Dog died while under sitter‘s care - story does not add up (Los Angeles, CA, USA) Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:36 AM PDT My fiancé and I were out of town for vacation and left our two dogs with a sitter who runs her daycare out of her home (Los Angeles, CA). We dropped the dogs off on Tuesday. The sitter informed us she was going out of town on Wednesday but had an alternate sitter lined up who would be staying in her house to cover things from Wednesday until her return on Saturday. She also tells me about the vet tech who lives in the front of her duplex who she sometimes uses for "emergencies". Today (Saturday) I get a frantic voicemail from the sitter stating that my dog had a seizure and wasn't going to make it. I call the vet and they confirm that he was brought in this morning experiencing convulsions, went into cardiac arrest and they could not resuscitate him. He was a perfectly healthy 5/yo dog with no issues whatsoever when I left him. I drive home, frantic, and arrive at the vet to say goodbye to my dog, and am told by the vet tech about the "bite marks" he was treated for elsewhere and was brought in with - which I immediately explain I know nothing about. They bring out my dog's body, which has a huge bite mark with approximately two dozen stitches on his spine right at the neck/hackles level. I immediately begin calling the original sitter and alternate sitter to find out wtf is going on. Original sitter finally caves and explains that he was "attacked at the dog park" by a "pit-type dog" and she did not get the other dog owners info. Says that she didn't tell me because she "didn't want to ruin my vacation and it was no big deal". I ask the alternate sitter if the original sitter told her to lie to me and her answer was a "No....Yes... Kind of" and then she proceeds to tell me that original sitter didn't want to "ruin my trip" and so asked she and her boyfriend not to tell me, and they felt conflicted but ultimately followed her wishes. I wait for original sitter to get back to town. While outside I confront the vet tech who lives in the front of the duplex asking if he knew anything of what happened to my dog, which he denied. While waiting for original sitter to show up fiancé overhears the vet tech make a phone call saying "[original sitter] told people we've been working together and I don't normally do this kind of stuff but I could lose my job" - moments later a woman pulls up to his house, enters, carries out a pink duvet from his home, and puts it in her trunk and drives away. Original sitter gets home and when questioned about a vet receipt for the stitches, gives me a photo taken of a printed receipt that shows services were rendered for the 29th - a day after she was already out of town - and that the credit card charge was entered manually. She cannot provide a physical copy of the receipt and the medications she says they provided my dog (I have the bottles) do not match the medications on the photo of the receipt she gave me. She tries to say it must have been a "brain disease" and that the dog bite had nothing to do with it... But the vet I spoke with who treated my dog for the seizures said that A) a healthy five year old dog should have survived a seizure so likely it was a bacterial infection that caused it, potentially from the bite; B) my dog should have been held for 24 hour observation after the bite/anesthesia/stitches It seems to my like the original sitter's story is not adding up and I'm wondering if she didn't have her vet tech friend perform some sort of illegal, back yard surgery to stitch up my dog and then have someone forge the receipt. What can I legally do here to get to the bottom of this situation, and what sort of case do I have against her? I don't even care about the money because it won't bring my dog back, but I want to make sure she is never allowed to do this to someone else. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:10 AM PDT I'm 24 and coach wrestling. I'm a volunteer at a middle school. I've been at the school for 7 years. I work part time as a security guard and I'm in college. Wrestling was my life in school. Once I graduated I wrestled in college some only placing 7th in my region. I was decent and when my sister decided she wanted to wrestle I jumped on the opportunity to coach. I'm basically the head coach. The other coach was 72 and I coach everyday. Anyway I've know this girl let's call her "Lucy" for 2 years. She's an 8th grader. I've always been very professional with the kids. I don't discuss anything with them that could get me in trouble. No issues. Then Lucy came and tried out. Since this was a no cut sport she made the team. Decent wrestler but she asked me to give her a ride home because her dad couldn't make it. I did and I drove her home. I pulled up to her front gate and she kissed me then jumped out. I'm super confused as to what to do. I wanna stay at the school but I told my fiancé and she said it looks horrible. I don't wanna get labeled as some pedophile but I'm at loss for what to do. Any help would be amazing. Towing company wants to sell my car but it's in my backyard Posted: 31 Aug 2019 07:38 PM PDT This started about a month ago. My spouse left my car unintended for more then 72 hours on a random street in Los Angeles near the airport. After about a week I drove it home. A week or so passed and letter came in the mail saying they have towed my car (it's still in my garage). Today another letter comes saying they plan to sell it. On the letter it says I have to pay for the storage of the car (1300ish +everyday 40$/hr) and the towing cost but they didn't tow my car! The letter has all my correct car information and it seems legit. Can they sell my car without it being physically there? What do I do? It is pretty unreasonable to pay for the storage costs if they don't have my car in storage. I feel like there should be a citation that I can pay and the towing company shouldn't be involved at all if they don't have my car. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2019 01:37 PM PDT I am located in Canada. I went to a walk-in clinic on Friday, and had a negative experience with the receptionist. After looking online, I saw a bunch of 1-star reviews for the clinic based solely on her behaviour, and I was not at all surprised. I left a Google review, a simple paragraph about how I found her behaviour unprofessional and how I would not be returning to that clinic based on our interaction because I felt unwelcome. Later that evening, she called me (using the number I had provided the clinic) and confronted me about my negative review, which both incredibly awkward and unwanted. Is this legal? I filled that contact sheet expecting to be contacted about test results, not a rebuttal to a Google review. My Google account has my name, so she was able to look me up in the records. I feel that this is entirely inappropriate, but am not sure if it's illegal. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:03 AM PDT I work for a large national retail brand in Washington, DC. The shortest shift they can legally schedule us for is 4 hours, and when you're clocking out, if the system thinks you worked less than 4 hours (even if you're off by a second), it asks, "Did you work a full four hours today?" if you say no, it asks "Did you ask to go home for personal reasons?" Managers explained to us that it asks this because they have to pay us for the full four hours, no matter what, unless we ask to go home for illness or something. Recently when I'm working closing shifts, when my shift is maybe 6-10 but the store closes at 9 and we're mostly done with closing procedures by the time we close, managers will propose leaving early - but say that we have to mark that we asked to go home for personal reasons so that they don't have to pay us the full shift if we go home at ~9:30. We still get paid the prorated amount for time worked. Is this legal? We're not asking to go home for illness, it's the managers making a decision not to stay for the full close, and this feels like a loophole they're exploiting. The managers do ask if everyone is okay with leaving early, but you can't really say no. [link] [comments] |
Ex-wife is using police to harass me (Pennsylvania) Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:54 AM PDT My ex-wife and I have been in and out of the courts for close to 15 years. I'm not going to dive into all the specifics of those trails, but the gist was custody battles. Finally, towards the end of the fighting, the courts awarded me full custody of my 15-year-old autistic son. The courts also put into the order that the only way she could see him is if she gets evaluated by a psychologist. Also, a psychiatrist would have to be present if they were going to start seeing each other again. Years pass by and before he turned 18 she attempted to get help and go through the process. However, she stopped showing up to the session and eventually my son turned 18. A couple of months later a police officer comes to my door saying that my ex called the station stating that my son was being abused by me. They wanted to come in and check on him. I didn't make any issue, even though I knew it was a lie. I let the man do his job, he saw he was safe and left. About a week later, the cop came back to my door for the same thing. At this point, I explain to the officer that my ex has had no contact with my son and wouldn't know that he was being abused or not. The officer stated that he has to check out the situation whenever a complaint is put in. Although I was frustrated, I understood he was just doing his job. I let him in again, he checked on my son and left after realizing he was okay. It went quiet for a while and I thought I was done. About two weeks later, PA DHS (Services that protect autistic child in PA) contacted me stating that a case was open for abuse on my son. They were going to investigate and interview other people. There was nothing I could do but was slightly relieved knowing that the truth would come out. After they interview the schools and family members they realized that there was no sign of abuse. Everything my wife reported was a lie and the case was closed. Months went by and now we are back in this game again. The other day an officer showed up because she reported abuse again on my son. This time it was the same cop before and he knew there was nothing going on. He stated again that he has to investigate any report. He walked in and checked on my son, and again walked out. Today was the day that causes me to write this post. During the day when my wife was home, the officer came to the door. He stated that he got a call that my son wasn't in school from my ex. My wife told the officer that she dropped him off this morning at the school her self. Together they called the school and the school confirmed that my son was in school. So now comes the part that I am confused by. I understand that the police are just trying to do their job, in no way do I blame them for showing up to my house to see if my son is being abused. However, after about the 5th call from my wife and it still comes up with no abuse; shouldn't some kind of evidence or precautions be put into place? I find it hard to believe that my ex can call up the police, flat out lie that my son wasn't in school, and nothing happens to her. As the post states, she is using the police department to harass me. Instead of responding to these non-sense calls, I would think they could use their time better if a woman wasn't calling lying about things. Is there anything I can do to stop this or am I going to have to live with the fact that the police will be showing up every a couple of weeks? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:59 PM PDT Hello all, I am very ignorant with this whole process and I was wondering if I could get some advice. I got married on the first of last September and my wife and I were planning on moving in together when she finished school. I am from PA but I'm in S.C. because I'm in the marines. She decided to not move down and on the 4th of July she decided to divorce me. This is all happening very fast and I'm not sure what's going on. I asked her several times if she wanted support financially and she always said no, she wants to be independent. Well now I have an order to appear at a conference in PA in a few weeks because she wants support from me. This is where I'm confused... she's an RN who turned down a job offer for 30/hr. She has a brand new car and other assets that I don't have. She has a family that is currently supporting her while I was homeless before I joined and my earning potential+assets are substantially less. Would the court order me to support her while she ops out of working to attend college? That wouldn't make sense to me. Thank you for your help! [link] [comments] |
lease dealer returning my old car got into an accident [NY] Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:29 AM PDT My leased vehicle was due to be returned by June 1st so I contacted a lease dealer whom I've worked with in the past to get a new lease. A few days later he came to deliver the new vehicle and took my old one. Everything was fine until I received a all from the financial company stating they never received my old vehicle. I immediately called the dealer and he stated he got into an accident and the car was in the shop. This was almost three months ago. He claims his insurance company is refusing to pay for the damages to the body shop so they won't release the car. I tried to explain this to the financial company but they are saying since my name is on the lease I am responsible for making sure they get the car back. tl/dr -- dealer got into an accident while returning a leased car back to the dealership and his insurance wont pay the body shop for fixing the damage. Financial company is hounding me for the vehicle that had to be returned 3 months ago. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:07 AM PDT Hi, I applied for a student apartment, signed lease, and paid for the first month. The move in date is suppose to be today(Sept 1). I went to the leasing office, it's closed on Today(Sunday) and tomorrow(Labor Day). So I went to my unit to take a look. (I suppose to have 2 roommates moved in before me.) My " roommates" let me in, but they haven't heard anything about there's another girl moving in, and the room I was told suppose to move in is a horrible mass. I don't know when I can move in, I'll probably have to stay in hotel or find a short term rental for a few days. Can I sue my apartment for hotel or Airbnb cost for the days I can't move in? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Forced Marriage. Repost due to no response :( Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:51 AM PDT Using throwaway for various reasons. I am 18. Male. Living in the UK. I do not know how to start this off , but I come from an Eastern Asian background. I was not born there, born Europe but my family is from there. I turned 18 last year December and I haven't even started university yet. My parents, have started forcing me and trying to "persuade" me into marrying my first cousin. I do not want to. They come up with reasons every day in order to make me marry. They say if I don't then the whole family will fall apart, no one will talk to us and so on. This is purely because my dad doesn't talk to 2 of his sisters and his family and hasn't talked to for over 5 years now . they say that if I don't marry my dad's brother's daughter then everything will fall apart. This has been going on for a long time now (since i turned 18). I really do not know what to do. They have given me 2 days to come up with a decision. They only want to hear a yes. I've become depressed day by day and cry myself to sleep every night. I do not know who to talk to, even my friends. I don't think theyll understand :( I really do not know what to do :( :( [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 09:47 AM PDT So many roommates and I (all of us are 19) just got a house near a college campus (in Nebraska, if that matters), and we have been offered some decent cash to "rent out" our house for frat parties. If we take up this offer, will we be liable for anything that happens at the parties, and, if so, what? We don't intend to purchase/provide any alcohol for the parties, but we would not stop the frat from bringing some. Would we be liable for any underage drinking that occurs at the party? Maine- Can police tow a scooter when there were other options to move it off the road? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:04 AM PDT A co-worer got pulled over on her scooter because of improper registration. They wre just outside the driveway of our workplace when it happened. The officers called a tow truck and would not allow her father to come get it although he was only a few minutes away. They also said that our boss couldn't push the scooter into her parking lot so it wouldn't be a hazard. They said because it's not registered, no one can 'touch it'. They also refused to let her call someone else to tow it to her house instead of 30+ miles away where the tow truck yard is located. They argued 'We've already called him'. I thought police could only tow a vehicle if there is no one to move it to a secure location. In this case, it could have easily been pushed rather than driven. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:20 AM PDT This takes place in a college town in Alabama. My best friends and I intercepted what we thought was an attempted drugging and rape of a girl in college. In order to protect the privacy of the violated party, I am not posting specifics of the event that could lead to any identification. We saw a situation that we thought was scary, talked to the man and the girl, and decided that we needed to take her out of the situation. We took her, found out where a friend of hers was staying, and took her there. She was out of it, very confused, and couldn't even tell us where she lived. She contacted us and told us that she had a rape kit done and there was evidence of rape, including semen. After finding this man's social media, we saw what we think is a lot of evidence that this is a habit of his, being a serial date rapist. As witnesses to the event and people who talked to the man who did this during the situation, what can we do besides give our statement to the police? Is there someone we can contact as three college students to make sure that this man gets what he deserves? [link] [comments] |
Neighbor threatening to sue us for cutting down our own tree. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:45 PM PDT Ohio This January we had a giant oak tree cut down in our backyard. Prior to this happening we informed our neighbors as we had to have lots of trucks and a crane blocking the street and my driveway for short periods of time during the day they cut it down. No one said anything or seemed to really care. The tree was a huge hazard. All winter we had been experiencing small limbs falling and we were starting to get concerned for one falling onto our house. We did have the tree trimmed every other year. But one big limbs finally fell on our patio after an ice storm, crushing our furniture and patio awning. As soon as the weather allowed - we had the entire tree cut down. We discovered that the tree was actually very unhealthy. Most of the inside was decayed and there was a giant crack down the center of the base. Seriously a ticking time bomb. This definitely saved our house as well as our neighbors homes. Fast forward to the summertime, as our yards are coming into bloom and the heat is rising our AC bills. We did notice our electric bill was a little higher as we no longer have the usual shade of the tree. A small price to pay for our safety. Our next door neighbors have essentially a botanical garden in their backyard. They are retired and spend a lot of time working on their yard and landscaping. The tree branches had previously reached over a bit of their property, but more significantly provided a lot of shade over the house and yard. Apparently - now that their yard has gone from partial sun to full sun, a large amount of their flowers and shrubs were unable to thrive as usual. Their electric bill is also effected. Mr approached us a few times over the summer to tell us how selfish and rude we were to not consider how this would effect their yard now that there is significantly more sun. Their house is also featured on our townships garden club annual tour and they decided they could not participate this year due to the "significant losses." Another neighbor (a much more reasonable one) said that he had approached them and asked if they would be interested in "teaming up" to sue for costs of lost landscaping and electric bills due to us cutting down the tree. He said no and then told us - just in case they decide to actually sue us. I realize this sounds completely insane. I can guarantee that the entire base and roots of the tree were on our property (no question - it was smack in the center of our yard). All that touched their property was the afternoon shade the tree provided and a few feet of branches. We did inform them of this happening right at the beginning - I don't believe this is our fault that we prefer to spare our house and lives over their landscaping. In fact we probably spared their own home by cutting this tree down - if it fell in their direction it would have definitely hit their house too. Is there any possible leg for them to stand on? Posted: 31 Aug 2019 07:17 PM PDT This month I recieved 5 complaints of clients claiming that our office manager has been discussing their health issues with other clients. Many were growing uncomfortable with this behavior. I reported all these incidents to the owners, but it turns out the owner is sleeping with this office manager and has lashed out against me creating a hostile work environment. He told me that I was no good at my job and needed retraining (although all the documented client feed back reports have no complaints). He also said he wanted to discuss my salary again as I am not fit to receive the pay that I do. I was also told to respect my elders. This is in New Jersey, United States. How can I make sure that I'm protected and within my rights? Edited to add: Hostile work environment (my experience): I am constantly being ridiculed for not having the same ethnic background as a majority of the employees, I am being called a baby for being younger (although I am qualified), and crucial work related information is no longer being shared with me. Inaccurate information is also being given to clients about me to the extent of clients losing their trust in me. My clientele is also being quietly transferred to other therapists. Employee actively sabotaging my business to get unemployment pay. What to do ! Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:09 AM PDT So I'll keep this brief: I have this employee in my restaurant, let's call her pepita. Truth has come to light that this person here is deliberately sabotaging everything in my business lately... She is spreading lies that was on a personal level with my business partner and significant other; claiming I slept with coworkers, trying to set my own employees against me, etc. Pepita has said face to face to my workers, that she is doing this on purpose so that she can get fired as well as receive the 5k euro's unemployment pay. As of now I am recording EVERYTHING she does on paper or video in case I might use it later. She isn't financially very well off and should it come to a court, she wouldn't have much of a ground I assume. This person, in my eyes, is sabotaging not only my business, but also my personal relationship as well as the relationships on the workfloor. I do have many witnesses against her but have never done the effort to get it on paper as well. WHAT DO I DO ?! Edit: residing in Belgium, EU. For those that are curious. Tl/dr: Employee is deliberately trying to get fired by causing scene's and spreading lies so she can get the unemployment pay from me. [link] [comments] |
Landlord Disagreement, Furniture Blocking Living Space Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:53 PM PDT So my fiancee and I just moved into a suite in British Columbia. It was dirty and furnished when we saw it first, but the landlady swore it would be cleaned out. It's supposed to be an unfurnished suite. We moved in yesterday, and there's a giant wardrobe in the bedroom, taking up half the room. It's a single piece of furniture, not attached to anything. I asked the landlady to remove it (and offered to help) because the suite was supposed to be unfurnished (and we have no room for our own bedroom furniture). She says it's our responsibility to move it and store it, not hers, and that we'll have to reassemble it and put it back when we move out. This doesn't sound right to us. Who's in the right here? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 05:20 AM PDT I have about 5 minutes worth of yelling and screaming and beatings from my mum on my phone but there is only audio. In some of them I am wearing airpods which makes it easier to identify the two voices, but in some it's pretty unclear. She has also started whooping me in front of cameras in my building but I'm not sure if they save or just overwrite old video. I don't know why my mum has become like this. Literally one month ago she was fine, so I don't want to get her arrested or anything. But I'm seriously considering somehow emigrating back to the uk with my grandma. The country I live in now has very lax laws on child abuse so I know my videos wouldn't do sh**. I haven't really told anyone about this and I'm too scared to. I need advice on what to do right now. My dad isn't much help because he doesn't see my mum as bad and will scold me for the stupidest shit ever because of my manipulative arsehole of a mother. Car dealership subtracts rebate price twice and expects me to come back in to fix it Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:12 AM PDT (OK) Just bought a new car yesterday but was expecting it to cost $31,400 with an included rebate of -$1000 included in that price. When I got to the dealership and the pricing was discussed, the woman took off another $1000 for a rebate, even though it had technically already been applied. This made the total come out to $30,400. This morning I received a call from the sales manager explaining what had happened and if I had time to come in to adjust the price and monthly payment accordingly. I'm currently out of town and told him I'll talk it over with my parents and for him to call me on Monday. The contract was signed off by all participating parties so I see no point in taking any responsibility for their mistake. What should I say to them when they call me on Monday? Is there any legal action they can take to get that extra $1000 from me even though it's signed and done with? TLDR: Car dealership charged $1000 less by accident b/c they put another rebate on. Expects me to come in and fix it even though it's signed and done with. [link] [comments] |

Denver Colorado Traffic Accident Advice Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:27 AM PDT I was involved in a traffic accident in Denver, Colorado in July. The driver at fault ran a red light and struck me and another vehicle (remember this other vehicle as it's important later). Fault was quickly assigned to the driver who ran the light by both the police and then the insurance companies the following Monday. My vehicle was completely totaled and the other victim's vehicle lost a headlight and had some bumper damage. Things proceeded somewhat smoothly from here. It took about 2.5 weeks for the party at fault's insurance company to value my lost vehicle and make me an offer (I had it towed to a lot the night of the wreck and released it to them the next week). I was satisfied with the offer that was made and after receiving a detailed breakdown where I could see all of the #s I accepted in writing via email to the claims agent that I had been working with (this was all to their official company email). I still owed a small amount of money to the lien holder on my vehicle so I began the process of working with the contracted title/salvage company (that the part at fault's insurance hired) to have the correct paperwork filled out. Again, they provided very detailed breakdowns of the settlement amount offered by the insurance company to which I again agreed before signing a few forms and a power of attorney giving the rights to my vehicle's title away. This was all done through certified mail so very legit. We had to go through this round twice as they didn't include the suffix on my name the first time around on the paperwork that I signed. Fast-forward to this last Friday and I receive a call from the party at fault's insurance company. The agent told me she had received the green light from the title/salvage company to pay me out on my claim (the net amount of money I agreed to even after the lien was paid off was quite substantial). However, she told me that earlier that day the rental company who owned the other car who was hit had finally made a claim (we're talking 5+ weeks later) and that now there were issues on the policy limits keeping her from being able to pay me the agreed upon amount of money. This seems absurd to me since if that were to ever have been an issue they never should have made an offer in the first place. As things stand I was offered the settlement in writing, accepted the offer in writing, and signed a power of attorney giving rights to my vehicle's title to a salvage company (I have tons of documentation on all of this) only to then have the insurer go back on the offer at the 11th hour. I've already dropped 50k on a new vehicle which in large part was hinging on the agreed upon payment for my old one. The agent is telling me now to go through my own insurance for payment which of course will nail me with my deductible as well as more than likely raise my premiums in the future...not to mention this whole process has already spanned a month and a half and I'm exasperated from dealing with this and don't really want to start it all over with my own insurance. I want to know if what this insurance company is trying to do is legal seeing as how the settlement had already been offered and accepted and I'd signed the rights to the title away. Can they really go back at this point? I appreciate anyone's time who reads this. Thank you all : ) Edit to add: The insurance of the party at fault required me to return the rental car they provided within 72 hours of my having accepted the settlement amount (to which I complied). What is a hotel required to do with your personal property after eviction? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:15 AM PDT After being falsely accused of a crime, I was subsequently arrested at a hotel (It was not the hotel that accused me and all charges have been dismissed). Once I was in police custody, the hotel told the police that I was evicted (even though the room was paid for the next week and I caused no disturbance on hotel property other than the police showing up) and that I was not allowed back on hotel property. The police and hotel staff then went through everything in my hotel room and removed it. The hotel took some of it and placed it in an interior locked storage room (I only found this out much later once I obtained the police report). I was never given any kind of letter or other notification from the hotel on how to get my property back. After being released, I called the hotel several times in an attempt to get it back, but was either put on hold indefinitely or hung up on. I realize that a hotel does not have to follow the same eviction process that a landlord does when evicting a tenant. However, wouldn't the hotel still be required to give you a way to regain your person property? Would I possibly have a conversion claim against the hotel? Edit: This occurred in Ohio. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:25 AM PDT I'm currently 22, and have been living with my mom for too long of a while as I supported her while she was living with a broken hip for 9+ months, and then so on while she was recovering from hip replacement surgery. Before this I lived with her as well, as I tried to maintain a job inbetween her setting me up to fail by picking me up from work drunk, refusing to get out of bed, or vice versa. I have remained because the last time that I ran away, it ended with a suicide attempt. I'm not sure if I can leave without becoming incredibly unstable, but that's neither here nor there. She has always been abusive, and if I need to, I can direct to a stash of posts I've made about the subject in a safe place, to prove this is an ongoing thing + the severity of it, but recently at the encouragement of some 'friends' of hers, she has decided that she is going to go through with attempting to evict me, which I'm fine with. I need the encouragement to leave. I want to escape. I want to hold onto the idea that there exists a space in the world for me without fear. HOWEVER, due to my mom's emotionally abusive nature, knowing I'm allowed in and out of the house, and that I'm allowed notice before she evicts me, is the extent of my legal knowledge. I have a FEW questions, and will clarify anything needed. I live near Nashville, Tennessee.
Thank you for your time. I am sorry if this isn't formatted right. I'm not trying to make a pity post, I am just scared. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
[Ontario] Landlord filling well with pond water--is this legal, should I file a complaint? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:12 PM PDT Hi there. I can't find information about this online, and no one I have asked has heard of this happening before. Most people tell me to file a complaint immediately and move out but I don't have very much money at the moment and it's difficult to find a place to live where I am. I am renting a room in a small house in rural Ontario where almost everyone has well water. About a week ago the well for this house went dry, and instead of just waiting for it to replenish normally, or try any other alternative, my landlord decided to take a garden hose and fill it with pond water instead. He claims that using bleach will make it safe to drink long term. I understand that is what the CDC recommends for treating drinking water in emergency situations, but I'm not sure if this is safe long term, or with such a large amount of water. Not to mention we are definitely sucking up animals, like fish and snakes from the pond, that are now stuck in the well, in addition to all of the other organic matter one would find in a pond. He has been filling the well non-stop for the past week even though it should be fine by now so I'm pretty sure it defeats the purpose of his "bleach treatment." He also has a UV filter and other filters...but I'm still not sure that would make the water safe enough to drink. Am I wrong, and it's safe to drink? I have been drinking from bottled water since this started. There were also issues with him trying to fix the water pressure (while he was wasted) before this which ended up with us having a burst pipe. I understand the well going dry might be indicative of a larger issue but he wont listen to me and gets angry if I mention that, so his long term damage is not my problem. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! I am not sure what my next moves should be in addressing this, or what my rights are as a tenant in a shared household. [link] [comments] |
