If your question is "I have $10,000, what do I do?" or other "advice for my personal situation" questions. If you are going to ask how to invest you should include relevant information, such as the following:

    • How old are you?
    • Are you employed/making income? How much?
    • What are your objectives with this money? (buy a house? Retirement savings?)
    • What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)
    • What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)
    • Any other assets? House paid off? Cars? Expensive significant other?
    • What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?
    • Any big debts?
    • Any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer.

Please consider consulting our FAQ first - https://www.reddit.com/r/investing/wiki/faq

I cannot express enough the importance of having access to a professional database along with current detailed professional reports on specific securities or mutual funds. Some examples of data you can use are:

    • Fair value uncertainty (How confident analysts are on the intrinsic value of a stock)
    • Intrinsic Value
    • Economic Moat
    • Incredibly detailed sector reports
    • Incredibly detailed reports on specific stocks
    • Leadership quality (stewardship)

and much much more... In addition, you can build your own stock screener to look for specific attributes that you may want. Example: https://imgur.com/a/v9ZU0ts

Where to invest my first €15k

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 02:59 AM PDT

Hey guys so I moved out of my parent's house not too long ago and started studying engineering. (Doesn't really matter but it's just to give context) I've been given a decent amount of money to help me out in my first investments and would like to ask you guys , where would you invest your first 15 000€? Would you invest that much straight away? Would you wait to make some more money before investing ? Is it worth investing this much this early on in life?

Given current record high $1T deficits while not in a recession, are US companies anticipating higher corp tax rates going forward? I don't see Uncle Sam cutting spending, much less during a recession. Higher future corp tax rates have not been brought up at all in any earnings call so far.

Good Vanguard small cap fund to add to Roth

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 07:59 PM PDT

Hi, just opened my Roth IRA this year. Have about $5,000 in VTI and will be exchanging for VTSAX in the future. With that said, what are thoughts on doing 80/20 with VTSAX plus a small cap fund added in? Just looking for another fund to diversify. Thanks!

A merger of Oracle and Amazon would give AWS clients the security of Oracle's Gen 2 infrastructure and access to their huge database business

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 04:10 AM PDT

"The design goal of Oracle's Gen 2 Cloud is one secure platform to run everything," Larry Ellison told the OpenWorld conference on Monday morning. "It's easy to say, very hard to do, to build a secure cloud."

Oracle has struggled to grow its cloud business.

The low hanging workloads that could be easily migrated to the cloud have largely already migrated and driven growth at AWS. But the remaining workloads are mostly mission critical and have high security requirements.

That makes a possible merger an attractive scenario for both parties.

The one problem is such a large merger would attract a lot of scrutiny from regulators.

This is not a recommendation to buy or sell. Stocks are risky and not suitable for everybody. Please do your own research.

Anyone have experience with Interactive Brokers PortfolioAnalyst online tool/software?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 12:10 PM PDT

I saw that Interactive Brokers offers this really interesting PortfolioAnalyst tool that links to all of your bank accounts, credit cards, brokerage accounts, mortgages/loans, and other accounts like Mint.com or Personal Capital does, but they claim it is more sophisticated and advanced for managing everything and viewing the data. Does anyone have experience using the PortfolioAnalyst tool/view they offer and can provide feedback on how it compares to Mint.com, Personal Capital, and or Fidelity's "Full View"?

The Feds are lowering interest rates and Ray Dalio said they will NEVER raise it in the next 2 years. But....

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 11:01 PM PDT

Aren't interest rates are already negative in some EU countries. So, what implications are we going to see in the U.S that is already happening or going to happen in E.U. How does lowering (or negative) interest rate is going to affect the economy (US and EU)

How do you search for under-valued alternatives to US market?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 02:10 AM PDT

It's pretty hard to get any advice how to invest into non-US markets at least on Reddit. They say: "Don't try to time the market", but I am personally scared to put money on overvalued US market. There is no much room for growth in my opinion.

Looking to find some information about investing into other markets, developing/emerging or other value markets. Country-wise that could be: Russia, Nigeria, Pakistan perhaps Poland...I am willing to invest into seemingly riskier than SP500 assets and diversify over few places.

Any hints as how to search for that info?

Thoughts on VMWare? Seems like a good buy.

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 01:08 PM PDT

After dropping 25% to a lower of $130 in August, VMWare is starting to recover and touched $160 again just yesterday. Earlier this year it was trading at $200+ and it could very well reach those highs in the coming weeks. VMWare has decent management and I can think of no superior virtualization product on the market. I know hundreds of startups that have VMware licenses, not to mention universities/research groups who require the technology. What are your thoughts on VMWare? Seems like a good buy, and a good hold for 1-year+.

    Thoughts on Starbucks?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 08:32 AM PDT

I've typically been a very focused investor, with most of my investments in companies I know well for the past 5 years.

Made a killing off of Paypal and decided to take profit. I then moved a portion of that money and put 10k into Starbucks calls that expire in 2020 with a $90 strike..originally I thought this wasn't too bad as I entered in during it's potential bottom and now it's looking a bit better. However after doing about 3 days of research and balance sheet checking..I still feel a bit ignorant as to what the future might hold for Starbucks and how the earnings might play out. I'm properly hedged against minimal-moderate risk.

What have your opinions been? anyone feeling wary ahead of earnings? I'm thinking their move towards delivery and their membership card member increase might be great points (hopefully)

    How would you invest $10mm?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 09:13 PM PDT

If you had $10mm, how would you invest your money to fund your annual expenses while still growing the principal? Maybe assume annual expenses of 100k.

Some sort of equity/fixed income split for regular cash flows at modest returns? BB bond index is yielding sub 5% and s&p 500 dividends are sub 3%...

Or would you invest in real estate, small business, franchise, etc? There is a potential for higher return if done thoughtfully, but would take much more time to manage.

Reading an S-1 - Question on Shares outstanding on the IPO date

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 01:06 PM PDT

I'm trying to figure out where in the S-1 tells you exactly how many shares will be available for trade on an IPO.

Specifically, I read that Datadog ( https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1561550/000119312519227783/d745413ds1.htm ) on its IPO date was valued at $10.9 B at a price of $40.50 representing 269.1 M shares (10,900,000,000 / 40.50). However, reading the S-1, I couldn't find a section that was close to 200+ M shares being listed. Where do you find this?

Is the price of an indexed ETF fixed to underlying?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 07:36 PM PDT

I want to buy an ETF that is pegged to an index. The index holds different percentages of say a 100 stocks.

My understanding of ETFs is that they are just a convenient way of replicating the portfolio of stocks in the index, meaning the price of the ETF should always be equal to the weighted average of the prices of the underlying stocks in the index (minus management fees). Is that true or am i totally wrong about how ETFs work? Since they trade on exchanges like other stocks could the price just be up in the air independent of the underlyings?
