    Startups Should I be skeptical?

    Startups Should I be skeptical?

    Should I be skeptical?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 02:10 PM PDT

    Hello!

First time poster here, ran into something that I figured would best be posed to you folks over here, being that the research I did came up with next to nothing. A friend and I are in the process of getting the wheels rolling on a small startup business we've been working on for some time. Today my friend received a message on Linkedin from someone who co founded a company by the name of "Silicon Valley in Your Pocket." The gist of the message was "looking to learn how to raise seed investment from angles/vcs this year? We're looking for startups in your area to join our program starting in April." Their website looks legitimate, however, I'm a bit skeptical? The website mentions "membership" and how they connect you to a "network of 300+ angels/VCs once you are ready." I have little to no knowledge regarding these things, and so far our little startup has been completely self funded. Is this something we should consider? Am I being skeptical for no reason? I feel like there has to be a catch, and I'm assuming this "program" and "membership" come with a fee. Let me know your thoughts, and thanks in advance!

How to get more high-quality leads without spending any $ on marketing or sales?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 07:56 PM PDT

My friend and I are running a startup called "Exchange," a marketplace in which professional software engineers and data scientists train customers to excel in their technical interviews.

We believe our potential customers are Computer Science students seeking jobs, Coding Bootcamp grads, and Career Switchers.

In order to gain customers, these are the strategies we use - ranked by how successful these strategies have been:

    1. Get involved in online communities (like Discord servers) where people interested in tech careers tend to gather, and market Exchange to these people
    2. Cold-message people on Facebook and LinkedIn
    3. Cold call students, bootcamp grads, and other tech job seekers who posted their resumes on LInkedIn (least effective)

We try to funnel them into our website, which has a signup form requesting their contact info. There's been 0$ spent on getting leads, and we intend to keep it this way until we get funded or make 1000s in revenue per month.

We've gotten high quality leads with these tactics (meaning we close 80% or more of people who express interest throughout website's signup form) .

BUT we want to get more of these high-quality leads. Right now we get 1-3 leads per week, which is slow. Ideally we're aiming for 10+ high quality leads a week. Our immediate goal is getting 3-5 leads per week, then 5-7, etc. and I'm wondering what other marketing avenues and sales strategies we can try to achieve this.

I'm thinking about starting a podcast for creators called Creators Edge. Is this a good idea?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 02:09 AM PDT

    Hi everyone:

In the last few months since starting my first podcast, I learned a great deal about podcasting, interviewing, networking, and marketing.

The journey has been incredible and I have been fortunate enough to interview some pretty cool people.

Today, I'm looking to start a new project, something that I've been passionate about for a really long time but up until now didn't have the platform or knowledge to make something like this.

The idea is simple. To create a podcast to learn and help creators reach a wider audience through better marketing.

I'll pick an important topic each week and will cover it in detail with special guests.

I'd like to get a wide range of individuals on the podcast from graphics designers to email marketing experts and successful authors and content creators. Anyone with a valuable message and lesson would be invited.

The purpose of this podcast is to learn and help others evolve as creators whether you're an author, podcaster, youtuber, or influencer.

    Name: Creators Edge Podcast

What are your thoughts on the cover design, name and idea.

    Starting a B2B2C Payment App/Platform

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:32 AM PDT

    Hello,

I've decided to create a B2B2C app which will include an option to pay. Basically adding an e-wallet to my app. I've started to look around for details on how to do so, but I couldn't find a good source on it.

I will need to allow my users to pay for goods, probably starting with food, drinks and etc and later on clothing and other physical items.

Do I need to become a payment facilitator? Can I use a payment gateway for the beginning? Is there a way to create something like this, at least for the MVP stage, without the need to comply with banking regulations?

Any resource/personal experience or general knowledge will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Something I have been thinking about for a while now.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 08:05 PM PDT

Andrew Yang has a book called, "Smart People Should Build Things" and this got me thinking.

If you know you are of above average intelligence, what would it take to go from 'zero to hero'?

There are classes at the local college that anyone can take, but none of them are exactly what I think would be needed to, basically, become an inventor or Tony StarkTM

    1. Mechatronics Mechatronics is a branch of engineering that takes a step back to look at all the engineering disciplines and takes all the best stuff from each. Build the circuit board, program it, build the machine, apply the board to the machine and watch it go!

    2. Machining Machining is the art of taking raw material and precisely grind away the unwanted bits until you are left with a very accurate representation of the exact idea that was in your head.

    3. Computer Aided Drafting Without CAD all your Machining skill will be wasted making a ring for your buddies wedding. Create anything and machine it to space traveling perfection.

    4. Welding Obvious reasons.

    5. ???

What other classes should be in the program of Inventor?

Would love to hear some ideas. I rather love talking about ideas.

Being a part of a Digital Marketing Startup

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 05:58 PM PDT

I am a freelancer and I work in this Digital Marketing startup and I am a valuable worker in the company. I found this company in a freelancing website where the company had posted for a social media manager.

I am wondering if it is possible to propose for the share of the company to own some share of the company, grow the company and share the revenue afterwards. The owner of the company and I are like 5000 miles apart. Also, if the owner agrees on that, how can I trust this person. I mean what kinds of resources should we have shared to have that trust.

My main concern is how do people maintain an online business having resided very far from each other. What are the exact things that are needed to be shared to have trust with each other and so that we can run this company together as partners?

And most importantly, what are the steps that I should take to make this work if this possible?
