I can't be the only one who hates "virtual happy hours".

    Posted: 15 May 2020 02:59 PM PDT

    1. I don't get to drink as fast as I feel entitled to
    2. I have to talk with managers and partners I have nothing in common with
    3. Half the time the aforementioned treat it as an extension of their ability to assign us work

It's awkward and it's at an awful time-the last thing I want to do on my Friday night is spend more time with my colleagues. I start dreading it at about noon on Friday. I'm thinking of starting to drink just before it starts so I won't care as much.

Does anyone else turn their email sounds way up and then do whatever you want?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 03:21 PM PDT

Extra points for responding to every email immediately, thus giving the impression that you're actually working.

You can study for CPA's, learn programming, read books etc. with that time.

LinkedIn should be renamed to Boomer Twitter

I think I have to uninstall the LinkedIn app from my phone. Some boomer just replied to a post on my company's LinkedIn page and I shit you not his reply was just one long never ending hashtag. It should have been three separate sentences. Now I have cancer.

I genuinely wish I never encountered Reddit and this sub

    Posted: 15 May 2020 08:49 PM PDT

This sub has made me rethink my whole college major and if it's worth it or not.

Everytime I wanna do some research about the future of my life in accounting it's always "this job is so boring and repetitive" "I cry myself to sleep" "I am not satisfied with my life at all" "I hate this career"

Now I'm always second guessing myself if this is worth it to end up sad and depressed and an alcoholic while I'm studying accounting.

Like is there nothing positive in your lives where it can radiate some positivity to future students?

I never expected accounting to be fun or interesting, but I never expected it to have so many people shit on it

Hi I need a reality check

    Posted: 15 May 2020 09:32 PM PDT

When I hear about busy season it doesn't scare me. The 50-80 hours honestly doesn't scare me because I come from a background of immigrants. I kid you not my parents worked no days off for years hours a day. No days off at all. I would remember my mother waking up at 6am and coming back evening tired just to do it again tomorrow.

Edit: no my mother is not some factory worker being enslaved working at 5cents an hour.

So the talk about a 3 month 50-80'hours a week does not scare me and I challenge it. I will gladly do it knowing there's a brighter future

This is the part where I need a reality check. Am I stupid for thinking this way and when I actually get the job, will it backfire on me in anyway?

Positions in danger of layoffs at Big 4?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 07:42 PM PDT

Which positions are most in danger should push come to shove? I have read pretty contradicting information with some saying it is usually the big boys who are the first to go and others saying it is the 1st years.

For disclosure I started at a Big 4 in Mobility Tax in September. Passed 5 exams so far, failed none with decent work feedback.

Feeling very nervous right now particularly because I dont expect much business to be coming into the Mobility side for the next year or so.

Understandable to leave firm to study Master’s after short period of time?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 07:08 PM PDT

Despite the controversy on whether a master's is useful or not, I plan to earn my master's. It's important to me, and I want to continue learning. I'm a current undergrad and received a few full-time offers to start working after undergrad. I want the experience of working and also need money.

Is it reasonable to work at a firm for less than a year, and leave to study master's (and apply to other firms after graduate school)?

Would I end up burning bridges at the first firm? would the short term employment followed by school confuse the future employers and set bad impressions?

    Is QuickBooks hard to learn?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 10:48 PM PDT

Hello everyone!, So I got a job offer from a family member and it's basically just putting the income and the spending of a business in a software called "QuickBooks". So I was wondering if it needs some kind of practice? Is it easy or should I try to learn about it before I accept the job?
