had no work in process on April 1. During the month of April, 10,000 units were started and 9,000 completed units were transferred. The ending work-in-process inventory was complete as to materials and 50% complete as to conversion. The cost of direct materials was $114,000, and the cost of direct labor amounted to $38,000. Manufacturing overhead is assigned at the rate of 50% of direct materials. For the purpose of determining the cost of goods manufactured in April, what is the cost per equivalent whole unit? ANSWER IS $21.40 I have no idea how to do that math, a little help and explanation please!

CA 150 credit education requirement clarification

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:33 PM PDT

If I have all the required classes in this sheet provided by the CBA here:

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/applicants/tip_sheet.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwj-n8r_mvrwAhUlJTQIHXCZCJQQFjAJegQIJBAC&usg=AOvVaw1UnPlRGJn9EtMcjzGK5rHY&cshid=1622680260058

They list 78 units required. The rest of my credits can be in any class whatsoever right? It could be art classes as long as it gets me to 150?

    Feeling discouraged with job move

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:12 PM PDT

A couple months ago, I left big 4 audit after approx 2 years to work in TAS at a top 10 MM firm. I'm starting to feel like maybe I made a mistake...as painful as audit was, it was challenging and I was always learning. TAS so far hasn't made me feel the same way and I'm worried about career advancement and what skills I'm picking up/what my next move after TAS May be. Has anyone ever made this switch or felt like this after a career move? I fear I may end up "boomeranging" lol

I received a call for an interview for a Staff Auditor position, and I wondered what I should do to prepare for the interview. My current occupation is Universal Banker, and I am studying for the CPA exam. What questions are usually asked?

Is IT Audit at risk of being automated?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 02:45 PM PDT

I've heard it's considered more boring than audit and tax, but I'm not sure if that means less complex.

I know you pigeon-hole yourself into it, but the pay potential seems comfortable and I've heard it's less busy than tax/audit.

That said, I'm not sure if it has long-term potential.
