Let myself get pushed around into some sketchy "promotion" contracts I can't afford. Any way out?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 06:24 PM PDT

Learned my lesson these last few days. Just opened my business and got plenty of sales calls from salesmen trying to sell me products to help spread the word.

The first case we have is by a company known as "Best Version Media". I met one of the salesmen at a local restaurant and got the whole spiel about how their market tactics have "proven results" by inserting my ads into their neighborhood magazines (that I doubt anybody reads). Nobody I know in these neighborhoods have ever heard of the magazine. Big old red flag. I did some research on their company and found it to be full of complaints on the BBB website. At this point I want out. The salesman was even making me uncomfortable, seemed like a sketchy used car salesman. Signed up for a 12 month contract. Somewhere close to $350 a month.

The next contract is by BrandRep, $170 a month. Supposed to get me to the top of SEO listings but found the same complaints about this company, same sketchy salesman. No credibility with me.

Is there any way to get out of these? They have my billing info, which has not been updated since my credit card was lost.

How to communicate to Karens that gloves aren’t required

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 09:37 PM PDT

Hi reddit, I own a cafe and a customer saw one of my employees not wearing rubber gloves. Naturally we got an angry earful from her so we apologized and asked the employee to wear gloves.

However, gloves are not required in our county for food service - washing hands with soap and water is required. For all you restauranteurs, you know gloves are dirtier than barehands. There's also a national glove shortage which makes wearing gloves to appease Karens even harder.

I now posted the county health COVID-19 rules for workers, but how should I have my employees kindly communicate to the misinformed that gloves are not required?

    Thanks!

Looking to move my business out of SoCal. Suggestions?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 10:06 AM PDT

I run a manufacturing business with 5 distinct departments and about 24 employees in California. My leadership team just went on a Grand Adventure to scope out Reno, Sparks, Henderson, Mesquite, and St George. There are so many pluses and minuses to each location that now we're kind of suffering from choice overload. I'd really appreciate some input about any of these cities. We're also going to go check out Idaho Falls in the next couple of weeks. The move is going to be over the course of the next year, so we're not in a rush. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Where is the best place to get money to start a business?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 04:13 AM PDT

I want to create a website to help the relatives of the victims for my country (some of the money will go to the help fund from the covid). It costs $ 1200 to build a website, but with my salary of $ 15 a day, I can only do it in 8 months. At first I thought to find investors, but many do not agree to send money to charity. Are there any other fundraising options?

    Question about Facebook groups?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 05:15 AM PDT

I'm in a very large Facebook group as an admin. There are 8 other admins who, if I'm honest, I don't know very well.

I'm always worried there's a risk there could be a "rogue" admin who just decides to take away all admin rights from the other admins. He'll then have sole-power in the group and can do what he likes. Almost a bit like a dictator.

Can an admin remove all other admins like this then never make them admins again?

Need advice on starting Online Tutoring Business

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 04:00 AM PDT

    Hello!

I wanted to understand what is the best way for a single person to start an Online Tutoring Business in the locality. We do not have a lot of capital to spend as we are investing ourselves. I would like to know your thoughts and suggestions, as I have little idea regarding this.

One approach I thought of was through creating a website and social media for getting students and then using Zoom/ Teams for classes.

If there are any tools or systems that could be used for this, I would be quite happy to know about them.

    Paying 3rd party creators

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 06:55 PM PDT

I'm creating an e-commerce site (most likely with WordPress) where 3rd party creator content will be for sale. What's the easiest way to pay the creators? Should I take the gross sale then pay the creators manually on a monthly basis or is there a better way? This is a smaller side project so I'm looking for low cost or free solutions. Thanks!

    Facebook business help

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 01:56 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Somehow my photos posted in posts onto my fb business page, they look like normal posts until you click the photo and it opts up with a messaging prompt. I myself am finding it annoying and could only image it being annoying for my followers, I was wondering if anyone knows how to turn it off - I've tried googling but no luck.

    Cheers

Find an agency or Try running my own ads?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 11:42 PM PDT

Hello guys! Looking for some advices, please help.

I have a max $2000 to spend on my marketing plan. I've been trying to find agency and usually the cost of their service is about 40% of my budget.

I've recently learnt about setting up Facebook ads and want to give it a crack by myself. At the same time, I'm thinking if I can do it or if I will have enough time stretching myself across running ads, design ads copy, source product, design website and schedule social media content.

When I work with agency before, I have some ups and downs experience. I find it hard to communicate with them, also I feel like there is a limitation when I suggest something, either budget is limited, or the ads copy and their target audience is not good enough or I'm not quite satisfy.

If I go with agency, also means I'm cutting on budget I can spend on advertising. If I do it myself, I can save on budget to test out more.

I'm just trying to be better at handling my online store. I'm thinking should I delegate tasks? Or learn them and do it myself so at least I learn something.

Not quite sure which ways to approach this.

    What you guys recommend?

    Changing Business Formation - Difficulty

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 10:39 PM PDT

I'm looking at a potentially head-aching project I may be facing in the next few months.

Myself and a partner have a business that we've been building for the last few months. We've actually been doing pretty well considering the circumstances. When we formed we set up as a general partnership to keep registration costs low, but are now wishing we just registered as an LLC so we can put ourselves on payroll and lower personal liability should any injuries occur to us or to our employees. Is there any straightforward way to change the business formation? Is there any way to do this and retain the credit history we currently have?

How do I take the next step for my business?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 08:40 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I've been running 2 live station catering businesses for the past 3 years now and both have been performing relatively well; both businesses combined have raked in 6 figures collectively from the past year.

Our clients are about 80% corporate (event companies, product launches, MICE, etc) and 20% consumer (weddings, birthdays, celebrations).

So far, we have only done inbound marketing: the standard setting up of Google MyBusiness, Social Media pages (Facebook and Instagram), and websites that are consistently ranked top 5 on Google's Search Engine. I'd say that 90% of our client's comes from our website, through a web form. The remaining 10% comes from word-of-mouth and physical exposure when we are out for events.

The reason for only setting up inbound marketing channels was because I was still undergoing my Bachelor's and did not want to create too much business for myself to handle whilst I juggled school. However, I have since graduated and want to propel my business further.

*insert 2020's most used phrase* Because of COVID-19, almost all our events for the year were wiped out from client cancellations and postponement. During the early stages of the pandemic, my country was on a lockdown and we decided to sell consumer versions (bottled) of our product. Customers would order our product and we would deliver them. For this campaign, the success was through Instagram. Most of our orders came through Instagram where customer's would share IG stories about their purchase.

This was where I noticed the huge difference when it comes to marketing for B2B and B2C. B2C reacts really well to Social Media Marketing whereas B2B is reliant on SEM (I may be wrong here).

So, down to the main question:

How do I reach out to B2B clients? Aside from SEO, I've been looking at using email marketing (MailChimp), and cold calling but I've got no idea where to start. Sure, my Bachelor's has equipped me with many theories on Marketing, but I've got 0 experience in Marketing and I've no idea how Marketing works in the real world (execution).

Looking for any advice that could help me on this sub :)

    Thank you in advance!

    Advice and Feedback?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 08:11 PM PDT

I have three small shops, and I'm working on a fourth. I haven't really made much in return, not as much as I've spent anyway.

So I'm looking for advice on cheap / cost effective ways to advertise. To get traffic. What to do. Where to go.

Maybe, if possible, can I get some reviews on my sites? Do they look sketchy? I get views, mostly on my boutique, but no purchases.

I am going to link them here if it's OK, and hopefully I can get some feedback.

I feel like I am at a standstill. Not moving forward. I also know, "Rome wasn't built in a day," so I'm not expecting to suddenly be rich and have millions of sales... But I don't know what to do. Where do I go from here?

Any advice for a young entrepreneur would be appreciated 💖

    Elnixia- My Online Boutique

Reuzy's - My Online Pet Shop

(Yes I haven't bought the domain yet!)

Enchanted Crafts - My Etsy Shop

I know I don't have many listings on my last one, that's probably why I don't have views.

I appreciate all of you and any feedback possible😌

Contributing to SEP IRA as a sole prop S-Corp

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 08:06 PM PDT

Previously my company was a LLC taxed as a sole prop, and I'd contribute 25% towards SEP IRA. Now I'm looking to classify it as S-Corp. Under S-Corp I know that the employer can contribute upwards of 25% of W2 towards SEP IRA, and this has to be done via the employer and not the employee.

My question - what are the formal steps to contribute as the employer? My typical sequence of steps to do this from employee is:

    1. Transfer X money from company to my personal taxable investment account
    2. As soon as it's in the taxable investment account, transfer X amount from the investment account into the IRA

Does this sound fine, or do is it not allowed for the intermediary taxable investment account? I do it mostly for convenience.

Also, i want to get into the perfume and children's book arena(already have the bottle designed and the perfume made)(also have half of my children's book done and want to create a series over time)

Im feeling this is the worst time to do that because i dont know what is going to happen with the economy especially after the election and next year.

What is a fair trade for building someone's business?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 09:25 AM PDT

I'm building someone else's business for a small salary compensation. The business is taking off and the owner doesn't even know how to login to his website or answer any customer service questions. That's ok with me Im just setting the tone here.

What kind of deal should I present for fair compensation? I want location freedom the most and long term incentive. I don't want to be greedy or selfish but I also hate those shower thoughts where I think to myself "why don't I just do my own thing?" I don't want to abandon this guy or the work I've been doing. But I don't want to wrong myself.

Thanks for reading, any thoughts or ideas are appreciated as I do research, have conversations, and figure this out. ☺️

    Managing in person memberships

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 06:00 PM PDT

We are moving to a new facility and as part of that move, we are planning to create a space where customers will for access to certain machines (similar to a maker space). Customers can either purchase a monthly membership for 3-4 tiers that gain them access for differing amounts of time and access to more complex pieces of equipment, or they can purchase time by the hour.

Until this point, we have not had a POS terminal as most of our sales have been online and occasionally accepting payments using Square/Paypal when we went onsite for certain events. Any recommendations as to how to track and manage such a system. Thoughts on physical membership cards vs relying on phone numbers or some phone based membership where members are issued a QR code or similar.

If it matters we are also in the very early stages of updating our website - likely WooCommerce or Magento (based on our needs, our developers are thinking WooCommerce would be adequate to save us some money - but this was before we were thinking about needing to manage memberships)

Looking for Advice on Being a Silent Partner

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 02:09 PM PDT

Thanks for anyone taking the time to read this.

I have a small painting company for the past 20 years and has been very successful. I have been wanting to do something else in my life and for a number of reasons I have decided to sell up and move back to the UK where my wife is from and I grew up.

Anyways, I am the business end of the company and I use Subs for the work. Some have been around for 20 years others more recent. What I am selling is not the subs but the reputation of the business, the phone number, website, contacts, clients etc..

I came up with a valuation for the company based off what I think someone can pay me from the profits brought in monthly without crippling the business. I have found 3 guys interested in partnering to buy the business at the agreed amount. These 3 guys are currently 2 of my best Subs and another individual who is more on the business end in the same field as I currently am who would take my position.

If you are still with me, I am now at a point I'm not 100% sure how to proceed. These guys wanting to buy the business have really no investment to put any money for a downpayment to me and I am willing to finance it for a period of say 4 years, I know a lot of this is on good faith and promises but thought i'd ask for any advice.

I have thought about being a silent partner in the Business and give the 3 of them each 25% shareholder leaving me with the final 25% and then asking for that percentage of profits each month to make payments. This would allow them to pay more on good months and less on not so good months. Also keeps me somewhat incontrol of the business if things didn't going according to plan.

I don't know what pitfalls this would entail ot if this would even be the best way to move forward, Any advice I can I am open to listening.
