What should you use to brand your REAL NAME? A career choice or a hobby? Use first language or English?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 12:31 AM PDT

    Hello,

I'm 21 years old and I have many projects in mind. I would like to start off by using my REAL NAME as a brand, but i'm not sure which project I should associate it with.

I'm a computer science student who plans on having a career in coding. I would like to share life experiences and teach people how to code.

I also do music as a hobby. I'm not an expert, but I have a lot of knowledge, and would like to share my experience and teach people who wants to get into music production.

I have other projects, but those would be the main ones for now.

If any of you have experience with multiple businesses and having a project that uses your real name, please share.

My first language is french, so i'm also wondering if I should do my projects in English (higher reach potential) or french (less competition).

Thank you for your answers, have a nice day.

Which Business Major Is Most Valuable? Right for Me?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 11:08 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I know this is a hard question. I'm really hoping people in the work force will have some insight. I'm 24 years old, been working full time since high school and been doing classes part time. I'm at a reputable university and business school with a high GPA. It's almost time for me to decide on a major and I'm completely stumped. I work for the family business now which I thoroughly enjoy. There's a succession plan but I'm not sure I want work with family or do that forever. I was leaning towards majoring in Business Management because of versatility, until the program lead gave me a little unofficial advice that managers are placed by experience and she would recommend getting some hard skills before graduation and minor in management. I'm between Finance, Information Systems, Operations and Supply Chain, and Entrepreneurship. I'm hoping for a more fun and casual work culture, good pay, and ultimately don't want to be pigeon holed. Any advice or perspectives?

Researching credentials of private US firms..

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 11:00 PM PDT

Hi all, hope your all surviving in this unusual time. We are a construction/ built environment recruitment/ search firm working with US & UK clients. Markets tough now - we're using the time to do more research on the US.

Question: Does any one have any tips for researching public & private companies in the US? In the UK, we use creditsafe (not for credit checking purposes). It allows us to quickly see last reported turnover, share holders/ respective shareholdings by directors, company structure etc. As I understand, private US firms are not obliged to publish accounts and thus this information may be tougher to come by?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Could I become a successful entrepreneur with my condition?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 05:09 PM PDT

I was officially tested by a psychologist and it was determined I have an IQ in the low 80's and have some cognitive issues and very mild brain damage. That's what's stopping me and I feel I'll never be able to build a successful startup with that diagnosis. I feel less of a person than other people and less capable. I want honesty not pity. Thank you so much for your time.

Howbdo I apply for the stimulus federal grant?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 02:40 PM PDT

I read that the stimulus plan offers loans for businesses who do not let go of their employees, and if they don't, then the loan doesnt have to get repaid. How does one actually apply for it?

    Finders fee contract

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 12:46 PM PDT

So I have an opportunity to take over a book of business that has over 120million dollars in management. Potential making about 200-400 thousand a year. The opportunity was first presented to my boss. But with other reasons he will not be able to take it. He is trying to the guy who has the book to take me instead. But in return, my boss wants me to sign an agreement "finders fee" for giving me this opportunity. In the fee it states that I give him 10% of my salary and bonuses for as long as I have this book of business. Thoughts? Is that a reasonable rate or should I ask for a lower percentage.

What important lessons were learned during/after COVID-19?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 04:22 PM PDT

One thing I learned is how ridiculous it is to work an 8 hour work day. It's insanity. Studies have shown we are mostly productive for 2.5 to 3 hours per day.

One thing I hope for is for businesses to reevaluate the need of a 40 hour work week. I think it would be great to have the opposite philosophy of a salaried employee where the expectation is if you have more than 40 hours of work you have to get the work done if that means working over time. If we don't have any work or our tasks have been completed then we should be able to go home.

This isn't a new idea, but I feel like a lot of enterprises are stress testing this idea without taking into consider the actual implementation of it and the benefits afterwards.

If you were to start a side-business during COVID lockdown...

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 11:26 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I am a young (20) business owner. Due to COVID-19, my power washing business has had to stop operations completely. Even if it weren't for the warnings from my state government (NJ), I would not be operating right now anyways. I luckily don't have much monthly overhead, and I have enough saved to maintain the overhead I do have for several months with no income.

That being said, I don't want to just sit on my behind for several months without making money. I still have goals to reach for and personal debt to pay off, so I would much prefer an income (and a new adventure, to be quite honest).

My question to all you is fairly simple: assuming I had only a laptop and a fast-learning mind, what would you say is a good side-hustle to start? What will be not only surviving, but in demand during the COVID months to come? Marketing? Copywriting? Social Media management? I am willing to hit the books and do my homework to learn whatever skills I can, but I just need some guidance to decide where to aim. I don't want to waste time learning a skill just to realize COVID has killed that job/industry.

I am set on only working from home, as that is what I am most comfortable doing (it's gonna get bad in NJ soon). Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you!
