I predict Amazon will acquire Lyft in the next 18 months.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 05:57 PM PDT

Lyft is five times cheaper to acquire than Uber. It has 35% of ridesharing marketshare in America and is rapidly growing in Canada—two of Amazon's biggest market.

Currently, no major Western ridesharing platform is profitable. That's because it takes a ton of costly promotions and subsidies on both the rider and driver sides to grow a ridesharing platform.

Amazon, however, could substantially reduce the high cost of new rider acquisition by just offering their over 100 million Prime members a discount for using Lyft over Uber. This would shift marketshare overnight.

Then, on the driver side, Lyft drivers could be doing last mile order fulfillment for Prime Now and Amazon Restaurant when ride demand is low—effectively increasing driver wages through removing time spent waiting for a new passenger while also lowering Amazon's fulfillment costs.

The operational efficiencies that come from owning both commerce and ridesharing would allow Amazon to become the most valuable company in the world.

Uber and Amazon are already competing on a ton of fronts. AmazonFresh and UberEats, Uber freight and amazon prime delivery. My money is on Bezos to win though, they can shoulder the massive costs with AWS

    Bull Trap?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 08:07 AM PDT

Anyone feeling like this is a bull trap. Let's go over. Yesterday very green. The lull of security. FB earnings comes out and by all accounts they miss on major metrics, slightly but still. Stock shoots up. This morning opens with a huge pop. Just feels like a sell off is in the mix post lunch.

    Aerospace &, Defense Etfs

Is it worth getting into defense and aero Etfs, they are down like everything else this month, so it is a good time to buy in? Or is it better to get individual stocks like Boeing? Or stay away from the sector all together?

Samsung slashes capex, calls end to chip boom "Oversupply is expected to continue"

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 06:17 AM PDT

"NAND (flash memory) chip prices will further decline through the first half of next year ... (as) Toshiba's new production line will start and Hynix starts mass production of one of its NAND lines,"

Sucks for MU holders; semiconductor stocks have been drying off, so don't expect a rebound for several years.

MU takes about 2 years to form a bottom and then another year just to reach the previous ATH. This is consistent with other semiconductor stocks like AMAT

Time to get back on the Facebook (FB) Express? Stock trading up nicely after earnings

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 05:34 AM PDT

Options markets implied a bigger move...last time we checked, was +5-6% in pre-market with options implying a 9% move going into earnings at the close yesterday. Profitability trends look like they are back on track...MAU growth is decelerating but the monetization (and incremental profitability of that monetization) of the MAUs appears to be holding strong.

Just as a point of reference, Revenues grew 33% Y/Y...this isn't an early stage company! ARPU increased by almost 20% (on a worldwide basis). ARPU for US MAUs grew little more than 30% Y/Y.

Just some food for thought when you hear comments from Facebook bears.

FB - Q4FY18 Possible values based on guidance

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 01:53 PM PDT

I tried to create Q4FY18 facebook values based on yesterday results and guidance

    I assumed 9% revenue growth reduction. Now, they have 33%, minus 9% = 24%

I assumed 37.1% Profit margin in line with current profit margin.

I come up with 15908.6 Revenue and $5901.81M profit. Is this fairly correct?

I tried to find some annual reports on the company but did not find any. Their numbers look impressive on their website. I'm just wondering if they will have enough sales with SD-WAN solutions, especially after Bell started their own SD-WAN technology. Is this worth buying?

26 y/o looking to build onto my portfolio

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 10:08 AM PDT

I have around 35k that I would like to invest

My father bought me around 300 shares of Nike back in 1994. I also have around 90 shares in Microsoft. That is the extent of my current portfolio. I also have a Roth IRA that I invest a small amount of money into monthly.

I guess I'm here to get some opinions on how much should I diversify my portfolio given the money I have to invest. I'm really looking to invest long term into blue chip stocks. I don't know if I should be investing 5k-10k (or more) in each company I decide to invest with or diversify even further investing smaller amounts into various companies.

I don't really understand the importance of diversifying ones portfolio, if any. I guess I'm trying to figure out if there is a better strategy for someone my age with such an investment opportunity.

    Question about options

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 10:01 AM PDT

What happens to unexpired options when the underlying security ceases to exist. I am just now starting to trade options and while looking at the drop down of how far into the future an option I purchase can expire(2021), I wondered what if the company doesn't even exist? Maybe it goes belly up and the stock is dissolved, perhaps its bought out.

    Disney streaming

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 09:29 PM PDT

DIS has been trading flat for the past few years, and with the streaming service coming in 2019, there could be a run-up leading to it with the interest/speculators, especially given netflix's valuation. Thoughts?

    Baidu vs Tencent

Which would be a better purchase at the moment? If someone purchased Tencent, there would be more stocks, but Baidu seems to be a bigger player in technology.

    Opinions on DowDuPont? (DWDP)

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 04:11 AM PDT

It looks like gamble in short time but good pick if you wait ~3 years.

Anyone going to add some DWDP now or later?

Don’t buy wage growth as bullish

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 07:50 AM PDT

Wage growth up 3.1% is bearish. It will cut into margins and is coming at a time when growth is already starting to slow in rate of change terms.

Not to mention it is an artificially high number as last year we saw negative wage growth month over month due to a hurricane so it was an easy comp.

Market is heading lower boys and girls. Rotate into low beta, long bonds and gold here.

    Stock comparisons

    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 07:40 AM PDT

How do I factor in dividends when comparing the growth of two stocks?

For example, stock A has gone up 15% and pays a 3% dividend and stock B has gone up 10% and pays a 5% dividend. Does this mean that stock A would have given an 18% return and stock B would have given a 15% return? Also, is there a difference in calculating one year returns vs. multiple years?

What’s your biggest bagholding stock? How long have you held? Was it worth it?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 09:29 PM PDT

Down 60% YoY. Up over past 3 years but this years gains almost wiped out!

Made me wonder, longs who bought at the top, did you hold for years to break even?

    Thanks
