    Lean transformation failures

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 02:24 PM PST

I would like to study companies who attempted to adopt Lean (but not Six Sigma) methodology and gave up. I see where the government has done scholarly research into lean healthcare, but I have not found any research into why a company might fail and give up before fully implementing Lean.

Does anyone have stories they are interested in sharing about their experiences and observations? I have some assumptions about why but I would like to develop a battery of questions that would help in my research.

TL:DR I want to study Lean transformation failure for my DBA and am looking for stories.

Private Labeling Electronics, mistakes and recommendations?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 06:04 PM PST

Lately, I start to explore an business idea that is based on Electronics. Basically I want to buy OEM devices and Private Label them, then install my own software on it.

At this point I'm starting to contact some manufacturer to know about customizations, minimum orders, shipping prices, etc...

How to know if the manufacturer if trusty?

Which certifications are needed (CE, Rohs, etc...) ?

How to avoid high shipping fees (since the product is kinda fragile)?

Best shipping companies for low and high orders ?

    Profit margin strategies?

There is any recommendations or any mistake that should be avoided?

Why would a co. hire for FT when they know they're going to shut down?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 11:04 AM PST

We are the only union center under this company that has dozens of centers around the country. They closed all the other union centers in one fell swoop a few years ago. Why they didn't close ours, I do not know. Upper management doesn't seem too fond of us and rent is skyrocketing in this city. There is talk of our center being shut down and my coworker and I just found the space up on a leasing site for relet for June 1st. But they just hired me on full-time this week. Why would they hire me now if they plan to shut down in just a few months? We have asked directly if they plan to shut us down but haven't been told anything directly.

What are some good business reality tv-shows?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2018 07:53 AM PST

    I love watching:

    - The Profit

    - Billion Dollar Buyer

    - Hotel Impossible

    - The Deed

    - Kitchen Nightmares

...and slightly different, but also interesting (but typically too much surface-scratching, so less enjoyable - for me at least):

    - Shark Tank

    - Dragon's Den

I guess the theme is a combination of real business/ideas, interesting personalities and that you can actually learn something about the businesses - and business in general. Yes, some of these are not always great, a bit on the emotional side etc, but there is still something to learn from them...

What are some other shows, current or past, that are also worth looking into?
