There's a few interesting cases I've read about, but I'd like to hear more ideas, what you've done, or even just what you know other people have done!

The people from HomeJoy tried handing fliers out with no success, but on a very hot day handed them out with an ice cold bottle of water and their follow through rate went up pretty high! Pretty neat in my opinion.

    Let's hear it!

What YouTube/similar channels do you find offer the most useful business/marketing/etc advice?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 12:28 PM PDT

Hello all, what YouTube/similar channels do you find offer the most useful business/marketing/etc advice? I am not talking about channels exclusively designed to bait and redirect viewers to a website to sell products or consulting. I'm talking about concrete, meaningful advice in the small business sphere.

Starting an online business with an existing brick and mortar business

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 03:28 PM PDT

As the title says I'm working on getting into the online space with an already existing brick and mortar store. My brick and mortar location is a LLC and has all the appropriate licenses and things set up. If I go into the online space, would I need to apply for a separate business license? Or could I use my existing license? Does it make sense to separate the two or keep them combined for now just as I test out the online space?

Mobile phones for a small company of 10 people

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:43 PM PDT

I am looking at getting mobile phones for a small company of 10 people, but I am not sure of the best way to go about it. For the most part of their work, they will be taking and making calls in and out of the office, as well as video calls between eachother. How do companies generally go about this? Is it better to lease phones?

Did you write your own website content, or did you get someone to write it for you?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 09:07 PM PDT

So I am currently filling out the content on my website (I am a photographer) and I have been constantly comparing my content to other websites. Some have SO much text, and some have none at all. I think, personally, I'll bore anyone after 2 paragraphs so I don't want to write much more than that.

So this sort of got me thinking about how many people actually write their own content, especially from a small business perspective. Would you say it's 50/50, or do you think more people write their own to save money? What have you done for your own website? (Bonus points for letting me see!)

This has probably been asked a million times, but I need help with free email forwarding. (Godaddy/Wordpress)

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:24 AM PDT

Edit: Sigh, so I ended up caving and signed up for the G suite trial. Everything works for the most part now, Wordpress is still being a total PITA about connecting the accounts, but the contact form and everything works now. So, there's that at least, for the next 14 days.

    --

I am really sorry if this question has been asked to death a million times. I've been googling all night and I still can't find a workable solution, now I am tired and frustrated, so I come to thee, reddit, for help. I also apologise if this is the wrong subreddit... it IS for my small business, though. But if you have somewhere better for me to put it, please let me know. I don't want to be a bother.

Basically: I am trying to set up a work email for my photography business. A simple contact@"domainname".com address. But... free. Therein lies the problem.I have my business website domain purchased from godaddy, and it is mapped to and hosted by wordpress (.com, NOT .org).

I have a contact form that I really need to utilise for bookings and enquiries. Long story short, it's not working.

I enabled 1 of 100 free forwarding accounts through godaddy to my contact@"domainname".com address, and set that as the forwarding address for my contact form, hoping it would be forwarded to my business-associated gmail account. I wanted to set up an alias with the gmail account to respond with, so it LOOKS like I have a proper email set-up, but really it's all smoke and mirrors.

But what ended up happening was ... absolutely nothing. I couldn't figure out how to set up the alias beyond getting the the SMTP setup page because I just don't know what I'm doing. It automatically maps to smtp-fwd.wordpress.com at port 587... I have no idea what that means. I can't find any answers for it.

When I utilised the contact form with the forward address, the email never came. When I changed it back to the personal gmail address, it arrived (eventually). So I tried to send an email from a personal outlook account to the custom domain email, and I got a bounceback error saying "smtp1-fwd.dca.wordpress.com gave this error:<contact@"customdomainname".com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table"

I am just launching my business full time now, and I am overwhelmed by how much everything is costing. I'm still a full-time student for the next 6 months! I simply cannot afford another monthly or yearly expense like G suite. I am about to pull my hair out. Please help!!

How to scale up summer camp business?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:25 AM PDT

I run a mildly successful day camp business. I'm thinking of scaling it up big time, going from one location to 100 locations in 2-3 years (like idTech, Galileo camp, etc.).

I was hoping some people with experience/ideas regarding this would chime in. For the most part, the staffing, training etc. isn't the hard part for us. Where we're stuck is facilities.

4-5 classrooms in a school + gym + cafeteria is perfect for us. However, that's looking prohibitively expensive. I'm talking $45,000 for six weeks in the summer (according to the prices listed on the School district's websites). For the record, if I were a local community group, that price would be around $8,000 which is feasible for us.

My questions (feel free to add your own and answer them):

    • What types of similar facilities would you all recommend for something like this?
    • Would partnering with local groups qualify us for the lower rate (obviously just your opinion/experience here. This would be true or false on a case by case basis)
    • Where would one go for wisdom regarding scaling up a day camp?
    • Another other advice you can share would be highly appreciated.

LF: Time keeping and scheduling app for my business.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:43 PM PDT

Hey everybody! My wife owns a nanny service. Pretty much what she does is send nannies to work for the families that use her service. Scheduling and keeping track of their hours is a nightmare.

What we are looking for is a way for the nannies to be able to clock in and out of work and also be able to give their availability each week. All in one place.

We tried When I Work and it looked very good but it had two flaws. No clock in/out feature and all employees can see who the other nannies are working for.

    Thank you for your time.

Fashion e-commerce won't sell anymore. What can I do? What is wrong?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:31 PM PDT

Hey guys, this is actually an e-commerce from my girlfriend, and I'm giving my best to help her.

I'm not sure if we can post our website link here, but it is a fashion e-commerce focusing on gothic and alternative clothes. We live in Rio, Brazil.

Our biggest sales comes within the days when new clothes arrives (new collection), which comes in about once every 40-60 days.

Our biggest marketing is instagram (25,7k followers), facebook (12k likes).

We do e-mail marketing on mailchimp, we have a list with around 3k people. Our result here is not really good when e-mailing.

Website is nicely done in Wix platform and we have 2 payment methods. Product selling price is fine and not abusive.

We created a really nice culture with our product, our clients like them so much that they take pictures and they tag our store on instagram, which is really nice way of marketing. Our photos on insta get around 200~500 likes, sometimes above 1k.

We are doing a giveaway on facebook right now, and we send some products to some famous bloggers that are in our niche so they post on instagram and can boost our sale.

We yet don't do SEO, nor use salesforce, nor use google analytics. (Our knowledge gotta increase, we gotta study about this, if you guys could recommend topics in this area I'd appreciate)

We do everything better than our competitors, our product is better, our website is better, but still they have more sales and more followers on instagram/facebook.

For some reason our sales are stuck, we are not getting any more sales recently. There are no more than 3 days that we launched a new collection, we just did the giveaway, we did the e-mail marketing, we are constantly posting on facebook/instagram our product.

We don't sell internationally yet, but are in our plans.

    What could be wrong?

    Any ideas?

    Trouble getting quotes from manufacturers...

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:14 PM PDT

Hi, I've been trying to get an order for a couple hundred feet of a custom-dimension silicon tubing. Nothing fancy, just a slightly larger OD. I've emailed half a dozen manufacturer's stateside and even called one, but have no responses. The emails I've been sending are along the lines of:

    "

Hello, I'm looking to have a roll of a specific size silicon rubber tubing made.

    Specs are:

    *~70 Shore

    *Silicon Rubber

    * 6mm ID

    *~8.5mm OD

    *~250ft length

*Transparent, but color itself is unimportant

I've uploaded a drawing for the tubing. The inner 6mm diameter needs to come out very close to 6mm, +/- 0.02mm, but the outside diameter can be +/-0.1mm of drawing specs.

    Thank You,

    (My name),

    "

Am I missing something in my emails that I need to include?

    Thanks!

    Best Solution for Rental Program?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 04:39 PM PDT

I'm looking to run a simple 1, 3, and 7 day rental service at an existing vape shop for an expensive vape, geared towards consumers who would like to try before they buy. Also the function to use the "rental credit" and pay outright the rest of the cost if the consumer is happy with the vape, essentially a "rent to own" type program.

The vape shop currently only handles cash, and has an ATM for customers with card. Considering renting requires credit cards for authorization, what is the best solution for a rental system? I was thinking of having a POS system like Clover on to the side, so that every purchase for the rental is used solely with the Clover, and the vape shop could continue as "cash only".

I have looked into POS systems like Clover, but have no idea if I should get that or just look for a Rental Software and go through my merchant account for POS... I could use Square, charge the customer the full amount and refund minus the rental fee, but don't want to deal with too many refunds on the books.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Do you use Quickbooks? If so, what do you like/dislike about it?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 03:23 PM PDT

I'm curious to know because I've never used Quickbooks. Most of the people I've heard talk about it aren't too thrilled with it, but a lot of businesses use it.

I know there is an r/Quickbooks, but I think that may be run by Quickbooks and I don't want to ask about this there.

    What makes your product unique?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 02:25 PM PDT

    1- What is your product?

2- In one sentence (just one) explain what makes your product unique from the rest of the market.

3- In one more sentence (just one more) explain how you got to find the niche you're building the product for.

4- Are you pre or post-revenue (any revenue). Just say Pre or Post.

How and when do you delegate? Isn't it the only way to grow?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:03 AM PDT

Ok so long story short we're a couple of brother running a small business. The industry we're in along with the business culture means that our success is heavily dependant on our relationships with certain individual's from other companies - I think this is typical and what businesses face but it's slightly more than normal here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the only way to grow through scaling? With scaling cokes delegation, where not me or my brother will be dealing with the client's directly. In order for us to look for growth we will need to slowly lose direct control.

Now, with delegation comes 2 fears that I can't seem to 1. Really understand and 2. Get past. The first fear is theft. If I am so far away from the sales, how can I be safe from insider theft? One day I say you just have to trust the employees and then another they act in a way that makes me doubt it, despite being good overall employees and having a good relationship with them. The second issue is a matter of business model theft. While its not the easiest to do, if we start delegating enough then a couple of people will end up knowing the ins and outs of how we perform our operations. They will know our contacts that provide us with good deals and will build relationships with them. How can we be safe from them leaving and competing with us with there own company? (the competing isn't the most troublesome part, but losing them as an employee is)

I am really lost and would hate to think that my 24 hours in the day is my limit on the business. But then again I KNOW that's not true when I look at the bigger successful businesses/coorperations.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Question: Paying employess

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:51 AM PDT

Sorry for the question, but I am new to all of this.

Example: If we get a order for a logo for $50, I would give it to one of my graphical designers. What percent of that $50 should that employee get? I am paying them with that money, not by the hour. (I have a couple employees already) Same with for example a order for a web site worth $5,000 etc.
