Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:21 AM PDT Welcome to this week's Peer Support and Self Management Thread. This is a Safe Place to Vent, Seek Emotional Support, Share Self Management Techniques and Experiences, or Just Rant. The goal for this thread is to help one another manage mental and physical health so we can more easily find success. We all struggle sometimes and it is important to recognize that the struggle is part of the journey. The important thing is to learn how to overcome that adversity to grow and succeed. Be tactful and classy in how you vent your feelings and share your frustrations. Act in a mature manner. Ask questions, share experiences, and be there for one another. Practice empathy in giving advice and remember that what worked for you isn't guaranteed to work for others. Make suggestions, not demands of others. Because this is meant to be a safe place to support emotional and physical health--well being--there is a zero tolerance policy in effect. Be KIND. Be sure to report any conduct that is in violation of that key tenet. You can also find more support using instant chat on the /r/startups discord. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:20 AM PDT Welcome to this week's Sunday's Success Stories Thread. A lot of us get way too hung up on the destination and the fact that we are not there yet. It is important to take a moment to reflect on a great quote from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., "The steps you take don't need to be big, they just need to take you in the right direction"- Jemma Simmons This is extremely relevant to all of us in this community. We should all be more aware of the successes we achieve every day that carry us closer to our goals. Celebrating these successes, no matter how small they are, allow us to stay motivated, focused, and happy while we struggle to achieve dreams of various sizes. The purpose of this thread is to share our successes from the week with one another and have something to celebrate together. So, let us know what successes you have achieved this week! Nothing is too small or insignificant! Because this is meant to be a safe place to support emotional health, there is a zero tolerance policy in effect. Be KIND. Be sure to report any conduct that is in violation of that key tenet. You can also find more support using instant chat on the /r/startups discord. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:59 AM PDT I don't want to live in the US or Europe. However, I want to launch a remote online business that will serve primarily those markets. I am ready to do limited business travel to those regions but not more than that. My goal is to build a business that I can eventually sell to the tunes of netting USD 100s of mm for my equity. Is this a pipe dream? Do I need to live in or close to the markets that I want to serve? I am not talking about a small e-commerce store ran out of China or Thailand etc. I mean a serious business with very large turnover. If this is not a pipe dream, can anyone provide any examples of successful companies doing something similar? Edit: Woah! Thank you kind people for your honest and brutal feedback! One thing to clarify. When I mention valuation above, this is more to signal that the goal has to be big enough that in the worst moments (or if I failed) I know that it is/was worth fighting/suffering for. I've read somewhere, that one can burn out by working two jobs flipping burgers, or by working brutal hours at a top law firm. Both are brutally demanding, but the latter has more purpose and more meaning than the former. This is why the size of the goal matters to me. My shortcoming, I admit, is that I use $ as a measure. Calling all CPG Food & Food Tech Founders... Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:47 AM PDT I'm happy to see that there are a lot more of you than I thought In this sub. As you know our industry is very challenging and in any venture it's beneficial to be able to bounce ideas off of other founders who have been down the same road. That being said, please consider joining the /r/startups discord. I have been trying to get some other food guys in there and I think we'd all benefit from our collective feedback. If enough of us join the mods will create a channel specifically for CPG Food & Food Tech and I think it will be a great place to expand our networks and work on our startups. Here is the link (https://discordapp.com/invite/yjMZU8g) If that doesn't work click the one on the top left of your screen. [link] [comments] |
I need help deciding on a small business loan. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 02:18 PM PDT I am looking for information on applying for a small business loan. I have checked out a few of the "recommended by goggle" type of SBLs but am pretty wary about them. What should I be looking for in a small business loan and where should I look for one? What protection/precautions do I need to make before getting one Incase my business fails? Do I need a lawyer? What kind of lawyer? I obviously have many more questions but this is a good starting point. Thanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
US Citizen to open clothing business in Europe. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 02:18 AM PDT I'm starting a business here in Europe and I'm planning to import the fabric from Italy and manufacturer/distribute online and throughout Europe and plan to expand into the US market. I already have a prototype and I'm now in the process of finding a manufacturer. The online business will be ran through shopify and the website is already complete, I just need to do photoshoots. I don't have European citizenship and no way to claim residency. I have enough money to run the company on my own and live for over a year. What are my options at this point? I have heard that if I establish the business in California(my home) then when people purchase online, they will have to pay me in dollars instead of Euros which can be a pain and lower sales. I'm about 2-3 months out at this point to where I can get factory produced garments ready to be shipped in Europe. I'm currently waiting for my schengen visa to refresh so I can enter Europe again and start manufacturing. Does anybody have any advice for the course of action to establish the company? Should I just form the LLC in the US and sell internationally even though I will be selling to Europe with product that was made and sold in Europe? Any resources would be greatly appreciated. Do you apply taxes and give long term support to failed MVPs? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:47 PM PDT So I've been building a small SaaS product which I intend to apply as an MVP for the first round of testing and customer development. But I'm a little confused about the legal side of testing an MVP.

What is your thoughts on working with "technical co-founding business"? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 02:39 AM PDT Finding the right co-founder can be hard, we know that. But what about business that are modeled to work with early stage startups for the some amount of equity, what do you thing about this form of cooperation? My friend and I are working on one idea for some time now. But we always fale to find the right tech support (third technical founder that belive in the idea). We worked with one co founder that scammed us, another one was good but we used him as an outsource developer, he didn't want to become part of the team. Now we have MVP (with bugs) but we dont have long therm solution to technical issue we face and would be facing. So i was wondering what about "technical co-founding business", there are some good one in my area... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:28 AM PDT I'm helping put on a conference with Harvard Medical School, does anyone know where I can reach health care related startups that might want to exhibit? I feel like it's a good opportunity, most of the people who attend are MD's. I've been just browsing through angel list, but figured you guys might have a better idea. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:37 AM PDT Have a company in tech/media with 30-50 employees and no front office. I'm not American so I prefer if my worldwide income is not taxed. It's imperative the country/territory have the infrastructure to facilitate the quick movement of money. Incorporation in the following countries/territories is preferred:
Where do I incorporate for the lowest tax liability? Corporate tax rate must be close to 0%. I coincidentally have staff in Bulgaria and Thailand if someone can provide guidance. Hoping to get some input before I approach an attorney. [link] [comments] |
