First time going through an auto insurance settlement, would appreciate advice Posted: 31 Aug 2019 09:44 PM PDT I was rear ended a couple months ago. I was stopped waiting to turn and the car that hit me was going 45ish before slamming on the breaks so probably hit me at 20-30. They were at-fault, no issues there. My car was totaled and I've been paid a fair amount for that. My neck and shoulder were sore/stiff that day but I felt fine a week later. I went to the doctor's but since there wasn't really any noticeable pain at that point, they didn't have much to say, just gave me some exercises to do and come back if it got worse. Their insurance has paid for that bill too. Two months later and I feel fine so I haven't gone anywhere else. Their insurance recently sent me a check for $500 along with a Release of All Claims form to sign and return before depositing the check. My questions:
I'm not trying to stick it to the insurance company but just want to be sure I'm compensated fairly. Location: OR [link] [comments] |
$4,000 Anesthesia bill, Cigna won’t budge. Need help! Posted: 31 Aug 2019 07:47 AM PDT I recently had surgery at an in-network hospital with an in-network surgeon. Prior to my surgery, I asked the hospital if the anesthesiologists were in-network and they said yes. Did I keep records? No. I asked if they could tell me the name of the doc just to be sure, and they said they couldn't tell me until the morning of my procedure. Obviously I didn't think to check at 5am... I also wasn't given a choice. I received my anesthesia bill this week — $3,960. I looked online and saw the doctor was in-network, so what gives? Turns out, my procedure was 25 days before the doctor's in-network contract began. Cigna claims there is nothing I can do except appeal. However, they said they did not think there was a chance the decision will be overturned. The anesthesia company is independent of the hospital and I can't find a local number to call. The billing department is in Pittsburgh while we are in Savannah, and they claim to not have the ability to lower the price. I need ANY laws, advice, tips, tricks, or help. [link] [comments] |

Teen driver with permit car crash Posted: 31 Aug 2019 06:15 PM PDT I am currently 16 and I already had my permit for about 10 months now, I was driving home from work and I just got rear ended by someone else, I took a picture of his license, insurance and a lot of pictures of the crash which wasn't too bad just my rear bumper has to be replaced and exhaust. He didn't take any pictures or ask me for any of my info, I also just checked and saw that his insurance that he gave me through messages were expired (currently asking him to give me updated ones but no replies). My parents have our car insurance but not with my name. Should we still proceed with the regular claim and should we be true with everything that happened and that I don't have license? And who will be paying for the damages even though pictures have it clearly his fault? And what are my consequences of driving with only permit? I live in Texas if that helps. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2019 07:32 PM PDT Not business related, not auto related. Just for instance, let's say you get in a random fight, have a lot of assets, and someone wants to sue you. Something along those lines that protects your wages, savings, and property. Or if someone overheard you talking about them and decided to sue you for slander. Thank you in advance. Note: None of this has happened. The thought just popped in my head and I now have an itch in my brain that needs scratching. Lol. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:16 PM PDT I work for 3rd party claims, I'm a glass claims representative. I'm going to be completely honest. I hate my job... I get screamed at when people dont hear what they want, I'm tired of being the vent for people. I want to quit, but it's how I make money. I just dont want to be the person people blame. You can say that I'm weak and just need to learn that people are this way, they say things they dont mean. It's just if you say something enough times, it feels true. I dont know what to do anymore [link] [comments] |
“What-If” Insurance Question - Help! Posted: 31 Aug 2019 07:14 PM PDT Let's say my health insurance coverage at my job began as of July 17th, 2019. I have surgery August 19th, 2019 then lose my job on September 17th, 2019. If the hospital has not filed a claim with the insurance company as of 9/17, would I be on the hook for the entire cost of the bill? Would insurance cover nothing even though I had prior authorization and other aspects of the procedure such as physician fees and outpatient pharmacy have already been run through? I guess what I'm really asking is it based on date of service or when the claim was run through/billed? Can anyone help? This issue has been stressing me a lot. [link] [comments] |
If I start an at-fault claim but then decide to cover the damage myself, will my rates still go up? Posted: 31 Aug 2019 04:22 PM PDT Hi, I have progressive auto insurance (that I've only had for a few months) and since I had a collision with an object, I started a collision claim. I may end up going with having the insurance pay for it but I may change my mind depending on how things go between the body shop and the insurance (I'm choosing my own body shop and I'm not sure what happens when the insurance and body shop can't agree on an estimate and whether this same issue will exist if I go with a preferred body shop that the insurance suggested). My question is that if I now end up paying for the entire repair myself, will my rates still go up at the next renewal because Progressive knows about the collision already? Side question: https://www.progressive.com/claims/lifetime-guarantee/ Progressive has a lifetime repair guarantee if I choose their preferred repair shop. Does anyone know if this guarantee is valid even if I leave Progressive in the future? [link] [comments] |
Siding is off the front of my house for repairs and now I’m about to get hit by a damn hurricane. Posted: 31 Aug 2019 03:01 PM PDT Pretty much: doing some repairs for not-insurance-covered damage to the front of the house. Siding is off. Beams exposed. Now a hurricane is coming. If I incur damage due to the hurricane, in an area that is currently exposed due to repairs, am I covered by my homeowner's policy? Say there's damage around the area already being repaired. Is insurance gonna help me? I'm worried about this thing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2019 06:35 PM PDT Live in NW Florida. Trying to purchase a boat and Progressive cannot currently bind due to Hurricane Dorian. What circumstances need to change generally before a moratorium is lifted? The whole state was placed under state of emergency, however, Dorian has drastically shifted and doesn't look like it will even touch the state anymore. [link] [comments] |
Transitioning into Risk Management Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:03 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm a second career insurance agenct, already licensed and working, but without much experience. Can anyone give me personal experience about moving into becoming a risk manager? I have supervisors and other people I have been talking to, I'm just looking for some outside perspective. Can't get a deductible lower than $1500? Posted: 31 Aug 2019 05:49 PM PDT Hi everyone, I am new to this home buying thing. I close in about two weeks and need to pick my insurance ASAP for escrow financing. I got a good quote that I liked(I shopped at all the large companies) But the local agent says I can't get a deductible lower than $1500 because of a claim the previous owners had for $570 bucks. Their deductible was $500. Why they did the claim is beyond me. But anyway is this common? Or is he just trying to pull a fast one? If I go through the quote process online I can still select $500. I asked him about it and he said other companies will inspect the home later(post purchase) and raise it to $1500 as well. Just wanted to get some thoughts on this. Thank You [link] [comments] |
Backed into an illegally parked vehicle Posted: 31 Aug 2019 01:42 PM PDT I just backed my car into a truck that was illegally double parked. I was moving very slowly (less than 1 mph) but managed to take the paint off in 2 spots on the end cap of his bumper. It's a minor accident & I know that the end cap of the bumper can be replaced individually but I'm worried that he will try to take me for a whole bumper replacement. Does the fact that he was parked illegally give me any room to fight with him if he tries to gouge me? [link] [comments] |
Follow up surgery under different insurance than original surgery last year (pre-approval?) Posted: 31 Aug 2019 01:26 PM PDT Hi, I had fairly invasive abdominal surgery last year, was under Aetna at the time. That situation is all wrapped up and done with. Next month I have a follow up appointment with the surgeon. During the last post op checkup in March he said he'd need to see how things are going and had set expectations it may be likely to have to do a less invasive final surgery to finally patch everything up. Something about if fibrous tissue doesn't heal correctly. At any rate, I started a new job in April which means new insurance (under Cigna now). What kind of challenges am I likely to encounter? If he recommends further surgery I'm tempted to want to make sure I get pre approval first just from reading a bunch of horror stories here and else where. Since it's not that I'll be dying in the next 10 minutes and this is a follow up to something that happened under a different insurance provider is it more likely to be denied? Is there anything I can do to increase chances of success? What do I need to do as far as coordination with the surgeons receptionist, insurance and hospital to ensure I don't get any surprise "out of network so and so" somehow getting involved at the last minute and not being covered? Sorry if this seems like a bunch of ramblings, I'm not even sure the right questions to be asking here. Let me know if there's any other relevant info needed. Really hoping this all becomes moot and I don't need a final surgery, but trying to prepare for the worst. [link] [comments] |
Major Foundation Crack, Is It Covered Posted: 31 Aug 2019 05:06 PM PDT I have a huge crack in my foundation(pics included). I want to see if it would be covered under my insurance policy but I hesitate to call them and ask directly. I would like to know if there are any pointers about what to say and what to avoid in order to help my case, if I even have one. I have had one quote recently at 7k but there was an additional amount needed from a second business for a polymer filler. I stopped there before I got additional quotes cause I wanted to see if this route was worth pursuing with insurance. Especially at that dollar amount. Background: Oklahoma resident. Have had a mortgage on this home since purchased in May 2015. Insurance is with Safeco (bundled with car ins. x2). No previous claims with Ins. Noticed the crack when tiles started splitting and cracking in late 2016. It is clear that a previous homeowner(not sure which one) covered it up. Realtor said pursuing them would be hard to do and prove that it wasn't the previous, previous owner. The company that quoted me the 7k piers said the concrete was poured too thin. I will also include pics of my policy and hope it has the pertinent info. I am not totally clueless, but I am not at all knowledgeable what all of this means. I'm just trying to see if I have any other option than to shelling out so much cash that we don't have. I'm also worried about this raising our rates substantially, so if that's a huge hit I will just try and find a way to borrow the money from the bank instead. link to Big Crack, Pig tax included, kinda ;) https://imgur.com/a/ATVZW4S Edit to add thank you so much in advance for any info! Cam I insure a vehicle in the USA (Texas) and drive it in Canada (British Columbia) longterm? Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:03 PM PDT I'm and American citizen living in Canada as a permanent resident. I'd like to insure a truck in Texas, my state of birth, and drive it to British Columbia so I can have a cool license plate. Maybe I could save some money while I'm at it. I have an address I can use in Dallas if that is an issue. Can anyone who is familiar with this type of stuff give me some insight or let me know if this is even possible and what any repercussions might be? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:15 AM PDT TL DR: had some questionable repairs at a progressive approved shop, now they don't want to finish the repairs and told me to talk to progressive. I have an outstanding medical claim open for the same accident, should I leverage that to get my car fixed properly or at least get a higher pay out on he medical claim? I was hit on the driver side front door and fender by someone who has progressive insurance. They accepted liability. I took the car to a progressive approved shop since I figured if I had any issues they'd be good at fixing it. Got the car back, it looked great but had air getting through the window seal. Took it back and they fixed the window, but because they bent the door as a "fix" the door wouldn't shut properly without excessive force. Took it back again and they fixed the door closing issue, and a week or so later the window switch stopped working correctly - I have to pull really hard on the button to get the window to close, and it doesn't go all the way up without hitting the button multiple times. Now the guy at the shop says the switch wouldn't be impacted by the accident so it must have worn out over time or had a drink spilled on it. Yeah okay, fat chance. He said he'd have progressive call me but I haven't heard from them. I tried calling but didn't reach the right rep, he said he'd pass my message on to the right rep. It's obvious the switch was either damaged by the accident or the multiple follow ups at the shop. I have an outstanding medical claim open for this accident, so I'm thinking about telling that rep that I can't accept her offer because of the car issues. I'd want her to double the medical offer if they aren't going to fix my car properly. Is that an appropriate tactic? How would you recommend I proceed? Thanks for any help!!! [link] [comments] |
Are there companies that provide both benefits and financial services? Posted: 31 Aug 2019 10:08 AM PDT I'm not really familiar with the insurance industry so forgive me if this question is naive. Are there any companies that provide integrated employee benefits, financial, and legal services? Specifically in regards to the small group or individual market. I imagine something like that exists internally for a lot of large companies, but I was wondering if there are organizations out there that specialize in providing those integrated services for smaller businesses/individual proprietors. Intoxicated driver hit mine and my roommates car. Posted: 31 Aug 2019 03:00 AM PDT Woke up at 130 to my roommate knocking on my door to inform me someone hit our cars. As far as I know a male driving a mini van smashed into the back of my roommates car and totaling it for sure (it turned it into a ball of metal) from then his car smashed into the back of my truck and mashed my back bumper, broke some speakers inside, broke a part on my radiator and maybe more haven't had a Chance to look really yet. we both are pretty big with cars can fix most the damage so I'm not worried about having someone else fix it we're mainly worried about getting the most cash we can to cover it and put it into our cars. Also my buddy's car who got mashed drives a Volkswagen and the airbags never went off??? Is there anything he can do there to get money from them the airbags clearly should have gone off. Thanks. Update my truck won't start now and I did notice a bend in my tailgate maybe meaning my truck bed/ frame is bent [link] [comments] |
