A car hit my townhouse, owner won't fix it [Missouri] Posted: 31 Oct 2020 12:15 PM PDT Several weeks ago, a car plowed into the front of our rental townhouse, knocking a wall in and punching a large hole in the entryway, while also causing significant damage to the exterior brickwork. It's been almost two months and they haven't fixed it, other than some bracing and a quick patch of the hole. I called the owner and was told that Progressive only offered them a $1000 settlement, and until they have the claim settled and paid, they can't do the repairs (costing at least $10,000.) They claim that if they fix the wall now, Progressive won't pay them anything. Is this true? What can I do about this? [link] [comments] |
Should I get a public adjuster involved in my home insurance claim? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 01:21 AM PDT Hello, I have water damage at my property and the insurance is giving me a hard time with it. When should I get a public adjuster involved with my claim? I live in CA by the way! Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 06:45 AM PDT I live in NYC, I was told by CityMD and Oxford after calling them that these were covered. Both claims now have an A4 code: CORRECTING COINSURANCE/COPAY TAKEN. Can anyone with experience reassure me? [link] [comments] |
How do adjusters determine preexisting damage to a vehicle before an accident? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 11:43 AM PDT Rear ended this at the store. Driver admitted fault but his insurance is claiming both at fault. In the case they want me to also pay to his bumper repaired, how do adjusters determine if damage was before/after an accident. It's an old car and I suspect he'll try to claim previous damage as part of today's fender-bender. [link] [comments] |
Does your marital status affect your auto insurance premiums? [Wisconsin] Posted: 31 Oct 2020 11:25 PM PDT We added my brother(married) to our policy in early September and paid the corresponding fee. However, a letter from the insurance company came in two days ago, asking for $200 for the change of my brother's marital status, we are now confused, why did they wait so long to charge us for that? Could it have been a mistake? [link] [comments] |
Would I be able to take my Auto Insurance to Small Claims Court for this? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 08:49 PM PDT This is a little bit of a confusing story but I will try to explain it as simply as possible. I had an incident where something from a tree during a storm cracked my back window and damaged a back pillar. My Auto Insurance company totaled the car out with the option that I can buy it back at a set price and fix on my own... which I did. During this process they found out that rain somehow got in between the rails and flooded my carpet which needed replacement. At first, the insurance company said I can file a separate claim for this which I was okay with but then they back tracked and said it was denied because it was related to the original claim. My issue with this situation is their adjuster never let me know about this carpet issue, which cost me an additional $1500. If I knew upfront about this additional cost I may have decided to just buy a new car instead of fixing it. I feel like they were liable to let me know the exact damage of the car before I made a decision of buying it back. They are saying they are not responsible because it was totaled out. I'm just curious if I have any recourse for this, I am located in the United States (NYC). Thanks for any help. [link] [comments] |
Enterprise Rent a Car randomly filed a claim on my Geico car insurance. Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:50 PM PDT Hello everyone, I had a weird thing happen recently that has left me utterly confused. I went on my Geico car insurance account, and noticed that there was a new claim randomly filed under my name that I was unaware of. I haven't filed a claim since my last accident in 2015, so I was concerned. I called a Geico rep, and he told me that Enterprise Rent a car filed a claim under my name and insurance for a wrecked rental car. After speaking to him more, I learned that this accident happened in a car I've never driven, in a state I've never been to... (I live in Massachusetts, and this accident happened in Texas. Plus, I have only used Enterprise once, and that was in 2013...) I told the rep that this had nothing to do with me, and I had no idea where this came form. Has anyone ever had to deal with this before? It is pretty concerning, and the rep was pretty unhelpful... [link] [comments] |
Disability insurance questions Posted: 31 Oct 2020 08:14 PM PDT I have a self-diagnosed serious degenerative musculoskeletal condition that I'm certain of due to the history and symptoms. However, for 15 years, it has remained in such an early stage that there is minimal definitive imaging evidence, and I've never had a firm diagnosis. Where I left off trying half a decade ago, I could not get a doctor to document my condition. It already is disabling in that it cuts me off certain activities and vocations, and I've had to create a lifestyle that accommodates these limitations. I know it will eventually get worse, so having long-term disability insurance is important. I currently have it through my employer, but I recently came up with a new career interest in a field that wouldn't likely provide it as far as I know, so I would have to buy it independently. My question is what are my chances of getting disability insurance in light of the fact that I already have an undocumented pre-existing condition. It boils down to whether I can get it without committing fraud. What screening process will I have to undertake? Will I have to answer a questionaire that will require me to disclose my that I have an undiagnosed health concern? Will they request medical records, and how far back will they go? I have a paper trail in the distant past of bitterly complaining to many doctors, and had some imaging of minimal significance. [link] [comments] |
Single Car Collision, Family Insurance Question Posted: 31 Oct 2020 07:02 PM PDT Rhode Island. I hit some black ice and was unable to recover, I spun multiple times and totaled my vehicle 2005 Tacoma. The airbags went off and the front end was trashed, leaking radiator fluid etc. I'm still on my family's insurance and they believe I was speeding due to the damage. I was in fact going under the speed limit as it was the first real freeze this year and I was worried about ice. I'm not injured at all. I don't really know a lot about our insurance, except that my mom is the registered owner of my truck and I'm on her policy. She's telling me that she and my father have full coverage for their vehicles, but I only have liability insurance on my truck, no collision. Is there anything I can do to have my truck covered? I was the only person in the car. Based on what she's saying it sounds like my only recourse for compensation is to scrap my vehicle. Is this accurate? If it's relevant, I live at home with my mother and father still. [link] [comments] |
Applying to get my Life and Health License Posted: 31 Oct 2020 12:44 PM PDT I live in Wisconsin, USA and have a question that's kind of embarrassing though. New York State: Do I qualify for medicare for psychiatric reasons/disability. Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:13 PM PDT Hello. I see a psychiatrist. I am 53 years old. I have been buying my insurance from the the ACA exchange in my state. I am not thrilled with my insurance and would prefer medicare. Many Dr's dropped the plan the last year and I am anticipating more drops in 2021. Someone mentioned to me that I might qualify for Medicare due to disability/inability to work. I am bipolar and have had severe episodes. Do I qualify or are there also income requirements. I certainly don't qualify for medicaid. My Adjusted Gross Income is about $75,000-$85,000 year. Is this person correct? Do I qualify? I think the psychiatrist has to do something as well. How to I go about applying and finding out? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 12:26 PM PDT I'm shopping around for home insurance since I'm in the process of buying a home. I'm located in MN. I got quotes from 4 agents including 1 independent agent. The independent agent asked about our home's electrical. Instead of breakers, we have those screw fuses. When he came back with our quote, he said the screw fuses eliminated most of the companies they work with. The company he quoted me for requires pictures of the fuse box. Now I have a lower quote from AllState, but they didn't ask me about that part of my home. Do I need to disclose that? Will that keep them from paying out a claim in the future? [link] [comments] |
Auto insurance surcharge after accident - how is it determined? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 03:14 PM PDT I know insurance models can be very complex. But I am wondering... if a driver was at fault and hit an expensive car (say a Lambo valued at 250k) as opposed to a an older common vehicle (Hyundai/Honda/Ford/etc valued at $2500). Let's say the insurance policy of the at fault driver was able to cover the damages in full -- obviously, the insurance company has to payout a larger amount for the expensive car than the inexpensive car for repairs or replacement. All else the same, would there be a difference in the increase in the rates between hitting the expensive car vs the inexpensive car? [link] [comments] |
Small Company Wanting to Offer Health Insurance Posted: 31 Oct 2020 03:13 PM PDT I have an appointment with a health plan strategist, but in the interim I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about small company health care? We run a company of about 20 total employees. Normally, there are regular insurance plans set up for small companies, however, we are a bit unique in our hours so we can't really subscribe to set plans for everyone. Employees are on-call, 3 to 5 days a week, and do not have set hours. So an employee can have anywhere from 15 to 40 hours in a week, and it is not entirely within their control (mostly it is due to them not wanting to work, but we are also unavoidably at the mercy of last minute jobs). We have a few salaried office workers who work a set 40 hours a week. Our team loves the flexibility of the work week, and we employ mostly those who wanted to fill time around hobbies, school, or otherwise, but it is difficult to set a minimum number of expectations for hours. I don't just want to offer an option to those who work a guaranteed 32 or more hours, so I need a flexible set-up. I thought about a voucher system, or a partial pay of premium option, etc., but I want to make it as fair as possible with our wide range of work availability. Any creative or fair ideas would be welcome! Edit: In Oregon [link] [comments] |

Does car insurance go down with every birthday? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 08:21 AM PDT I'm 23 with a Geico insurance of $1,824 for 6 months. My 24th birthday is coming soon. Will that lower my insurance? Edit: I googled insurance rates and supposedly they decrease with age also? They said the average rate for a 24 year old is $724. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 10:56 AM PDT Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this! I got a renewal documents pack for my home insurance which looks like it was opened along the side of the envelope (it has been raining today so could just be that), but in the documents it states things I previously wanted covering in the insurance (and how much they'd be worth) The neighbourhood is... Not super trustworthy tbh, but should I worry or anything :/? Edit: live in the UK [link] [comments] |
Why did my GEICO premium increase after a not-at-fault accident. Posted: 31 Oct 2020 10:00 AM PDT I was in an accident in Florida a month ago. I'm 20, live in North Carolina, and was paying 81 a month. Now my policy renewed and increased to 105 a month. I filed and settled a claim with the other drivers insurance company, as I was not the party at fault (stated clearly by the ticket issued to the other driver). Why did my rates increase? I read online that insurance companies shouldn't increase rates if I don't make a claim on my own policy. I have a feeling it may be due to my age. [link] [comments] |
If your attacked by a wild animal on someone else’s property, is the land owners insurance liable? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:22 AM PDT I'm a former Auto Claims adjuster who's buying their first home. I saw a bear in the woods down the road from my new home. I know if you have a domesticated animal and it injures someone, the injured party can sue your home owners coverage. Are you liable if a wild animal attacks someone on your property? [link] [comments] |
