Question about equipment sent from health insurance.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:15 AM PDT

So I'm supposed to go to the hospital and pick up a machine and sign for renting it and what not. But apparently the hospital shipped it to me. Where can I go with this. Can I just use the equipment and not sign for a rental or what. I mean I have good insurance and don't want to Fk with them. But.....

Original plan was for me to rent it in sept wait 3 month period and buy with insurance taking 90% of the price. But no appointments till oct ruined that and I'll have to pay another deductible in January....

DMV flagged my license for “lapse” in insurance coverage because I moved and changed my insurance before changing the registration. Please help me understand if this is actually a lapse.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:11 AM PDT

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but if anyone is able to offer insight or advice it would be greatly appreciated!

I moved from Louisiana to New Mexico in August 2016. I transferred my car insurance right away from LA to NM, but didn't get around to registering the car in NM until a month or two later (I realize now that this was stupid, I just honestly didn't know it was something that had to be done immediately.) No issues, everything was cool. I assumed I had done the right thing by making sure my insurance was valid.

I recently moved back to Louisiana and when I went to the DMV to get a new license I was told there was a flag on it. Since I changed my insurance to NM prior to changing the plates/registration over, they're calling it a lapse of coverage and wanting to fine me (though they seem to be unclear on what the amount of the fine is. I was told $575 initially, then suddenly it became $250). I can't get my license here until this is handled.

I never changed insurance companies, I had State Farm and transferred it from LA to NM when I moved. There was never actually a lapse in coverage. I contacted my State Farm agent in NM and they are emailing me evidence of coverage. I'm not sure if LA will recognize this as valid however, because I moved from a LA State Farm agent to one in NM. It just never occurred to me that this would be a problem.

I'm planning to go over to the DMV to get this sorted out as soon as I get the proof of coverage from the NM State Farm office, I was just wondering if anyone knows whether they'll accept this as valid coverage and let me off the hook for the fines. If not, is there any way I can try to minimize the damage?

    Hit a parked car... I know :/

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 12:05 AM PDT

So just recently I "caused" an accident where I reveresed back out of my own parking lot and ended up hitting the car that was parked behind me (it was parked horizantally and i came out vertically). The persons car that i hit has his own designated parking spot which is next to mine, which he was using already, and on top of that, had his other car parked in front of the managers garage, which we are told multiple times to not park in front of the garages because they block the way of us getting out. What I want to know is how much of this is my fault?

    Hoa vs Insursnce dispute

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:44 PM PDT

My inlaws recently purchased a condo with HOA managed landscaping in Washington state. After one week of being moved in they started getting water damage to their kitchen floors walls and cabinetry.

They worked with their insurance (State Farm) to try to identify the leak using servpro, a plumber and a leak detection service. All found no evidence of a leak.

It turns out that there was a defective sprinkler head outside of the kitchen that was replaced but they have no photographs showing that the water got into the house because of this sprinkler.

The HOA denies responsibility, the insurance is denying coverage because the source of the damage was exterior to their responsibility because of the HOA managed exterior. The insurance company is being very evasive even to the point of not providing a phone number to return calls to.

    Any suggestions?

Why insurance claim takers always ask if there was a child's car seat in the car?

[update] I got into a car accident and the person most likely gave me a fake insurance paper. Does anyone know how to find an insurance company based on the policy number?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 10:54 AM PDT

I posted here a week ago regarding an accident I had with a semi truck. My friend believe he gave me a fake insurance paper.

[update] My friend was able to find the owner company's number (note: this is not the driver that hit me) and I kept trying to call him to get his insurance. He answered and spoke very little English and told me that how come I didn't file a claim with his insurance and I said his insurance is invalid. He asked me about the accident and told me that none of his employees reported an accident and that he'll call me back.

A week later and no phone call, I decided to call back and this woman answered the phone saying "no English, just Spanish" and I asked her if I could speak to the owner and she said she doesn't understand what I'm asking. I asked her if she could hand the phone over to someone who spoke English so I can talk to them and she said "no" and hung up. I was pissed off so I decided to go down to California Highway Patrol and filed a report even though it's been two weeks since the accident.

The woman was very understanding and told me that I needed to call next time an accident like this happen. She told me his Mexico drivers license is invalid in the US and left a voicemail on the owner company's phone. I also left a voicemail stating that I will file a civil suit against them if I'm not able to contact them.

My friend got ahold of his old insurance company, but even the person who gave us the new policy number doesn't know which company it is. I don't know where to go from here. He was only able to find the policy number, but he doesn't know what their insurance company or what their phone number is.

So does anyone know how to find an insurance company based on the policy number?

tl;dr: I filed a claim with chp and my friend found the company's insurance, but he was only able to find the policy number. How can we find the insurance company based on the policy number?

Edit: the new policy number is 1148878. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it!

Car not fixed - how to handle this?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 05:59 PM PDT

Hi everyone, thanks so much for any input you have. Let me know if I'm posting this in the wrong sub.

    California.

A month ago my Honda Fit was parked in front of my house and someone crashed into it. Tons of damage. They also hit two other cars in the process. Their insurance initially denied liability, saying that it may be the fault of one of the other cars.

I filed a claim with my insurance (state farm), and for the last month my car has been at one of my insurance company's preferred auto shops. The auto shop kept delaying me picking up the car, saying that a wheel needed to be re-done, etc etc etc.

They finally sent my car home today, and on the drive home I noticed some big issues - like The wheel that they kept having problems with makes clanking noises on left turns. And other stuff.

I called state farm, and they just said to send it back to the auto shop. If the auto shop says that they can't fix it, then state farm will send an adjuster out to look at it.

My car was brand new. I just bought it 4 months ago, so the problems with it are definitely from the crash.

Can anyone give me any insight into how this is going to play out? The auto shop has been trying to fix this car for a month, I highly doubt they will be able to fix these issues now.

Also - the insurance company for the person who hit my car has since accepted liability.

Never had car insurance in my adult life, need help with starting out

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 08:35 AM PDT

So, aside from being on my parents insurance as a minor, I've never had car insurance. After high school I moved to the city and did not have a car for 10 years. From there I moved to NH for the next 7-8 years, which does not legally require insurance, and so, being the absolute cheapskate moron I am, have never even considered it.

I recently moved to a state that does require insurance, and decided to start looking into it last night (again, I am a moron and should have done this beforehand). The reality of how bad it looks to insurance companies to not have had insurance is washing over me in waves of deep, cold panic. I hesitated to even drive to work today... (my car is still registered currently in NH, but I'm not sure if that matters or not)

I've poked around on websites, mostly the ones that run Ads on T.V., and I've seem some outrageous quotes ($200+ a month) and I've seen some not-so-outrageous quotes (89$ is the best I've seen.)

I am a 35 yo male, single (live with S.O. for 10 years, but she has her own insurance/car). I have very good credit, and a completely clean driving record, no tickets, no accidents. I am employed full time, own my car outright (boring 2004 sedan).

What I know so far, is that I should just shop around and go with the best deal I can find. I am looking for the bare minimum state requirements (at least for now).

Is there anything I can do to better my situation besides shopping around and choosing the least financially devastating quote? I do OK, I make ends meet, but do not have very much wiggle room financially. A 200$ a month insurance premium would not be doable for me without resorting to a lifestyle of saltine crackers and tap water, and perhaps picking up aluminum cans on the side of the highway for spare change.

TL;DR: I'm a huge moron that has never had car insurance because my state did not legally require it. Now I live in a state that does, and I'm realizing I've made a huge mistake in not having it.

    Please help!

Homeowners Insurance doubled in price after company changed underwriters.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 04:01 PM PDT

I've been with Progressive and Ameriprise for 5 years. I received notification this spring that they were ending their partnership. I notified my bank and they told me I wouldn't have to worry about anything as they would be in contact with Progressive found another group to manage my insurance.

Received notification this week that that communication never took place and I was both close to have my bank force insurance coverage on my and that ASI (apparently the new underwriters) via Progressive would be cancelling my Insurance if they didn't receive payment by 10/12/18.

This obviously concerned me so I contacted ASI/progressive and after some conversation they concluded the cheapest coverage they could offer me was more than twice the amount I had been paying.

    My questions:

Did I miss something during this transition that was required of me that could have prevented this situation?

I plan on looking around for another company, what are my best options that provide good quality for good value, we don't have a ton of room in our budget.

I was getting a combo discount with progressive with my auto insurance, should I switch my auto insurance as well if I change homeowners?

    Appreciate the help!

Car Accident. Help me not inadvertently screw someone over??

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:41 AM PDT

Hi, I am in a dilemma. I know I share some of the fault in an accident, does it matter if the other person shares some of the fault for my insurance rates? Or would it just be a way for my insurance to get out of paying for the other party's damages (and won't affect me personally)? Everything I told my insurance is truthful, but I have a feeling they are going to screw over this lady. My insurance rep told me that if they find she is even 1% at fault they will not cover her damages. Should I warn her??

How are the AINS and AU Designations viewed by Employers?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 01:33 PM PDT

I am currently working on acquiring both the AINS and AU designations, target completion date for both is next summer. My question is: how would somebody with those two designations be viewed by employers and other people in the industry? What would those designations indicate to employers, what kind of advantages would the give me over the competition, etc.?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Should I add my spouse to my car insurance?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:53 AM PDT

We have two cars and two insurance policies. We live at the same address, but my spouse does not drive my car once a month or more (per my policy, if they do, you need to add them). He drives it occasionally, maybe 5-10 times a year.

I have a completely clean driving record, and his is a bit spotty. I'm guessing that adding him to my policy will increase my premiums, and I'm guessing there's no way to find out by how much until I add him first.

Should I do it? Is there a benefit? As I mentioned, he has his own insurance, but if he were driving my car and got into an accident, could we face issues?

Any CA renters insurance allowing multiple "additional insured"?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 12:08 PM PDT

I want to have myself listed as named insured and my boyfriend listed as additional insured on our renters insurance policy. However, our lease requires our landlord be named as additional insured -- NOT interested party / additional interest -- and I've yet to find a policy that will allow all three of us. Does anyone know of a provider that will allow this? (We are in California)

Nationwide Insurance Paid Off Wrong Car

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:33 AM PDT

Title pretty much explains it. I got a call from a collections company saying I owe 5000 still on my car that got totaled. After doing some research & calling my Nationwide I found out that they paid off the wrong vehicle by cross checking the VIN they sent the payment on with my old car. The claims representative said he can see the error & he had escalated it to his manager. Because the car is in collections it's messed up my credit pretty bad. Is there any other actions I can take? Any advice would be appreciated.

Filing a Claim - No longer insured by Company

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:27 AM PDT

Long story short, 3+ years ago my car parked on the street was destroyed by fire. It was parked adjacent to a large tree that was heavily damaged. Car insurance claim was filed and I received full replacement value for the car.

Fast forward to today I am no longer insured by the same company. Arborist is telling us now that the tree needs to be removed and that the auto claim should cover the cost.

    A. Would the auto claim also cover this separate property damage?

    B. Is it possible to file a retroactive claim against a company that no longer insures you, but was insuring you at the time of the incident?

Girlfriend and I moved to Philadelphia from NYC - she was covered as a domestic partner on my health insurance - does that change?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 10:38 AM PDT

Girlfriend is covered under my health insurance as a domestic partner when we lived in NYC. We just moved to Philly and I'm wondering if that will prevent me from having her on my insurance when I do open enrollment for 2019.

The company is multi-national (offices in NYC and Philadelphia), but my division's office is out of CT if that matters.

    Thanks!

Question about health insurance open enrollment

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:57 AM PDT

My company open enrollment is November 1, and my wife's is January 1. I currently have my family enrolled through my company, but I want to switch to my wife's offering, because of upcoming changes to my policy. Can I early enroll in her policy if I opt out of my policy November 1st? Does that count as a qualifying event?

    Depreciation on Deck

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:21 AM PDT

    Hello,

our duplex got hit by a hail storm and the adjuster (in addition to other things) added deck paint on both sides to our claim. The deck paint totaled RCV of 2200 and we got ACV of around 900. We ended up replacing both decks with patios. Is it possible to recover the depreciation of the paint damage for replacing the decks with a patio instead of repainting?

We have Auto Owners and have it in our policy to recover the depreciation in any claim.

    Multiple Car Discount

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:16 AM PDT

Someone I know owned two cars and received a discount on their insurance for insuring multiple cars. If they sold one of their cars, is it legal to suspend the car insurance on the sold vehicle to retain the discount?

An insurance agent is recommending that my friend do this, but it seems like fraud to me.

How do I find out what is and isn't covered by my health insurance plan? The website only allows me to see a (potentially inaccurate) summary, and won't give me access to the document that describes my actual plan.

    Car Insurance help please

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 08:51 AM PDT

    Hi All,
I live in UK (not mainland but general rules still apply here) I'm confused and hope someone can explain in simple terms.
I'm 30(m) got license 3 years ago (I lived in USA, driven since 16, moved back home to a small island that you don't really need to drive on). Now i pay about £38 a month full cover. What i don't understand is, i'm over 25 so insurance is cheaper anyway BUT my partners sister who is 22 with a license less that 2 years old with a brand new 2017 car can have insurance that is only £27mo. WTF is this.....?
Now i got lucky and only paid £650 for my fiat punto 2004 33k on the clock. Is it the value of the car that is hurting me? Do i say i paid more for it?
Everyone who is younger than me has cheaper insurance and not all of these people have there no claims yet?
    Am i missing something.

    Media uploading platform(s)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:16 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I am wondering if there are currently any platforms that insurance companies use to receive video from claimants, apart from YouTube and drop box.

That being said, does Russia have something like a video uploading platform? Considering the amount of dash cam videos are on YouTube, I doubt so.

    Thanks.
