Significant Insider Trades (Last 7 Days)

    Posted: 29 May 2020 10:44 AM PDT

This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report.

U.S. savings rate hits record 33% as coronavirus causes Americans to stockpile cash, curb spending

    Posted: 29 May 2020 09:40 AM PDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/29/us-savings-rate-hits-record-33percent-as-coronavirus-causes-americans-to-stockpile-cash-curb-spending.html

The personal savings rate hit a historic 33% in April, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis said Friday.

"There is a tremendous uncertainty and virus fear that is lingering and that is restraining people's desire to go out and spend as they normally would," said Gregory Daco, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics.

With the U.S. consumer accounting for more two-thirds of the economy, the economic recovery depends on whether the increase in savings is a result of shutdowns or structural changes in consumer habits, analysts said.

The increase in savings came as spending declined by a record 13.6% for the month.

18 year-old looking for some guidance on a 1-2 year investment plan.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 06:20 PM PDT

Hi everybody! I am 18 and just starting out in stocks. I plan on investing (at this time) $800. I am willing to put forth more if I have more closure about my investments. I currently have $500 spread around in ERI, MGM, and SPXS. The reason I say 1-2 years is because I am looking to make some side money to help with college expenses such as a new laptop, and I also need a new phone, this money could help with a bunch of stuff. Should I invest in ETFs? Is my current portfolio looking okay or no? Is it realistic to build a 1.5 year portfolio; am I crazy? I appreciate any tips, advice, or words of wisdom you wish to enlighten me with.

    Best Regards,

    Ben

With IVR returning to paying out dividends (albeit modified) does this bode well for how they feel about their own future and do they become worth buying?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 07:13 PM PDT

After canceling Q1 dividends, IVR is paying out .50 a share quarterly with 3 options for Q2. 1) Stock 2) Cash 3) .05 cash a share and the rest of the 90% as stock (this is the default option).

I have about 1k shares right now with an average buy of 2.85. I'm curious if at this current price, and they seem to be committed to returning to paying quarterly, is it smart to gobble up a fair amount of shares There's obvious still risk in any investment so I guess is it a high or low risk to start heavily focusing on IVR right now.

The extra $600 Americans receive in weekly unemployment benefits ends in July — how that could cost the U.S. more jobs

    Posted: 28 May 2020 09:04 PM PDT

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ending-the-extra-600-a-month-americans-are-getting-in-unemployment-benefits-could-cost-the-us-more-jobs-some-economists-say-2020-05-28

Two-thirds of Americans are receiving more money from unemployment benefits than they did from their jobs, largely because of a supplemental $600 weekly benefit that's part of the $2.2 trillion CARES Act.

However, job openings hit a three-year low in March, the most recently reported month in the Bureau of Labor Statistics monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover report. Job openings are expected to continue to dwindle, suggesting that more Americans are unlikely to leave their state's unemployment insurance program.

Is it me or is Alibaba looking incredibly solid in this environment for the current price

    Posted: 29 May 2020 12:18 PM PDT

Alibaba's performance during the COVID crisis has already shown the world its ability to not only operate, but excel in the midst of virus-induced turmoil that continues to sink other ships. It seems pretty discounted at the moment as well due to the whole Trump China thing, but many analysts have already put forth bullish sentiments and significantly higher price targets as well as a swath of buy ratings across the board. Honestly at this point I feel as though Alibaba can operate on the same level as amazon in a post-virus economy.

https://www.barrons.com/articles/why-alibaba-stock-could-be-attractive-again-51590520095 a nice little read that I came across.

EDIT: Just realized that the recent price dip was most likely induced by Trump's rhetoric, but also that this dip followed a very, very good earnings report. An investorplace article calls it a "discounted price", and I have to agree.

EDIT 2: Has climbed from $197 to $203 since posting this after new analyst price targets and ratings have been released. Maintains 100% buy rating, avg price target of $246, another increase in price target consensus from 30 days ago.

What style of investing would benefit me and fit me the most? [UPDATED]

    Posted: 29 May 2020 03:03 PM PDT

I previously posted today asking what trading style would fit me and I wanted to ask some more questions

    Original post:

I'm 14 and I'm earning about $5 a day from doing online surveys. I thought about just saving but trading or investing it seemed like a way better idea. It works perfectly because I've always wanted to learn

I've been doing research and I'm overwhelmed with just everything. It's hard to avoid the BS on YouTube and find valuable content which is unfortunate. I'm confused with what I want to do.

Day trading wouldn't work for my schedule, I don't want to be looking at graphs for 3 hours a day and it wouldn't fit my schedule for the upcoming school years.

Swing trading looks good, but so does long term investing. I don't know of any other styles/methods if there are any, so I'm asking what would work for somebody like me.

    ———————————————————————

New Question: On the previous post, people said I should do Vanguard, SPY, basically ETFs. I want to take advantage of my young age, but I also want to earn short-term money. Since I'm only 14, earning my own money just gives me so much freedom and I wouldn't have to beg my parents for things. So after reading the previous text, what should I do and what do you recommend for me?

Thank you for all the answers in the previous post, helps out a lot!

    Thoughts on this portfolio?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 11:13 AM PDT

My main goal is to build a safe but diverse portfolio over a few decades. I plan on contributing to it every month like I would a savings account, but I want some return. The plan is to focus primarily on ETFs, dividends, and safe growth with a little risk.

    Suggestions for the other 15%?

    Thanks.

Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days)

    Posted: 29 May 2020 10:44 AM PDT

These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds).

There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions.

    New Filings

This table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold.

best way to start Getting into s&p etf in UK

    Posted: 29 May 2020 08:23 AM PDT

A long post here with multiple questions. Ive been investing small amounts in individual stocks for a while now while learning the market but I now want to start building up a serious position in an etf for retirement. Im using the app free trade as in the UK as its the only one ive found that doesn't charge and seems reliable (heard some bad things about trading 212) and it doesnt have VOO or SPY but instead VUSA and some other s&p etfs. Should I open up an account with another brokerage for my etf or stay on this app and buy VUSA? I would also appreciate if someone could explain the best way to minimise taxes I currently just trade through the app and haven't looked into an investment ISA but since Im aiming to add about 8-12,000 a year to the etf I think I will need too. Any resources or advice on where I should buy the etf, best one too go with for a 20+ year time frame and what steps I will need to take to ensure I avoid as much taxes as legally possible will be very appreciated. thanks :)

Why is the stock market so high this week?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 05:57 PM PDT

I don't understand what's going on - I see 40M people unemployed and economic disaster and major population centers like NYC still under lockdown and with very soft/drawn out reopening plans, which means months more of no economic activity. Does anyone think another correction is coming?

    Spike just before 1 pm

    Posted: 29 May 2020 10:23 AM PDT

What was that seemingly random massive spike in the market just before 1 pm? Did I miss something? Nothing was moving and then every stock I'm looking at jumped 1-2% in 3 minutes

Why was NVDA so volatile this week?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 01:58 PM PDT

Does anyone have any idea why NVDA was so volatile this week? I'm trying to find a good entry point but not sure what direction it's going. I thought it was starting to dip and the next day it rallied again and now it's back to near all time highs. Do you guys think next week there will be more volatility and maybe another dip?

    Am I Missing Something

    Posted: 29 May 2020 10:06 AM PDT

Morning Stars, Three White Soldiers, Three Black Crows...

Why would anyone listen to "analysts" who project market movements by looking exclusively at the performance charts? Am I missing something?

Every other article on Seeking Alpha (which I understand might be the buzzfeed of fin analysis) hocks the next movement in the market based on the patterns on the graph indicating the performance of the market. How does this ever pass as analysis to rational adults?

Intuitively this seems like stone age people worshiping constellations because they can't explain natural phenomena. The graph is itself a fiat reflection of fundamentals and the game theory of the market, it does not obey any laws of motion unrelated to that reality.

Why does this method seem like the norm in forums rather than someone diving into the fundamentals?

Correlation of every stock in the S&P with the index itself

    Posted: 29 May 2020 10:06 AM PDT

I've found some online tools that show the correlation of individual S&P stocks with the index itself but is there any tool out there that shows the standard deviation of the correlation of every stock in the S&P with the index itself (because I assume the average would always be 1) - basically just giving 1 number on any specific date that shows the cumulative correlation of S&P stocks with the index itself?

What is the best free online site for stock market research and tips?

Or is a paid subscription a better way to go? If so, which subscription?

    Thank you.

What type of trading/investing will work best for me?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 07:37 AM PDT

    Watchlist: 5/29 Trumps's Fights - China & Twitter

    Posted: 29 May 2020 03:43 AM PDT

    Market Notes:

Yesterday morning President Trump signaled a crackdown on Twitter (TWTR) and all social media platforms with an executive order. The order was symbolic, retaliation for Twitter offering an alternative narrative to one of the President's tweets. Tech stocks suffered all day.

Markets were up broadly most of the day yesterday until the President announced a press conference about China. No other details have been provided. The administration appears to be supporting Beijing's Hong Kong crackdown. But continues to attack its the handling of COVID-19 crisis.

Markets finished in the red yesterday, selling off in the final hour. Futures are pointing to a lower open today. I'll be cautious today, may scale back position sizes to reduce risk.

    Watchlist:

TENX is a low float, watching for a setup above $1.60

NVUS is a low float, resistance at $1.40

HX is a low float, big runner yesterday, resistance is at $1.60

RNWK is a lowish float, watching for a setup above $2.20

ALRN is a lowish float, moving on news, watching for a setup above $1.40

ARPO is a lowish float, watching that $1.40 level here too

VRML watching for a setup above $3.34

HTBX is moving on COVID-19 news, resistance at $1.15

    NAK has support at $1.18
