Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:24 PM PST I [19,M] was in the tiniest of fender benders (if you can even call it that). This happened around April of 2018. I know, I know its been a long time. I was stopped at a red light and turned my head to talk to my girlfriend in the car. I inched forward going less than 5 mph as my foot released off the brake and my front bumper kissed the back of his. I was in the process of going to work and it was my first accident; thus in all the commotion I didn't take pictures and I said sorry. I got his information and the pictures he took and the damages to his car in the pictures did not match what happened in the accident. I filed my claim with insurance and he did with his. He claimed injuries to his neck and more damages to his vehicle. I have since switched insurances from a CA Low Cost Auto Insurance Program through Mercury to Geico. My insurance quote from Geico went from being fair to absurdly expensive due to "accident involving injuries to the other party". I paid it due to me not having insurance for 3-4 days and the payment process for the Low Cost Insurance program being a nightmare. Can I fight this or am I up a creek without a paddle due to me confirming the amount through Geico? Do I have any recourse? Edit: I'd like to add it was injuries sustained to the neck apparently if that changes anything [link] [comments] |
Switched from Florida BlueOptions Bronze to Florida BlueOptions Gold Posted: 05 Nov 2019 12:17 AM PST I stumbled across healthcare.gov after I found out that neither me or my mom were covered by our previous insurance. I was living on campus at university at the time and since the school was already taking all of my financial aid, I hurriedly applied for the insurance and got BlueOptions Bronze thinking that it would be better for us (didn't realize we qualified for the tax credit until too late). I switched from a really high deductible to a lower one and I wanted to know if I have a wider range of options with Florida BlueOptions Gold (I know it apparently covers 80%) as opposed to Florida BlueOptions Bronze (covers only 60%) [link] [comments] |
Anyway to file a complaint about insurance adjuster? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:04 PM PST Essentially my SR-22 was dropped without my knowledge by my insurance adjuster. I was driving on a suspended license without my knowledge for a week and a half. Once I got the letter I've been ubering and contacted my insurance. He said he took it off cause he didn't think it was still needed. His negligence now has my license suspended for at least 30 days, as well is costing me uber fares. I was just curious if there was anyway to file a complaint through Progressive? Also I know it was my decision to drink and drive which led to the SR-22 however this was almost two years ago. I learned and I'm just about done with all of this! Just frustrating I'm 7 months away and this character has to go throw things out of whack. [link] [comments] |
Uk car insurance. Changing vehicles. Posted: 05 Nov 2019 04:02 AM PST Hello, I hope my post falls within the guidelines. I'm looking to change my vehicle over the next fortnight, I have 7 years no claims on my current vehicle which I would like to transfer to my new vehicle. Of course, I can't use my no claims (NCD) on 2 vehicles, so would mean either taking out a policy on the new vehicle without NCD, or relinquishing NCD on my existing policy, both of which make roughly a £300 difference on the policies. Whilst I won't be driving my existing car once the new one arrives, I don't want to leave it uninsured on the driveway whilst I try and sell it. So I accept for a brief period I will need 2 policies. The second vehicle is a commercial, so my existing insurer may not cover it. On comparison sites, there are providors which offer much cheaper insurance with 0 NCD on my existing car, could I change to them and pay monthly, knowing I'll cancel once the cars sold or would I be then liable for paying the remaining term? Equally if I took out insurance on the new vehicle without NCD, could I add NCD once my existing cars sold and expect a discount? I'm a little confused if Im honest! Any advice appreciated. 19M need advice on car insurance Posted: 05 Nov 2019 02:47 AM PST I live in Florida btw Well since I got promoted recently I wanted to treat myself to a new(new to me) car, a 06'/07' corvette coupe. Im waiting until after New Years to get it just to settle into my position more before I hurry and get a 20k loan for this car. Currently I bring in $1800-$2000 a month and I live with my parents but I pay the water bill which is 60-100 a month, other than spending money on food and gas I just save it. My insurance provider is Geico and I got a quote for 275 for it which I thought was a deal because my dad said to ask for the literal bare minimum for full coverage, until I realized having that could destroy me financially in the long run. So I hear calling for rates are cheaper than the online ones. What I have listed now is Use of vehicle is commute(less than 5000 miles a year) I'm not a student or any of that other stuff they ask. Clean record 50000 property 10/20 body injury liability(this is what I would like advice with) No uninsured motorist coverage(I read 26% of Floridian drivers are uninsured so I should probably get that) PIP insured with Excld work loss 10000/500 deductible (still confused with this) 500 comp/750 coll Which comes out to 317 a month 100/300 bodily injury liability makes it 410 which is kinda.. oof. I really want to protect my ass because I don't text and drive ever or get distracted as I'm a very attentive and aware driver. I of course can say I never see myself being at fault, but obviously anything can happen. BUT My aunt said if I attend school she'd be willing to help me with my insurance, not sure if we split 50/50 or she will pay it all off I'm not sure yet. I'm also looking into buying a dashcam Pls help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Nov 2019 02:32 AM PST I bought a RAV4 hybrid about 5 weeks ago. I was slowing down due to heavy traffic today when the person behind me was rear ended. This caused them to lose control and slam into my driver side. The person at fault also lost control and slammed into my passenger side. So I was pretty much just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I haven't heard anything yet from insurance, but I have lots of questions. My first question is how are they going to come up with a repair total? Will it be done just based on what damage can be seen? Or will it be taken to a shop where things will be taken apart and then evaluated? Since it's a hybrid, I don't want anyone touching it except the Toyota dealership. Will someone contact me before anyone touches it? My next question is what happens next if it does get repaired? Like I said above, I only want it fixed by Toyota if it isn't totaled. I know that isn't a preferred repair center, so will insurance only cover x amount and the rest is on me? And since it's brand new and received significant damage, is there anything I can do to recover the loss of value on that? My final question is what happens if it's totaled? I paid $32,000 for it 5 weeks ago and KBB is saying I could only get $25,000 for it today. I know if it's totaled I won't be receiving $32,000 for it.. so am I just supposed to accept the fact that I just lost $7,000 because someone wasn't paying attention? Sorry for so many questions. I'm just scared I'm about to take a loss financially no matter the outcome. Thanks I'm advance! Edit to add: I'm located in Lubbock county and it's a 2019 just in case any of that matters! Why won't HR give me the new summary of benefits for this year? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:17 PM PST It's enrollment time for our company and we were given some information about the new insurance plan but HR won't give me the new summary of benefits. Safeway Insurance, What is Going on? Santa Fe, I live in Denver. Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:24 PM PST So I get rear ended 300 miles from my home in Vacation in Santa Fe, I dialed 911 and both cars were moved off the side of the road. The police got the drivers information, let him go and then interviewed me, he said it was a cut and dry case. I was stationary and he said he wasn't paying attention and looked up and read ended me 1/2 second after it went green. He was cited for careless driving but let go, I got no ticket but do not live in Santa Fe. I manager to have my father pick the car up from impound and tow it back to Colorado, Yay... Finally after much headache and overnighting an envelope with a 5$ check and another overnight envelop inside of it to get my police report I finally have it! Yay I thought I can initiate this process. Safeway finally calls my insurance admits 100% fault and then just hangs up the phone before talking to me. I call this lady back 5x, I've called her a lot at this point nothing happens. I file a BBB complaint against Safeway because it seems like they respond to BBB complaints better than anything else and I can't talk to anybody. The next morning my Safeway agent calls me and calls me a liar for my compliant blah blah blah I try and be cordial, she informs they absolutely wont be paying for my rental car and that I should've claimed this with StateFarm paid my deductible and gone through subrogation, she also responds to the BBB saying that SateFarm said they wanted to subrogation which is a lie which I have proof of, she also claimed my statefarm adjuster lied as well. I have never been in a car accident before so this is my first instance. I say that's BS your driver hit me got ticketed you have admitted fault how is this on me at all. So I disputed the BBB claim with proof they have lied and not acted in good faith but I know they are just a glorified ad agency, I reached out to every Super Intendant of the New Mexico Department of Insurance to file a complaint and left super nice messages..... Also I dont have rental car insurance so Im out 1000$ for my rental car for the return destination fee. Sorry for this wall of text, but what the fuck do I do, Im ready for a lawyer, I feel like paying $2,000 for my deductible for subrogation is pointless at this point if I already am out 1000$ for my rental and Safeway are doing a 3rd party adjuster. Car is a 2010 Audi S4 my dream car that modified and not really replaceable, KBB 15,000 Damage is ~$9000 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:47 AM PST So generally this: On 10/18/2019 I was in an accident where the other party failed to yield right-of-way and we hit. The police report says this as well as that I had "no contributing actions". His insurance (Vermont Mutual if it matters) denied liability. I called them today and they have no appeals process for a decision and stated that the appeals process is to go through my own insurance to get repairs done. First off, this doesn't seem right, how is there no way to appeal an adjuster's decision? What other options do I have? I've heard that insurance companies will take care of the court stuff for you, but does that only apply if you have full coverage? I only had liability on the car because I'm dead broke and about to go homeless as is... I've done some of the repairs myself, will that affect this? I couldn't afford the rental car after the first week (couldn't afford it in the first place but thought this was an open/shut case and I'd get reimbursed) so I got used parts from a local scrap yard to fix the car enough to drive it to/from work, but there's still damage that needs to be repaired. Help! I'm lost and I have no idea how to get out of this nightmare... Located in Maine, USA. I have GEICO if that matters. [link] [comments] |
How to lower premium after DUI? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:57 PM PST 2019 not has not been a good year. I was in a car accident in February, where I took a total loss and then received a DUI about a month after. Since then, my insurance has gone up an absurd amount and I need help! Before my accident I was paying about $180 a month for my Audi and then bought a new car after the accident. The new rate was $280 and after some shopping seemed to be the new norm after my total loss claim. Well it got even higher. I received a .08 DUI and just received my updated policy.... it's up to $400 a month!! I financed the car, which requires that I have full coverage, but I just cannot afford this rate (Lost job). I'm wondering what options I have or loopholes I can use to bring this back down to around $200? I am considering buying an full coverage insurance policy under a relatives name and just keeping a liability policy for myself, but I'm not sure if this would have a repercussions. Has anyone tried this or have any better suggestions? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:50 PM PST Hey guys. Yesterday I drove into a pothole and my tire popped. Called my bf, cause I was right next to his house, to come and fix it and he did. However, he put the jack in the wrong spot and damaged my car. He bent the frame and now my passenger side door won't open. I really need it fixed. Should I have HIM file it though his insurance? Or does it have to go through mine? (don't really want to go through mine because they try to raise my premium every chance they get)damage [link] [comments] |
(LA county, CA) Will requesting an unneeded SR-22 raise my insurance prices? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:36 PM PST I am 18 and recently got my license, and while my mom was adding me to her policy online we selected a request for a SR-22 (we had mistaken it for something else). Upon further research, it turns out we have had no situation where one would be required so it's unneeded. We got an email saying they would be unable to process it online and to call in if we needed it. But my mom is worried that just the act of selecting the request for one will raise our insurance and make the insurance company suspicious. Is this true? Should we be worried or take any action? How long does Geico give me a rental car for? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:03 PM PST Got in a small crash, the other guy's insurance is taking full liability. Over the phone, I was told: "the rental is reserved for the reasonable repair time of your vehicle". Does that mean that if the shop takes a little longer than what Geico expects it to take, then I'm on my own without the rental? Also, do I get to pick the vehicle? I don't want to end up with a gas guzzler pickup truck nor a small sedan. I need cargo space for my tools and equipment. Lastly, I think they only seem to focus on exterior damage. Tomorrow I'm taking it to a shop they specified to inspect the damage. Will they also cover my wheel alignment? [link] [comments] |
Who has the best ranking for medicare advantage plans as far as hospital claims paying ability? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:09 PM PST I am a 21 year old male currently insured with progressive since I do have a not-a-fault accident I understand my insurance primaries will be more expensive. I recently had to help someone get insurance and we had to go thru a insurance broker to get him covered. Why you may ask? Because none of the insurance companies (Progressive, Geico, StateFarm, AllState, and etc) we did online quotes with was in his price range (young male with bad history). I know that larger insurance companies give at risk drivers/young drivers very expensive policies to try to prepare for accident due to a significant chance of an accident or to essentially discourage them from getting insurance with them. So this experience made me wonder so I have 2 questions and a hypothetical scenario I would like an answer given by the wise people of r/Insurance. Questions 1: I understand shopping for insurance is important, should I given a broker my information to see if he/she can get me a better rate or continue to shop around directly with insurance companies very so often? Question 2: Considering smaller insurance companies aren't as fiscally sound as larger ones (Progressive/Geico/StateFarm/AllState) would I be placing myself at risk by going with a smaller insurance company then them? Finally, I would like to know if you a clean record and was young (18-21) and required to get insurance by yourself how would you go about it? What about if you had a non so clean record? Thanks in advance for any replies and any suggestions are always welcome. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:52 AM PST The Dispute: Last week while riding my motorcycle and 1-2 seconds after my initial acceleration from a stop in the left lane at a newly-turned green light, I was involved in a 3-person accident. Driver 1 was going the opposite direction and failed to yield while turning left, assuming a green arrow when there was none. So Driver 1 hit me and pushed me into the right lane, causing my bike to side swipe Driver 3 (as I consider myself Driver 2). I was thrown from my bike, rag-dolled a bit, and landed on my back but was able to stand up almost immediately (ATGATT people!!!). I rolled up my jeans to feel/examine the affected leg and nothing seemed life-/quality-of-life-threatening so I declined an ambulance at the scene. This caused the police then to decline writing an accident report, citing no injuries (despite my minimal but real road rash, bruising, and burns). In fact, Driver 1 was not even cited for any infraction despite failing to yield. Anyway, in advance, I'll be fine, thanks. I saw my doctor the next day and am currently under his care. I have linked a crappy MSPaint diagram. The Legal Part: Both myself and Driver 3 have given our accounts to Driver 1's insurance carrier and they have already determined Driver 1 to be 100% liable. I have since come to find out that I made a mistake after purchasing my bike, and as a result my insurance never kicked in, so I was uncovered at the time of the accident. Double unfortunately, Driver 1 is an international student at a local college and has the minimum liability coverage of $5,000; however, Driver 3 does indeed have their own collision coverage. My bike will likely be totaled, and its FMV was around $3,000. I do not yet know the cost of repairs for Driver 3's vehicle, but it is likely to exceed the minimum payout when added to my totaled bike. In the case that Driver 1's liability coverage cannot cover Driver 3's total cost after paying out for my bike, and Driver 3's insurance eats the difference via their collision coverage, how likely is it that Driver 3's insurance will come after me for the difference? I fear that I will be a much more attractive target for Driver 3's insurance carrier since Driver 1 is a foreign national and college student. Have you all had any similar experiences wherein a judge or jury actually found Driver 2 (me) liable since technically Driver 1 never touched Driver 3 even given the fact the entire accident was the result of Driver 1's negligence, a finding that their own insurance company has stipulated? I have not yet spoken to Driver 3's insurance carrier yet. I assume that Driver 3 told their insurance the same thing that they told Driver 1's insurance, which is the same thing that I told Driver 1's insurance: what you see written above, aka what happened. Before you all tell me to call a lawyer, I called a motorcycle-specific attorney for a consultation the next morning. Given my lack of insurance and two other vehicles involved, he declined to assist me and was generally an ass; though, at that time I did not yet know Driver 1's insurance would accept 100% liability. Yes, I'm incredibly lucky on about 9 or 10 or 1,000 levels. The cops at the scene reminded me many times (all 3 are bikers in their free time). [link] [comments] |
How to estimate income as a freelancer Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:47 AM PST Hey everyone, this will be my second year purchasing health insurance. I'm working for myself as a freelance software engineer. When I was signing up for insurance the first time, they asked me to estimate my income. I said $30k for 2019. However, in the middle of the year, the contracts dried up, and now I'll probably only be making about $16k. I want to switch to a cheaper plan now, and I am being asked to estimate my income for 2020. I'm going to try a lot harder this year to reach $30k, so should I write this as my income estimate? Or should I be "realistic" and say $16k since that's what I made this year? Not sure if this helps, but my actual skillset commands about $60-80k in my area, I'm just really bad at sales and marketing. :/ I live in Pennsylvania (USA). Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Employer health care screenings Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:20 PM PST I need clarification on health insurance. My employer is self insured and they "make" us do a health screening. If we don't participate, we are given higher rates. Are they allowed to do this? We have always been given the option to earn points for lower premiums. New this year, we are now penalized for not earning extra points even if we did the health screening. Basically, health screening is 200 points but we need 500 points or else we're considered a "non participant" and therefore get the much higher rates (I'm looking at $150 increase per pay period from last year). How can they penalize us for not earning these points? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:52 PM PST Was involved in a collision, insurance deemed them 100% at fault. They repaired my vehicle. Collision center released my vehicle back to me two weeks ago. I just received a check in only my name for a different amount than what the collision center charged insurance. Is this a settlement check? I havent received anything else from them, and was told since i went with their certified Collision center that theyd be paying them directly. Should i just call them and ask? Thanks! AZ - Car Backed Into My Open Rear Passenger Door (their insurance says 50/50) Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:04 AM PST Hi, all. I previously posted in r/legaladvice and was encouraged to follow up here. So on 10/9/19 my family and myself were going out to eat and parked in a restaurant parking lot in Arizona. Our car was turned off. We opened our doors to exit our vehicle and within 30 seconds of the doors being opened another driver backed into our open rear-passenger side door. I don't know if they were trying to back into the spot next to us or adjust their parking job (they were originally parked directly behind us, in a spot opposite ours). Thankfully no one was injured. The other party made comments to the effect of, "Sorry, I didn't even see you there" and "Normally my car beeps at me when something's in the way." He, the other party, seemed reluctant to give me his insurance information at first - and kept saying, "It's amazing how there's no damage" while looking at our door. I said, "I'm not a mechanic and I'll need to take it to a shop to get it looked at." He eventually got his insurance information after I asked several times. We exchanged info and before we parted ways he said something to the effect of, "That's what insurance is for and if there's any damage of course we'll (he was with his wife) cover it." I contacted my insurance company that night and explained what happened. I took it to a preferred shop and had it looked at. There was roughly $340 in damage/repairs needed. My deductible is $1,000. My insurance company determined that the other driver was 100% at fault. However, despite my insurance acknowledging that the other party is 100% liable, I have been told that my insurance company has no financial interest in the case so I'm basically on my own trying to get the other party's insurance company to pay for my damages. Well, the other party's insurance company has determined 50/50 liability (I learned this 10/23 via my own insurance's adjuster). Upon hearing that the other insurance company, Amica, is only accepting 50/50 liability I reached out to the restaurant to see if they had tapes. They do record their lot but apparently that footage was overwritten (overwrites every two weeks). I did take pictures, created a scene diagram, and provided a recorded statement to my own insurance company. The other party's insurance never reached out to me. I am flabbergasted that they are claiming 50/50 liability when only the other party had a moving/operating vehicle at the time. I reached out to the adjuster at Amica, the other party's insurer, requesting all documentation they used to reach their decision. They basically told me it's my word against their insureds (who told them my passenger opened the door at the last second - which is a lie) so they reached 50/50. Despite this, they have not requested I get my damage inspected at a preferred shop of theirs or reached out to me in any way. I called the other party and expressed that I felt I was not at fault at all and wondered whether he was willing to go to small claims over this. He expressed he would be fine paying my damages out of pocket while I pay nothing of his. I followed up over email and he restated this position. I sent the email to my adjuster who forwarded it to his insurance. Apparently the other party's insurance is now trying to follow up with their insured about his offer (I have a feeling he'll not respond or will lie - though I have the receipts). My questions are: whether the other party's offer to pay for 100% of my damages out of pocket will affect his insurance's liability decision? Is there a timeline his insurance has to follow to close the claim (again, they haven't requested I get the damage inspected or contacted me and it's been almost a month)? Whether the next best step would be to send a demand letter for the repair of my vehicle? Are there any AZ traffic/parking lot laws that are in my favor here? TLDR: Our car's open door got backed into, when our car was parked and off, and now the other party's insurance says there's 50/50 liability. What can I do? [link] [comments] |
Hail Damage probably gonna total my car. What does that really mean? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:19 PM PST I'm in Texas and I have a 2015 Nissan Altima. There's a good chance my car will be totaled because it took a ton of hail damage in the storm a couple weeks ago. What does that mean? If I take the money I lose my car? I don't really understand how this works. [link] [comments] |
[CA] Did something illegal happen? I don't know what to do to proceed. Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:14 PM PST Excuse me that English not my original language. I purchased used motorcycle from friend 1 years ago and he said to put down "GIFT" on the title tranfer at the DMV, so I paid no sales tax. Today my motor was stolen and I have comprehensive coverage that covers the theft. I alert my insurance and do police report. Now, insurance request from me to fill out many forms and for part of it they ask me what is the "purchase price" and how much "tax paid" on the moto when I purchase it. Questions:
I obviously must fill out forms and I have a phone interview in a few days with insurance about my moto. My friend is starting to worry me and I do not want to make trouble/problem for the DMV government or my insurance, but also my moto was stolen and it was around $2,900 moto. [link] [comments] |
