    Dog bite and homeowners insurance(OK)

    Posted: 03 May 2021 03:34 PM PDT

    Location is Oklahoma

A month ago my dog bit a neighbor, she reached down and called to him and he bit her. He was on a leash. It was terrible, I was a mess, things were not great. She was hospitalized. She has health insurance and got the care she needed. Animal control followed up and nobody got in any trouble. She is a great neighbor and I don't want her to be in a bad spot, especially given the magnitude of the injuries she sustained and the likely huge bills coming her way (said they have an 80% coverage plan?).

Only recently I heard I need to contact my insurance. I have a homeowners policy though Geico/Homesite Indemnity Company. I have $100k personal liability and only $1k medical payments to others.

I didn't realize I needed to contact my homeowners insurance, is this correct? I have no idea what to expect. What can happen to me? Could I be on the hook? Do companies still want to insure me after this claim?

Please help me random internet strangers.

Lower amount of miles per yer due to working from home.

    Posted: 04 May 2021 03:25 AM PDT

    California Auto Insurance. - Mercury.

I mentioned to my rep that I have been working from home for the past year and expected to continue to work from home. In regards to miles driven a year, I was at 17,000.

Since working from home I now drive / forecasting 5,400 miles a year, and wanted for her to adjust the amount (this was a couple of months ago).

She said she would submit the change and I believed her ;) now I am looking at my renewal docs and she only adjusted it down to 14,000/yr.

I am assuming she probably gets commission % based on dollar amount? and she was not willing to drop the miles down? or is there some low miles limit that insurance providers might have? (giving her the benefit of the doubt).

Does insurance cover wrap on cars?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 04:28 AM PDT

I got rear ended a few days ago, my car is totaled, the other car is 100% liable. We have witnesses and he was given a citation. My car was 3 series bmw that I had for less than a year. I wrapped it matte grey, M front bumper on, and powder coated the rims, carbon fiber spoiler and side mirror protectors, and tinted the windows.

Anyone have any idea if any of this stuff is covered by insurance (more specifically the wrap since that is pretty pricey and the bumper)? Will the at faults driver be forced to pay for those upgrades?

Disclaimer, I did not report any changes to my vehicle to my insurance before the accident. So for all they know my car is still white and I've made no modifications.

Turning 19 in August and have no clue what to do about health/dental/vision insurance (Florida)

    Posted: 04 May 2021 04:17 AM PDT

I currently have Medicaid/Prestige, but I've been having problems with it lately. With this insurance you can only go to a limited number of providers. The few that are available either have really bad reviews or no appointments open for quite some time which isn't great because I need to be prescribed medicine. I believe you age out of Medicaid at 19, so I'd have to have new coverage anyway.

I'm also moving in August for college, so I probably wouldn't be able to qualify for any insurance offered by potential employers.

I decided that I probably just need to get a part time job and use a good portion of it on insurance. I'm looking for a plan or company that includes vision, dental, and health, but it all seems kind of confusing. I genuinely have no idea where to start. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Need to replace my car's bumper - should I submit a claim?

    Posted: 03 May 2021 10:01 AM PDT

I just tore my front bumper off 75% and looks like I'll need to have it replaced (see my other recent posts for a fun video).

Been calling around to autobody shops and I'm being quoted $1500-1600 for parts and labor for a bumper replacement. That does *not* take into account the potential for further damage to things like sensors, etc. so this number could go up. I'll have to take it in to have it fully assessed.

Regardless, my deductible for collision is $1,000. My instinct is that if the repair is only $1500, I shouldn't submit a claim and I should just pay for it myself, because I'll end up paying more in an increased premium than the $500 I would have covered for the claim. I know to some extent this is incalculable since you don't know what your rate increase will be until you submit (though would love to be proven wrong!) but I live in CA and I've been reading a lot here about how the premiums jump wildly after an accident.

Thoughts? If you wouldn't submit a claim if it's only $1500 to fix, at what point *would* you submit?

Will insurance cover paint blending and other expensive / over the top repairs relayed to a half inch door scratch?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 12:37 AM PDT

A beautiful classic car made the mistake of parking next to me and my kid. Of course when we left the grocery store and loaded into the car our car door swung out and made a perfect half inch scratch in the paint job on the front door of the pristine classic car. We made sure to wait for the owner and exchanged info. A day later and he's forwarded a fee estimate from a shop for $3,500, and the estimate includes removing the rear and front bumpers, panels, roof and all windows / mirrors / antenna. The estimate says about 7 hours of time to actually repair the ding in the door and repair that and then an additional FORTY (yes 40) hours of time to remove all the other parts from surrounding panels and the roof and front windshield, and then time to blend paint all those panels (including panels on the other side of the car (!!!)). This seems absolutely ridiculous to me and I'm not sure what to do. I plan to call the shop tomorrow to get the estimate for just the work to repair the scratch and paint the door and then try to offer the guy that amount in cash. If he declines I'll have to run it through insurance but I'm genuinely curious if insurance would even cover that kind of repair job. I'm located in CA and have State Farm.

    Insurance Company Nonresponsive

    Posted: 03 May 2021 08:14 PM PDT

My neighbor's car destroyed my landscaping. I got an estimate for around $20K to repair the damage. It was a legit quote from a tree guy who we didn't know.

So a week ago, I get a message from the insurance company. They told me that they have issued a payment for around $4000. I tried to reach them and they are not responding.

So maybe I need to give them more time but I'm wondering what the best course of action is. What if they stand on their lowball estimate?

COVID-19 and Health Insurance Paying an "Administration Fee" -- Will This Show Up Anywhere?

    Posted: 03 May 2021 11:11 PM PDT

Sorry for the vague title above, but its mostly because I am quite uneducated on how it is to be the holder of a health insurance policy. Essentially, my question is quite simple -- here is the context. My girlfriend comes from a strict anti-vax family, but she wants to get the free vaccine at a pharmacy nearby. She is under her mother's healthcare policy, and her mother would absolutely unleash hell if she found out her daughter has gotten vaccinated.

Here is where our concern plays in -- since neither of us have ever held an insurance policy, we have no idea how this will appear on her mother's "bill", if we receive a "bill" at all, or if the usage history of the insurance will somehow reveal to her mother that my girlfriend got vaccinated without her knowledge. I am well aware that it is a free procedure at our local pharmacy, but I also know that there is an administration fee that is billed to insurance providers. Perhaps some sort of notification would arrive to her when she receives the invoice?

So, Reddit, is there any way that my girlfriend's mom can see that she got vaccinated without her knowing, via their health insurance invoices (regardless of it being free)? Urgent help would be much appreciated, as her and my family both want her, us, and others to be safer. Thanks for your help, hope someone out there might know.

Prorated settlement offer with total loss

    Posted: 03 May 2021 10:36 PM PDT

Hi all. My car was hit while parked as a result of an accident between two other vehicles. There is no question of who was at fault. The damage was primarily to the front left fender and a small dent on the door. Car still drives fine etc. The car is 20 years old (I'm the only owner) but was in good shape with only 70k miles. Valued at around $3500. The bid to repair was around $2500. I do not have collision coverage on this car. Anyhow, the company insuring the at fault driver has deemed this to be a total loss however due to the insured only having $5K coverage and multiple vehicles damaged they will only pay me $1200.

I understand I will not get more than the $1200 from the insurance company however is there any way I can prevent the car from getting a salvage title? I was planning on having the fender fixed but not worrying about some of the other light damage (Eg dent in door, blending in paint on door and hood, etc). Even having to pay a few hundred bucks out of pocket would be worth it but I am concerned about dealing with the salvaged title on top of that. I hope to keep the car for two more years. I would really like to avoid the salvage title... it really is cosmetic damage (confirmed by auto body shop). If they were paying me the full value I would just take it and walk away. But for 1/3 of the value I'd like to keep it.

Any suggestions about how to avoid the salvage title but still get the prorated $1200 settlement offer so I can fix the car?

Water damage leads to mold damage.

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:19 PM PDT

Had our water heater crap out last weekend. Spent a week drying it with Servpro.

Another company came through to check for damages to start on repairs. (Servpro was out 4 to 5 weeks. )

Well they found damages Servpro never addressed or looked for. Now we have mold starting under out kitchen cabinets.

Restoration company said that its going to mean replacing pretty much our kitchen cabinets because he wouldn't just replace one. He'd never find like for like.

Now I'm trying to deal with the stress. I left my insurance adjuster a voice-mail. Contractor will call them tomorrow also.

I'm just venting. But can anyone give me advice of what to do now? Just look for the replacement tiles and cabinets? What will my insurance fight me on

    Business analysis or Actuarial science

    Posted: 03 May 2021 08:30 PM PDT

I will graduate this spring, major in math, minor in actuarial science. I have 1soa exam passed, but no any experience, no internship also. I have been nervous recently after I've spent time on job market, now plan to enrolled in master program. So, the question comes out, I can't decided which major should I choose? I've looked at Act Sci and business analysis. Both of them are pretty good, I want to go actuarial path since I have taken 3 classes as minor, but their degree plan without programming, and programming like sql, python, ect. is a trend eventually. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much.

Getting Homeowners Insurance on a New Purchase

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:35 PM PDT

Florida (North Central). Investment property, rented, getting a mortgage, but not escrowing for insurance.

When buying a house, if the roof is nearly end of life but not there yet (3-4 years says a roofer), do I have to worry about getting a binder for HO then after the close getting inspected by the insurance company and them cancelling the policy?

Basically, if this is an uninsurable roof this year (we'd replace it in the next 2ish years), would we find out before we get a binder and go to close on the property?

    minor car accident

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:34 PM PDT

    EDIT: 2006 Nissan Sentra 142352 miles 1.8 s 4dr Automatic

I got hit while driving straight and a car ran a stop sign and almost t-boned me well he hit my rear left tire and he bent the tire a little, I'm assuming most of the damages are behind the tire which is axle bearing and whatnot. no cosmetic damage though.

Insurance already got him 100% at fault. I have gone to a few shops to get it checked out, they just giving me a ball park of 300-900 damages without looking thoroughly.

I was actually looking to sell this car and now this happened. Do you think it's a good idea to just ask the insurance company to write it off than repairing it?

I'd be happy if they paid me 1500 and sent me on my way.

    INSURANCE COVERAGE QUESTION

Hello, I hope everyone is having a nice afternoon. I'm not sure if anyone can help me but here goes. I was in a really bad accident about 2 weeks ago, hospitalized for almost a week &still going thru dr visits +phys therapy. I've never looked thru my policy &what it covers, (pls don't shame me) but I'm with progressive under a liability policy in Ohio. I'm reading my policy &It is only showing what it covers for the other driver (yes I know what liability means) but my concern is am I not covered in terms of bodily injury, as a driver? I understand my vehicle is not. To specify as well, I am not a policy holder, just listed as a driver. I tried to call my local agent &he says i am an "insured driver" and I am "under the policy" but on the policy info paper it only states "insured driver" by the policyholder's name &lists me as a driver. My local agent keeps telling me to call the insurance adjuster for the specific info concerning my coverage but I think he's just trying to get me off the phone. Also stating I was not at fault of the accident but police did not assign fault to anyone. My family tried finding cameras from buildings at the intersection but with no luck :/

Grateful for any help understanding any of this!

Advice moving forward after a fire?

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:00 PM PDT

Long story short, we had a fire on the 29th. We've had my grandfather's old RV parked besides the house for 20+ years and that caught fire Thursday night. Thanks to our neighbors, the fire department arrived quickly and we were unharmed and they were able to contain the fire and save ours and a neighbor's homes aside from some minor damages.

Our biggest issue is that our electric meter was on that side of the house and was burned in the process so we can't reconnect the power until we pull a permit to get the meter and main wire replaced and get that inspected. It usually wouldn't be an issue for me and my father to live out of coolers for a couple weeks, but my grandmother is 81yo on about 8-10 medications for her heart and blood pressure and all of that and can't handle the heat here in Florida.

We do have a small generator that we borrowed that we can run at night to at least run some fans running and be a little more comfortable, but she's constantly worried about the generator and extension cords being dangerous and the fan being too loud. And she's a stubborn old lady who doesn't want to go to a relative's house because she wants to be close by to handle her bills and stuff, as if that matters right now over her health. We're worried she could end up getting dizzy in the heat and hurting herself and we really can't afford to have her in the hospital right now with everything else going on.

My uncle suggested we call Red Cross and they thankfully did come and provide her with a $500 card so we were able to get her a hotel room for the week and some food/drinks so at least she's out of the house for now and comfortable. The hotel isn't even a mile away so I stay with her over the night and return home to help my father with the house.

But we're not sure what else to do. The insurance is still inspecting everything and now they've put up a paper on our fence saying it's an active investigation and to not remove the RV because it may be considered evidence. We're gonna call them tomorrow and try to explain the situation and see if there's anything they can do, but God knows how long it could take for them to finish their investigations and actually pay out on the insurance so we can afford an electrician.

A friend recommended we get a written estimate from an electrician and they may expedite that amount if we explain there's an elderly woman living in the home and we called around to a bunch of local electricians and found a couple that seem promosing and offer free estimates, but they won't be able to come out until Friday or Monday and told us to call back on Friday.

So we've been trying to find further assistance for her in an attempt to get the power turned on as quickly as possible, but there hasn't been hugely successful yet. We'll try calling more places tomorrow after we call the insurance and visit a couple local offices Wednesday.

Worst case scenario, we'll have to force her to go to a relative's house for a week or two after we leave the hotel, but I'm trying to post in an attempt to get some advice maybe on steps people may know that could help expedite this to at least get the electricity turned back on. We've never been in this sort of situation so it's all a little overwhelming and we don't know where to turn.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Sorry if this isn't the right sub for this sort of thing.

    Car Insurance Issue/Confusion

    Posted: 03 May 2021 03:59 PM PDT

I got into an accident recently, i was rear ended and deemed not at fault. My car didn't look too bad but i was told it is most likely a total loss ever since i contacted insurance. They picked up the car and took it to their claim centre and i got a call saying "we've reached a settlement to end your lease and mailed the check, you have 3 days to return your rental by law as a result" so i returned my rental assuming everything was over. I deposited and signed on a new car because i was told it is a total loss and i'm free to move on. Fast forward 4 days and i get a text and email saying "your repairs have been approved for $5000, they will take 6 days." I contact insurance and they say the appraiser rechecked and said it's repairable but it's written off on my end and the car is gone from me. What does this mean? Do I have anything to worry about in the sense that the old car gets fixed and returned as i've already basically gotten into a new car?

Car totaled but title isn’t under my name

    Posted: 03 May 2021 07:44 PM PDT

Last week I was at a no fault accident, in which resulted in my vehicle being declared a total loss. I had purchased the vehicle from my friend, but didn't have the title so he was going to find a way of getting it signed over to me. The title is still under his name, so will I get no money out of the loss, will they accept it if he signs it over? Any help will do. If it helps I live in Texas, insurance doing the work is USAA, and the car is payed off

Is there still a chance to change our policy back? "Error of Omission"

    Posted: 03 May 2021 12:55 PM PDT

My mother was involved in a three car wreck and is in hot water. We always had 100,000 per person and 300,000 of bodily injury coverage. However, when she switched to coverage to another state: the coverage was 25,000 and 50,000 of bodily coverage.

From my understanding she never wanted any less coverage. She just picked up this insurance days before the accident, just a week ago.

This is very unfortunate as she is now looking to being past her insurance limits. I need to know if there was any steps we can take or how she can cover herself. She's the only person taking care of her brother and mother.

need help am i entitled to respond??

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:59 PM PDT

so i was driving my gf's car the other day and while parking very slightly hit another car. got out and saw some scratches on my girls car and didn't even notice anything on the other persons car. the owner of the other car came out, and showed me some minimal scratching (against a white car so looked like a texture). i asked to pay for it and she refused and said it was fine and wouldn't take my number. i felt bad so i left my number on a paper and put it in her car. she just now messaged me (about four days after) and is saying it's a whopping 900$ repair and i should pay half. i don't know if i'm crazy but i know for a fact it's impossible that those minimal scratches was 900$. i would not like to get insurance involved. however, she has my number and it would be very easy to ignore it- but would that be charged as a hit and run? will i get cops at my door?? literally don't know what to do

she DOES NOT HAVE MY INSURANCE. only my number.

    Correct answer to unrelated questions?

    Posted: 03 May 2021 02:59 PM PDT

My vehicle was legally parked by a shopping center, at the curb, near my residence. Estimate guy from insurance asked multiple times if I went home when it was hit and run-ed.

Was "I do not recall, as it was so very long since I turned in my claim" the incorrect answer?

Does my distance from the vehicle attract danger in the eyes of an insurer or is this question benign?
