One thing I miss about public: client stories

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 06:56 PM PDT

In private my work stories are boring and aren't worth recounting. "Nancy said she'd do this thing a month ago and bitch dropped the ball so today I had to cover her ass" doesn't have the same ring as "I audited blood today" etc.

    US cost of living

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 05:51 PM PDT

Cost of living is thrown around a lot on this sub, but there are some people who may not know how to compare, so I'm just throwing out some places that would seem to fit in each of the three categories of high, medium, and low. I made educated guesses on many of these, so please mention if you think a city should be in another category.

    -High

    New York
    Boston
    Washington (DC)
    San Francisco
    Los Angeles
    Seattle
    Chicago
    Miami

    -Medium

    Philadelphia
    Baltimore
    Pittsburgh
    Denver
    Nashville
    Portland
    Minneapolis
    Salt Lake City
    Dallas
    Houston
    Atlanta
    Tampa

    -Low

    New Orleans
    Buffalo
    Cleveland
    Cincinnati
    Detroit
    Oklahoma City
    Indianapolis
    Milwaukee
    Orlando
    Louisville
    Kansas City
    St. Louis
    Phoenix
    Las Vegas

    Unemployment after internship

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:08 PM PDT

Can I get unemployment after finishing my internship at a big 4? Will it affect my full time offer at all? I'm a non traditional intern and not a student anymore. I have to find a job for the year in between the end of the internship and the time I start full time but will probably take some time to find one so was thinking about filing for unemployment while I find one.

I got a full time offer from my internship but I want to move across the country after I graduate. Is there anything wrong with requesting a transfer?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:32 PM PDT

The place I will be working only has like 3 offices across the country and I really want to move. I just don't see myself having a future where I currently live. I'm just afraid with everything going on my offer will be rescinded or I'll just be on bad terms or something

Also I am starting FT/graduating in December

Graduating earlier than I expected. Should I stick with my Big4 internship for next summer or recruit for a full-time position?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:31 PM PDT

    Hey!

So, I have an internship lined up with a Big4 next summer but I'm going to graduate a semester earlier than I expected. I thought I had to do a lot more classes and I would graduate Fall '21, but it seems like my graduation will be during spring '21. So instead of doing my summer internship and then waiting an entire year to start my job at a Big4, I was thinking about going for a full-time offer at a different firm and start my career faster.
btw: i'm older than a regular student. im in my late 20s and i feel so behind already in life. hence why i want to start my career asap.

I currently have a 3.6 gpa. I have an accounting internship under my belt and I do have leadership experience as a team trainer at my old part-time job. I don't really have any extracurriculars or volunteer work.

Would you personally try to recruit this fall semester for a full time offer at another Big4? Is it harder to get a full-time offer compared to an internship? Does anybody know how recruiting will pan out this fall semester and how it might change for someone to stand out as a candidate?

Thanks guys! I know COVID has changed everything and ill appreciate any insight you have.

    Life After Big 4 Audit?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 06:02 AM PDT

So I am coming up on my first year anniversary and have been thinking about what my next steps will be after Big 4.

For those who left Big 4 audit:

    1) how many years experience did you have before leaving?

    2) Where did you go next and what position

    3) did audit help prepare you for your next role and how so?

    TYIA!

How much would it cost me to keep up my CPA?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 01:56 PM PDT

So I'm thinking of moving to a new job in a few months because that's where I feel like I should go. The catch is they aren't going to be paying for any expenses to keep up my CPA.

So before I finish salary negotiations, I'm trying to figure out how much it cost me to keep it up per year.

I'm not a CPA yet, I just need to complete the VA ethic and the 1 year of job experience and then I can get licensed.

Thanks for the help in advance

CPA FAR study - using Becker

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 04:01 PM PDT

I know lot of resources here, but still asking again, brain overload with opinions.

Taking FAR exam end of Sept. Currently on F5..... I work full time and been out of school for a long time, so studying and retaining is taking a while. Using BECKER - No study methods besides watching lectures, taking notes, and doing MCQ after.

    Couple questions

    1. AICPA blueprint - how to read it for FAR?
    2. What are progress tests? better to do MCQ / skills after each Module or each F section?
    3. Extra supplements necessary like Ninja? how do i implement them while doing Becker

THANK YOU in advance for answering my above queries! ... goal is to pass FAR first time!

Could someone explain me in details the role of Fund Accountant?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 07:42 PM PDT

Hello redditers, the title basically says it all, but really, what do they do? As I'm from corporate side, this is a little bit confusing for me.

I'm planning on becoming a fund accountant (on the investment side, like NAV, etc), and I have applied for it as well, but I see people saying that it's a tough role, and an end hole with no way out.

Could someone give me some advice on this position and how to succeed? And also, what knowledge do we need to know in Excel to do this job?

    Thanks in advance!

    Masters of Taxation, worth it?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:51 PM PDT

I am a Senior at a large firm in the US. I have my CPA, but considering going back for the MST (I had 150 credits upon undergrad completion).

I am wondering if anyone that has been through a program can provide any feedback on what you were able to take or not take from your program. Is it worth it?

    Recent graduate resume question

    Recent graduate resume question

    https://preview.redd.it/mkc7b9p4phe51.png?width=794&format=png&auto=webp&s=443dd17b373ce5b005dafbffca61f3b1f75c1224

How can I improve resume at this point? I don't have anything to write to make a 1 page resume. I don't have any work experience, volunteer, club, etc. My preference is public for at least 3 yrs before considering jumping to industry, but I am kind of desperate so I don't want to be too picky about that. What positions/job titles should I be applying for? Full time or internship? What skills can I learn by myself that doesn't cost money? I am currently learning excel on excelisfun youtube.
