LPT: Sending an unsolicited calendar appointment is a sure way to get blacklisted

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:10 AM PDT

I don't know who thought this was a good idea but the new practice is to send unwanted calendar appointments. It marks the time as tentative on my calendar and screws up my week. These people are on my blacklist immediately for that kind of behavior.

Others seeing this? Is there some kind of shitty guidance that these idiots are following?

Edit: should've clarified that these invites are coming out of the blue from vendors I don't know. Trying to figure out if this is a new tactic we need to prepare for.

How do I sell penny stocks over the phone?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:18 PM PDT

I built my script around Jordan Belfort's book "straight line persuasion" and "way of the wolf"

I have gotten some good results but it's too little return compared to invested time on the phone.

Customers either hang up too fast to handle their objection or I can't figure out if their objections are real or fake since the answers are repeatedly AVOIDANT. I can hear they're not straightly answering my follow up question.

Should I just be bold and say "I can hear there's something else bothering you"?

It's cold calling. And I have to convince them to by penny stocks that you currently can't trade on the market since its not public.

My colleagues are doing well but I don't know why. I've listened closely and they basically just hammer away and are the stereotypical sales people everybody hates. Somehow that works wonders for them.. But they also lie a lot. And the risk of getting caught in a lie in this business is not worth to try for me.

So.... Anybody who sells this kind of stuff? This is basically wolf of wall street.

I have done some sales and hit high numbers. But it still feels more luck than skill and I have no idea what to improve besides maybe tonality. I have no clue. And I might add there's no help to get from colleagues since we're basically competition (full commission 100 percent)

Any clues, tips ideas? Anything. I can provide my script in a dm if anybody needs to take a look.

How do you convince somebody to buy something they don't want?

    Question about Real Estate Agents

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 11:22 AM PDT

I'm wondering are they part of an organization or semi contractors?

I'm want to start a dialog with real estate agents but I'm not sure if I should contact all of them individually? Or as a firm?

From the prospect side: the AE who skipped the sales process

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 10:32 AM PDT

I was reading one of the myriad of ranting threads on this forum, so I thought I'd share one of my own.

I am in marketing, and a decision maker/influencer in many purchases in all of my roles. This happened a couple of years ago.

An AE prospected into my company, because he had previously worked with many people on the team. We had a pitch lunch with him and an initial demo. After that initial demo, we talked ballpark pricing and I told him we will investigate and I'll get back to him if it becomes a priority.

There was no quote or anything like that, literally just this lunch an initial demo.

A couple of weeks later he follows up, over email and text. I got busy and hadn't got back to him. I told him we aren't interested now and we could revisit in a year. The AE was so POed at me. He said that he had already told everyone we committed to closing this month, including the board. LOL.

I was shocked, because we didn't even have a quote lol.

Anyway, this is my friendly reminder that you need to go through all the steps before you can count a deal as committed. It probably helps to have a final price quote and a verbal yes before telling everyone it is closing.

Anyway, this guy stands out in my mind as a terrible sales person, and I am sure to run into him again! And the company in question ended up struggling hard - apparently they committed a lot of stuff to late stage pipeline that vanished!

Startup, need an idea of realistic compensation

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 09:51 AM PDT

So, like most startups, cash is tight, but I also know it is unrealistic to ask someone to work for commission only, especially for a SaaS product that may take some time to get thru a sales cycle on. Is something like $500/week + 20% commission going to get me a seat at the table with someone? I've looked up biz dev compensation packages and they seem to be all over the map.

Thought experiment: If a sci-fi movie-esque A.I. was invented that specialized in getting leads to decision makers. How high would your cold call close rate go up?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:36 AM PDT

Let's say that this A.I. got you leads that went straight to the owner/decision maker and completely bypassed gaterkeepers, receptionists, secretaries, and lower level employees.

And let's say that this A.I. also tells you the perfect time to call these leads so the decision maker will never say "I'm too busy right now" or "now's not a good time."

Imagine getting to pitch on EVERY SINGLE CALL.

How would this affect your close rate?

    Mail Merges

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:31 PM PDT

I know how to send in gmail.

But the current place I work is using Outlook. Also using Salesforce. I'm using a Mac.

Is anyone able to suggest mail merge extensions or programs? I can figure out how to export my book, hopefully, but Outlook seems to have a huge gap sending these out.

    Thank you

    Transitioning from Agency Recruiting

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:20 PM PDT

I was wondering if anyone here has made the transition from agency recruiting into software sales? I'm currently a manager of a sales and recruiting team that places software engineers. I worked my way from entry level and am still very much hands on closing deals. I am full desk and make around 50 outbound dials to clients daily to sell my teams services and also work to fill the positions I find.

I made about $115k last year and am looking at around 70k this year with the hiring market being like it is. I want to get into more of a sales role, ideally selling software, but was wondering what level I could realistically target with my experience? I'm closing in on 4 total years with my company and have absolutely nothing close to work life balance. I think I could be getting more return on my efforts but am not closed off to this being incorrect. Anyone made this switch or have any perspective on it?

Anyone else absolutely hate it when a customer says “that’s expensive” ?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:19 PM PDT

For the product I sell or really for any other product that's available for sale out there...

So many buyers fail to recognize the VALUE in terms of cost per use instead of initial cost. If something is "expensive" usually that just signifies it is of greater value to the end user. It has superior features/construction/benefits/etc... than something else that costs a fraction of the price.

I also just had someone tell me the $89 pair of sunglasses I'm wearing is "so expensive"... "how could you possibly blow your money away on something like that?" Blew my mind. Like no it isn't expensive... at all.

Oftentimes it's not really "expensive", you (as a buyer) are just cheap

    Looking for basic CRM recommendation

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:56 PM PDT

    Hello!

I need something real simple, basically just for PURSUING LEADS. Three people (including myself) to share a CRM to log activity like phone calls & emails. Will probably work just a few leads a day.
Basically want to use just for tracking the leads and we have our own system to track actual sales for when they are customers.

Is there a specific simple CRM that you can recommend for the above use?

    Appreciate your help!

Outside Sales Rep Contact List Question

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 08:31 AM PDT

As an outside sales rep, one of my manufacturing partners is asking for my contact list. They have not furnished me with an introduction or sales list themselves. What is my obligation to them? Should I give my contact list to them?

    Corporate Renewable Energy Sales?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 04:13 AM PDT

    Hi /r/sales,

I hope you're all killing it.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience first or secondhand in corporate renewable energy sales? Is it even a thing? Are there salespeople that are selling solar panels and wind farms at scale to organisations and governments?

If it is a thing, what's the landscape, what skills are required, is it rewarding, is it boring?

How to get my first saas demo booked

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 11:11 AM PDT

    Hi,

I have recently started my Masters at UCD ireland and in the first week was able to fetch an internship with an indian startup trying to expand in ireland and UK.

They have a B2B HR software(which is pretty good) and have been trying to email people in order to get demos booked. They fired the last person who was responsible for marketing and sales because there were no results lately.

Now, i have been assigned the same task to get demos fixed and then sell them. Although i have never done this before, but i am pretty enthusiastic and keen to learn and nail it.

Was looking for some advice about how should i make my strategy about the same. I am planning to make things happen through linkedin but still want some help.

Any input is appreciated and would love to get some insights from the people who are from this industry. Also, just to let you all know my title is business development representative

Is a college degree directly related to sales or business vital to being a long term salesperson?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:17 AM PDT

I'm in my early 20's and I have an associates degree in medical equipment repair. I currently work in the same field as my degree. I'm looking to transition my career path into sales and wondering how important a degree related to sales is to career success and advancement. Thanks!

    Accidentally Salesman

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 09:18 AM PDT

I accidentally became a really successful salesman. I'm constantly in the top 3 of our entire company, for our entire state. Sometimes in the entire Midwest.

I'm writing a book and collecting information, I intend to test some A to B methods for providing good advice.

What is something about sales that has helped you the most?

For myself it has been providing the absolute best customer service and genuine empathetic approach with the customer. If I truly listen and do a good job, I end up with a good sale. I feel good, the customer feels good.

By focusing on their experience instead of the sale itself, sales have become a product of my job. In fact I don't consider myself a salesman. I view sales as part of the job. Does that make sense?

First job - what are some resources for learning product knowledge?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 05:23 AM PDT

Student here and just got a part-time job as a sales person at a big electronics/technology chain. The only products that I'm familiar with are computers and don't know much about anything else like TVs, audio, Hi-Fi, Apple products (never owned/used one), smartphones, kitchenware, etc. Because of this, I feel like the customer will lose confidence in me because I have no value to add due to my lack of product knowledge and may mislead them. Is there a good online resource for learning product knowledge or anything that can help benefit my role as a newbie?

Hi guys, I need some follow up advice. I work in health insurance sales where people look to find and buy coverage by 21 days at most, usually within 10 days. How often should I follow up with them after price and coverage is discussed? And how do I avoid the ''just checking in'' method??

    I greatly appreciate your advice.

    Tech Sales Compensation Data

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 08:50 AM PDT

Saw this site (www.compgauge.com) posted on Overheard_Sales IG story this morning that shares Tech sales total comp breakdowns.

As someone trying to get an SDR role, it's wild to see that AWS pays their SDR's 100k+ Total Comp?!??! And they don't rate the WLB that bad either. That's insane for entry level SDR. I'd be happy to get 65k OTE right now lol.

Crazy stuff out there in cloud tech sales right now

Do you use Gifs in cold emails?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:54 AM PDT

    Hey people!

Do you think GIfs/pictures will give your email bad deliverability?

Been using 1 gif on one of my sequences and it has yielded some good results, but im afraid it gets caught by other companies firewalls/spamfilters.

I feel like gifs are really good to showcase your product in a fast and a neat way.

Are your sales teams back in the office?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 11:30 PM PDT

We've been work from home since covid started with promises that the company would be more work remote friendly. In our morning meeting, they announced it's "highly encouraged" to start coming to the office now. It was implied that the change is because we aren't hitting our numbers even though activity and opps production has been steadily increasing. I moved back home and live with my older parents that are more at risk and I don't feel comfortable going back into the office while covid cases are at an all time high in my state. Seems like they want people back in the office as a punishment for poor performance rather than safety. Anyone had similar changes happen recently?

Who here thinks it's reasonable to routinely ask for proof of delivery before paying invoices

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:05 AM PDT

I'm sure that nobody minds digging out the odd POD for customers, but what do people think about customers saying we never pay invoices unless there is a POD, is that reasonable? I'm very interested to hear what people think. I'm personally in two minds about it.
