Other party’s insurance has not made decision because their insured has not given a statement. What can I do?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 11:12 PM PDT

I was a driver in a car accident on 4/05/19. It was a hit and run while both vehicles were moving, they were the ones that fled. I made the appropriate reports to my insurance/dmv/police within the next couple days. I thought it was going to be the end of it because we could not find a vehicle to tie the accident to. Anyway, I ended up finding the car the next day, and in the same alley I live in no less. I called my insurance, and they contacted the other insurance company (who are "still investigating") no less than a week after the accident. The police were also called and they ended up talking to the wife of the owner. In the police report, the wife ended up saying that her husband came in the last night and got in an accident. Their car was a total loss as was mine, and why I was so sure it was them is because of the yellow paint marks on their car. It is the same make and model as the one I saw hit me, and a front grille was left at the scene which matched up to the make and model of said car. I have received a portion of the appraiser's estimate from my insurance because I have uninsured motorist coverage. I received a letter from the other party's insurance last week saying that they are still investigating and missing their insured's statement. I have a feeling they are dodging making a statement because it will incriminate them. I'm not sure what to do now or if I can do nothing but sit and wait. I live in California if that makes a difference.

TL;DR: My car got hit while I was driving but the other driver left, I didn't manage to get plates. The next morning I found their car in the same alley I live in. My insurance has paid me for uninsured motorist coverage. The other insurance company hasn't declined to pay me or paid me, they have not came to a decision because they are waiting on the other party's statement. Is there anything I can do? Can they legally wait this long?

Any answers are appreciated, and additional details can be provided if needed.

How to get recent auto repair work to be reflected in the value of an insurance claim?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 05:14 PM PDT

I have a car with relatively low book value (~$800) that I need to do a few thousand dollars of repair work to (engine work). Is there a way to get the value of this work considered by an insurance adjuster if I get in an accident so that my car is not a write of for very minor damage that could easily add up to greater than the book value, but less than the prior repair job?

    Thanks!

Declaration of Alloy Wheel Restoration to Insurance

    Posted: 30 Jun 2019 04:16 AM PDT

I'm about to start restoring the wheels on my car and I suddenly thought that it may need to be declared to my insurance company.

The alloys are peeling and so I plan on stripping them back, and repainting them back to factory-spec. Will this need to be declared?

Can insurance drop me for not getting a physical?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 12:52 PM PDT

Trying to find out if my mom is being honest with me or if she's just trying to scare me into getting a physical...

I'm 24, so I'm still a dependent on my parents' insurance, and my mom recently told me that if I don't get a physical by the time I turn 25, the insurance company will drop me. We have Anthem Blue Cross. Obviously I know they won't cover me once I turn 26, but what she's telling me is a completely different scenario. Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this? The last physical I got was when I turned 22. She's been telling me forever that I need to get a physical, which I know is important, so I'm thinking she might just be saying this to convince me to get one. I'm not looking for people telling me "it's important to get a physical". I'm well aware. I'm just wondering if anyone has any info on her claim that they will drop me by my 25th birthday if I haven't had a physical? I will call on Monday but can't get through on the weekend. Thanks for any help!!!

    Corporate Question (progressive)

    Posted: 30 Jun 2019 12:16 AM PDT

I'm an LEO in Florida. We have a local rental car company that only rents vehicles to our gangs and drug runners that constantly start numerous pursuits. They black out at night and try and flee constantly and continually report them stolen when they don't return them.

Their cars are insured with progressive..... I deeply feel if we present the never ending documentation of endangering the public and police chases with their clients vehicles they would drop their policy.

Is this something the company would be interested in knowing or even consider looking into? If so, who do we ask to speak to?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. We just had another 3 jurisdiction pursuit and it crossed my mind.

    Buy back totalled car?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 08:27 AM PDT

Looking for advice. My son's car suffered hail damage. Called insurance, took it to get an estimate. It's way more than paintless dent repair can fix. Apparently it will need new roof and hood. The repair estimate is enough that the insurance company says they will total it. Of course it's still totally driveable, and he likes the car. He just bought it last year. I believe it's a 2017 Nissan.

The insurance co says they will give him 9800 and total it. He paid 11K for it last year (no loan). He has the option to buy it back, in which case he walks away with 6K and the car. The only thing is, he will have no comp or collision coverage after that, since it's been totalled. The adjuster said it will not have a salvage title. It will only have salvage title if it actually goes to auction. I worry that if something happens (accident, theft, tree falls on it) then he's pretty much out of luck.

Can he go to another insurance company and get full coverage? Currently he's looking to see what other cars are for sale to see if there's something he'd like to buy to replace it. The adjuster is going on vacation, so he's got a couple of weeks to decide. Any thoughts? This is in Iowa

Loss of use on renters insurance

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 05:55 PM PDT

Air conditioner has broken down and it's unbearable to stay in the apartment while landlord is figuring it out. Can I make my own decision that the place is unlivable? Or do I need to ask insurance permission? Do I need an independent witness? If the decision is mine, then what's my limit on lodging per day?

Also what's going to happen behind the scenes? Is my carrier going to go after landlord for reimbursement?

Using a Rental Car due to an accident

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 01:46 PM PDT

    Hi all...

So it's been 2 months since my car accident and my car has been deemed a total loss. I'm still using the rental car provided to me by (the Car Insurance) (the other party's insurer). Rental car is about $750/month and every time I talked to Enterprise, they told me (the Car Insurance) has been extending the rental car use.

I've called (the Car Insurance) before and they told me once my claim has been settled, I would have to return the car. But since my claim hasn't been settled, it keeps being dragged out.. I have hired a lawyer during the time of my property damage and I'm not allowed to talk to (the Car Insurance) whatsoever due to the lawyer taking over.

My lawyer has been telling me that he's been trying to contact (the Car Insurance) for weeks and they haven't answered any of his calls. He has been trying to talk to the claims adjuster's supervisor and "she" also hasn't been answering him. What is the deal?! I'm basically using the rental car which is MORE money for them to let me keep using...

The total loss hasn't been settled because I wanted them to also add the $600 repair I had done PRIOR to the accident and since then the claim adjuster hasn't been answering my lawyer! I just want the property damage to be over with... but NO ONE is answering my lawyer...

I know my other option would also be to go with my insurance company but at this rate I rather just keep using the rental car if they keep paying for it. Plus, if I did go with my insurance company, will they match what the other car company offered for my car?

I'm also worried that they might pull a fast one on me and tell me that I have to pay for the rental car (even though Enterprise been telling me that (the Car Insurance) will pay for it and I don't have to worry... Could (the Car Insurance) deduct it from my total loss claim or somehow find a way for me to pay for the over-extended use of the rental car?

Please help... this is my first time and I've looked online for similar situation and found nothing on this. I just need a peace of mind. I've heard property damage claim can take up to 2 years to settle! Does that mean I can keep using the rental car for THAT long?

What happens if my traffic school processes after my insurance renewal?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 06:08 PM PDT

My parents told me that our insurance (AAA) is due for renewal. I'm not sure what exact day it is due, but I had a speeding ticket that I just did traffic school for. What could happen if the traffic school isn't processed in time with the DMV and court? Will my rate go up anyway? And is there a way to show that I have completed the traffic school without getting my rates risen or will the insurance companies be like wow boof boy u just admitted to getting a ticket idiot

What Type of Insurance Could Cover Wrongful Death?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 03:58 PM PDT

While I do not believe that there will be personal culpability related to wrongful death associated with a claim of trespassing onto private property while on government business, if for some reason things go very unexpectedly in court, what type of insurance could personally cover me in a wrongful death lawsuit (attorney fees, etc.) and settlement?

The Attorney General believes that this case is frivolous and will be thrown out as laws concerning this kind of government business allow for the type of entry that occurred. I would like to have insurance if anything did happen in the future in which the AG is not supportive of its staff.

    Thank you.

Changing Insurance Carrier & Notices to Lenders

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 03:02 PM PDT

I recently changed insurance carriers with a new agent and I got a warning from my mortgage servicer that my insurance expired and they are going to force place insurance for my home without proof of insurance. I responded to the request to fill out a website portal with this information, got an email confirmation it was received, but then they just sent me a second notice in the mail. Shouldn't the lender be able to see the update without my involvement? Never had any issues when the policy renewed with the old carrier so not sure why this is suddenly a problem. Do insurance agents normally help with something like this?

Does it make sense to get insurance outside of my employment’s options?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 08:19 AM PDT

Currently the option I have at my employer is $200.06 monthly - $750 calendar year deductible coinsurance 20% Out of pocket maximum $3,000 Preventative Health Care; Pay nothing Office visit $25 Diagnostic lab / pathology: pay nothing Diagnostic XRay: covered 100% and 20% if outside doctors office Inpatient services: 20% after deductible Urgent Care: $35 copay Emergency Room: 20% after deductible

Do I have better options elsewhere? I've never explored insurance outside of employment, not even sure where to start.

Desperately need help figuring out insurance

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 10:30 AM PDT

I don't really know what to do here. I need to get insurance on my car FAST before my mom's policy runs out. We can't afford to pay it anymore. She suggested getting on my dad's insurance policy (my parents are divorced) but I can't because I don't share his address. The only other option is getting insurance by myself but I know that's a lot more expensive. None of my family is helping me with this and I don't know what to do or what I need. Pleeease help me. I'm 20F if that matters, I've been driving for about two and a half years, no accidents or tickets or anything.
