Do insurance companies have to read police reports? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:54 PM PDT I was recently in an accident where I was making a left turn on a yellow light turning red. The driver of the other vehicle ran the red light and hit me full force as I was making the turn. There was an unnamed witness at the scene who saw the witness run the light and recorded it on the police report. The insurance company doesn't believe that they ran a red light. (I understand this in normal circumstances, it seems like an easy way to get out of something that should be your fault.) The insurance company has stated that I am 100% at fault unless they see the police report. In York Region (Ontario), an accident summary costs ~$340, and only says that the other party is being charged. For a full witness statement and everything, it takes 30 days. I can't afford to wait that long. What should I do? Can I force the insurance company to take care of finding the police report? Can I get a written guarantee of an outcome before I get the police report myself? Is a traffic violation for the other party enough to clear my name 100%? Thanks for the help guys. My sister is going to run out of meds in 6 days and she has no insurance to help!? what do i do? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:55 PM PDT my sister has depression and she was on hip since we make hardly the money needed to buy food and buy all the bills anyway hip just canceled her insurance and she has been trying to get it back but it may take a good amount of time but she only has 6 days worth of her meds and without them she is going to get really sad really quick and best case is she hospitalized worst case she kills herself. I don't know what to do i'm trying to help but i can't find anything that could help and since her pills cost like 1000 bucks there is no way we can just pay for them out right. I'm worried but i don't know what to do to help. Anyway we live in Indiana if that helps. [link] [comments] |
Experience with Central Mutual Insurance? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:58 PM PDT Hi, I've been shopping brokers for a new Home, Car and Umb policy, as I'm ready to move on from Allstate. The broker has quoted two policies, one from Safeco which seems reasonable, the other from Central Mutual Insurance. I am not familiar with them, and there is not a great deal of online info. Has anyone had dealing with them? Claims, interaction with Adjusters, etc? The prices are excellent. I am in Nevada. [link] [comments] |
What's going on in the food delivery insurance world? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:33 AM PDT I own a pizza place that does delivery. I've always felt exposed by my non-owned auto policy because of some of the random insurances my drivers have had over the years. But now it's getting harder for the drivers to even get coverage let alone decent coverage. My crew have typically been able to find a policy with Geico or Progressive, but it's seeming as if Geico (at least here in Utah) is pulling the plug on food delivery. I had assumed that with all the new food delivery outfits (UberEats, Grub Hub, Etc.) that there might actually be more and better options out there, but talking with my agent locally it seems that the exact opposite is true. What are you all recommending to food delivery drivers and/or establishments that offer food delivery? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:38 PM PDT Hi Everyone I hope I'm allowed to post this here. It's a bit of a long story.... So anyway - back in late March of this year my partner received a letter addressed to him stating he'd been involved in a collision on 'such and such date'. Problem is - he was recovering at home from a hernia operation on this date. I phoned to get further details and advise them of this and that I was the only person driving the car around this date. So now they have MY details. That's fine, we're co-owners, co-registered, co-insured. They then tell me I caused an accident on this date at such and such time and the details were REALLY weird. Like.... I'd friggen KNOW if i'd hit this woman in this way (apparently from behind while we were stopped at the lights then the lights went green and I left without swapping details.... um if that happened why didn't she get out of car???) and NO WAY would I drive off. I know me - I'd bawl and get out. Especially with kids in the car!!! Well.... according to her account, I did and she lodged a police report then a claim via her insurance. My problem is this; I DID NOT CAUSE this goddamn accident. I would have NO problem making a claim and paying my excess if I caused and accident. Secondly it's $2000 worth of damage - I'd damn well know if I'd caused $2000 of damage in an accident. Thirdly my kids were in the car - if I so much as tapped someones car they'd freak the fuck out and tell every damn person I know. I truly feel this person has caused her own damage at whenever point then got my rego and gone to the cops/ her insurer and lodged a false claim. Anyway - so I spoke to the insurer back in March this year and told ALL of the above, they've now phoned me today (3rd October) asking for payment.... I've heard NADA from them in this time. No communication, no phone calls. Nothing. Please help me what my options are. I'm now with a different insurer so I assume if I WAS to make a claim I'd need to contact OLD insurer? Also, I've told this person at the insurance company I have no problems doing the above IF I caused the accident but I DIDN"T. And to come back at me with proof. I'm waitiing on them to contact me with proof - which is what they were supposed to be doing back in March and I heard nada. I'm FREAKING out. [link] [comments] |
Insurance company had appraiser come out, but isn’t accepting liability? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:21 PM PDT I was involved in accident on the highway where the vehicle in center lane side swiped me as I was traveling in far left lane. After two weeks and me giving my statement and all info to their insurance they sent out an appraiser today who looked at my car and told me where I should take it. That was at 9:30AM, and at 4:30PM I got an email stating they were not accepting liability because of word vs. word. Why would they send out an appraiser if they weren't accepting fault? Auto Insurance adjuster is lying! and I can prove it. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:15 PM PDT A few months back I was involved in a fender bending. I was driving in heavy traffic and was rear ended. The woman who hit me lied about the accident. She is insisting that I merged into her. An adjuster from her insurance company (Geico) called me to get my side of the story. We did a recorded interview. I was crystal clear with him during the interview. I explained exactly what happened. A few weeks later I get a judgment stating that they will not be covering my damages. the adjuster stated "by his own admission, he was merging lanes to get off an exit and he collided into the vehicle"......I never said ANYTHING to the adjuster about merging or taking an exit! Durring the interview I had made it abundantly clear that I was never merging. I have a copy of the recording as proof that I never said these things. The Adjuster is blatantly lying about what I told him. Which is baffling to me given that the conversation is on record. How should I proceed? TLDR: An auto insurance adjuster has denied my claim and is lying about things I said. Despite their being a recording of the conversation he is lying about. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Minor Vehicle Damage (OWI) - Michigan Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:29 PM PDT Hello, About 2 months ago I curbed my car trying to turn around after a house party. The rim bent a bit (well, beyond repair) and tire was slashed. Outside of that, minor damage to the bumper (scratches, dents). No damage to anything besides my car. I absolutely had been drinking and did blow over the legal limit. Incredibly dumb decision that I am deeply ashamed of. I couldn't get the car out and when the police were called I received a ticket for an OWI. My license was revoked. Everything on that end is handled from a legal perspective. While figuring this all out, I purchased a cheap rim/tire so I could stay on the road. I drive 25mi one way most days, so driving on the spare wasn't going to work. I realized that I never followed through on submitting an insurance claim for the damages. It doesn't make it right or OK that it's been this long, but my immediate focus was being able to drive (so, a quick tire replacement) and the legal aspect. I'd like to file a claim now that things have calmed down, but obviously it's been several months and it seems like a lot of the literature indicates you need to report that day. I guess I'm wondering if I should still file a claim. Will that claim likely be denied? If that claim isn't denied, am I still able to get a rental car with a temporary license? By all accounts, my insurance is likely to be cancelled after the conviction (in a few weeks), at least in its current form. If it matters, I have progressive insurance. Anyway, appreciate any and all help figuring out the insurance end of this really shitty, self-inflicted situation. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:48 AM PDT I was in an accident last year where someone rear ended me, they admitted they weren't paying attention. I had my blinkers on and everything. A few months ago I wanted to change my insurance company because they were too high, so I found another one and they gave me a quote. I asked why it was high and they said because of that accident I'm considered an "at risk" driver despite it not being my fault. So my question is, why is that? Is it because I live in Michigan and it's a no fault state? [link] [comments] |
Would I be able to not use my health insurance? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:57 PM PDT So I'm trying to see a therapist but I'm running into some issues with navigating through insurance. For some background information, I am 19 and covered by my parent's insurance (Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield). I'm a full time college student, but I work on the weekends, saving basically everything. So I have money to pay out of pocket, but I also don't want to drain my savings. There are two reasons I would rather not use insurance (if that's an option). First, I don't want my parents to know I am seeking therapy or why I am seeking therapy. Second, the deductible is very high. Would I be able to not use insurance, even though I'm covered? If so, would I be eligible for sliding scale prices? [link] [comments] |
Will The Auto Insurance Increase? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:33 PM PDT A few months ago, I was driving my dad's car for GrubHub and I got into a car accident with another driver; I exchanged information with the other driver immediately after that. A few days later, my dad's auto insurance company called me and told me that they were not going pay out the claim and that they were going to close the claim due to me driving for a Rideshare app company, which was not included in the policy. A few weeks after I received that information, the other driver's insurance company mailed me a letter and determined me to be at fault. About a month or so after I received the letter, an insurance company called Sedgwick, which was notified by the other driver's insurance company about the accident, agreed to pay out the claim/ accident. Sedgwick is an insurance company that represents GrubHub. I want to know if my dad's auto-insurance will be affected/ will his policy rate increase because of the accident that I was determined to be at-fault by from the other driver's auto insurance company or is this completely on me and will only affect me? Also, I am not included in my dad's auto insurance policy. I live in California. [link] [comments] |
Do parking violations / citations affect insurance rates? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:24 PM PDT My little brother living in California forgot to move his car for the street sweepers, and has two car violations total this month (they've been paid). Would this affect his insurance rates, and does it go on his record? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 11:38 AM PDT I went and saw a chiropractor for some neck pain after a minor car accident. This was a little office with the Doctor and his nurse. During my intake, both of them urgently expressed to me that I don't want this on my health insurance and to not file it with my BCBS plan and just to pay them a cash price. I thought that they knew best so I just went along with it. Here we are, 5 months later and I finally get a bill from them for $170.00. After talking with my Dad about it, he made me realize that no, it should absolutely be filed on my insurance. I called the office to have them submit the claim and they are saying it is going to get denied because it has been more than 60 days. I feel like they kinda screwed me over here... if it went through my insurance, I would only owe them $17.00. Do I have any recourse? [link] [comments] |
Can I re-do or add things to my statement after it has been given? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:20 PM PDT The other day I was in an accident. I was turning left on a yellow, and as the light turned red, another vehicle entered the intersection and hit me. They were charged on site by an unnamed witness. The problem is, stupidly in my statement to the insurance agency, I neglected to say that I entered the intersection on a green light (which is the truth by the way, I did enter on a green light). Now they are trying to stick me with disobeying traffic signals, which makes me 100% at fault. What can I do? They have gone back and reviewed the recordings of me giving my statement to the clerk. How can I add that one little piece of detail that should clear my name? PS: The clerk did screw up writing down my statement multiple times. Can I just say that I was confused by her and neglected to include one piece of information? Also, the witness should know that I entered the light on green safely, as well as my girlfriend, who was in the car at the time. Even though my girlfriend is a biased witness, could her testimony help my case that I entered on green? [link] [comments] |
A dispute I am confused about with USAA with auto insurance Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:31 PM PDT To keep this simple, I am leaving out the confusion of deductibles. In June my vehicle was violated by hail. I elected not to make repairs, except for the windshield. I pocketed the $5,856 and made my own arrangements to repair the windshield. In August, hail struck again, causing more damage, but also destroying the windshield again. So I got the damage appraised again, and it was explained that I would receive the difference of damages, $898. Which makes perfect sense, except here is where it gets fucky. I didn't have the invoice for the initial windshield repair and was told I could submit it later to receive coverage for the windshield again. Well I submitted that invoice today, but was told they covered the cost of my windshield anyways, which is kind of true, it is listed in the damages for the second claim. However they subtracted the entire pay out of my first claim(prev hail damage), from my second claim. 6754-5856=898 The windshield is included in the first claim of 5856. Should I not be entitled to the ~240 I can prove I spent replacing my windshield? Meaning they should have only subtracted 5616 from my second claim... Or am I just a fucking retard. Thank you to anyone that read this wall of text that I tried my best to explain. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:18 PM PDT Hello, I live in Rochester NY and have the choice between two insurance options. I am in the NYARNG and get Tricare Reserve Select for a family for about $275. I can get MVP for about $300 a month for the standard family plan. If I stay with Tricare my employer (town government) gives me $3000 a year to not be on their plan. My wife and I found out we are pregnant so my question is which option is better in Rochester for availability of doctor, cost for delivery and appointments for pregnancy/baby and quality of insurance? If this is not the correct place, where can I reach out to, to compare plans. Tricare told me they are better and MVP told me they are better. Is there a neutral third party to ask? Thanks! Whose insurance should I call first? Mine or the at-fault driver's? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:02 PM PDT On Monday evening when I was driving home from work, I was waiting at the red lights and my car was hit a guy from behind. We immediately pulled over; I noticed that my rear bumper had a little bit of clear coat paint gone and a few scratches. The at-fault driver pleaded not to go thru his insurance and said he will settle me out of his own pocket. Since it was very minor, I agreed to it and we just exchanged our contact info and left. The next morning which was Tuesday i woke up early before starting to work to check my car. I bent down and looked underneath the car and noticed that there were some clamps broken and now I fear there might be more hidden damages. I immediately called up the at-fault driver and told that I see more damages and I want to proceed this thru insurance. He agreed to it and also asked me for my insurance & driver license info in exchange. He said he will contact his insurance to admit his fault and give them my details. I also gave him my information and got his back. Now here I am seeking some advise on how to make my next move. My car is brand new (just a few months old) and I have full coverage including collision. I know that I should inform my insurance about this incident. But if I decide to file a claim with just my insurance, I might have to pay my deductible. At the same time I am also a little concerned about dealing with the adjuster from the other guy's insurance, like what kind of information should I reveal to him. Since when we look at it visually, it is just a little paint damage and broken clamps. I am also not sure if the at-fault driver really admitted the fault to his insurance or if he told a different story to them. What if they consider it to be very minor and deny my claims? My insurance is with Geico and his is with AAA(Inter-insurance exchange of the automobile club). I consider my car still brand new about 8 months, still under ToyotaCare warranty and would like to resolve this issue without voiding my manufacturer's warrant. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:15 PM PDT Hi, I live in Ontario Canada. I recently bought a vehicle but before doing so had been emailing back and forth with an agent, who gave me a quote, we agreed on the price, I got a temporary slip and went and bought my vehicle and had it registered at service Ontario. Just today the agent emails me back (keep in mind she had made my quote with all accurate info, had my license number, my vin, etc etc) and says that its going to be about 100 more a month than what I had been quoted at. Is there any protection for me? No variables changed, is there anything I can do? I bought this vehicle on the pretense I would be able to afford insurance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:51 PM PDT Prior to my collision, my car was operating great and I had no issues with it. It looked fine. I bought it used (2015 Toyota Carola, 30k miles). The carfax report showed it clean, and the dealer said it had not been in an accident. As an average joe with no knowledge of cars, I had no reason to question any of this. Fast forward to Friday, I am in a collision. To save time, I take the car to body shop of my insurance. Body shop calls me this morning and says there was prior damage and that my insurance is sending over an assessor in the morning. I describe the situation more fully here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Autobody/comments/9kuuz3/advice_needed_my_car_is_in_insurance_companys/ My questions are:
Any advice is welcome. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 12:39 PM PDT edit: mobile formatting Colorado, USA Hail storm in the area damaged my vehicles pretty seriously, USAA is my insurance with full coverage. I filed a claim, and they sent me to a location to get the damage assessed. They took about 15min, and sent me on my way with an estimate of $2500. Now that the hail season is over, I've taken the vehicle to a repair shop, and they quote me around $8500. I called USAA and told them their initial estimate seems to be very low, and asked them if they can re-inspect the vehicle, they absolutely refuse. I took the estimate from the repair shop, and sent the information as a supplemental information (25 days ago now) to USAA and have called to check on if there was anything else needed to be done, each and every week. Each week they tell me they cannot find the supplemental information, and after giving excruciating details about when/who I sent the email too, they finally are able to find it. They then tell me that it is in review (and sometimes they tell me it has been forwarded for review by the company that actually did my inspection). I called today, and get the normal "we can't find that supplemental", and after 20minutes we are able to locate the email I filled to the claims email as instructed. This time they tell me they won't look at it, and it needs to come directly from the repair shop, with photo's now. In addition, they are now telling me the supplemental information needs to be emailed to the 3rd party company that did the estimate for USAA… I don't want to deal with this 3rd party, that I have never had any agreement with and are not my the company I pay to insure my vehicle. Unsure if I want all the damage repaired, or partial, or none. How do I get my vehicle's loss of value? [link] [comments] |
Car in shop, who covers monthly lease payment? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 12:31 PM PDT hey guys, I tried searching online for this answer but I can't find it. My SO's car was hit a couple of weeks ago. After estimates, damage is $15k to repair however the guy's insurance only covers up to $10k in damage. At this point, SO decided to just use her insurance to cover it. Anyway, the repairs will take roughly 30 days. since we're out of a car, who covers the lease payment for those missed 30 days? [link] [comments] |
Auto Insurance nearly doubled after first accident Posted: 02 Oct 2018 12:26 PM PDT Hoping to see if there's anything I can do. Due to a pretty dumb mistake (falling asleep while driving after work during finals week), I got into my first car accident. My car insurance went from $270 to $500 (Full coverage, 20 yr old Male). Should I bother looking for a different insurance company? or will it be the same no matter where I go. I'm also leaving for grad school next year and wondered if there's anything I can do to lower my insurance since i'll barely be driving. Any help/tips are appreciated, Thank you! [link] [comments] |
