Should I run quickly? (Medical sales interview) Posted: 05 Oct 2018 08:05 AM PDT So a distributorship for a Medical Device company posted on LinkedIn about a position opening up and to reach out. So I did, and was emailed by someone on their "product training" team. Sent me an invitation to take a PI Cognitive/Behavioral assessment, followed by an electronic interview with HireVue. They now have invited me to a coffee shop for an "interview" to present on a product I have no familiarity with on Monday. So that's that. However, I have never actually spoken to anyone, or has anyone requested a resume from me (assuming they looked at LinkedIn, but still). This has sketchy written all over it, and debating on canceling this ASAP. I know nothing about the job and no one has inquired about me personally. What are your thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Oct 2018 10:43 AM PDT So I'm a highschool student just starting in Consumer Electronics and Mobility Sales, doing fairly well and staying about middle of the pack for daily sales (It's only my first week). I'm wondering if anyone can offer me some advice on how to continue in the field after highschool (and what sales field brings in the most money), as well as how I can increase the amount of deals I close. Another question I have is, how on earth do you sell someone on extended warranty, nobody wants it. TIA! [link] [comments] |
Getting to grips with my products with such a bad memory? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 10:40 AM PDT My memory is almost at a meme-level amongst my friends because they genuinely always make jokes about it. Anyway, when you have a memory this bad how do you build on product knowledge? I work at Curry's selling PC's which I've learned over the last 4 or 5 years by building my own and troubleshooting my stupid mistakes. Then we have Macs and iPads which I have hardly any clue about even though I keep reading up on them. This is one thing that when it comes to weekends, I can't afford to forget about them. However, my main problem is the services we offer. Most of our money in the PC department which I'm in through software. Anti-virus, MS Office, our Knowhow bar which offers a few different services such as cloud storage and PC setup are what's on sale. However, I always forget the 10001 bundles we provide with the various services; especially when we have two different offers at two different prices for the exact same bundle. This is the thing I feel like is impacting my sales is forgetting these prices. My coworker, let's call him Eddie, leads the targets charts in nearly every computing category is better at knowing these ridiculous amounts of bundles, but the others still know the vast majority of them. Eddie will hear you want the cloud storage and the antivirus with the laptop and instantly can tell you that for the same price you can get more on top still whereas the others don't know. Eddie overheard me telling a customer about the bundle and saying it would be an extra £40 I think it was to get cloud storage on top when he politely let us know that you can get it for the same total as the bundle without cloud storage. I'm starting to lead the department in my customer service side of things so I feel like if I nail down this product knowledge I'll start to be one of the most successful in the department which I do want to climb up the ladder even if it is only a parttime job. Does anyone have experience in "Internet Sales" at an auto dealership? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 11:36 AM PDT Currently looking at a position in "internet sales" at a German luxury auto dealership. I have a friend who works at the dealer, but not in sales. The way they've explained it is that it doesn't seem like a BDR type position, but actually closing business over the phone. Has anybody seen anything like this? [link] [comments] |
Need help on Value approach to selling Posted: 05 Oct 2018 11:24 AM PDT Hello everyone I would like to be pointed to the right direction if possible. Currently I'm preparing a sales presentation for an interview coming up and on their job posting it's says that they would like someone who has a value approach to selling. Currently I'm in telecom and I have been used to solution based selling dealing a lot with PIERS. I imagine that value based selling and solution based selling must overlap in some way but I'm having trouble understanding exactly as to how the value approach is used in a sales presentation could any one clarify and or give some helpful tips? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 04:08 PM PDT I just started my sales job 4 days ago... I'm just really worried about sales. I don't have any sales experience but was hired due to my customer service and my Intrest In going to college for business (thinking spring time to start.) I haven't made one sale. The other new person had made 1 today. Funny thing is that I'm really hard working and the other guy isn't. They go after him more than me with making phone calls, emails etc. I'm really worried about making my quota for the month (40 sales). I just feel the pressure now. The last 3 days I was going good with email invoice and responding to decline emails, learning the ropes with CRM and all that but sales gets me worried. I'm worried I'm not gonna be able to make any sales. I just need advice, why am I not getting any sales? I feel my email is simple, short and to the point and so is my calling script but I just keep getting decline emails, no thanks from calls or even "call back later/voicemails" Anyone got advice? Sales Dilemmas / Managing Expectations Posted: 05 Oct 2018 09:14 AM PDT I work for a small startup company (~7 mil/year) that sells hardware and software that automates actions that engineer or tech would perform on a pump, motor or variable frequency drive to optimize the operations of that piece of equipment. I have been with the company for about 1.5 years now and it is my first sales role, previously I have held engineering and customer success roles in similar fields. One of the topics I have struggled with is that the product is still in its early stages and although it does add-value today in order to make sales we have to sell heavily on vision. While I have gotten better at this, I often worry about the consequences of overselling something to a customer and having them react negatively after the sale because of misaligned expectations. I am guessing that this is a fairly common problem in tech sales especially at a startup company. I have a couple questions about this:

Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:35 PM PDT Background: Just finished 3rd day at a new role as a Jr Pre-Sales Engineer at a thriving BI company. I'm having baaad anxiety at work, and I'm scared I won't make it or be able to shake it off. I'm kind of a peculiar guy, my self-esteem and confidence fluctuates frequently. I can hit a phase where I'll be the most charismatic, charming person ready to take the world, and other phases like the one I'm in now, I feel unauthentic, scared, nervous. I'm new to sales, in a drastically new 'start-up' kind of environment, and I feel like an imposter. I feel like I successfully tricked these guys into hiring me. Has anyone experienced what I've been feeling? I know I have the capability to succeed, but I just need to shake off this persistent anxiety I get at work. Any AE's or sales rep that may have dealt with a co-worker who seemed on the 'quiet' side, how does that affect your relationship and what tips would you give? I need help. [link] [comments] |

1st sales job, sales trainer at work wants me to pitch sooner rather than later Posted: 04 Oct 2018 02:50 PM PDT Hey all, I've been told I'd be good at sales so I'm giving it a shot. Its the 4th day into calls, I've been doing cold calls since I'm one of the new guys. They are slowly trickling warm leads slowly. All of this is fine, I need to build my character. I've been reading the r/sales for advice and I see a general consensus is to make a connection, be liked, and don't be pushy with the product. Fine their values and see how the product can help them. I mentioned that I want the build rapport/relationship more and one trainer told me to pitch sooner. I can't help but disagree and I don't think he'll win me over because I don't like him. What should I do? I'm planning on building the relationship route, but I fear more criticism [link] [comments] |
Selling Management Consulting vs SaaS? Posted: 04 Oct 2018 03:02 PM PDT Can anyone give any insight into selling consulting services? I currently work in SaaS/IT sales, and an interesting opportunity has sprung up to sell management consulting to IT. What is it like? Is it a harder sale because its more conceptual? Is it more/less lucrative in the long run? Would it be difficult to transition back to SaaS? Any insight would be valued. [link] [comments] |
[Advice] How to go from BDR to CSM/AM? Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:49 PM PDT I need some advice on how to best make the jump from BDR to either Customer Success Manager or Account Manager. I feel that because of the title I've become pidgin holed into the BDR role by recruiters. I have several friends who've been successful in going straight into CSM/AM roles with similar experience and background to myself, so obviously there must be something in my representation that needs to get tweaked. Currently I've been able to get through to the final round twice, but have either been told that timelines for the role has changed or that they want someone with more immediate experience... [Some Context] I've been working as a BDR for a technology company for a bit over a year. I've consistently hit targets and received internal awards for best performing BDR in region. I've been doing both inbound/outbound, run intial meetings and presentations (never closed, except in the instance of smaller upgrades). Prior to this I worked at another Enterprise Technology company under the title of "Technology Consultant". My responsibilities included doing onboarding for both internal employees as well as clients joining the platform, selling B2B solutions ($,10,000-$30,000). Recently I've come to realise that I want to be in a role that deals more directly with cultivating and maintaining customer relationships. Provide training, support, VOC and make sure that they stay with the product or service. Any advice from people who have been successful in making the leap from BDR to CSM/AM? [link] [comments] |
Best way for my sales team to video call with leads? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 12:15 AM PDT I run a small maintenance company and we have a team of 5 sales reps. We spend a lot of time driving around to see properties/venues, give estimates, etc. It's a waste of gas, time and money. A lot of which can be saved through video calls. We've tried FaceTime, etc, but some people don't have iPhones, etc. The only enterprise-like solutions I've seen are Jumper and Confrere. Both are great, Jumper especially because it's mobile-based, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet on anything. Are there any other options, or has anybody come across a similar solution to the same problem? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:25 PM PDT New to inside sales here. SaaSish sales mostly. I'm having a problem keeping people's appointments for demos. I'll call and I'll either get screened or they will say they're busy.

Doing business with a Chinese business (Canadian) Posted: 04 Oct 2018 06:53 PM PDT My company has a meeting with a Chinese consulting businesses, is there anything different I should be doing when we meet? I hear of companies bringing nice pens or small symbols of good will to open a trusting relationship. Is this still a thing or should I avoid this kind of gesture these days? [link] [comments] |
Im having a hard time selling a FREE service Posted: 04 Oct 2018 02:36 PM PDT So I started a small business recently, as I saw an opportunity to provide b2b services for free. It's really no-cost, as all my services are paid for through a state grant program with no money out of pocket or risk to my customers. I thought this would be a great way to start a new business for myself and build some qualifications and relationships to expand my services in the future. The problem is, I am having a hard time finding customers. I have been successful in this industry for a decade, and while I haven't had a formal sales position, my previous roles included aspects of business development, selling and influencing decision makers. I do have a website and unique domain associated with my email. My current method for getting the word out is to reach directly to prospects via email. I am identifying these leads through a number of commercially available databases and am confident they are my target audience. Additionally, I am pretty confident my messaging in my intoduction email is on point. I continue to refine my email, especially finding ways to customize them while being efficient with my time. I have found my first customer and have a few leads which may take longer to close, but am pretty surprised at how hard it is to find customers to take advantage of my no-cost services. I know my sample size is small, but I probably sent about 400 emails with a 1% response rate and only closed 0.25% so far. There are a few things potentially working against me. My services are focused on helping businesses reduce opex. Unfortunately these services arent focused on their core business (i.e., usually not a high priority) and are also a small price of their opex. Additionally, I am thinking free may raise some red flags and be too good to be true. I'm new at this and would love to hear any insight, advice and see if anyone has experience selling free services. Thanks for reading! [link] [comments] |
New Position at the company, what do I do. Posted: 04 Oct 2018 05:13 PM PDT We just created a new position for the Account Management team at a SaaS company. The job is to take care of the 1000 smallest accounts that aren't big enough for the Senior AM's to spend time on. This position isn't about relationship building (it's 1000 accounts), more about retention and minimizing churn through mass market emails and reminders to renew. I'm trying to put together a plan for the position. It's brand new so my boss is letting me have a lot of control over what it looks like and what the day-to-day is. Any creative ideas for how I could tackle this would be great. I'm not quite "over my head," but I definitely want to put a good foot forward. [link] [comments] |
