I've heard horror stories about GoDaddy and other similar sites. Where do I go to search/buy domain names that won't con me out of it later?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 07:03 AM PST

I'm also trying to decide on a company/brand name for custom woodworking designs/products. Anyone have helpful suggestions on where I can go to brainstorm?

    Thanks!

Looking for the cheapest "business sized" cards

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:42 PM PST

Hi team, I'm looking to get a product made.

Essentially it's a card. 3 x 2.5 inches. Black and white printed on one side. Other side blank.

Customers are buying these in lots of 50+

A business card seller would fit this, but I feel that I'd be paying a premium for "business cards" when they're really not business cards.

It's made to be disposed of, so high quality card stock isn't paramount.

Any leads here? Want to keep it under $10/50 cards including shipping. I'm considering China but I feel like it's simple enough I can find somewhere stateside.

    Cheers.

How do I start my own clothing business?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 12:24 PM PST

Hi! I'm a high school teen, living in Canada (if that makes any difference) and my friend and I were thinking of starting our own business! Although of course, having no experience whatsoever nor mentors, we don't know where or how to begin. We started thinking maybe just selling little stuff like keychains, phone cases and socks (big emphasis on the socks) with our little logo to make ourselves known and build up a little more money for future ideas.

    Those ideas consist of :

    1. Making apparel with cool (imo) designs on them. (Tees, Long sleeves, Sweaters, skirts, dresses)
    2. Making genuine leather belts and those trendy Off-white like belts.
    3. Making backpacks and purses.
    4. Making pants (jeans excluded).
    5. Making accessories.

For these to happen we need to know

    1. An easy design software and the tools we'll need to perfect our designs (tablets or so).
    2. Where to buy the plain clothing or ask to make it (let's say I want an asymetrical skirt, I can't find that on Gilden.)
    3. How to build our website and what order managing add-on (?) we need to place orders.
    4. On what website can we print the designs for cheap and well (embroidery and like paint? not the plastic stuff). I saw some but I didn't have freedom on where to place the design I wanted.
    5. Where to design hair tie, bobby pins (not just the colour but really the shape and dimensions) and hair clips.
    6. How much money do we need to get started and how much do we need to charge more (%) to have a good profit and keep it rolling.

Also, is there anything we should be wary of? Such as financial planning, shipping details, ads, management? Should we hire people to help?

Could it be possible with our demands to do it ethically? Like maybe in Canada, Europe, the States, etc.

(I know very well this might sound lazy to ask so much but I tried to do my research but I don't know why I felt so.. lost? Like nothing was going well. )

I did a few hundred sketches in my sketch book and I'm looking into ads too.

If you have anything additional to say it is welcome and I would really like it if you had any tips and tricks or anything to correct or such. Please be as harsh as possible. Thanks a lot for reading. Sorry for my english as well, I'm from the French-Canadian part of Canada therefore my english isn't as good. Have a great day!

I have exactly $200. What can I do online, using my money to make money? Any points in the right direction?

I have $200, and I've been wanting to save it and make more money with it. I'm not asking you to give me everything, I'm just asking for an idea, or point toward the right direction. I have a few ideas, but they're not too good. I'm down to buy anything even if it's reselling it. Any ideas? From Flipping websites, to anything!

SaaS product entering a market with only one direct competitor in North America, should we show our pricing (the competitor doesn't)

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 10:48 AM PST

We are a B2B SaaS with only one competitor. We know our competitor's current pricing, and it is feasible for us to have lower pricing given our business model has other revenue sources. I know this is limited information, but is it enough to lean towards showing vs not showing prices? Our pricing is based on the company size (# of employees).

Also note, our indirect competitors show price (they are generally complimentary offerings, not a direct competition)

I had an idea. So I did it.

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 01:28 PM PST

I am a software developer but really never had any experience managing and promoting my own projects/business. I programmed a news website which gathers all the most popular sports news websites and shows them on my site.

You can find my project here: https://www.sixif.com/

I would like to know your opinion both on technical side and business side? I have tried to make it as easy as possible so that the browsing experience would be the best.

What do you think about the size of the audience and the potential of growing in general?

    Affiliate Marketing With Instagram Influencers

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 11:09 AM PST

I've been thinking about starting a dropshipping store on Shopify and have been researching it hard for the past couple weeks.I'm really young so I can't get a job and I live in the UK so I can't now lawns or whatever so I don't really have much money at the moment which is why I was thinking maybe I could just make a decent amount of sales through Affiliate Marketing(not all my sales, just some to make a decent anount in sales to start off).So I'd contact an Influencer on Instagram, ask them to post a picture of my product(obviously a decent one I'd send them),I'll give them a discount code for like 15% off,and for each sale I make with someone using that code Id give the influencer like 50% profit. This sounded like a very good idea but I saw somewhere someone saying that it's just not worth it and very time consuming but they never really elaborated on it so I'm still not really sure.So does anyone think it's a good idea to contact like 100 influencers each day with like a 5k-10k following in the same niche and ask them to be an affiliate?

I have a physical prototype of a product I want to make in a large scale and sell WW, what are the crucial steps before going to investors to raise funding?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 12:35 AM PST

    Hey Entrepreneurs!

I have a project (In collaboration with my dad, the engineer) of a new urban vehicle in the last mile solution market which brings several sexy solutions to several problems of this market. We have 3 working prototypes, each with some new additions we made after learning from the previous model, and with this new one we're ready to move on to more professional R&D phase, which will include finalizing the product to the market's specific needs and specifications, but in order to do so we have to raise funding.
My question is - before going blabbering about to investors without preparing properly and making a plan, I would like to ask you fellow redditors what steps are crucial for me to take before going to raise fundings, what information is critical to have, and how should I present my idea.

It's important to mention I have no experience what so ever in growing a business, so it's very important to me to avoid the biggest mistakes that I won't be able to recover from. This project is important to me and I want that if it comes to a failure, it won't be because I've made some stupid rookie's mistake.

Merry Christmas and a Happy new year!

A huge opportunity - waste recycling.

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 10:59 AM PST

Apologies for the clickbait title. But, I'm wondering why isn't there anything groundbreaking done for waste recycling. A lot of waste can be converted to compost, a lot of plastic could be recycled, waste could be used to generate electricity, etc. My point being, if waste and garbage is technically free if we leave out the supply chain costs, why doesn't everybody out there make use of this free raw material? I believe this could be technically a multi billion dollar business if done right and would also solve the global garbage problem. What do y'all think are the pros and cons? Why hasn't anybody done this on a large scale yet?

What are some great sources of knowledge on digital marketing?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 10:01 AM PST

I am currently interested in getting a broad understatement of digital marketing strategies, step by step, shown by examples.
It does not matter if it's e-mail list marketing, content marketing, SEM, SMM, SEO or any other form of digital marketing.
I am just interested in seeing different marketing strategies being applied in practice.

Any ideas on where I can find it would be appreciated!

Flyer suggestions for my one man band operation?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 09:55 AM PST

I've been clearing out spaces for people, finding items of value and selling them for a commission for a little while now.

I've been flyering neighborhoods and get a few calls a week, a handful of clients a month, and am just looking to make sure what I offer is clearly, and succinctly described. I think there's too many words on the flyer. Am I right?

I'm a writer by trade so I can be wordy. Any suggestions are welcome for the business or the flyer. Thank you!

Hey guys! I'm new to this subreddit, and fairly new to business in general. I'm in the very early stages of building a small import business. I feel very excited and also very overwhelmed at the same time. I was hoping to maybe get some advice from some experienced small business owners.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 06:52 PM PST

    Background Info:

So, I'm (28y/o male) running a one man operation where I plan to purchase generic, private label products from China and then prepare them for a US market by improving on the quality, design etc. and then resell them wholesale to local retailers. I've made my first order of 1000 units from a Chinese supplier, I've inspected it and everything looks great. I've made changes to the design of the products casing, improved the software, and repackaged it in a better quality box. The product itself is a good product in a good sized niche market, without a lot of competition (almost zero competing brands). Currently I only sell on amazon but I would eventually like to be able to sell it directly to small local retailers (mom and pop shops).

I have a background in economics so I'm not starting from zero but generally speaking I don't know much about how a business should be run and there's so much I feel I should know (ex. marketing, sales, finance, management) that I don't really know where to start or where I should focus the majority of my time and effort at this point.

    Some general questions:

    1. What would you say are some important things that you wish you knew when you were starting out?
    2. What are some important concepts/ideas in business that are vital to know early on?
    3. Suggestions on good reading material that you found useful.

    Specific questions:

    1. How do I approach a retailer to make a sale? What should I bring with me (besides the product / line of products)?
    2. How much should I discount the wholesale price from the price that I sell it for?
    3. If I make a sale what kind of paperwork would I need to provide?
    4. What kind of payment structure should I use? (ie. Do they pay upfront for all of it? half now half later? Or payment after they've sold?)

All advice/comments are welcome, even if unrelated !

    Thanks so much!

Do you guys 'just do it' or work it out with BMC, VPC, validation?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 09:01 AM PST

Just wondering if there are people who go through the painful process of drafting out the BMC, VPC, SWOT, SOM and validation? This is what my school teach me but it can take months to go through the whole journey before determining if your idea can be a profitable business.

People that know of the luxury industry, is attracting investors against the idea of a luxury brand?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 07:17 AM PST

My brand needs a great deal of money to launch and has been in a state of limbo for quite a while now unfortunately.

I've read and so far ensured to apply most of the content in the book 'The Luxury Strategy', I can't though seem to recall the authors stance on how or whether to attract investors for your brand.

Especially being a luxury fashion brand, selling the 'dream' to potential investors would be quite challenging as it's not a clear cut technology or worthwhile invention but only my own subjective tastes and art style etc.

For context, my brand is I would call ultra luxury. The Richard Mille of my particular niche. Prices that leave you intimidated, reserved for the ultra rich. It is also similar to the brand Richard Mille in a lot of ways.

What are your thoughts? Thank you.

What is the best business plan for a SaaS startup, going after medium to big companies or going after small startups?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 07:15 AM PST

    Hi all,

I am working on a Feature Management Platform called Configz.io.

We are on a crossroad right now and thinking between going in a direction that will appeal for medium to large sized companies or making it more accessible for small startups.

I think that if we go for medium to large companies we might have to give an on-prem solution for our product.

On the other hand if we go after startups we will have to make the product more approachable.

What do you think is the best approach?

Would you fire a developer who sent a "testing" push notification to 18K customers?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 08:31 PM PST

I'm currently on the fence about firing my current developer who so far has been fairly decent but yesterday while testing sent a push notification to 18K customers with a random text string.

When I confronted the dev. they barely even acknowledged the mistake, or the gravity of the mistake. If I were in their position, I'd be very apologetic.

So what would you do? Give them the axe?

    Where do I start?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 01:33 AM PST

    Hi All,

I hope everyone is doing great. I have multiple ideas of businesses and I do have the finances (100k) I am 31 and I want to start a business. My problem is I have no idea where to start. I have made most of my money through employment but I just don't see myself working forever. I am a mechanical engineer and I have a decent job but I have always been a hustler. I find cheap stuff online and resell them for profits. I can literally sell anything! Everyone around me knows I am always selling shit and my mom always tells me I am natural with doing business but I never really took it seriously. Ppl always let shit go for a low value I buy them and resell them for higher price just for fun really. I see $$ everywhere and I know I have the drive to make money. I just don't know what to do to get started with a business of my own. I already have a plethora of ideas I just don't know where to start. Is there a book out there someone can suggest or a beginner guide step by step on how to get started?

    Thank you for reading

    Improvements to 'Product Hunt'

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 05:18 AM PST

Based on your time discovering and recommending things from the site. What do you think could be improved?

I haven't spent much time of the site and was reminded of it after coming across this comment (Hat Tip: /u/ChocolateGlamazon27)...and if learned anything about products ...is there there is always room for improvement.

Do you have a pro/con list for the site waiting for a post like this? :)
