Dad had dog for 5 years, a girlfriend for 1. Girlfriend just stole his dog, what next?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 04:56 AM PST

My Dad's girlfriend just skipped town with his dog and is headed back to her home state 600 miles away. We have a police report filed, we have her home address, 5 years of vet records pulled as well as all messages lining up my Dad getting this dog. She isn't microchipped, I'm going to dig through her adoption paperwork today to see what else we've got claiming ownership. I'm also an animal groomer and have five years of her grooming photos saved, further proving ownership. What do we do next? What can we do? He's heartbroken- we're in Central MN and she drove with the dog back to Richmond, MO.

My dad is a correctional officer and he tells me stories about how he goes out of his way to hurt inmates. Can I record him talking about what he’s done and use it to prove in divorce court that he’s a dangerous man and should not have custody of may brother and I? (Michigan)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 09:16 PM PST

My dad is a C.O. and he works with mentally I'll patients. He goes out of his way to harm them and he gets away with it. Him and my Mother are getting a divorce soon and I want to record him confessing to hurting people and use that in court to prove that he's dangerous. Is this something I can legally do? He's an extremely abusive and manipulative person who has sexually assaulted me on many occasions.

I only agreed to having sex with a condom, is it illegal that he penetrated me without one?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:49 AM PST

Hi, I made a foolish decision to hook up with someone significantly older than me. I was 24 at the time, and he was 41. Before we had sex, I made it significantly clear that I wanted to use a condom. He used a condom at first. However, while we were cuddling afterwards, he surprised me by penetrating me without a condom without saying anything. I was really shocked and hurt, and I did not stop him because I found myself suddenly afraid of him.

    Thankfully, I am not pregnant.

And I am no longer in contact with him.

I am not looking to ruin his life or anything. I want to know if his action is legally considered sexual coercion or assault, so I can neatly label this experience in my head and move on.

I live in California, United States.

Thank you for letting me know that the law doesn't cover this as sexual coercion/assault here in the US. I was not looking to pursue legal action, but I wanted to know for my own sake. I will just move on thinking of him as an asshole.

Traffic ticket for a left turn where it is legal, but impossible

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:45 AM PST

A neighbor has asked me about this situation. I'm posting on her behalf.

My neighbor drives to work by the same route every day. She has to make a left turn at an intersection that has no dedicated left turn signal, but left turns are permitted at this intersection (a sign for left lane indicates both left turns and going straight are permitted from that lane). Every day people making left turns from that lane pull into the intersection when the light turns green, then wait for a break in oncoming traffic to proceed. However, during neighbor's commuting time, oncoming traffic is continuous until the light turns red. There is never any possibility of making the turn until after the light turns red. Every day for years, she and everyone else do the same thing: one or two cars pull into the intersection when the light turns green, wait until oncoming traffic stops when the light turns red, and then they proceed.

Last week, my neighbor was given a traffic ticket for running a red light when doing exactly this. The police officer said she must not even pull into the intersection until she is certain that she could proceed with her turn and pass entirely through the intersection before the light turns red. To comply, this would literally require waiting at the intersection for several hours until rush hour traffic subsides. My neighbor would like to inquire if the police officer's explanation of traffic law is correct, and if so, are these conditions reasonable grounds for contesting the ticket anyway?

Bought a car and have yet to recieve the title, 30 day tag is long expired.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:48 AM PST

I bought a car on 11/23, I paid with cash in full. The dealer is a licensed LLC, but is a small business. I was told I would recieve the title 3-5 business days after purchase in the mail. Its been well over 30 days, my temporary paper tag is expired and I still have not got the title. I have called several times and the receptionist assures me the owner will send it ASAP... I have a retail purchase agreement, and a buyers guide that came with the car thats it.

Location: Kansas, bought the car in Oklahoma

Legally what can I do? Im afraid of getting a hefty fine because I technically am driving illegally, and technically it is not my car.

Is my mom's partner of 18 years entitled to the house they used to share?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 08:32 AM PST

Hello! My mom and her boyfriend of 18 years recently split. He was the original owner of the home they shared, but he got in some trouble with the IRS so he transferred the deed completely over to my mom's name roughly ~12 years ago so the government wouldn't take the house. They live in California.

They split about 4 months ago, and my mom's ex's son moved from South America to start a new life in the states (he's not a citizen, not sure if that matters). The son is now threatening legal action against my mom if she doesn't buy him and his dad out from the house. Do they have any rights to the house? If so, what should my mom's next steps be? Seek counsel from a divorce lawyer?

    I really appreciate the help!

Ex-wife is violating the restraining order.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:37 AM PST

    Wisconsin.

About a month and a half ago, I called the police on my ex-wife for beating me up in front of my girlfriend and children. She was charged with assault and battery. Her initial hearing is in January so she is not convicted yet, but the court set up a temporary restraining order against her. She is not allowed to contact me whatsoever, especially though a third party.

Recently, my daughter has decided she wants to go move in with her grandmother in a different state. I think it is a wonderful idea as her grandmother can provide a life for her that neither me or her mother can. My daughter has been bullied at her new school and is now on anti-depressants. She is barely a teenager and is already depressed. It is very concerning for me and I just want my daughter to be happy. Obviously, my Mother needs permission from both me and my ex-wife in order for my daughter to live with her.

My ex-wife has been messaging my Mother saying the only way my daughter can go live with her is if I write a letter to her lawyer saying I lied about what happened that day and get her charges dropped. When my Mother confronted her saying its about my daughters happiness and not the court case, my ex wife said "[Me] knows what to do if he wants it to happen."

I have also been receiving text messages from my "daughter" harassing me to write a letter to my ex-wifes lawyer saying I lied about what happened. I know my ex-wife is messaging me through my daughter's phone but I have no proof of it. My daughter says it's her but I can tell when she is lying to protect her mother and I know the different way they both communicate.

I was wondering if these are considered bribery or a violation of the restraining order. I have messages from my daughter that state: "Mom says that you have to tell her lawyer that you lied so I can be happy." I think it's disgusting and since I have no proof of this being my ex wife, I'm wondering if I should even bother the police or the DA about these.

Thank you for all your help and advice.

Ex-partner wants to press assault charges and now I'm homeless.

    Ontario, Canada.

I posted in r/relationships and many recommended I come here as well.

    Update: https://www.reddit.com/r/relationships/comments/ehoza5/update_my_29f_partner_30m_might_have_cheated_with/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Basically, I found out that my partner was cheating and when I confronted him, he was screaming at me, threatening me, and calling me derogatory names less than an inch from my face.

I was terrified that he was going to hit me, so I lightly pushed him away so I could get out of that situation, police were called and he demanded I be charged with assault.

The police were extremely unprofessional and despite the death threats and harassment, I was told to leave my home, even though I'm on the lease.

I know I shouldn't have pushed him, I fully understand. He had me cornered and I thought he was going to hit me.

I spoke to a counselor at my local woman's shelter and I've spoken to a lawyer, but I'm just looking for any advice that could help my situation. I'm going to have to drop out of school and if I do get charged, I will lose the only, small part time job I have.

    Thank you.

    Pregnant and potentially getting fired

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 08:32 AM PST

I am worried I am about to be fired. Here are the facts.

    I live in Colorado.

    I started my job April 1, 2019.

This is a smaller business with maybe 10 locations throughout the nation. 50 plus employees.

The baby is due in February.

The pregnancy did not qualify for short term disability because it was considered a preexisting condition.

I saw my position posted online on Friday, December 27, 2019, it's been there for over 30 days.

I emailed my HR person on Friday and asked if this was my position. She said no, the owner has "many things in the works". Because of the size of the company I feel like we would know if there were similar positions available.

Maternity leave isn't paid for or guaranteed unless under fmla, which I don't qualify for yet. I am going to be just shy of a year when I am going to deliver the baby and need time off.

I've been saving my vacation days to pay for my maternity leave and time with my baby.

I plan on taking 6 weeks off.

This company doesn't pay out accrued vacation time if you leave or are terminated.

I'm afraid they plan on replacing me when I leave and are trying to get out of paying me for accrued vacation in addition to taking my job away.

Other things to know: This is a higher paying position.

I came from a larger company where things were done very differently and I have been vocal about disliking the differences and the micromanagement in the company.

My performance is satisfactory, but I believe they aren't blown away in my performance. They run things differently here and I have told them in the past I don't think it's a good fit because the culture is not supportive to my success like my old company's culture was.

I did have a 90 day review which stated my performance was good and have never been reprimanded or told differently.

Is my job protected in any way? If I were fired is there any legal recourse?

    Thanks.

Gym is suing me due to their failure to debit my account

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:15 AM PST

Hello! I'm going to try and sum this up. I worked out at a gym for 4 years. The last 12ish months i was working out, scanning in, and all was well. The gym apparently was not debiting my checking account for some reason and I never caught it. I came into the gym one day and they asked to hand over my card and would not give me a reason why my contract was terminated. I then received a letter from a lawyer saying I owe the gym fee ($600) plus attorney fees ($200) for $800 total to the lawyers/collection agency.

I decided to send a $600 check to the gym with a letter so they could have their payment. They ended up sending the letter and check back with a letter from the lawyer. The lawyer said I now owe them an additional $300 dollar in attorney fees due to waiting so long.

I contacted a local lawyer and he said I don't have a case and I just need to pay the attorney's office. I'm at a loss. Thoughts? I live in Tennessee

Restaurant attempting to sue me for using basic recipes

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 11:38 AM PST

Hello. About six years ago, I worked for a soup and sandwich restaurant in my hometown while attending college. My employment there did not end on good terms. Last year, the owners of this restaurant made several very controversial political remarks primarily about immigrants, public school employees, and Muslims. The owner went on the community Facebook page and basically said that since he was the only restaurant of his type in town (and honestly one of the few non-fast food options available) that he wasn't worried about losing customers and called people who were upset snowflakes, etc.

As mentioned earlier, my employment at this restaurant did not end positively, and I really think the owner is a grade A jerk. I decided that he maybe needed a bit of competition. I used my own money to build out a store front three blocks away from his in the downtown, hired a close friend to be the GM, and opened my own restaurant selling almost identical sandwiches. None of my food uses stolen or proprietary recipes. Examples of "copycat" food is: his restaurant has a club sandwich with turkey, bacon, cheddar, avocado, lettuce, tomato, mayo, my restaurant has the same; he has a Reuben sandwich, I also have Ruebens; he has a three cheese grilled cheese, I have a four cheese grilled cheese. All of my sauces and soups are my own recipes, nothing copied.

We have been open three months and seem to have put a large dent in his clientele. Today I received a cease and desist letter written by the owner himself threatening a lawsuit for copying his concept and "sandwich ideas".

I feel this is just an intimidation technique and want to tell him to go away ignore him until I receive something from an actual attorney. Thoughts?

I am the child of divorced parents and my mom received disability as child support until I was 19. I was told they over paid and I personally owe around $6k. 5 years ago I opened a reconsideration and it was dropped. I have been contacted again saying I owe $6k

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 11:48 AM PST

Between 18 and 19 when we were still receiving benefits I was working full time to pay rent as my mom could not work so I dropped out of high school and was in a program to get my ged. 5 years ago I went in and they said I would no longer owe the money because I would not realistically be able to pay it back while being able to afford the cost of living here in Colorado. I was told I do not owe and 5 years later they are saying one of their employees filled wrong and I should still owe them. They are also saying that they might owe me $700 so it is currently going back and forth between me owing them and them owing me. What should I do now? I can not pay back and afford all of my bills

$25,000 special assessment and corrupted documents - Did the title company do everything they needed to?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:47 AM PST

I bought a town house in April 2019 and in August 2019 I received a special assessment for foundation repair for $25,000. I'm trying to figure out if I have to pay this. The seller's disclosure mentions the foundation issues but makes it seem like the HOA is responsible for paying, which has turned out to not be the case.

I had worked with an attorney to send a letter to the HOA saying that the special assessment vote was taken before I owned the property. They responded saying they had disclosed there was going to be a special assessment. I was very surprised by this.

I looked back through my documents and I do have an email from the title company I used that contains HOA documents. There's a document in there that looks blank when I open it up in gmail, the file looks corrupted. If I download the document and open it up in another program, I see that they did indeed disclose there would be a special assessment levied in 2019.

This email thread has no reply or request for reply, it even seems like the title officer thought I was the seller instead of the buyer in this thread. These documents are not part of my closing packet and I never signed that I received these documents.

It seems like the HOA and seller acted as they should but the title company did not properly transmit and require receipt of these documents. If I had been able to view them properly before closing then I would have never bought the property.

Is there anything I can do here?

Edit: I'm in Texas. Sorry I forgot!

Landlord taking his sweet time fixing electricity [ON]

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 08:29 AM PST

I rent a commercial space in Ontario. The building has four units (three street level, one above). Well call them Unit A, B, C and D. I rent Unit C, and Unit D is the second floor.

This is an old building, and as such, has some wacky electrical wiring. Each unit has a breaker system, but all the shut-off switches are located in Unit A for some reason. There are four shut-off switches - one for Unit A, one for Unit B, one for Unit C and half of Unit D, and one for the other half of Unit D. Remember that!

Unit D had been vacant for about 15 years or more - up until about 2 years ago. Now that a tenant is renting it though, we've noticed our electric bill nearly double (more than double in some months). We didn't think much of it, and continued paying the bill as it came in. We called the local utility commission and asked why it was high, they said some generic excuse and that was that. I should note that Unit D has an "all-inclusive" lease where the landlord pays his utilities, whereas I do not.

One day Unit D's electrical goes out on the half that isn't connected to ours. He calls the power company, they come and start working on it. They flip the shut-off switches for his unit, and it shuts us off too. They had no idea it affected us until I bust down some doors asking what happened, as my work had been deleted as a result. I was irate. They investigated and came back to tell me that we are indeed connected, and I am paying for his usage. This explains why my bill skyrocketed shortly after he moved in. Never noticed it before because as I said, it was vacant for as long as we'd been renting.

I inform the landlord and he tells me it will be taken care of ASAP. Well, that ASAP status he put on it became weeks, months, now almost a year and counting. He's avoiding my calls, gives excuses when I run into him in person and just doesn't seem interested in fixing it. I am still paying for Unit D's electrical, and landlord does not seem to care. He stated that I will be reimbursed for whatever overages I paid, which I have to calculate based on monthly average billing prior to rental and after rental. He assured me by end of 2019 it would be resolved, but it is not. I threatened to withhold my rent until it is fixed, but he isn't having it.

Do I have any options for legal recourse at this point? WWYD in this situation?

Company disputed Christmas tip to coworkers - Indiana

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:28 AM PST

I work at a restaurant on the weekends and a few weeks ago, two workers received an $850 tip from a company Christmas party. They both cried and hugged the man who just said "merry Christmas" and left. Now, two weeks later, the company says that the man was not authorized to use the card (even though he was given it) and they disputed the tip. The restaurant is saying that the girls have to pay it back, even though it's Christmas time and that money is long gone.

Is this the correct way of dealing with this? Honestly it's a shitty situation all the way around, but I think it should be the company's job to deal with the rogue employee.

Rental house was sold. Old owners holding onto rent that was supposed to go to new owners.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:40 AM PST

The house I'm renting from Property Management Company A got sold. We were notified in early November that Property Management Company B would be assuming ownership on November 20th.

On November 26th, a letter is sent to my house stating that December 1st rent should be paid to Company B. (Note, this is in the USA when most people are away for Thanksgiving.) I get home from Thanksgiving on November 30th and did not open the letter until Sunday, December 1st. At this point, it was too late to cancel the online payment to Company A, as my rent is paid automatically through their online portal.

I notified both property management companies on Monday, December 2nd and explained the situation. Both seemed more than willing to work with me. I set in motion two avenues to get my December rent back so that I can pay Company B. First, I called the bank to file a dispute. Second, I put in a formal refund request with Company A.

Unfortunately, the bank couldn't do anything since the transaction was "authorized" (even though Company A has no right to that money).

So now I'm stuck waiting for a refund from Company A, and Company B is starting to get rightfully annoyed. I've been very patient with Company A, following up about once a week. They have, for the most part, left me in the dark about the status of my refund.

When I did get a bit aggressive, they followed up on December 18th letting me know that the check has been cut and is "waiting for a signature and will be mailed ASAP." I haven't heard anything since.

I left a message and texted Company A today It's been a month of waiting for my refund. This is not how I wanted to start off the relationship with Company B (I've literally never paid a single bill late in my life). What are my options?

My Mother's Mental Health is Declining but She has Legal Guardianship over my Older Brother who has Down Syndrome... Implications on her Custody if I Have Her Hospitalized [MI]

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 12:02 PM PST

    Hi all,

My mother have an undiagnosed mental condition (characterized by her beliefs that people are plotting to killer, self-isolation within her apartment, and an overall detachment from reality) and she currently lives with my younger sister and older brother in MA. She is the primary caretaker and is his guardian (we all officially got guardianship over him years ago).

She currently does not feel safe where she lives (though my sister and I believe that this is due to her illness) and she is planning to move to where I live in MI (Ingham County).

I am trying to get my mother to get a diagnosis and hopefully if and when she moves, I will be closer to her to try to get her into therapy or on medication if needed. However, if I am unable to get her to voluntarily get diagnosed, I intend to have her hospitalized voluntarily.

My legal question has to do with the implications of this regarding her guardianship over my brother. Will she lose guardianship over him is she is voluntarily or involuntarily hospitalized? What will happen to my brother if she loses guardianship? What are the possible scenarios? Are there any resources that I can look up on this?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Hound dog pulls free from owner and comes onto my property to attack my dog. After the fight, the owner and his wife come back and say their dog went to the vet and had to get stitches. They say that we are responsible. Do they have any grounds to do anything?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 12:25 PM PST

For starters, this happened in Missouri. So my two brothers, grandparents, and I were outside. We let my dog, a golden doodle named Buddy, outside. Then we hear barking and look up and across the street to see an older man with a hound dog walking. The hound dog is barking a lot at my dog. Buddy then runs to the front of the yard to watch the man and his dog. Buddy is not barking he is just watching. Buddy is also on an electric fence. When the man and his dog are directly across from buddy the other dog pulls and jumps to get buddy. The others dog's bark changed and started sounding aggressive, so buddy barked twice at this dog.The other dog pulls so hard that the man drops the leash. The other dog comes and rushes at buddy and tries to bite his neck. The dog fight for a second and go into the street. My brother ended up pulling the two dogs apart while the man just watches. The man said a quick sorry and grabbed the dogs leash and left. Twenty minutes later the man and his wife come back to my house. They ring the doorbell and talk to my brother, the one who pulled the dogs apart. They come and kinda of yell at my brother for not keeping buddy on a leash on our property. They also said that their dog is at the vet and had to get stitches in his head and foot because of the fight. Both dogs are blonde and after the fight we didn't see any blood on either dog. The wife says that we need to take care of the vet bills. When my brother asked for their name or any information they just walked away(there is a possibly that they just didn't hear him because they were older). Now we are waiting to see if they come back. What should we do? Do they have grounds to sue?

Boss arbitrarily withheld %90 of my paycheck and all my coworker's paychecks

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 12:24 PM PST

I went into work and received my paycheck yesterday, and was dumbfounded when I saw my paycheck was only $5 instead of my expected $60. I was even more surprised to find that all the other employee's paychecks were about %90-%80 less than they should be as well. I work at a local restaurant business and the explanation given to us by the owner was taxes. More specifically taxes on the cash tips we receive from take-out orders for the FULL YEAR. She told us she just assumed a generic amount of about $7 per day (which is not accurate) and multiplied that by the number of days we each worked. I feel very strongly that this is borderline illegal. Can she assume an amount for our tips and charge us taxes on it? Can she collect taxes for a full year on just a single paycheck? The whole situation just seems very sketchy to me and my fellow employees, but we just don't know what to do. Any advice is appreciated!

Working in a “sick building” for years. Management is apathetic.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:37 AM PST

I'm part of a small staff of municipal employees in a Massachusetts town. Our department is housed in the basement of a 100+ year old building. There is very little airflow in the basement. Our department is the only town office open to the general public for 70 hours per week. We are the only municipal employees that are non-union.

Around a year ago, myself and several of my coworkers started experiencing similar symptoms. Headaches, dizziness, fatigue, respiratory issues, mental fogginess, confusion. Symptoms only occurred when we were at work for long shifts. Several sought medical attention, unbeknownst to each other. After talking with one another, we figured it must be an environmental issue at our workplace.

We told our immediate supervisor, who had us fill out logs keeping track of our symptoms. We completed lots of paperwork for our worker's compensation insurance. Documented everything. Our immediate supervisor tried to find the cause. Air filters were cleaned and checked, and an environmental lab came and checked air quality. We did not have carbon monoxide detectors but they were installed after local press got word of the issues. They are not mandatory in buildings like ours, apparently. Air quality tests confirmed normal carbon monoxide levels. The resulting spore count was determined to be too low to be of any concern, so mold was not the issue. At one point, cleaning fluid from the boiler and spitting from forced heat radiators was suspected but then it was determined that it must be just an air quality/low oxygen situation. We were required to take "fresh-air" breaks at regular intervals. Our supervisor was responsive, but upper management pretty much disregarded our claims as "hysteria." Nothing else was really done as we were scheduled to move out of the building for a planned renovation.

We have since moved out, and as our old building is being renovated, some issues have been discovered. The building switched oil burners twenty years ago but left the old oil tank in the ground. While it was being dug up, a crack was discovered. We are not sure how much oil was left in the tank, but it is going to cost several thousands of dollars to remove it and clean the soil around it so the soil can be sold or disposed of properly. Very little details about this new information have been made public. Town officials have been talking about it in closed door "executive sessions." These sessions are not recorded and the public is not allowed at them. My staff and I only know about this because our supervisor clued us in. His only advice? Make a doctor's appointment.

Could exposure like this have caused our health issues? Again, we are open to the public and the majority of our visitors are the elderly and children under 5. A lot of my staff is near retirement age. One woman has had terrible migraines and she's been here for almost 20 years. She never thought her workplace could be contributing to these migraines.

I'm spitting mad about all of this, but not sure what to do. We don't know what recourse we can legally take at this point. Someone was negligent way back when, right? The town officials have changed several times since the 90s. Surely, this must be against some laws where employees were put in harm's way and no serious action or consideration of our complaints were taken by management. Town management has should incredibly disregard for our safety in the past in regards to snow/ice removal. But we're afraid to make too much stink because the town is in a budget crisis and there is a vocal minority in town that sees our department as redundant. We don't want to lose our jobs. Where would we start to look for information about our legal rights or does someone know what we should be doing to protect ourselves both for our current maladies and any future health issues that might arise from being exposed to heating oil fumes for who knows how long?

Gave my apartment notice - landlord says its not enough time.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 10:44 AM PST

    Hi,

I have an apartment in Hamilton Ontario Canada which is owned by a well know real estate company that pretty much owns all the apartment buildings in my area of Hamilton. I gave my notice at the beginning of December and today I get a letter from them saying I can move on the last day of FEBRUARY and I spoke to the landlord and says I'm responsible for the rent for January, if they can't find someone to rent my unit. Now seeing has I have given my notice at the beginning of December and I paid my December rent I also provided the last months rent when I moved into the apartment, so I don't see why I am responsible for paying January rent....I can't afford January's rent which is why I am moving out to begin with, is there anything I can do about this??? I flat out can't afford January's rent and this would ruin me finically.

I lost my job because FMLA wasn't sent back in time.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:09 AM PST

I went to rehab in Kentucky and spent 21 days there. My employer in Indiana sent FMLA paperwork to them, and when I got back home, I was told they never sent anything back to my job. Because of that, I was fired after 8 years of being with them. I can be rehired, but I feel this isn't my fault (even if technically it is.) Is there anything I can do about it?

Rapist keeps trying to contact me

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 11:34 PM PST

I (32f) was date raped by someone I thought was a friend. That was like 2 years ago. For the last year he has persisted in trying to contact me, offering me molly and ghb to help loosen me up. Every place I have blocked him ( facebook, gtalk, email, text) he will find a new way to try to contact me. I accidentally unblocked him on Facebook earlier tonight and facebook won't let me reblock for 48 hours. Within hours he was messaging me and trying to friend me on Facebook again. Every time he contacts me it sets off my ptsd bad. My friends have suggested I get a protection order, I'm in Washington state.

I know I can't get him arrested for rape. It would turn into a he said she said. But can I try to get a no contact/protection order against him without trying to press charges?

Previous employer retroactively cancelled my insurance, never got info on COBRA. Now I have a collection bill from the old insurance company for over $5,000 in my specialty medication.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 10:30 AM PST

I live and work in virginia.

I left my last job at the end of July. Since putting in my 2 weeks, I kept asking about COBRA and when to expect the letter for coverage. I kept being told it is coming. Well, the letter never came.

However, my insurance still worked, which was good because I take a lot of life saving medication. I got the claim summaries in the mail as usual. Life carried on, and I kept getting told the letter was coming. In mid September, a prescription was denied through the insurance. I contacted my former employer, and was finally given a website (despite asking for a month and a half.) I decided not to sign up for COBRA though because I could afford my medications through voucher programs, and I couldn't afford the $1,500 for 2 months of insurance. And my new insurance started in 2 weeks.

My new insurance kicked in October 1st.

On December 3rd I got a letter from my old insurance, then a letter from a collection agency saying I owe them over $5,000. I had been traveling most of december, and didn't get the letter until a few days ago. I could have gotten my medication for free without insurance if they had actually terminated my benefits like they were supposed to, or if I even knew this was coming. My previous employer didn't report my loss of coverage until october.

The old insurance company, pharmacy, and drug manufacterer have been of no help. I know my previous employer will just deny it, and refuse to do anything. The collection agency said they will take 50% of it if I pay it all today (cant afford that) or I can pay $100 a month until it's all paid off (also can't afford that.) I will get 2 more letters if I don't pay, then it will go back to the insurance company who will take me to court.

I don't have $5,000. I don't know what kind of lawyer I would need, or where to start. It's too late to sign up for COBRA now.
