Posted: 03 Feb 2021 03:08 PM PST So I have dental insurance through my employer. It's the Delta dental PPO plan. The insurance paperwork that my employer gave me says that my insurance covers 80% of endodontic treatment and I'm responsible for the other 20%. I desperately need a root canal on a molar. My dentist is in-network and he submitted a pre-op to my insurance. He charges $1,700 for a root canal. The insurance approved it for $660. Out of that $660, the insurance is picking up the tab for $488. Leaving me responsible for $172. All good. However, my dentist is telling me that not only do I have to pay the $172, but I'm also responsible for the $1,040 that the insurance isn't covering for the price he charges. For a total of $1,212 out of my pocket. My wife tells me he's double dipping and that what he's doing is illegal. She wants me to find a new dentist and endodontist in my insurance network to do the root canal. Is this the case? Any advice and feedback is greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻 thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:51 AM PST Being 26, I'm not too deep into health insurance know how I guess. My wife and I are on my plan, which is an HDHP $3000 deductible plan with $1500 in HSA money between the two of us my company gave us. The issue is, due to a bad spat of health for my wife, she's already met her $3000 deductible but I haven't (we have individual deductibles since I don't have health issues as she does). I'm thinking of changing jobs that'd give me a massive salary bump that I'm not sure my employer is would be willing to match. So my question is, can I keep my insurance? If so, is it wise too? Withy wife already having met the deductible hard to pass up since I know she'll have other medical bills but I don't know how employers and ex-employees usually handle this. Any help is appreciated before I announce the job change I live and work in US, Indiana, better or for worse [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:53 PM PST So the catalytic converter got stolen off one of my older cars that I don't drive often, I called insurance to tell them but knew I didn't have coverage for that so didn't file a claim (the lady also said filing a claim was somewhat pointless). ABut in that same phone call, I immediately switched my two newer vehicles to full coverage because cat thefts have been insane where I live lately. Literally two days later the catalytic converter was stolen off my truck which I had JUST switched to full coverage insurance. So I call and make a claim and file a police report. Well not they transferred my claim to SIU (Special Investigations Unit) where to investigate potentially fraudulent claims. I spoke to the guy on the phone and he explained how it makes it seem like it was stolen at an earlier date since I never filed a claim on the first car then just switched the vehicles to full coverage then bam my other cat was stolen. Why would I have filed the first claim when it isn't covered? And the original theft pushed me to get the full coverage immediately. He also said he talked to the police and they did tell him how cat thefts have been insane lately in my area. I sent the SIU guy the receipts from getting it fixed as well as two screenshots from my ring doorbell where you can see a light being shone on my truck the night of the theft, that usually wouldn't be there. It's not great pictures or anything but it's all I have. So what do I do? I'm scared I'll be accused of fraud because I don't have video footage. But geez what did people do before they had cameras on their houses and stuff?? Should I just cut my losses and withdraw the claim so I don't potentially get accused of fraud? I'm kind of freaking out a little so any advice would be awesome. Thank you. Also I have no idea if this is the correct place to post this so apologies! [link] [comments] |
How much liability coverage for Jet Ski? Posted: 03 Feb 2021 07:00 PM PST I'm leaning toward 100/300 just because it's not terribly expensive. Any reason to go higher or lower than this? Will be on a busy lake. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:05 PM PST I had a Hit-and-Basically-Run where the guy pulled over, I asked for his insurance information and in broken english he said something about he'd have to ask his brother. He was probably 19 years old. Two other kids same age in the car they all began speaking in spanish to each other and said we'll pay you for the damage. I said I need some kind of information so he gave me his phone number, which I verified on the spot was real, and I snapped a photo of his car and license plate. All I could do before they piled back in and promised to talk by phone to pay for it as they drove off. There was no damage to his car, my car has estimates about $1,200 to repair. I'm nervous about calling my insurance company about "what is the process if this guy just ignores me" because then it's documented. But now I'm like, if I wait a couple more days, it probably looks worse from an insurance standpoint. Any advice? My thinking is I'll try him again and say hey you better get back to me or I'll have to file a police report, I have your number and car license plate. Can't imagine the police care but I might have to in order for my insurance company to cover it anyway. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2021 04:00 AM PST It happened almost two months ago while at work. My car window was broken into, my wallet was found and stolen along with Airpods Pro and a few other valuables. I drove the car with broken window home to my garage, where it has been since. I took a couple pics that day. The car is still in the same condition as that day. EDIT: in CA Can I still make a claim with AAA even though it's been a couple months? I figured I'd ask here before I call them up. [link] [comments] |
Are you allowed to buy an insurance policy in film then sub-sell it for a fee? Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:05 PM PST Someone said they can provide insurance for a project I may be doing but it feels fishy. Are you allowed to "Sub-sell" your insurance policy? They are charging me $500 for it instead of $1500 which the actual insurance company would charge for 2 days [link] [comments] |
Truck Hit My Parked Car in NYC Posted: 03 Feb 2021 08:51 PM PST I live in NYC and was parallel parked on the street . The next day I went to my car to discover someone had crashed into the front of my car. Long story short I asked around and have security camera footage that shows a pickup backing into front of my Toyota Prius. It caused a lot of damage. The front hood is popped up at the hinges and front bumper is cracked in the front middle, more on the top of the hood because the truck had a tow hitch ball and is higher off the ground. I have not moved my car ever since. Videos show truck driver getting out after impact, seeing the damage, return to his truck, and backing into a house driveway. He left me no note or anything. I went to that house and asked if they can check their cameras. The lady that answered the door insisted that her cameras will not show anything and did not even want to help me. This was suspicious to me because any other person would be willing to help. And because the truck backed up into the house's driveway, I suspect that the driver lives there, and that the lady knows about the accident and is protecting someone. In the following days, I was able to get more and more security camera footage, but none give me a clear license plate. I'm only able to make out 1-2 characters max. Still asking around for footage, but I think they will probably show blurry license plates as well. I was able to see a truck with matching characteristics at the house's driveway, but looks like they removed their license plate, so I can't get any pictures of it. I don't want to approach them again because the lady told me to get off her property, and that me approaching her is harassment and illegal. I called the police officer who filed my report that same day I discovered the damage, and told him what the video shows. Officer told me that they don't investigate property damage that does not involve injury to a person. So what am I supposed to do if I can't approach the house, and the cops won't approach them for me! I need to get the license so that the police can run the owner's info and give me their insurance information. A body shop gave me a rough estimate of $2,500 (who knows what other damage they'll discover); my insurance deductible is $1,000. But I won't be reimbursed if I can't get the driver's info! I can provide more details, just ask me! thanks for any advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2021 08:32 PM PST Between Medi Cal of Santa Clara County and private insurance through Covered CA, if paying premium and copay is not an issue, then which option gives access to better network of doctors, incl. Stanford hospital with no run abouts or delays in seeing a specialist for a senior 80+ years old. Also what is the difference between covered CAs platinum, gold, silver and bronze plans of different providers. I see an estimated expenditure. Does it mean that every private isurance has an upper limit on maximum amount that will be covered or maximum number of visits or prescription that will be covered? So if I were to take the cheapest premium option and if the covered person were to be hospitalized with $500k expenses, apart from the deductible and out of pocket, would they cover the rest of it or would there be an upper limit on medical bills that are covered each year. Question about insuring a probated car. Posted: 03 Feb 2021 08:02 PM PST My father-in-law recently passed away [PA] and my wife (who was the only child) is set to inherit his paid off car. Auto claim started, wanting to refinance Posted: 03 Feb 2021 07:40 PM PST I recently decided to refinance my car for a better rate, but not before starting a claim on my car for some hail damage. It's not that bad IMO. Good news is that they should be able to repair without painting. I've only gotten as far as getting a quote. But, I'm wondering if I should go through with the claim and wait to refinance or the other way around? I'm thinking the refinance company may decide to give me a lower rate? This is my first time going through both so 🤷♀️ Please be gentle lol. Thoughts? I live in Arkansas. [link] [comments] |
Waiting game for potential job Posted: 03 Feb 2021 07:17 PM PST So on Jan. 4 I received an email from Allstate about how they received my application to WFH. By Jan 6. I was invited to do a self paced phone interview. Jan 8. I completed a virtual and they sent a email confirming that they received it. On Jan 11. I got another email that started off with, "Hi, Your application has been identified as a potential candidate"...for the position. And all that they needed me to send a screenshot of a speed test and my bill showing the upload/download speeds. My deadline to send that in was the 12th at 6pm. I sent it in on the 11th, the same evening I received the email. I haven't heard back since. Even after sending a follow up email on Feb 1st. stating I was still interested. The job training begins in 2-3 weeks but ....like hello???? What's happening? Has this happened to anyone else? [link] [comments] |
Question on cancelling FR-44 insurance after 3 years DUI in Maryland Posted: 03 Feb 2021 10:07 AM PST (I was told to repost this here from r/dui so this a copy/paste!) Hi! My dad had a DUI 3 years ago. He was required to pay for FR-44 insurance for three years (which passed yesterday) but we didn't receive any notification or response that it was possible for us to cancel it. It's a bit worrying since, if he cancels it prematurely, he could lose his license (which he really needs since the area he lives in isn't very commuter-friendly) so we're very hesitant and want to make sure everything will be alright. I've tried calling the Motor Vehicle Administration (of Maryland) but I was redirected six times (I went to the same department twice) and the last person eventually gave me a phone number to a DUI department and told me to call it---but no one picked up. It's been about 2-3 hours now and no one can answer the question and there's no resource online that can confirm that it's fine for my dad to stop paying for FR-44. Half of the phone numbers on their website are either full or disconnected and, the last time I tried, I was redirected so I'm not sure where to go or what to do at this point. Could anyone provide any advice on this? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
What type of liability insurance can I get for campsite w/structures Posted: 03 Feb 2021 06:35 PM PST I purchased land to use as a seasonal campsite with a shed on it. I plan to add more outbuildings in the near future. My only problem has been finding a way to insure it. I don't have homeowners or rental insurance(I live full time in an RV). The property is in a different state then my home state. I would like to at least have liability coverage. Vacant land policies are ineligible because there are structures. Is there a special policy I can get? Is it possible to get a homeowners policy for it because eventually I might build a cabin? Thanks Edit: State is Washington [link] [comments] |
1 year mandatory higher Insurance payment on All New Vehicles? Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:33 PM PST Hello, I bought a new vehicle recently and State Farm told me that there is a mandatory set amount on all new vehicles that I have to pay, regardless of my driving history and what not. This is very high for what I thought it should be. Is this actually a thing or was the lady just talking out of her rear end and I am just getting screwed on rates? For reference my state is MN if that changes anything. Should I expect my rate to go down to a normal level after a year of ownership? Right now it is like $50-60 a month over what a much more expensive 2019 model would have been for me. [link] [comments] |
[Canada/Ontario] Condo Insurance - Contingency Coverage Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:59 PM PST Hi everyone, I read my insurance policy for my condo and noticed this clause for contingencies. We will pay for damage to your premises if the Condominium Corporation has no insurance, its insurance is inadequate, or it is not effective. By Condominium Corporation, we mean a condominium or strata corporation and in Quebec the meeting of co-proprietors, established under provincial legislation. Without increasing the amount of this coverage, we will also pay that portion of the insured loss to your unit made necessary by a deductible in the insurance policy of the Condominium Corporation and for which you are responsible. However if the cause of the loss is an earthquake we will limit our payment to $2,500 I'm not sure I understand this correctly. I have a $75K condo corporation deductible for Sewer Back-up Claims. If the condo corporation determines I am at fault and makes me pay the deductible - can I use my contingency coverage in this scenario? My friend says contingencies are only used if I the condo corporation coverage is not sufficient so I ma confused. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Feb 2021 11:12 AM PST Hi, awhile ago I had to resign from work. I had a work injury and was on benefits from them for a time. But I made the mistake of not wording my disability well. I said ," I can't walk on my right leg at all", but I meant it hurts a lot when I do. But because I worded it that way to the work doctor, when their investigator followed me with a cam and filmed me walking (still in pain but walking nonetheless), they gave me the option of going to court or settling. I settled. Despite this, is it still possible to file for disability due to intense pain and unable to work, or because I settled with work, that's not an option anymore? Any help would be great. My Parked Car Just Got Hit But I Waived My Collision Coverage...Am I Outta Luck? Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:42 PM PST I drive a used 2007 Toyota with 120K+ miles and live in California. When I bought the car, it had significant cosmetic damage to the bumper and since then has incurred several other smaller damages as a result of minor incidents (theft, vandalism). Mechanically, it's a good, reliable car that gets me to and from work. It isn't pretty but it gets the job done. I understand that there are certain risks to living in a dense urban environment and parking on the street and I accept those risks. And for that reason, I waived my collision coverage. That is to say, I devote all my insurance money towards protecting others who may be involved in an accident in which I am at-fault, but none on protecting my own car because I know mine is just one small accident from being totaled. And that's what exactly happened--I heard a uncomfortable crunch this morning, stepped outside and saw that two cars had gotten into an accident and one swerved into my car, which was parked on the street. One of the cars completely crunched the lefthand side, even causing part of my side bumper to fall off. I tried to open the door but it won't open. Given the age and condition of my car, I'm certain that it's toast at this point. I submitted my claim to Geico and acknowledged that I do not have collision coverage for my old, beat-up car. Am I just outta luck in this situation, or would the at-fault driver's insurance cover part of my totaled car? Sorry if the answer is clear...I'm just shook up from the situation and trying to come to terms with the fact that I'll likely be sharing a car with my spouse now. [link] [comments] |
Hit and run coverage New Jersey Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:40 PM PST I was the victim in a hit and run about two weeks ago in New Jersey. I was making a left turn and the person behind me crossed double yellow and tried to speed past me and hit the front corner of my car and then took off, there was a witness who saw the car take off and I called the cops immediately and told him what happened. I also made a claim with my insurance company Progressive. I only have liability and the New Jersey required underinsured/uninsured motorists coverage. All research I have done has said this coverage will cover the hit and run but my insurance claim agent has told me twice that it is not covered and that the under/uninsured coverage can only be used if they knew the other driver and knew they were uninsured/underinsured. Am I SOL or is the agent misinformed? [link] [comments] |
